[Bug 191417] Re: oem-config should draft a preseed file

2015-06-10 Thread Taihsiang Ho
[patch proposal]
150610-add-feature-to-preseed-by-boot-parameters
.
Add feature to preseed by using boot parameters at stage 3 (OOBE) installation.
.
The current binary package oem-config does not support the feature to preseed
by using boot parameters at stage 3, Out-of-box experience, OOBE. By mimicking
the implement of casper, getting boot parameters from /proc/cmdline and apply
associated preseed files if any, before oem-config-firstboot launches.
.
This feature will benefit oem vendors to perform automatic tests for different
known end users with different system configuration but the same skeleton
oem-installed system. Thus, end users may have better OOBE experience and
system updating support.
.
.
Patch regression risk: Low
.
This patch only add one more case option and the feature is isolated to other
features.

For some reason the system still used kernel 3.13 after the upgrade - on which
it failed. Upgrading to 3.19 did not change anything.

I have difficulties believing that and userspace sutff could cause it, but
maybe
the systemd-stuff could affect it anyhow.

[Bug 1375252] Re: [SRU] Hostname change is not preserved across reboot on Azure Ubuntu VMs

2015-06-10 Thread Joe Clifford
Apologies for the tardy feedback. Many thanks to all involved,
gratefully and much appreciated. From my perspective, this issue is now
resolved.

I've just tried this on a freshly deployed Trusty VM in Azure - a
change to the hostname with 'hostnamectl' is now preserved when the VM
is rebooted.

I would like to point out though that, if not editing the /etc/hostname
file directly, the 'hostnamectl' command must be used to set the
hostname; using the 'hostname' command doesn't work (presumably because
the hostname command doesn't change /etc/hostname).

[Bug 1406288] Re: Calibre crashes when enabling/disabling external monitors

2015-06-10 Thread ser0ser
On my Ubuntu 15.04/Plasma 5/Dual Monitor starting Calibre eats about 2
gigabytes of memory and makes X server to allocate another 2GB, then
whole X session crashes. It is extremely annoying because of loss of
unsaved data from all opened applications. This doesn't happen when
second monitor is turned off.

[Bug 74139] Re: shutdown missing -F (force fsck) option

2015-06-10 Thread Laurent Bonnaud
fsck in particularly is slowly undergoing big changes that will mean
you can do it on the fly, with no need to reboot, etc.

6 years later ext4 still does not support online fsck.

 so why support -F ?

Because with systemd it is even more cumbersome to force a fsck of the
root FS.

[Bug 1463674] Re: package linux-image-3.13.0-54-generic 3.13.0-54.91 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-06-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear that we've resolved this for you!

As per the 'hostname' manpage:

When called with one argument ..., the commands set the host name ...
Note, that this is effective only until the next reboot. Edit
/etc/hostname for permanent change.

So that sounds like expected behaviour. :)

Thanks,

Dan

[Bug 1463811] [NEW] serial Wacom devices not detected in vivid/15.04

2015-06-10 Thread g
Public bug reported:

After installing Ubuntu Vivid/15.04 on my Thinkpad x200 tablet, no
serial Wacom devices were detected at boot. Screen did not respond to
stylus and Wacom settings reported no tablet detected.

Workaround: as in comment #8 in Utopic bug #a
href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-
wacom/+bug/13928871392887/a, replacing the directory
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules with the *file
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules/wacom.rules, renamed to
69-wacom.rules restores Wacom functionality. However, the laptop now
boots up into portrait mode. Replacing
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules/wacom.rules with the Utopic/14.04
version does not appear to fix the problem.

[Bug 1463461] Re: resolvconf not updated by /lib/systemd/system/ifup@.service.d/open-iscsi.conf

2015-06-10 Thread Scott Moser
Martin,
# systemctl status -l ifup@*.service; echo $?
0

The difference between your scenario and mine is that the NIC has been
brougt up in the initramfs and is using iscsi root, so you can't bounce
the nic, so ifup doesnt occur.

$ cat /proc/cmdline
nomodeset iscsi_target_name=tgt-boot-test-mT14s1 iscsi_target_ip=192.168.1.132
iscsi_target_port=3260 iscsi_initiator=maas-enlist ip=maas-enlist:BOOTIF ro
BOOTIF_DEFAULT=eth0
root=/dev/disk/by-path/ip-192.168.1.132:3260-iscsi-tgt-boot-test-mT14s1-lun-1
overlayroot=tmpfs console=ttyS0 console=tty1 debug
ds=nocloud-net;seedfrom=http://192.168.1.132:32600/

The README at http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~smoser/maas/maas-ephemeral-
sniff/view/head:/README.txt shows how to to do this. The tools there
handle setting up and tearing down iscsi target.

[Bug 1462947] Re: No module named ceilometermiddleware.swift for Kilo

2015-06-10 Thread Matt Kassawara
Please do not submit patches prior to bug
triage/discussion/prioritization. A packaging problem appears to cause
this issue, not an installation guide problem. While the installation
guide contains some workarounds for packaging issues, it does not
install software via methods other than the distribution package
management tools because they often cause issues with the official
packages. I suggest that we temporarily remove the ceilometer swift bits
from the installation guide and raise bugs with the package maintainers.

[Bug 1463635] [NEW] Apache2 waits indefinetely when reloading

2015-06-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Robie Basak (racb):

System : Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
Package : apache2 - 2.4.7-1ubuntu4.4

Description :
When a reload invoked by logrotate;
2-3 time in a week apache2 stops responding requests in our web server.
While in this period, clients can connect but waits indefinitely for a reply.
Then apache2 needs a full restart to start serve web pages.
Reload does not work in this situation.

After some research we found that Apache2 has a GracefulShutdownTimeout
directive that kill remaining requests after a timeout.
But this directive not set (defaults to zero) in default Ubuntu config.
( See : http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/en/mod/mpm_common.html )

This should have a reasonable value in default config.

Expected :
Apache2 reloads and continues to serve web pages without human interaction.

Happened :
Apache2 waits for remaining requests indefinitely and needs a restart.

[Bug 1463627] Re: Limiting the data size doesn't work

2015-06-10 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.1 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1460794] Re: systemd will not work with a separate /usr partition

2015-06-10 Thread Martin Pitt
The /usr appears to be on its own filesystem ... is just a warning.
Booting with separate /usr is supported, as long as it's a local
partition and not a remote one (the latter could work, but really nobody
tests this). I just did a 15.04 installation with separate /usr, and it
works fine.

Could there be something wrong with your /etc/fstab perhaps? Maybe some
UUID mismatch or so? In the emergency shell, can you please do

  journalctl -b /root/journal.txt
  blkid /root/blkid.txt

and attach /etc/fstab, /root/blkid.txt, and /root/journal.txt here?
Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. Great to hear that we've resolved this for you!

 As per the 'hostname' manpage:

When called with one argument ..., the commands set the host name ...
Note, that this is effective only until the next reboot. Edit
 /etc/hostname for permanent change.

So that sounds like expected behaviour. :)
Indeed! It's been a long time since I read that manpage.

Thanks again.

 Thanks,

 Dan

[Bug 1460868] Re: [regression] Mir demo servers don't start at all in release 0.13.1 (mir-platform-graphics-* never installed)

2015-06-10 Thread Christopher Townsend
Hi Daniel,

I went back and forth in my mind on whether I should use a new bug for
the unity8-desktop-session task. I decided to use this bug because 1)
This was the bug pointed out by the Mir team when we inquired why mir-
graphics-drivers-desktop was not getting installed and 2) It's really
the same bug that affects us as well. Given that, I thought it would be
OK to just use the same bug for our project as well. Sorry for any
confusion I may have caused in this bug:)
