[Bug 1475678] [NEW] Unity8 not informing clients that they are not visible and thus can stop rendering
Public bug reported: Currently on the phone, apps stop rendering when shell hides them, because shell also lifecycle stops the app. App isn't actually told it should stop rendering, we just SIGSTOP its process. But some apps are not lifecycle stopped, e.g. music. So we should have unity8 tell the app to stop rendering. This will be a multi-step process: 1. Qtubuntu Mir has a attribute to set on surfaces to tell them they are visible/occluded: (see mir/include/common/mir_toolkit/common.h) mir_surface_attrib_visibility - part of the MirSurfaceAttrib enum. This indicates these possible values: typedef enum MirSurfaceVisibility { mir_surface_visibility_occluded = 0, mir_surface_visibility_exposed } MirSurfaceVisibility; On the client side (qtubuntu), you need to listen for this attribute change, and connect it to QWindowSystemInterface::handleExposeEvent() which tells Qt how much of a QWindow is being drawn. Note there is also a QWindowSystemInterface::handleWindowStateChanged() handler, which use use to explicitly set QWindow show/hide, but Qt tends to release its GL context on hide, which we may not desire. It may not hurt, worth a look. 2. QtMir There are methods on mir::scene::Surface to set and get the MirSurfaceAttrib attributes. I think it would make sense to use the pre-existing MirSurfaceItem::visible property, so that if a surface is marked visible=false, then that will dispatch the mir_surface_visibility_occluded event to the client, so it will stop drawing. 3. Unity8 Correctly set visible=false when an application surface is occluded, and true when visible. QML has no automatic way of doing that (i.e. occlusion detection) ** Affects: qtmir Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: qtubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: qtubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1475678 Title: Unity8 not informing clients that they are not visible and thus can stop rendering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qtmir/+bug/1475678/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: My priority for this bug: Low - I have a workaround that doesn't appear to cause negative side effects. Symptom: After hibernate, grub2 menu is displayed for 30 seconds Workaround: set GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=0 More details: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 15.04 Release:15.04 I have re-enabled hibernate, and it basically works. Information in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1443735/ causes me to believe that on hibernate, recordfail is getting set. As a consequence, the grub2 menu is displayed, unless GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT is set to 0. Grub2 team suggested this should not be happening, and that a new bug be opened for this. My interpretation of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage was to log this bug here, which I've done via ubuntu-bug linux Info relating to installed bios: https://johnlewis.ie/custom-chromebook-firmware/rom-archive/ http://johnlewis.ie/coreboot-parrot-seabios-suspend-27102013.rom ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: linux-image-3.19.0-22-generic 3.19.0-22.22 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-22.22-generic 3.19.8-ckt1 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.1 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: user 1490 F pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Jul 17 21:27:21 2015 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=ca1b5985-7f8a-4931-9692-16fda5bd3fd7 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-07-12 (5 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 15.04 Vivid Vervet - Release amd64 (20150422) MachineType: Google Parrot ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.19.0-22-generic root=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root ro RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.19.0-22-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.19.0-22-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.143.1 SourcePackage: linux UdevLog: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/log/udev' UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 10/27/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: coreboot dmi.bios.version: 4.0-4745-g1ce4860-dirty dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Google dmi.modalias: dmi:bvncoreboot:bvr4.0-4745-g1ce4860-dirty:bd10/27/2013:svnGoogle:pnParrot:pvr1.0:cvnGoogle:ct3:cvr: dmi.product.name: Parrot dmi.product.version: 1.0 dmi.sys.vendor: Google ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug vivid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1475620 Title: hibernate / resume works, but triggers recordfail grub menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1475620/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1437510] Re: Screen dim is not following the lock screen timeout (always dimming after 50 seconds)
@ken-vandine If we don't want to set dim-timeout separately, and remain relative to activity-timeout, we should drop the setting completely and ubuntu-system-compositor should dim the screen on activity-timeout - 10 @ogra this is still not properly fixed, can we eventually get a fix inside u-s-c please ... USC was designed to offer a setInactivityTimeouts(poweroff, dim) interface for maximum flexibility, and also so that it could provide only mechanism, not enforce policy. We believe USC shouldn't hardcode policy like dim timeout is 10 seconds before power-off timeout. Perhaps there needs to be a central place to handle power management policy, but USC shouldn't be it. This debate is yet another effect of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-system-compositor/+bug/1444042. a) if you dont switch the time (i.e. before the OTA with the fix you have set your lock timeout to 10min) it will use 50sec hardocded after OTA I don't understand this statement, which probably means I missing some background info here... b) if you set your device to never where you likely want to use the GPS while driving, the dim value defaults to 50sec which most likely can even risk your life while tapping madly on teh screen to see where you are going with your GPS ... From a quick look at the requests that USC receives when changing the lock timeout from the UI, this seems to be an effect of the code that sets the timeouts in ubuntu-system-settings. In particular, when selecting Never in the UI, USC receives (-1 means don't change): set_inactivity_timeouts(0, -1) // set power-off timeout to 0s (disable) set_inactivity_timeouts(-1, 50) // set dim timeout to 50s i.e.. we get an explicit request to set the dim timeout to 50 seconds, whereas we should get a request to disable it (set it to 0). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437510 Title: Screen dim is not following the lock screen timeout (always dimming after 50 seconds) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1437510/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1453117] Re: Partitions not recognized because of kernel option CONFIG_ACORN_PARTITION_CUMANA
The issue has also been seen in http://askubuntu.com/questions/638291 /unable-to-mount-external-usb-ssd I also reproduced it by chance with a SD card configured with an ARM bootloader located in block 2+. Changing one byte in block #6 restored the normal behaviour, where all partitions are correctly detected. The issue did not exist in Trusty, it was added in the initial kernel configuration for Utopic and still exists in Vivid. ** Attachment added: Restore the configuration from Trusty https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1453117/+attachment/4430604/+files/kpatch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1453117 Title: Partitions not recognized because of kernel option CONFIG_ACORN_PARTITION_CUMANA To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1453117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 592434] Re: ssh -X user@machine hangs when using exit to terminate
I've given up on it for now.. it requires substancial changes and is a quasi-design flaw with dbus. I am curious (- I haven't checked) what happens with the switch to sdbus/kdbus. Eventually it might be worthwhile to actually have dbus start and manage your ssh session (the server side only of course) and then everything should might work fine, then you can have bash as a systemd managed user job. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/592434 Title: ssh -X user@machine hangs when using exit to terminate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dbus/+bug/592434/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1475662] [NEW] Kernel postrm calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/*
Public bug reported: Looking at linux-image-extra-3.19.0-18-generic here, but I expect this to be pretty pervasive. This is its postrm: #!/bin/sh set -e case $0::$1 in *.postinst::configure|*.postrm::remove) depmod -a -F /boot/System.map-3.19.0-18-generic 3.19.0-18-generic || true for dir in /etc/kernel/postinst.d /etc/kernel/postinst.d/3.19.0-18-generic do if [ -d $dir ]; then run-parts --verbose --exit-on-error --arg=3.19.0-18-generic --arg=/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-18-generic $dir fi done ;; esac As you can see it executes /etc/kernel/postinst.d/* instead of /etc/kernel/postrm.d/* even if it's called as a postrm script. Why? The problem for us is that this re-executes dkms's autoinstaller, which recompiles certain modules even if the kernel is being removed.
