[Bug 1216564] [NEW] xmir displayPort will funk-ily mirror even tho 2nd display has been turned off in settings

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

was running multimonitor in mirror mode. selected the 2nd screen (not the
builtin) and turned off. after a moment or 2...the 2nd monitor begins to
display a mirror but non-scaled, with the original ui behind it
this was reliably reproduceable.

strangely, the shadowed ui on the 2nd display updates/renders...always
in the same waywith the mouse hovering over the apply button of
the settings appbut seems active. on every mouse move or keystroke,
the mouse appears to click the apply button

Attached a picture to help explain

[Bug 1445935] Re: Sound function keys don't work after upgrade

2015-06-08 Thread Michael Anderson
Upgraded on a custom build computer from 14.10 to 15.04. sudo showkey
doesn't show any function of those keys after upgrade... meaning that I
cannot even map a custom command to them. They simply do not have any
function currently.

My Keyboard is a Logitech Wireless Keyboard / Trackpad in one.

[Bug 1216748] [NEW] XMir display buffer layout sometimes overlaps and disagrees with that shown in xrandr/control-center

2015-06-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

XMir's display buffer layout sometimes disagrees with that shown in
xrandr/control-center.

On a few occasions I have placed one monitor left-of or above/below the
other using xrandr/control-center. And while the tool always shows
success in making the outputs adjacent, sometimes the physical display
buffers are rendered overlapping at the same location (0,0) instead.
Making a second change in xrandr/control-center seems to correct it, and
finally what I see is what was configured.

[Bug 1462692] Re: /etc/init.d/screen-cleanup causes ordering cycle when package is removed

2015-06-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Axel: A local fix would be to not ship the /lib/systemd/system/screen-
cleanup.service link in the deb, but create it in postinst and remove it
in the postrm on purge.

But perhaps this should be discussed on http://lists.alioth.debian.org
/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/pkg-systemd-maintainers first? This problem
probably affects a handful of other packages. Maybe there is a really
cheap way to determine that an init.d script is orphaned in that way
so that the sysv-generator can ignore it. I can't think of any with the
current information that we have on the system; this would at least need
some additional help from dh_installinit/the maintainer scripts. But
maybe someone has a clever idea.

[Bug 1463264] [NEW] When I lock ubuntu 14.04.2, all applications opened (complete session) crashed

2015-06-08 Thread Sajid Ali Mudassar
Public bug reported:

Freshly installed ubuntu 14.04.2 with full updates.

When I lock my desktop session, desktop halts for a couple of seconds, then
session is locked, but I am taken back to Login screen.
When I login, than Lock is presented, and when I unlock by providing password,
all my previous session is gone, all applications crashed/closed. Its like when
I just logged in for the first time, but with a twist that even the
applications that were setup to be opened on startup like Skype are not auto
started after this issue happen. [skype does autostart on normal login, as its
added in startup applications list]

I expect normal lock and unlock experience, not logout experience when
locking.

Using fglrx or X.Org open source display driver gives same issue.

I am using HP ProBook 450 G2.

Same issue was happening on 14.04.1. Same issue is happening on all of
our same modal laptops, so for sure its a bug somewhere.

Let me know if anyone needs more information or logs etc. I will try my
best to provide these details.

[Bug 1274320] Re: Error: diskfilter writes are not supported

2015-06-08 Thread Steve Langasek
I am seeing this problem recently on an Ubuntu 14.04 server system where
I don't remember seeing it before. There are no recent changes to the
grub version on the system, and there are no recent changes to the
filesystem layout.

This is a serious bug, because it appears to block the boot indefinitely
with this error.

[Bug 1462747] Re: Please sync with 1.4.24 Debian sid package

2015-06-08 Thread Daniel Holbach
Can you please review which of our changes were already applied in
Debian? Syncing would effectively mean dropping all our changes. Ubuntu
currently has the following changes applied on top of Debian's 1.4.14:

  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service via large body length
- debian/patches/CVE-2011-4971.patch: check length in memcached.c,
  added test to t/issue_192.t.
- CVE-2011-4971
  * SECURITY UPDATE: denial of service when using -vv
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-0179.patch: properly format key in items.c,
  memcached.c.
- CVE-2013-0179
  * SECURITY UPDATE: SASL authentication bypass
- debian/patches/CVE-2013-7239.patch: explicitly record sasl auth
states in memcached.*, added test to t/binary-sasl.t.
- CVE-2013-7239
  * debian/memcached.postinst: don't create home directory so we don't end
up with /nonexistent. Thanks to Dustin Lundquist for patch.
(LP: #1255328)
  * Revert unnecessary deltas added to patches compared to Debian.
  * Revert use of dh-autoreconf and patch configure manually to
match configure.ac, as this package despises modern autotools.
  * debian/rules: Fix the previous fixes a little harder, so they work.
  * debian/rules: Shuffle things around so that dh_autoreconf is always
run before dh_quilt_patch. Fixes FTBFS with dpkg-buildpackage -B.
  * debian/control: added lsb-release, dh-autoreconf to build depends
  * debian/rules: run autoreconf
  * debian/patches/fix-distribution.patch: added patch to show
distribution on version
  * Move dh_quilt_apply into configure step so that config.{sub,guess}
patches get applied before running configure. (LP: #1218114)
  * Update config.{guess,sub} for Aarch64.
  * debian/tests: Add autopkgtest.
  * d/p/60_fix_racey_test.patch: Dropped, applied upstream.
  * d/p/start-memcached-fix-hash.patch: Change regex to make sure
inline comments can function per feedback from upstream. Passing
# to arguments now requires escaping with \.
  * d/p/start-memcached-fix-hash.patch: Apply patch to allow passing
# as a value for memcached options such as -D to use # as a prefix
delimiter for stats collection. (LP: #1005821)
- Run as 'memcache' user instead of nobody.
- Depend on adduser for preinst/postrm.
- Create user in postinst.
- d/rules: run test suite on build.
- d/patches/50_fix_racey_test.patch: Cherry picked patch from
upstream bug tracker which endeavours to avoid the race condition.
Thanks to Clint Byrum for this fix.
- d/patches/50_add_init_retry.patch: Dropped - superceeded by Debian
  patch.

Since we are in the early development, I proposed to sed them out and
see if any regression (unlikely) is spotted.

Works for me. If this got broken pre-trusty it's indeed unlikely to
still be needed.

[Bug 1442896] Re: Bluetooth mouse disconnects and reconnects every few seconds

2015-06-08 Thread sfl
I can confirm this is also a problem in Vivid. I'm not using the same
mouse but symptoms are pretty much the same(except the BT icon doesn't
always disappear) . I've updated the kernel to 3.19.2 (for other reasons
- HDMI audio was broken) but that didn't help the bluetooth issue (I'm
assuming it's a bluez problem rather than the kernel itself). Happy to
help troubleshoot if someone can guide trough the relevant processes to
monitor.

[Bug 1462889] [NEW] Ruby 1.9.3 EOL'ed

2015-06-08 Thread Anshu Prateek
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In trusty, the stable ruby is 1.9.3-p484.

While ruby has EOLed 1.9.3

https://www.ruby-lang.org/en/news/2015/02/23/support-for-ruby-1-9-3-has-
ended/

There is a ruby2.0 available, but that also has ruby as dependency hence
again pulling 1.9.3.

So whats the plan about about upgrading ruby stable to supported
version?

[Bug 1451815] Re: lists users multiple time when requiring user authentication

2015-06-08 Thread Sergio Callegari
Hi, thanks for the analysis. The outcome seems quite reasonable.
Can you help me confirming that the Admin user is a compatibility leftover
from past versions of Ubuntu and that administrators can be safely removed from
it?

I have found this

 http://askubuntu.com/questions/43317/what-is-the-difference-between-
the-sudo-and-admin-group

and I wonder if it covers all admin tasks or whether there may be old
binaries around that still look for admin.

[Bug 1460152] Re: apparmor cache not updated when apparmor.d rules change (breaks 15.04/stable - 15.04/edge updates)

2015-06-08 Thread John Johansen
Michael,

I have a patch (well two actually), and they just need further review
and testing. I also have a partial hashing patch that if needed could be
finished in a few hours, and add native hashing (if we go this route we
could make the hash selectable, so something fast like lookup3 could be
selected for a given platform).

[Bug 1451815] Re: lists users multiple time when requiring user authentication

2015-06-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Indeed, I completely forgot about the sudo/admin groups. Indeed admin
has been the one introduced by Ubuntu since the very beginning; later
sudo was introduced by Debian, and Ubuntu moved to it. So admin can
safely be dropped once all sudo users got moved into sudo.

2015-06-08 Thread Michael Vogt
@all I just verified that a 15.04/stable - 15.04/edge upgrade works and
that the caches are regenerated. So the workaround works.

@John I started with the mtime approach in my proof of concept patch. So
if you guys are too busy I can try to expand it to cover the includes as
well (it does not right now). Great to hear that we are close to nice
and clean solution :)

@Jamie Thanks for your feedback! I haven't considered the #includes,
thats a gap in the patch indeed.

Public bug reported:

I had added to sources.list in /etc/apt repositories entries and had

The problem starts when I execute apt-get update. I recieve the error of
NO_KEY from the added repositories, even if the keys are already
imported (re-import try causes the mesage: key not changed)

[Bug 1462650] Re: Incorrect installation behaviour on multi-drive system

2015-06-08 Thread Barry Drake
Ok. That works fine in the BIOS boot mode - I think there ought to be a
warning though! I didn't expect that kind of behaviour - and was
surprised by it. However, yesterday, I spent a long time experimenting
with EFI install to my spare drive. The components of grub are
installed to sdc, but sda holds the pointer to it in a specific sector.
Out of five installs, only one of them would boot. All the rest gave
the grub error (from sda boot) error - no such device - followed by a
UUID. I assume that the UUID quoted is meant to be the UUID of the
FAT32 EFI partition on sdc. I checked that, and it was not the same.
If the BIOS boot is meant to be working as it does, I have to accept
that, but the EFI boot system does seem to have a problem!

[Bug 1462530] Re: multipath errors on vivid kernel?

2015-06-08 Thread Stefan Bader
At least this requires the output of multipath -ll and the iscsi
setup. Apparently its supporting ALUA, so the targets may be on a real
storage server but it would be better you would let us know instead of
guessing. Are the errors seen on every boot or just the one time it did
not boot?

[Bug 1354924] Re: Networkmanager does not autoconnect to wireless network

2015-06-08 Thread Ar2el
Today I managed to solve this problem: I had once deactivated the KDE
Wallet subsystem. I enabled it again, restarted the system, and the
network manager started connecting automatically again.

However, I want the computer to connect without asking anything (I'm not
always near it). But now it asks for my wallet password...

I solved it by entering a blank password, but that's a workaround. I've
always disabled the kde wallet subsystem without a problem.

Problem solved, I want to share some thought about this issue.:

I can't help but saying that I seriously can't believe that this bug is
still present, with medium priority and assigned to nobody. If this bug
was present in windows (and for a year!), everyone of us would be making
jokes about it. A whole release came and gone without anybody interested
in solving this. It's really unbelievable.

Please don't tell me to upgrade because I use the computer for GPGPU and
Plasma 5 breaks when installing nvidia proprietary drivers (so 15.04
isn't an option for me) and 14.04 *LTS* has another open bug that
prevents it for being used for GPGPU with nvidia cards. So, I'm just
thinking about changing OS.

Not caring about bugs is a serious issue these last years in *Ubuntu.

[Bug 1462919] [NEW] kswapd pulls server down every 2 weeks.

2015-06-08 Thread Søren Holm
Public bug reported:

in 15.04 even when having plenty of RAM and swap kswpd uses lots of CPU
and might bring the machine down to a crawl making is unable to access
it over the network.

I say might, because it's only a very clear feeling that I have. I do
not know it for sure.

Anyway the fact is that I have two server that once every 2 week ends up
totally unaccessible from the network. They can be pinged though.
Logging in locally takes a long time. Rebooting them locally takes a
long time. They have absolutely no noticeable disk IO when in this

[Bug 1462928] [NEW] Middle button emulation causes delay in click status recognition

2015-06-08 Thread V
Public bug reported:

Using a mouse this problem started happening in the past week or 2 for me.
When middle button emulation is ticked, if you drag the timeout slider to the
longest time, release, and try to drag it back to the shortest time, the cursor
will not click down until a second or 2 after you clicked down with your mouse,
and the cursor will begin clicking where-ever the cursor was after that delay.

It causes another problem which is the main problem for me: I keep the timeout
setting to the shortest as that's all I need to click both buttons to simulate
a middle click. However, when using left click and holding it down (e.g. to
highlight text) it now sometimes 'glitches' and the system thinks I let go of
the left mouse button even when I didn't. The same thing happens if I switch
left and right click so I'm holding right mouse button drag in accessibility
settings. This causes my highlight selection to get reset and start
highlighting again from where it glitched.
This glitching seems to be solved or at least non-apparent when I uncheck the
'use middle mouse button emulation' checkbox.

I also notice sometimes the left mouse click doesn't work - it doesn't
actually click.

Configuration:
I'm running Kubuntu 14.04 LTS 64bit
Linux 3.16.0-38-generic #52~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP
gpointing-device-settings is at 1.5.1-6ubuntu2 same version for the past few
months/year

I have not changed the gpointing-device-settings package in the last few weeks,
while I think this problem started occurring in the past week (in June), so it
may be related to upstream package changes. This is my apt history for the last
couple of weeks (/var/log/apt/history.log):

[Bug 1462928] Re: Middle button emulation causes delay in click status recognition

2015-06-08 Thread V
I'd be happy with a workaround just to be productive on my main system, I tried
stuff on this thread:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/160164/how-do-i-enable-middle-mouse-button-emulation-in-12-04-lts
Tried to use gsettings but it didn't work for me, synclient doesn't work
because I'm using a mouse.
