[Bug 1469744] Re: [needs-packaging] 1.22.6 is not packaged in trusty

2015-07-17 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Curtis, or anyone else affected,

Accepted juju-core into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-
core/1.22.6-0ubuntu1~14.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1475678] [NEW] Unity8 not informing clients that they are not visible and thus can stop rendering

2015-07-17 Thread Gerry Boland
Public bug reported:

Currently on the phone, apps stop rendering when shell hides them,
because shell also lifecycle stops the app. App isn't actually told it
should stop rendering, we just SIGSTOP its process.

But some apps are not lifecycle stopped, e.g. music. So we should have
unity8 tell the app to stop rendering.

This will be a multi-step process:
1. Qtubuntu
Mir has a attribute to set on surfaces to tell them they are visible/occluded:
(see mir/include/common/mir_toolkit/common.h)
mir_surface_attrib_visibility - part of the MirSurfaceAttrib enum.

This indicates these possible values:
typedef enum MirSurfaceVisibility
{
mir_surface_visibility_occluded = 0,
mir_surface_visibility_exposed
} MirSurfaceVisibility;

On the client side (qtubuntu), you need to listen for this attribute change,
and connect it to QWindowSystemInterface::handleExposeEvent() which tells Qt
how much of a QWindow is being drawn.
Note there is also a QWindowSystemInterface::handleWindowStateChanged()
handler, which use use to explicitly set QWindow show/hide, but Qt tends to
release its GL context on hide, which we may not desire. It may not hurt, worth
a look.

2. QtMir
There are methods on mir::scene::Surface to set and get the MirSurfaceAttrib
attributes. I think it would make sense to use the pre-existing
MirSurfaceItem::visible property, so that if a surface is marked visible=false,
then that will dispatch the mir_surface_visibility_occluded event to the
client, so it will stop drawing.

3. Unity8
Correctly set visible=false when an application surface is occluded, and true
when visible. QML has no automatic way of doing that (i.e. occlusion detection)

[Bug 1474003] Re: Firefox 39 keeps crashing

2015-07-17 Thread Thorsten Munsch
@Matt: Thanks.

@Chris: Sorry for not mentioning the pepperflash plugin. It wasn't my
intention to let you work hours for no reason.

On my notebook Firefox 39 with the same plugins/extensions run fine. I
only have this problem my workstation at home. The only difference is
that the notebook uses onboard Intel graphics and the workstation Nvidia
propritary drivers. With my 14.04 workstation with Xcfe 4.10, two AMD
cards with propritary driver and four monitors connected there's also no
problem.

Btw. 11.2.* may be still supported and gets security updates, but why
shouln't we enjoy the much much better performance of the newer flash
versions..

So you think it's a pepperflash bug?

I'll provide a gdb logfile from my workstation at home this evening,
when I find the time for it.

[Bug 1475618] [NEW] Why does wily already have -proposed pocket while still being in development

2015-07-17 Thread Pascal De Vuyst

Why does wily (Ubuntu 15.10) already have -proposed pocket at this
moment, e.g. latest Firefox 39 is in wily-proposed while wily still has
Firefox 38 and trusty, utopic and vivid -updates pocket already has
Firefox 39. I would expect Firefox 39 to be in wily directly instead of
wily-proposed since wily is still in development and doesn't need

This is actually unrelated to GCC5, it's a result of the platform-api

already been prepared to fix this :)

[Bug 1475620] [NEW] hibernate / resume works, but triggers recordfail grub menu

2015-07-17 Thread Ewan
Public bug reported:

My priority for this bug:
Low - I have a workaround that doesn't appear to cause negative side effects.

Symptom:
After hibernate, grub2 menu is displayed for 30 seconds

Workaround:
set GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=0

More details:

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

I have re-enabled hibernate, and it basically works. Information in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1443735/ causes me
to believe that on hibernate, recordfail is getting set. As a
consequence, the grub2 menu is displayed, unless GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT
is set to 0.

Grub2 team suggested this should not be happening, and that a new bug be
opened for this. My interpretation of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage was to log this bug here,
which I've done via ubuntu-bug linux

 I suppose another way would be to conditionally append the value via a
 postinst script, but I further suppose you declined to take this
 approach because it lacks elegance.

It would cause an unnecessary conffile prompt on the next conffile
update following that, since it would appear to be a user-made change.

That's why the best thing to do is to leave files in /etc/ for only
users to change directly, rather than have maintainer scripts change
them. We do use .d/ directories to try and help with this, but I don't
think it'd help in this case as it won't solve the user confusion issue
you're trying to solve.

  As far as I understand, the recordfail path should only get followed after
  a boot failure.
 I opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1475620
 - I agree the issue should get corrected at source, if possible.

Thank you for filing this. I've moved it to grub2 as I'm pretty sure
it's the grub2 packaging that arranges the recordfail test (as opposed
to kernel code or packaging).

[Bug 1475608] [NEW] bluetooth dual sim

2015-07-17 Thread Carl Verstraete
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a BQ phone with 2 SIM-cards.
When connected to my handsfree-set (built-in radio set Opel), it shows the
provider of my 2nd SIM.

When someone phones me on SIM 1, it doesn't go to the hands-free set.
But I when I answer the phone (while still connected with BT), I cannot
hear the other person, nor does he hear me.

Calls on SIM 2 are working as expected.

Regards,
Carl

[Bug 1475629] Re: [plugin] allow dynamic name

2015-07-17 Thread Jonas G. Drange
From [1]:

The System Settings main screen should have an item named
according to the device capabilities: “Displays” if it allows multiple
simultaneous displays; otherwise “Brightness Display” if it allows
switching to an external display (Pocket PC); otherwise just “Brightness”.

[Bug 1437510] Re: Screen dim is not following the lock screen timeout (always dimming after 50 seconds)

2015-07-17 Thread Alexandros Frantzis
@ken-vandine
 If we don't want to set dim-timeout separately, and remain relative to
 activity-timeout,
 we should drop the setting completely and ubuntu-system-compositor should dim
 the
 screen on activity-timeout - 10
@ogra
 this is still not properly fixed, can we eventually get a fix inside u-s-c
 please ...

USC was designed to offer a setInactivityTimeouts(poweroff, dim)
interface for maximum flexibility, and also so that it could provide
only mechanism, not enforce policy. We believe USC shouldn't hardcode
policy like dim timeout is 10 seconds before power-off timeout.
Perhaps there needs to be a central place to handle power management
policy, but USC shouldn't be it.

This debate is yet another effect of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-system-compositor/+bug/1444042.

 a) if you dont switch the time (i.e. before the OTA with the fix you have set
 your lock timeout to 10min)
 it will use 50sec hardocded after OTA

I don't understand this statement, which probably means I missing some
background info here...

 b) if you set your device to never where you likely want to use the GPS
 while driving, the dim value
 defaults to 50sec which most likely can even risk your life while tapping
 madly on teh screen to see where
 you are going with your GPS ...

From a quick look at the requests that USC receives when changing the
lock timeout from the UI, this seems to be an effect of the code that
sets the timeouts in ubuntu-system-settings. In particular, when
selecting Never in the UI, USC receives (-1 means don't change):

set_inactivity_timeouts(0, -1) // set power-off timeout to 0s (disable)
set_inactivity_timeouts(-1, 50) // set dim timeout to 50s

i.e.. we get an explicit request to set the dim timeout to 50 seconds,
whereas we should get a request to disable it (set it to 0).

I'm gone now for 2 weeks, so if anyone is able to test that there are no
regressions coming from the accessible patch, let sil2100 know about it.
I've marked the (vivid) silo to be ready and AP tested in the landing
info, so if the patch works / does not regress both wily + vivid silos
can be landed.

merging from Debian. Decreasing the amount of private header users is

[Bug 830915] Re: [Oneiric] Error during kernel upgrade: Could not locate dkms.conf file

And in addition, there's a bug in the dkms script. The string $File:
$conf does not exist. around line 462 of the file /usr/bin/dkms or
/usr/sbin/dkms should be replaced into $File: $read_conf_file does not
exist. because $conf is empty when it is executed here. That's why the
output is File: does not exist. without any information about the
filename.

[Bug 1474003] Re: Firefox 39 keeps crashing

2015-07-17 Thread Thorsten Munsch
So, little update here. As I've sent #24 Firefox 39 crashed on my
notebook, too!

I googled for the freshplayer Bug, but only found
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1071421 which suggest, that
Firefox 40 developer doesn't crash with freshplayer.

After downloading I copied all my profile data into the dev-profile,
started FF40 and it crashed.

Created a new profile without any data import - Firefox 40 crashed.

Downgraded to Flash 11.2 from the official repo - Firefox 40 crashed.

Tried Firefox 39 from the repo with 11.2 from the repo - Firefox 39
crashed!

So this is a Firefox bug, because it exists since the update to 39 from
the official Ubuntu 14.04 repos.

[Bug 1443735] Re: recordfail false positive causes headless servers to hang on boot by default

2015-07-17 Thread Ewan
Robie,

 We deliberately didn't do this is as will cause a prompt
I suppose another way would be to conditionally append the value via a postinst
script, but I further suppose you declined to take this approach because it
lacks elegance.

 As far as I understand, the recordfail path should only get followed after a
 boot failure.
I opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1475620 - I agree
the issue should get corrected at source, if possible.

 Please feel free to file a separate bug
I'll see first the outcome of 1475620.

[Bug 1475629] [NEW] [plugin] allow dynamic name

2015-07-17 Thread Jonas G. Drange
Public bug reported:

Reproduce (always, trunk):
Try changing a plugin's name dynamically.

What happens:
You can't.

What should happen:
You should be able to change the name dynamically, like you can the icon,
keywords and visibility.

Solution:
Add
void setDisplayName(const QString name);

to existing interface which provides:
void setIcon(const QUrl icon);
void setKeywords(const QStringList keywords);
void setVisible(bool visible);

I do not think name of plugin should change, as this could have
implications elsewhere. Only the displayName should change.

[Bug 1475633] [NEW] New upstream version 2.4 / please merge with Debian 8's wpa 2.3

2015-07-17 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

There are new wpa_supplicant versions 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 which bring a
horde of improvements to eg WiFi Direct (P2P) and others:
http://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/plain/wpa_supplicant/ChangeLog

The 2.3 is already part of the stable Debian 8.0 release so it would be
useful to sync with at least that for 15.10 (and 16.04 LTS).

--- Debian stable changelog ---
 wpa (2.3-1+deb8u1) jessie-security; urgency=high
 .
   * import P2P: Validate SSID element length before copying it
 (CVE-2015-1863) from upstream (Closes: #783148).

 wpa (2.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream release:
 - fixed by the new upstream version:
   + wpa: arbitrary command execution via action scripts (Closes: #765352).
 wpasupplicant: fixed wpa_cli action script execution to use more
 robust mechanism (CVE-2014-3686).
 hostapd: fixed hostapd_cli action script execution to use more robust
 mechanism (CVE-2014-3686).
   + wpasupplicant: MAC addressing changing broken after updating to 2.2-1
 (Closes: #763775).
   + drop ap_config_c_fix-typo-for-capabilities, applied upstream.
 - backport Include ieee802_11_common.c in wpa_supplicant build
   unconditionally from HEAD, to fix a newly introduced FTBS on, at least,
   kfreebsd.
   * bump standards version to 3.9.6, no changes necessary.

wpa (2.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New upstream release:
 - import suggested changes from Gerald Turner gtur...@unzane.com (see
   #718651 for details).
   + disable ACS for hostapd on kfreebsd-any (FTBS).
 - fixed by the new upstream version:
   + wpa_supplicant: OpenSSL: tls_connection_handshake - Failed to read
   (Closes: #561081).
   + wpasupplicant: new upstream release 2.2 (Closes: #718651).
   + wpasupplicant: -s option not documented in man page (Closes: #608135).
 - refresh patches:
   + drop 13_human_readable_signal.patch, applied upstream.
   + drop hostapd_fix-WDS-VLAN-bridge-handling.patch, applied upstream.
   + drop fix-spelling-s-algorith-algorithm.patch, applied upstream.
 - adapt build configs for hostapd/ wpa_supplicant 2.2:
   + sync with updated upstream defconfigs.
   + keep Hotspot 2.0 support disabled for the time being.
   + hostapd: keep sqlite3 support disabled for the time being.
 - update debian/copyright manually, the wpa v2 branch was relicensed from
   (BSD-3-clause || GPL-2) to BSD-3-clause only (for the most part). This
   doesn't change the licensing state as the BSD-3-clause license is
   compatible with GPL-2.
   * drop pre-wheezy /lib/init/rw/sendsigs.omit.d/ migration support, invert the
 versioned initscripts dependency to a versioned breaks relation.
   * migrate from /var/run/ to /run/.
   * adapt get-orig-source for wpa 2.2.
   * drop version qualifiers for libnl3 build dependencies, as they're
 fullfilled by wheezy.
   * drop version qualifiers for the lsb-base build dependency, as they're
 fullfilled by squeeze.
   * shorten short description for hostapd.
   * sort debian/control entries.
   * make lintian happy (invalid-short-name-in-dep5-copyright bsd) and call it
 BSD-3-clause.
   * enable DEBUG_SYSLOG and set DEBUG_SYSLOG_FACILITY=LOG_DAEMON, as requested
 by Cyril Brulebois k...@debian.org to improve logging options for d-i and
 netcfg (Closes: #761922).
   * fix various typos around existence, thanks to A. Costa agco...@gis.net,
 (Closes: #683636).
   * ap_config.c: fix typo for capabilities.
   * remove no longer required lintian override (spelling-error-in-binary for
 the).

[Bug 1453117] Re: Partitions not recognized because of kernel option CONFIG_ACORN_PARTITION_CUMANA

2015-07-17 Thread Romain Izard
The issue has also been seen in http://askubuntu.com/questions/638291
/unable-to-mount-external-usb-ssd

I also reproduced it by chance with a SD card configured with an ARM
bootloader located in block 2+. Changing one byte in block #6 restored
the normal behaviour, where all partitions are correctly detected.

The issue did not exist in Trusty, it was added in the initial kernel
configuration for Utopic and still exists in Vivid.

[Bug 1475470] Re: Recommends libgluezilla which doesn't exist

2015-07-17 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue.

I can confirm that th recommendations are still there in the latest
version of mono (3.2.8+dfsg-4ubuntu4) on Ubuntu Wily. It looks like the
libgluezilla package existed at one point, but it has long since been
removed. (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=657290)

I found that this bug also affected Debian, so I filed a bug report
there and have attached a bug watch.

[Bug 1475055] Re: The wireless on this machine (Dell XPS 15 9343) is constantly crashing

2015-07-17 Thread Seth Forshee
The Broadcom wireless on this machine is supported via a proprietary
driver from Broadcom and not from an in-kernel driver. Changing the
affected package to bcmwl-kernel-source.

I didn't see anything in dmesg about the wireless problems, just a bunch
of warnings about reading the EDID for your panel.

You should file a separate bug for the lockups.

[Bug 592434] Re: ssh -X user@machine hangs when using exit to terminate

2015-07-17 Thread Bryan Quigley
I've given up on it for now.. it requires substancial changes and is a
quasi-design flaw with dbus.

I am curious (- I haven't checked) what happens with the switch to
sdbus/kdbus.

Eventually it might be worthwhile to actually have dbus start and manage
your ssh session (the server side only of course) and then everything
should might work fine, then you can have bash as a systemd managed user
job.

[Bug 1475662] [NEW] Kernel postrm calls /etc/kernel/postinst.d/*

2015-07-17 Thread Philipp Kern
Public bug reported:

Looking at linux-image-extra-3.19.0-18-generic here, but I expect this
to be pretty pervasive. This is its postrm:

#!/bin/sh
set -e

case $0::$1 in
*.postinst::configure|*.postrm::remove)
depmod -a -F /boot/System.map-3.19.0-18-generic 3.19.0-18-generic ||
true
for dir in /etc/kernel/postinst.d
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/3.19.0-18-generic
do
if [ -d $dir ]; then
run-parts --verbose --exit-on-error
--arg=3.19.0-18-generic --arg=/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-18-generic $dir
fi
done
;;
esac

As you can see it executes /etc/kernel/postinst.d/* instead of
/etc/kernel/postrm.d/* even if it's called as a postrm script. Why? The
problem for us is that this re-executes dkms's autoinstaller, which
recompiles certain modules even if the kernel is being removed. But I
find this behavior pretty surprising regardless of this.

[Bug 1475166] Re: Ubuntu 15.04 Install Error with Avago Controller

2015-07-17 Thread Chris J Arges
Bosa,

3.19 series ppc64el kernels can be found here in the vivid archive:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/vivid/+source/linux

Go ahead and try this one:
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/7546230

These two should be sufficient:
linux-image-3.19.0-22-generic_3.19.0-22.22_ppc64el.deb (15.8 MiB)
linux-image-extra-3.19.0-22-generic_3.19.0-22.22_ppc64el.deb (37.8 MiB)

If you have DKMS modules or anything that requires headers to be
rebuilt, install header files too.

Thanks,
