[Bug 1476809] Re: can't turn on bluetooth

2015-07-21 Thread mikahdh
** Description changed:

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 15.04 (r21), Nexus 4

It is impossible to turn on bluetooth. The switch always toggles itself
off, doesn't matter which bluetooth button I use (drawer, bluetooth,
  battery).
+
+ ### EDIT ###
+ This morning after I switched on the phone bluetooth worked. The switch
stayed 'on'. Could establish a functinal connection with my bluetooth mouse.
There was even the bluetooth icon at the top drawer which was missing yesterday
and is gone again right now.

[Bug 1476907] Re: Abrowser 39 crashes (segmentation fault).

2015-07-21 Thread Tyler Johnson
** Description changed:

This is the same bug that has appeared on the Trisquel GNU/Linux forums:
  https://trisquel.info/en/forum/abrowser-behaves-strangely-after-system-update

- I've tested Abrowser on three machine. On one of them (running Ubuntu
- 14.04 x64) , everything is fine. On the other two (both running 14.04
- x32), there is an almost instant segmentation fault. Interestingly, the
- segmentation fault is NOT instant if I load a non-default profile using
- something like:
+ I've installed (from the legimet/abrowser-kde ppa) and tested Abrowser

  mkdir ~/Desktop/FF-Temp ; abroswer --profile ~/Desktop/FF-Temp

- Although visiting certain website (DuckDuckGo, Startpage, Google) gives
- me the crash. So, perhaps visiting pages that execute certain HTML
- elements, javascript, etc. is what is setting this bug off.
+ When I load new profiles, I can still trigger the bug by visiting

PS: for whatever it may be worth, after finding, downloading, and
installing a .deb package from the FSF mirror of the Trisquel repos, I
can confirm that this bug doesn't affect version 38, just 39.

Also: to my knowledge, the bug doesn't affect Firefox (although I've
removed Firefox from my system in favor of abrowser, so I can't say for
- sure). I've tried to add abrowser to the list of packages, but the
- website has insisted on changing it to Firefox.
+ sure). For this reason, I've tried to add abrowser to the list of

+
+ 'abrowser' is a binary package. This bug has been assigned to its
+ source package 'firefox' instead.

[Bug 1318351] Re: mdadm doesn't assemble imsm raids during normal boot

2015-07-21 Thread Eren
Hello,

This bug persists in fresh Ubuntu 14.04.2 Server (I confirm #3). I have
a FakeRAID controller in one of our supermicro servers. Installation
occurs normally, but when first booted, it doesn't boot correctly. I see
that nomdmonddf nomdmonisw is appended to the boot parameters. For
first boot, I needed to remove those lines via grub before booting, boot
the box, and comment out the file:

/etc/default/grub.d/dmraid2mdadm.cfg

When those parameters are not included, it runs perfectly. I didn't need
to change any mdadm.conf or other. I just needed to remove those boot
parameters.

[Bug 1476811] [NEW] Please merge nginx 1.9.3-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2015-07-21 Thread Thomas Ward
Public bug reported:

Debian Unstable has nginx 1.9.3-1, which is the latest upstream Mainline
release.

After discussion with the server team, and the release team, and the
Technical Board, it would be desired to sync 1.9.3 into Wily, given that
this and then later 1.10.x will land in X-series.

There is a lot of discussion related to what will be done for X-series,
but the plan of action for X-series requires a merge of 1.9.3 from
Debian into Ubuntu for Wily, with future merges likely.

[Bug 1439222] Re: Implement emoji in Ubuntu

2015-07-21 Thread Lalo Martins
Also I just spent about two hours testing whether colour fonts work on
ubuntu  seems they're not. Freetype might support them, but something
else (fontconfig? gtk+qt?) doesn't; they don't show up in font selectors
(e.g. in the Gimp), and opening one of those files in the font viewer
causes a buggy window. Interestingly, Nautilus does display a couple of
characters as a preview, although not in colour.

Should we make that a separate bug?

[Bug 1476781] Re: [mako] cannot send sms unless a network connection is active

2015-07-21 Thread Tony Espy
@Tiago

Does this code run before ofono is started? Relying on the property
'rild.libpath' seems to risk future breakage if were ever to release a
version with native ofono modem support ( ie. not using rild ).

What restricts the access to dev/socket/property-service, apparmor? So
it sounds like on mako, this property is set by some other process vs.
the build.prop file, which causes the error when it's queried directly?

[Bug 1095498] Re: Printing PDFs with images is hideously slow on HP LaserJet 3030 MFP

2015-07-21 Thread bruno
See Bug #1476705 for a similar issue.

It is possible to replace pstopdf with pstocairo (and return to the
default) with these commands:

$ lpadmin -p printer -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftocairo
to switch over and
$ lpadmin -p printer -R pdftops-renderer-default=pstopdf
to switch back.

In my case (HP Color Laserjet 2605), it is much better.

[Bug 1476791] [NEW] lxpanel does not reserves space on wrong monitor in mutlimonitor setup.

2015-07-21 Thread Brendan Perrine

xrandr conmmand line for the config

xrandr --output VIRTUAL1 --off --output DP2 --off --output DP1 --off
--output HDMI1 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output LVDS1
--mode 1366x768 --pos 0x1080 --rotate normal --output VGA1 --off

and lxpanel set to reseve space for the window manager with maximized windows
it does not. In the attached screenshot I used a long comand dmesg and then
scrolled
With the smaller laptop screen below. The screenshot shows an entire rectangle
but the latpop screen is 1366x768. on the external hdmi monitor open a
terminal and maxmize it Then run dmesg sudo apt-get update or another command
that prints a lot of text. then scroll down in the terminal to the bottom.
Start typing a command and notice that what you are typing is obscured.
lxpanel:

I expected the maximized window to have the bottom not hidden by the panel on
my hdmi monitor it obscures the bottom line so I cannot see what I am tying in

[Bug 1459643] Re: Automatically update time does not work on mobile network

2015-07-21 Thread Pat McGowan
I was able to get the phone in a state where the time did not update
because the phone was in an inconsistent state with regard to cellular
data status. The indicator did not show a data connection but the
pulldown did. Whenever the network indicator shows the data connection,
the time was properly set on automatic.

This seems related to bug #1470900

[Bug 1476787] [NEW] apt-key update is failing if 39 keys in trusted.gpg.d

2015-07-21 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

'apt-key update' is failing with return code 2 if 39 keys in

If I remove any of the keys so that 38 or less keys are in
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d the problem doesn't occurs.

I'm using the apt package 1.0.1ubuntu2.8 from trusty-updates

[Bug 1347726] Re: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions

2015-07-21 Thread Koji
I have the same issue, but d-i preseed/early_command string umount
/media || true doesn't let it bypass the issue. I still see the
partition, in my case /dev/sda2, is mounted.

Is there any other way to workaround?

[Bug 1455580] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-07-21 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From thierry.fa...@fr.ibm.com 2015-07-21 18:15 EDT---
One of the last commit, part of the 1.2.26 release
commit 09630ae59954de064f379f085e710ba34b999ae4 is related to LMB and affinity,
and commit 09630ae59954de064f379f085e710ba34b999ae4 is about lsslot command for
memory output.
These 2 commits dated of june 2015 seem to justify need of getting them
available.
As powerpc-ibm-util is IBM specific I believe that upgrading the package is
easier than applying some commit to current release and do backport + rebuild
package + test.. By default, getting this new package reduce time of testing
already done.

This issue is discussed upstream in the appropriate github issue

[Bug 1476781] Re: [mako] cannot send sms unless a network connection is active

2015-07-21 Thread Tiago Salem Herrmann
Problem here is that the telepathy-ofono mission control plugins runs a
getprop rild.libpath in order to detect if there is at least one modem
present in the device.

getprop tries to query dev/socket/property_service socket and if that fails, it
fallsback to read /system/build.prop.
We decided to just allow the plugin to read build.prop. It works fine on arale
and krillin, but on mako it seems the variable is not present in the file. If
you run getprop manually it will have permissions to read the socket, and the
right value is returned.

This makes the telepathy-ofono mission control plugin fail to create the
accounts and set the property that tells mission control to never
disable the account when there is no network.

We have two options here: Either add rild.libpath to build.prop, or
allow getprop to access dev/socket/property_service when launched via
mission-control process.

[Bug 1476165] Re: systemd-boot

2015-07-21 Thread caolam
Problem solved, by changing to system settings/software and
updates/additional drivers/video driver fglrx-updates(propietary) from
the (trouble causing) ../ X.Org X AMD/ATI wrapper. I now (too late)
appreciate the boot screen about graphic drivers and reboot.

With this driver correction all seems normal and well. So it was not a
'bug' rather a small reconfigure.

Apologies and thanks,

[Bug 1476781] Re: [mako] cannot send sms unless a network connection is active

Currently neither the /usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5 nor the
/usr/lib/telepathy/telepathy-ofono allow read access to
/system/build.prop or dev/socket/property_service, so I'm not sure how
this ever worked.

Notice that 'dev/socket/property_service' is missing the leading '/' which
means that to add a rule for it, we would have to do something like:

'attach_disconnected' is something I'd like to avoid since it is at best
a workaround for a limitation in apparmor (that we are working on but
won't be fixed for a while). As such, I'd prefer that we add
rild.libpath to build.prop if that doesn't have any other
repercussions.

If we do that, will read access need to be granted to
/system/build.prop? If you are going the rild.libpath route, please
paste the denial and I can fix the profile accordingly.

Thanks!

[Bug 1476417] Re: FloatingIpManager in neutron.py missing is_supported method

2015-07-21 Thread TimS
This affects us as well. I did some investigation to see what was going on.
The new FloatingIpManager code was added in this commit:
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/86a66283ccfe146a9743bb7db9433e1f2166b509.
It was added for bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1349841

Apparently the supporting code that has the missing is_supported()
method appears to be from this commit:
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/936fc59aa8c9b1a45aaefc9779741c84ed3fea90.
It is from bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1292022.

I think
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/936fc59aa8c9b1a45aaefc9779741c84ed3fea90
needs to be pulled into the icehouse branch.

[Bug 1476705] Re: postscript printer hideously slow in some cases (pdftops)

2015-07-21 Thread bruno
** Description changed:

With my (old) postscript printer, print a single page can take many
minutes on some situations. It happens with some PDF files (not all) and
Firefox printing of Google map, for example. When this happens, I
observed in system monitor that pdftops is running continuously. After
some manual PDF - PS conversions, I see that pdftops inflates the file
size for problematic cases, but is ok for other files (size similar to
the original file, or even smaller). I don't know if modern Postscript
printers can handle this quickly, but it's unacceptable here and
certainly not an efficient way to print those files.

So I suspect that pdftops should be fixed.

For example, I join a problematic pdf produced by Google Map in Firefox.
I tried many conversions. As you can see, I get a much larger file (36
times) with pdftops. It is worse with pdf2ps (and it takes longer to
process), so replace pdftops by pdf2ps is not an option for me. However,
pdftocairo quickly produces an efficient file. I have the same success
if I open the PDF file with Evince and print it as a Postscript file. I
get a similar file if I print to PS directly from Google Map (Firefox).
Of course these small PS files produced by pdftocairo, Evince of Firefox
  print flawlessly on my printer.

- Is it possible to replace pdftops with pdftocairo? I tried with a simple
- script but it doesn't work (or don't know how).
-
See also Bug # 1095498 which I suspect is the same (old) thing, but I fill a
new one since it doesn't seem to be printer specific.
Of course, another workaround could be to use a PCL driver but no one is
available for my printer (HP Color Laserjet 2605dn).

[Bug 1476417] Re: FloatingIpManager in neutron.py missing is_supported method

2015-07-21 Thread TimS
This affects us as well. I did some investigation to see what was going on.
The new FloatingIpManager code was added in this commit:
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/86a66283ccfe146a9743bb7db9433e1f2166b509.
It was added for bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1349841

Apparently the supporting code that has the missing is_supported()
method appears to be from this commit:
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/936fc59aa8c9b1a45aaefc9779741c84ed3fea90.
It is from bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/horizon/+bug/1292022.

I think
https://github.com/openstack/horizon/commit/936fc59aa8c9b1a45aaefc9779741c84ed3fea90
needs to be pulled into the icehouse branch.

[Bug 1474013] Re: patch for CVE-2015-4634

2015-07-21 Thread Paul Gevers
I just uploaded a version to jessie (Debian) that can be (fake)synced to
Vivid and Utopic once accepted by the security team. Unfortunately, I
won't have the time to work on the patch for Trusty and Precise for some
time to come, but Trusty should be trivial. For Precise, there is a
whole stack of patches still waiting in bug 1210822.

[Bug 1476781] Re: [mako] cannot send sms unless a network connection is active

2015-07-21 Thread Tiago Salem Herrmann
@jdstrand we added support for it in the overlay ppa:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/206890387/telepathy-mission-control-
5_1%3A5.16.3-1ubuntu1_1%3A5.16.3-1ubuntu1.0.diff.gz

@tony mission control is launched by ofono-setup upstart job, and this is what
we have in the upstart job:
start on started dbus

so we don't wait for ofono. I think we did in the past, but for some
reason waiting on system services in a session upstart job stopped
working at some point.

What? the path is /bin\n/mkfs.btrfs? That is clearly why it is wrong.
Hypothesis is that it is picking up the \n from the end of the $PATH env
string. Add a dummy path at the end and it works!

PATH=$PATH:/bin/dummy
root@lenovo:~# mkfs -t btrfs -f test.img

Can this be fixed as it's screwing up a lot of regression tests we're
doing with btrfs

[Bug 1455580] Re: [Ubuntu 14.04.03] powerpc-utils package update

2015-07-21 Thread Adam Conrad
Diane, it's not so much a rejection as a request for clarification. The
original bug report (and this is true of pretty much all the please
update to latest upstream version bugs) just included the new version
number and a description of the package. That doesn't satisfy any
requirements on our end to determine *why* a new version is needed, all
it tells us is that a new version is wanted, which isn't a reason in
itself to update.

[Bug 1476844] [NEW] loading firmware into hplj1000 twice

2015-07-21 Thread Pavel Shvagirev
Public bug reported:

/lib/udev/hplj1000 doesn't handle another $DEVNAME case when udev calls
it twice.

Udev calls the script twice for some reason on the system described
below.

At first, udev calls hplj1000 with /dev/bus/usb/004/059 as a $DEVNAME which
is not desired/not supported.
Then it calls the script once again with /dev/usb/lp0 as a $DEVNAME which is
desired and must be used to load a firmware to.

The problem is that the script handles only /dev/usb/usb* case but not the
/dev/bus/usb/*.
This leads to firmware being loaded twice which causes HP LaserJet 1000 to hang
and stop processing tasks.

Attached patch adds another case to the /lib/udev/hplj1000 script that
silently exits if the script is called with undesired value.

[Bug 1476699] Re: Sync unionfs-fuse 1.0-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2015-07-21 Thread Artur Rona
Hello Bernd,

thank you for your time and efforts making Ubuntu better! However, this package
cannot be synced, because Ubuntu delta has not been applied in Debian. It seems
to be a merge.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/HowToMerge
Could you prepare and upload a debdiff?

Thanks!

How is this workflow meant to work? I believe the translation teams
should send the updated translations upstream? Do they routinely check
if some random user has contributed some translation fixes in

[Bug 1476169] Re: Update Thunderbird to 38.1.0

2015-07-21 Thread UlfZibis
Since I use the same TB-profile from Windows and Ubuntu, sooner of later I
expect a broken profile, especially, because the Lightning version is also
different.
So it would be nice, if Ubuntu would not wait so long time with updating to the
current release of TB.

[Bug 1465685] Re: OTA4 SMS function now fails

2015-07-21 Thread Tony Espy
@LionelB

Thanks for the feedback.

First, here's an example of using the send-sms script ( with dummy
numbers ):

/usr/share/ofono/scripts/send-sms /ril_1 617666 dummy message 0

The other thing to try is to swap your SIMs and see if that makes a
difference. You currently have the 3 SIM in slot 1, which is currently
enabled for 3g, whereas the Phone Co-op SIM is in the second slot, which
is only capable of 2g. It could be that Phone Co-op's network doesn't
support non-3g SMS messages. You can change which slot is capable of 3g
via the Cellular system settings, or you can merely swap the SIMs and
reboot.

[Bug 1363519] Re: start-stop-daemon fails debsums check

2015-07-21 Thread Adam Conrad
** Description changed:

+ [ SRU Justification ]
+ Currently, systems installed from live media have several critical files
(like initctl and start-stop-daemon) failing debsums checks because they are
incorrectly using the files from the release pocket versions of their packages,
rather than the -updates version that's actually installed.
+
+ [ Test Case ]
+ Build a test CD, run through an install, and verify that, post-install, all
the files referenced in the patches are the expected content. Those files are:
+
+ /sbin/initctl (should be from the -updates version of upstart)
+ /sbin/start-stop-daemon (should be from the -updates version of dpkg)
+ /bin/hostname (should be from the release pocket version of hostname)
+ /usr/sbin/policy-rc.d (should not exist on the filesystem, post-install)
+
+ [ Regression Potential ]
+ Assuming the above test case passes, pretty minimal. The change isn't
invasive, except for swapping silly mv do_stuff mv semantics with more
correct dpkg-divert add/remove.
+
+ [ Original Report ]
After fresh install from 14.04.1-amd64-dvd - debsums -c results in:
/sbin/start-stop-daemon. I checked dpkg package with dpkg -s dpkg and got:
Status: install ok installed, Version: 1.17.5ubuntu5.3 (the latest version) but
when I did md5sum /sbin/start-stop-daemon, I got
b1b8894ae2e3b547dca0e288634cce4a, which is md5sum for start-stop-daemon from
dpkg version 1.17.5ubuntu5!
I confirmed the problem in Ubuntu/Xubuntu 14.04.1-i386 (VirtualBox) - the
same case - latest version of dpkg package contains older version of
start-stop-daemon. I guess this is the same problem I reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/live-build/+bug/1150737. I fixed the
problem with sudo apt-get install --reinstall dpkg - simple if You know about
it, otherwise You have outdated/buggy/ package/system...
  Rgds!

[Bug 1150737] Re: live-build causes installation old /sbin/initctl and start-stop-daemon to be installed in Cloud Images

2015-07-21 Thread Adam Conrad
** Description changed:

- I've encountered at least five different Amazon AMIs which all fail
- debsums right out of the box. The offending binaries are upstart:
- /sbin/initctl and dpkg: /sbin/start-stop-daemon. Both are handy
- locations to drop a rootkit. Most prominently, the banner-choice for the
- GUI AWS console wizard in us-east-1 is ami-3fec7956, which seems to be
- created by Canonical (ami-3fec7956 099720109477/ubuntu/images/ebs
- /ubuntu-precise-12.04-amd64-server-20130124).
+ [ SRU Info ]

  us-west-1: ami-b81230fd
  us-west-2: ami-da1810ae
  ap-northeast-1: ami-77cf4976

I analyzed only initctl, as it was the first to trip my alarms. In the
following examples, the left side is the one from the upstart package
version dpkg claims to have installed, the right is the one actually on
  the system.

  * A side-by-side hex/ascii of the diff :
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=JGN1rMC5
  * The same, with some color: http://cl.ly/image/2x2l3S1j1f38
  * A side-by-side comparison of objdump --disassemble-all:
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=5ppcJG2H
  * The same, with some color: http://cl.ly/image/2d0w1I3W083x

The file size is the same, but clearly it is not the one from the
package. objdump interpreted this delta as having a mov instruction,
then executing a conditional jump. This looks scary, but I'm no
expert. This may be only a side-effect of trying to disassemble code.

This is either malicious, or a totally benign mistake, but in either
case, Canonical should not be distributing AMIs which cannot pass
  rudimentary integrity checks.

To reproduce, simply start an AWS instance with one of these AMIs,
install debsums, and run something like:

  for PKG in `dpkg --get-selections | awk '{print $1}'`; do echo ${PKG}:
failsums; debsums $PKG | grep FAILED failsums; done

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!
