[Bug 1461569] [NEW] typing speed influences characte displayed

2015-06-03 Thread Harald W Griesshammer
Public bug reported:

I type quite fast, with lots of non-latin unicode characters. I set up
.XCompose to map alt g a to the Greek letter α, alt g b to the
Greek letter β, etc. Typing the first at any speed renders letter α. But one
has to noticably slow down to make sure that alt g b indeed gives β, and
not (now typed at full speed) b. This is not a question of proximity between
keyboard keys since g f, g h, g v, etc are as close together as g
b and produce at any speed: φηϖντψ etc.
I have not checked if the bug exists for non-Greek characters.

It appears the .deb file is corrupt.

You may need to run the following from a terminal:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as Confirmed

[Bug 1451598] Re: Libvirt spams libvirt.log with virNetSocketReadWire and similar errors

2015-06-03 Thread Dave Chiluk
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Libvirt spams /var/log/libvirt/libvirtd.log logs with
  2014-11-19 14:31:15.787+: 46611: warning : qemuOpenVhostNet:493 : Unable
to open vhost-net. Opened so far 0, requested 1
  2014-11-19 15:18:36.735+: 46610: error : virNetSocketReadWire:1377 : End

  2014-11-18 14:47:28.882+: 47095: error : qemuMonitorIO:615 : internal
error: End of file from monitor

  [Test Case]
  1. Create a precise host
  2. Create a number of kvm guests on that host using libvirt.
  3. $ sudo killall kvm
  4. See errors in log.

  [Regression Potential]
  * This is a backport of the upstream fix 89563efc0209b. So there is
possibility that I screwed up the backport. However, I think I understand the
error cleanup code in this area of libvirt, and have modeled the backport
after that cleanup code.
  * This patch has been tested, and does not appear to adversely affect libvirt
functionality other than decreasing the number of warning messages.

  [Other Info]
  * This patch does not solve all the warning errors, but it does clean up a
significant number of them *(about half given the above test case). This level
of libvirt is pretty terrible with spamming it's logs. This level of libvirt
also does not have a good interface that does all the reading and writing of
the socket, so each function handles the reads and writes directly which
results in lots of different error paths.
  * Upstream commit is available here.

http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=commit;h=89563efc0209b854d2b2e554423423d7602acdbd
+ * Trusty and newer already have this fix and many more.

[Bug 1461551] [NEW] System gradual overload with GoogleTalk + Plasmashell +Firefox

2015-06-03 Thread Rick Timmis
Public bug reported:

Using a Google Hangout, from Firefox, or Chromium. FF Uses GoogleTalk
Plugin, Chromium uses its own embedded version.

After about 4 or 5 minutes during which time the system load slowly creeps up,
the Video becomes Choppy, and the Audio broken.
Switching off the Camera, helps eleviate the problem, but only in the sense
that it slows the creeping system load progression down.

Eventually the audio becomes unusable, and I have to drop the Hangout.

Hopefully he system report from apport-bug will shows that I am using
the Intel Grphics drivers, and these did have some issues with on the
early plasma 5 tech preview version.

I also grabbed a few lsof files from the GoogleTalk plugin as the
Hangout progressed. At this point I am a little unsure how to progress
the debug process further

[Bug 1461553] [NEW] [Ubuntu 14.04.3] kernel patches for RAS tools

2015-06-03 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Patches required to support RAS on 14.04.3 kernel

commit 3f77df7f81526c932ef681eda56eeaa75d0617da
Author: Vasant Hegde hegdevas...@linux.vnet.ibm.com
Date: Fri Feb 13 15:26:33 2015 +0530

powerpc/powernv: Check image loaded or not before calling flash

Present code checks for update_flash_data in opal_flash_term_callback().
update_flash_data has been statically initialized to zero, and that
is the value of FLASH_IMG_READY. Also code update initialization happens
during subsys init.

So if reboot is issued before the subsys init stage then we endup displaying
Flashing new firmware message.. which may confuse end user.

This patch fixes above described issue by initializes update_flash status
to invalid state.

[Bug 1461551] Re: System gradual overload with GoogleTalk + Plasmashell +Firefox

2015-06-03 Thread Rick Timmis
I am sorry, I picked 3 times from the bug catagories, I tried Kubuntu-
Plasma-desktop, Kubuntu-Desktop. Which launhpad appeared to accept. Yet
it still registered this in the ubuntu-release-upgrader.

When I invoked apport-bug, I even specified that this problem was a
sound/audio related problem

I have the feeling thiis hould really be moved to the Kubuntu-Desktop,
as I think this problem is race or locking condition between GoogleTalk
and Plasmashell.

Any help pointing me to next steps int he debug process would be
appreciated

After calling basename, we need to defer freeing the pointer.

This is because the basename function may return pointers to statically

return a pointer to some part of path and hence the string refered to
by the path should not be modified or freed until the pointer returned

Do not link to librtas and librtasevents library

servicelog tools do not use any RTAS related APIs directly.
Instead it makes libservicelog API calls which internally
makes use of RTAS. Hence we don't need to link librtas
library here.

[Bug 1461429] Re: ceph-osd early start interferes with kdump-tools during kernel dump

2015-06-03 Thread Louis Bouchard
This is caused by the fact that Ceph OSDs are started by the following
udev rule : /lib/udev/rules.d/95-ceph-osd.rules. This rules emits the
ceph-osd signal that triggers the job to start.

The problem is not with ceph but with how kdump-tools relies on sysVinit
script ordering to run early.

[Bug 1451613] Re: Unity/compiz crashes when locking screen

2015-06-03 Thread Christopher Townsend
** Description changed:

+ [ Test Case ]
+
+ Lock the screen.
+
+ [ Regression Potential ]
+
+ None as this is removing a commit causing this regression.
+
+ -
+
+ Original Description:
+
Since a recent update (around April 29th), sometimes (approximately once a
day) when I lock my computer screen (CTRL+L or using system menu) the computer
freeze for a while (2 to 30 seconds) before showing the login screen.
Then when I try to unlock the screen I need to enter my password twice (with
no error message after the first try).
Once logged in, all applications are closed. Uptime is still running (since
no reboot) and services too (with no interruption).

Looking at the apport.log file (see attached) it seems that when I try
to lock the screen, compiz crashes.

I've attached the compiz crash file too (_usr_bin_compiz.1000.crash) but
without the 100Mo data of base64 core dumb…

-
  I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 AMD64.
  Graphics drivers: nvidia-331.113 (tested)

[Bug 1461565] [NEW] No observable interaction in 14.04 on Macbook Pro

2015-06-03 Thread Trey Gordon
Public bug reported:

So I was using the app just fine, and so I switched to midori until the
paste bug was fixed. I just noticed the fix and now when I start the
app, all i get is a white page with a whiteish box at the bottom of the
window. The address bar is gone, and I try to drag and click multiple
parts of the screen, to no avail. I then summoned it via typing
browser: www.google.com in the dash, and still the same blank window.

[Bug 1461571] [NEW] Text field clear button does not work with first predicted word

2015-06-03 Thread Richard Huddie
Public bug reported:

ubuntu-touch/rc-proposed/bq-aquaris.en-proposed #219

When entering text into a text field using OSK with predictive text
enabled, it is not possible to clear the first word using the clear
button.

Steps:
1) Load Ubuntu UI Toolkit Gallery
2) Select Text Field - Standard
3) Type in a few characters using the OSK, so that the word in text field
remains underlined and suggestions are displayed by OSK.
4) Press clear button in the text field.

Expected result:
The text in the text field should be cleared.

Actual result:
The clear button does not work and the text remains.

Note that if there are multiple words entered then the clear button will work
as expected. This problem only happens if there is only 1 word that is being
deleted.

[Bug 1450894] Re: [Indicators] Messaging indicator does not indicate that there is a new message

2015-06-03 Thread Paty Davila
--- UX comment ---

The use of blue to indicate 'unread' and 'missed' communications was not
understood, 7/11 participants failed to interpret the meaning of blue.
This is because of the following mental models:

- Blue does not signify that attention is required
- The presence of a communication indicator already suggests 'unread' and
'missed'

User quotes:
I don't know why it needs to be blue, I don't need it to be there if there
aren't any unread messages. It normally will only show when there is an
outstanding message. (Michael)
The fact that it is present indicates there is something there for me to do.
(Hansie)

When there are no outstanding messages/missed calls, the participants
did not expect the indicators to be shown. Therefore, the blue colour
serves little meaning to them.

Based on these findings, we've decided to only show the Notification
indicator icon (white) if its current status is on/running or required
the user's attention. (With the exception of informational indicators
which are always present).

Source: Notification indicator icon findings from Usability testing
sessions - March and Sep 2014 (https://goo.gl/tncf2K)

---

Also, with the new design of the Notification System, we suggest using
the lock screen to provide more functionality beyond unlocking the
phone: such as notifications for emails and text messages, a date and
time display, or even shortcuts to certain applications, for example,
the camera or the media player control. This appearance of notifications
on the lock screen addresses user's prioritisation of different
communication content based on their context, for example, from earlier
research, we found that participants gave different levels of attention
according to the communication medium: a missed call is more likely to
require an immediate action; text messages are checked on a frequent
basis; personal emails are relatively less urgent, and tend to be
checked at the user's convenience. Therefore, the 'envelope' icon in the
status bar takes a 'secondary role' when notifying the user.

Desired behaviour of 'Envelope' icon:
User can swipe either way to unlock the screen, if she does, all notifications
will disappear and be recorded in the Notification centre and the 'envelope'
icon should be present on the Status bar. If user sees (opens) the Notification
centre or acts on a notification when it arrives, then the 'envelope' icon
should disappear from the status bar. (https://goo.gl/J6G9Yn)

[Bug 1392699] Re: Can't change locale settings (e.g. language, 12/24-hour time, date format) independently

2015-06-03 Thread Alexey Dokuchaev
By reading ubuntu-system-settings/trunk/plugins/language/language-
plugin.cpp source code, it appears that this rather common problem
(preferred en_US locale and 24-hour military clock) happens because
selected language (translated to locale) is assigned *both* to the
Language and FormatsLocale of the org.freedesktop.Accounts.User
properties.

It can be fixed (until you change it with ubuntu-system-settings again)
by changing FormatsLocale after you've set your desired language, and
restarting device:

$ dbus-send --print-reply --system --dest=org.freedesktop.Accounts
/org/freedesktop/Accounts/User$UID
org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetFormatsLocale string:'ru_RU.UTF-8'

Can I downgrade back to kernel 3.19.0-18 (setting ips and fwlps options to 0)

Should I do nothing else to help debugging ?

[Bug 1424121] Re: Spotify apparmor=DENIED operation=ptrace

2015-06-03 Thread Sérgio Faria
Patricio, you need to allow the ptrace in your spotify apparmour
profile.

Adding this should fix it:
ptrace (trace) peer=@{profile_name},

(taken from https://github.com/ruudkoot/spotify-apparmor )

I'm marking the bug as invalid, since the log spew is the result of a
custom profile.

Did you do the dkms command (modified for your kernel version) after
changing nv-pat.c?

If not, try that. And if that doesn't work, you could try removing and
reinstalling your current kernel version; that should cause dkms to
rebuild the nvidia module.

[Bug 1460399] Re: ivybridge system gets completely unusable after upgrade to vivid thanks to defaulting to immature intel_pstate driver

2015-06-03 Thread Oliver Grawert
one thing i noticed is that after dropping intel_pstate=disable from teh kernel
commandline, thermald does not seem to star/run at all .. starting it manually
i captured http://paste.ubuntu.com/11541063/
note that the behavior gets minimally better with thermald running, but
switching workspaces is still as slow as about 20-30 sec in slow motion ...
http://imgur.com/Ukuv34t shows one terminal with the script above and one
terminal with htop running ... this is with thermald active ... the CPU
normally switches between 800MHz and 2.8GHz with the ondemand governor in use
...
with thermald i se it between 133MHz and at very short spikes up to 3.5GHz (but
even when the cores run at that sped the system only gets responsive for a few
seconds)

turning intel_pstate back off gets me a relatively usable system back
...

[Bug 1461261] Re: 14.04 linux-generic-lts-vivid but no vivid firmware

2015-06-03 Thread Seth Forshee
This is already fixed in linux-firmware 1.127.12 for trusty:

$ dpkg -s linux-firmware | grep Version
Version: 1.127.12
$ ls -1 /lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265*
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265-10.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265-12.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265D-10.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-7265D-12.ucode

Don't trust the output of modinfo here - for iwlwifi it's only telling
you the _minimum_ version supported.

[Bug 1461221] Re: undecorated onboard doesn't comply with compiz effects

2015-06-03 Thread kenn
@marmuta thank you for the info. It appears to be gtk3 client side decoration
handicap. I can live with it.
I met another decoration problem, when I enable show window decoration and
set transparency to 80 while inactive, then when I move mouse pointer on window
decoration which has minimize, maximize and exit buttons, it loses focus and
sets transparency, I can not see onboard while moving it in the screen. It's
like window geometry is not covering onboard's window decoration.

[Bug 1371634] Re: block devices appear twice

2015-06-03 Thread Jeff Lane
Actually, on advice of Andy C, lets go ahead and consider this
critical... this cert needs to be completed as soon as possible and we
can't do that without multipathing working properly.

[Bug 1454775] Re: incorrect architecture label on i386 images

2015-06-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package simplestreams -
0.1.0~bzr341-0ubuntu2.1

---
simplestreams (0.1.0~bzr341-0ubuntu2.1) trusty-proposed; urgency=medium

  * GlanceMirror: identify images as i686 not i386 (LP: #1454775)
When uploading i386 images to glance, mark their architecture as i686
rather than i386 so that the openstack scheduler will schedule them.
