[Bug 1464757] Re: Audio broken on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2015-06-13 Thread GaryParr
Christopher, I haven't contacted Dell yet for a few reasons. The primary
being that I'm not quite sure I understand what to tell them. From what
I gather on the most likely related bug (1413446) the original issue was
how the BIOS presented the sound card. But... I can't tell from the
dmesg results if this is the same thing. It looks similar, but also
different.

Also, I know Dell released an A05 BIOS for this model (I'm A04) but then
pulled the BIOS after it caused problems. Because of this, and because
Dell doesn't officially support Linux on this model, I wanted to have
some idea of what to tell/ask them before I raised the issue.

[Bug 1386542] Re: FLAC instruments in sample project don't play

2015-06-13 Thread Oskar Wallgren
.flac works just fine. I just tried this file to make sure:
http://freesound.org/people/arseniiv/sounds/259944/

The particular project 'Zakarra-59_Degrees.mmpz' isn't however. It you try a
later version of LMMS, say 1.1.3, it will provide you with a pop-up message
saying that the samples in question are missing completely. It's not a good
thing to have a project that is partly defect but we're going over the projects
once in a while and this one is a good candidate for removal.
I'm editing the bug description accordingly.

[Bug 1386542] [NEW] FLAC instruments in sample project don't play

2015-06-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

$ dpkg -s lmms | grep Version:
Version: 1.0.0+stable-0ubuntu1

Included sample project /usr/share/lmms/projects/CoolSongs/Zakarra-
59_Degrees.mmpz features several tracks that use FLAC-based samples.

On my system, these tracks are silent and when I open the settings for
those instruments, the waveform for the sample shows up as multi-
coloured noise (pic attached).

Edit: Flac works but some samples are missing among the demo projects
and this needs to be fixed. Reported upstream.

[Bug 1464905] Re: gparted reports a problem with working drive

2015-06-13 Thread Peter Pfeiffer
Phillip, I actually don't know how to determine whether the problem is gparted
or linux. Also I was asked to provide this information and I had already run
bleachbit so the original information was no longer present. I decided to
generate the info once again and could not discover a method of inserting it
into the original. I was hoping that a moderator could merge the 2 bug reports.
Respectfully I've tried to do my due diligence in reporting this, as I'm
perfectly satisfied with using the drive as 12.04.5 a bootable OS I think a
moderator can merge these 2 - if not so be it as I don't think this will affect
too many folks!
Respectfully
Peter Pfeiffer

Public bug reported:

I was just updating everything when the thing hung.
Since I hadn't been using Linux in a few years, a few repositories disappeared.
I don't know what caused this specific failure.
I left this as a bug despite your guidelines because something must've
triggered xfe to crash and it would be nice if it could have a more graceful
degradation.

I posted above with the same bug on an Nvidia card. On that machine,
reverting to chromium-browser 41.0.2272.76-0ubuntu1.1134 brings back
working WebGL.

I also confirm the same problem on a Lenovo X220 with Intel graphics,
also Ubuntu 15.04.

[Bug 1439006] Re: Install Fcitx for Japanese users

2015-06-13 Thread Nobuto Murata
@Aron,

I'm not sure about the future including Desktop Next or convergence,
however I believe it's still worthy to have Mozc as default for the time
being. The engine itself is well maintained by Google team as
Mozc/Google Japanese Input(It's like a Chromium/Chrome relation) in
upstream, and popular on Windows, Linux and Android with no doubt.

Up until now, we didn't bring Mozc to MIR because it has a wide
dependencies. Now that fcitx is in main, a big remaining depedency is
gyp. It would be great if Desktop team is positive to maintain it.

@Ikuya, your input is more than welcome.

[Bug 1318321] Re: the cache has no package error when wine update is available

2015-06-13 Thread Hartwig Kolbe
My 14.04.2 64bit has the error message The cache has no package named
wine1.7-i386.

If this is caused by an available update for wine, how to resolve it?
Manually install what? There is no indication that there is an update
pending.

I tried sudo apt-get install wine-compholio:i386 as recommended here
earlier, but it results in Unable to locate package wine-compholio.

[Bug 1439006] Re: Install Fcitx for Japanese users

2015-06-13 Thread Ikuya Awashiro
@aron, yes, it is true that Mozc conversion engine is the *best* for Japanese
input.
I always use Mozc instead of Anthy.
Mozc is default conversion engine on Ubuntu Japanese Remix which is our team is
released.
Anthy is stopped to develop for a long time.

But I think it is hard to pass MIR because Mozc has a lot of dependency.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/wily/mozc

So I think libkkc is *better* than Anthy and it is not difficult to pass MIR
rather than Mozc.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/wily/libkkc

fcitx-kkc is now in menters.debian.net as you know.
https://mentors.debian.net/package/fcitx-kkc

Thanks,

not really, comm= added by the audit subsystem and is set by the thread
the check is being done in, in kernel context. Both the send and
receive check are being done in the same place so comm= will not change.
We are not in control of this so there is little we can do about it.

[Bug 1464871] [NEW] Instead of separate Desktop Actions for Play and Pause, have a single Play/Pause (like Totem)

2015-06-13 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

The Unity Dash context menu for Rhythmbox currently has separate items
for Play and Pause. I think Totem does better by eliminating those
for a single Play/Pause item which does both. I also think the
interface should be consistent across these two applications. Rhythmbox-
client even supports the same parameter as totem for this (--play-
pause), so I created a patch for rhythmbox.desktop based on
totem.desktop, which should accomplish what I'm after.

[Bug 1464374] Re: system error

2015-06-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Francesco, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AM1B-M/?cat=Downloados=BIOS an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.50).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1464860] [NEW] libsys-virt-perl FTBFS due to missing dependency libvirt-daemon in Ubuntu

2015-06-13 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

The libsys-virt-perl package currently in Wily proposed [1] fails to
build from source [2]. It fails because it depends on libvirt-daemon,
and this package is not available in Ubuntu.

The libvirt source package is packaged directly in Ubuntu [3], but the
version available in Debian offers more binary packages [4], among
others libvirt-daemon. So when libsys-virt-perl is built in Debian it
works fine, but when it gets synced to Ubuntu it fails, because the same
packages are not available.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see

have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1383184] Re: Atheros Qualcomm Killer N1525 Wireless-AC [168c:003e] not supported

2015-06-13 Thread Rob
I've downloaded the most current stable linux kernel (4.0.5) and also
the most recent longterm build (3.18.14).

Neither of these have the file net/nfc/nci.h
make -jX is failing for me because that file is missing:

net/nfc/nci/core.c:40:25: fatal error: net/nfc/nci.h: No such file or
directory

Is that file autogenerated during make, and if it is, why isn't it being
generated for me?
And why is it that others have (or don't need) this file?

[Bug 1463553] Re: accept() system call is inconsistent with bind(), connect()

Daniel U. Thibault, could you please test the latest mainline kernel as
requested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1463553/comments/3
?

Also:
« Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed. » As the reporter, I'm not allowed to do that. Besides, it's
already marked as Confirmed.

With linux (Ubuntu) a standing triaging exception is in place where
Confirmed means the original reporter has at least attached the minimum
amount of information to begin triaging.

[Bug 1432413] Re: Synaptic Touchpad xevents are hijacked under X

2015-06-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Igor Lopez, just to advise, having someone assigned to this or not does
not influence bug expiration. Also, one would only mark themselves
assigned if they are personally going to provide a code fix imminently,
or take a verified fix patch and build it within the Ubuntu
infrastructure to release in a Ubuntu repository (both of which require
the knowledge and skills to do so). Hence, at this point there would be
nobody assigned to this.

Despite this, could you please test Wily via cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/ and advise to the results?

[Bug 1464831] Re: Ubuntu should default to an EFI compatible install

2015-06-13 Thread Michael Titke
Regarding the EFI variables (default boot entry chime volume) I found
the following situation:

- the kernel from live / installation dvd / iso does really contain the
screwed up efi module configuration: there doesn't seem to be any way to
access the firmware from within the live system

- the installed kernel (by that same installation) does have efi support
built-in: thus the configuration file in /boot doesn't seem to match
the installed kernel 3.19.0-15-generic.

Snooping around in the variables this way gives me the following image:

 - I can't find or see the variables SystemAudioVolume and
SystemAudioVolumeDB and thus I cannot change the volume of the
infamous startup chime with my current setup

- regarding the boot sequence I see MS and Apple entries with mid level
cryptographic information and some megabyte of data associated: probably
the signed boot loaders of the default boot sequence. I know that it is
possible to determine the default boot volume from within Mac OS X but I
have no idea how to do this here.

- I am not able to see the hardware keys for signing my own kernel and I
am not sure if this would allow unrestricted access to the firmware. Bot
grub-XXX-signed and linux-XXX-signed seem to be crippled packages where
Grub can't load any configuration file and Linux doesn't find initrd and
can't even reboot.

Right now my system faithfully boots off the external hard drive but it takes
time:
- first a pleasant gray screen while the Mac Firmware searches for one of
Apple's cats
- at some point the gray screen time outs and decides to take the only option
available: the grub esp on the external drive
- Grubs are known not be too fast: first a black screen blinking cursur. Than a
menu that sometimes appears only at the end of its time out. Then some message
about a blind boot because it couldn't find right video mode. Than finally the
penguin lurks out of this box. But LSB-Waits one and a half minute for an cable
ethernet connection that just won't be there. Then suddenly: the login screen.

I do understand that the hardware vendor is free to prefer certain
operating system vendors and boot methods over others and I do
understand that the distinction between hardware and software is not
that clear when you buy a Mac. But some things just didn't show up in
the manual of my Mac

[Bug 1250532] Re: Very Slow to Show Properties of a File (window dims out)

2015-06-13 Thread benmoreassynt
** Description changed:

When I right lick on a file, in Nautilus, and then click properties, I'm
experiencing a great deal of lag before the properties are displayed.

It doesn't matter if the file is small or large; it takes about 10
seconds before the properties are displayed, and the Nautilus window
  becomes dim during the wait.

I've noticed this behavior since upgrading from Ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10,
and have never experienced it prior (using the exact same hardware).

dbench says my solid state hard drive's speed is over 400 MB/sec

I've hit this bug the second time within one week on a 24/7 Server
system. Is there any workaround for this, currently I'm thinking about
switching from ext4 to ext3.

[Bug 1464757] Re: Audio broken on Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140

2015-06-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
GaryParr, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
You have a slightly different revision (and different connecting
hardware) than LP#1413446, so this highly correlates to it.

Hence, given you have the latest BIOS for your model as per Dell's
support website, have you contacted Dell and inquired about this from a
BIOS perspective?

[Bug 1296667] Re: dovecot/apparmor: profile not found

2015-06-13 Thread Steve Beattie
Unfortunately, while preparing the fix for this, I did not take into
account that the debian/apparmor-profiles.install file needed to be
updated to take the additional missing profiles into account. Marking
verification-failed.

However, failing to install the additional dovecot profiles does not
cause any regressions, it just causes this bug to not be fixed by the
version of apparmor in trusty-proposed. Given that apparmor
2.8.95~2430-0ubuntu5.2 in trusty-proposed succeeds in addressing several
other issues (see bug 1449769 for a partial list), I'd like to see that
version pushed to trusty-updates and then have an additional apparmor
update go into trusty-proposed that correctly fixes this bug; I'm
attaching the debdiff that would do that.

[Bug 1464833] Re: Unable to configure Firmware Assisted dump

2015-06-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1464833/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1464833] [NEW] Unable to configure Firmware Assisted dump

2015-06-13 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

---Steps to Reproduce---
1) Using latest daily ISO install 14.04.02 as a Power VM guest.
2) Upgrade the kernel to 3.19 level (3.19.0-18-generic)
3) In order to use Firmware Assisted Dump feature update the kernel command
with fadump=on.
4) Reboot.

Post reboot using kdump-config load command fails with following message
:

# kdump-config load

Please reserve memory by passingcrashkernel=X@Y parameter to kernel
Then try to loading kdump kernel

Are there any user space fixes missing which prevents me from
configuring firmware assisted dump ?

== Comment: #4 - Hari Krishna Bathini hbath...@in.ibm.com - 2015-06-12

This patch makes kdump-tools fadump aware so as to switch between
kdump fadump seemlessly based on the dump method enabled (fadump/kdump).

Thanks
Hari

[Bug 1464831] [NEW] Ubuntu should default to an EFI compatible install

2015-06-13 Thread Michael Titke
Public bug reported:

Please make Ubuntu Install default to using sane EFI compatible
partitioning scheme and boot loader installation.

Full Install

Partition Table: GPT

First Partition: Boot / ESP Label: EFI (VFAT/FAT32 with GPT boot flag enabled -
see Mange Flags in gparted)
On my Mac which has never seen BIOS and never will I need a EFI compliant boot
setup for the firmware to recognize for example an external hard drive as a
boot option: put the corresponding boot image (probably grub.efi) into the root
of this boot partition with the name boot.efi or it won't show up on startup
(using the alt key on a Mac)

Swap: I still prefer to use two times the size of the RAM for this.
Root: I prefer to limit this to 150GB and leave some 300GB for further
experimenting but it really should be as big as possible.

Please check the grub setup: the current configuration file as created by the
installation is too complicated / Debian's handling of the Grub configuration
is not user friendly because this. My simple counter example:

grub.cfg

# Boot automatically after 30 secs.
set timeout=3

# By default, boot the GNU/Linux
set default=ubuntu

# Fallback to GNU/Hurd.
#set fallback=gnuhurd

# For booting GNU/Linux
menuentry Ubuntu (EFI) --id ubuntu {
set root=(hd0,gpt3)
linux /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 splash quiet
initrd /initrd.img
}

...

(The next one is just a guess as I yet have to recompile the kernel myself to
check it myself)
Please check the EFI kernel support configuration (with correctly configured
EFI support it might even be possible to distinguish EFI and non-EFI systems
during install)

efivars is built-in to the kernel image but it depends on efi-pstore
which is to be built as a module??? That misconfiguration of the kernel
sources might be the reason for the missing EFI support. Someone over
at Debian made that change a long time ago for no good reason.

Perhaps I will add additional information regarding this issue in a
comment.

With working EFI support you could as well add a new boot entry in the
firmware for the Ubuntu Installation during install.

Thank you!
