[Bug 1462688] Re: ubi-timezone failed exit code 1 error when installing UbuntuStudio Wily-15.10 32bit version

2015-08-28 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Doesn't seem to make Xubuntu or Ubuntu-GNOME crash anymore (tested here
in live mode); I haven't tested Kubuntu yet which appears like it would
be a little more affected...

We should still update the timezone files, but at least it's not
crippling for the installer; so I'm reducing the priority to Medium.

[Bug 1489977] [NEW] Nautilus no thumbnails and high cpu usage

2015-08-28 Thread Usama Akkad
Public bug reported:

When ever I open nautilus in a folder with files that could have
thumbnail it does not show thumbnails and it consume so much CPU power
that the fan of my computer become noisy.

I'm on Ubuntu gnome 15.04

Thumbnail only shows the clock symbol on the file without showing
thumbnail and it keep using about 10% without me even using it. When I
close Nautilus I see no problem. I'm using PCManFM and I don't see
thumbnail there but I do not notice any change in CPU usage.

When I go to a folder without file to preview CPU usage drop. I noticed
that mostly in folders with many files to preview and after about 2
minutes of leaving it open.

What I saw:
1. No thumbnails
2. High CPU usage

How to reproduce:
1. open nautilus on a folder with some files that show preview (Images,
PDF..etc)
2. Wait for two minutes

[Bug 1489980] [NEW] Sync gtkmm2.4 1:2.24.4-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2015-08-28 Thread Logan Rosen
Public bug reported:

Please sync gtkmm2.4 1:2.24.4-2 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Rename libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a to libgtkmm-2.4-1v5, follow-up to the
libstdc++6 ABI transition.
  * Add Breaks/Replaces to the old library package.
  * Build with -std=c++11.
Spoke to doko on IRC who said it was safe to sync. Built in my PPA successfully:
https://launchpad.net/~logan/+archive/ubuntu/arb/+build/7846121
https://launchpad.net/~logan/+archive/ubuntu/arb/+build/7846122

Changelog entries since current wily version 1:2.24.4-1.1ubuntu1:

gtkmm2.4 (1:2.24.4-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.
  * Rename libgtkmm-2.4-1c2a to libgtkmm-2.4-1v5, for the
libstdc++6 ABI transition. Based on a patch from Matthias Klose.

[Bug 1489987] [NEW] Secure Boot failed on Ubuntu 14.04 on Dell E7440

2015-08-28 Thread alkamid
Public bug reported:

(I'm following instructions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
to report this here)

On 2/07/2015 my Ubuntu 14.04 refused to boot because of the Secure Boot
check failure. These are apt logs from the period before the failure:

Start-Date: 2015-07-01 16:15:26
Commandline: apt-get install python-igraph
Install: libigraph0:amd64 (0.6.5-5, automatic), python-igraph:amd64 (0.6.5-1),

Install: fonts-dejavu-core:amd64 (2.34-1ubuntu1)
End-Date: 2015-06-29 19:24:42

End-Date: 2015-06-29 19:24:53

So I didn't even upgrade anything on that day (although I'm not sure
when I rebooted). I'm on Dell E7440, Ubuntu is the only OS installed.
When I switched off Secure Boot in bios, it booted fine. Is this an
indication that my OS was tampered with? If not, might this be a bug?

[Bug 1241986] Re: Cannot connect to WPA/WPA2, EAP-PEAP, MSCHAPV2 network

2015-08-28 Thread JkB
Well, we just took the minimum password length from other authentification
modes. In general, your paasword is safer the longer it is. So, as a workaround
you should change your passwprd to a longer one.
One has to discuss then, if that check can be disabled for future releases.

[Bug 1490005] [NEW] cron logging level 4 not clear for understanding

2015-08-28 Thread Alexander S. Gryanko
Public bug reported:

I turned on logging level 4 for cron(logging failed jobs). I think it's
not clear for understanding which job has been failed:

Aug 28 21:58:22 x05 CRON[14697]: (CRON) error (grandchild #14709 failed with
exit status 1)
Aug 28 22:03:30 x05 CRON[17572]: (CRON) error (grandchild #17599 failed with
exit status 255)
Aug 28 22:06:52 x05 CRON[17560]: (CRON) error (grandchild #17579 failed with
exit status 1)
Aug 28 22:09:33 x05 CRON[17575]: (CRON) error (grandchild #17595 failed with
exit status 1)

This format will be much better:

Aug 28 22:16:01 x05 CRON[22722]: (root) ERR ([22726]ls /nowhere is failed
withstatus 2)
Aug 28 22:17:01 x05 CRON[23005]: (root) ERR ([23009]ls /nowhere is failed

withstatus 2)
Aug 28 22:19:01 x05 CRON[23313]: (root) ERR ([23317]ls /nowhere is failed
withstatus 2)

My small patch to fix this:

[Bug 1490010] [NEW] first boot fails and shutdown fails on vivid with fakeraid

2015-08-28 Thread Mario Villaplana
Public bug reported:

I've been testing booting an Ubuntu 15.04 disk image written onto an
Intel RSTe RAID drive configured for RAID 1. My systemd package version
is 219-7ubuntu6.

This type of RAID is known as a fake raid or external metadata RAID,
configured through mdadm.

In order to get this booted at all, I had to do the following:

e2label /dev/md126p1 /
apt-get -y install mdadm // need to install mdadm of course
rm /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf
vi /etc/default/grub.d/dmraid2mdadm.cfg // blank this file and save
vi /etc/default/grub // add the lines GRUB_DEVICE_LABEL=/ and
GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=0 and save
update-grub
vi /etc/fstab // name filesystem LABEL=/ and save

I added the GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=0 option because the first boot
always fails. It's unable to run fsck against /dev/md126p1. I checked
fsck from a fresh install before rebooting, and it shows the partition
as clean. After the failure, however, the system automatically reboots
with the RAID correctly assembled with the first partition as the root
fileystem.

On shutdown, however (shutdown now) systemd reaches the shutdown
target, but the task gets blocked and the system never shuts down until
I cycle the power.

I've attached the messages printed when I shut down and can provide more
information as needed.

I believe that this happens because mdmon (the md monitoring service,
which is necessary for external metadata RAID arrays to function at all)
is shut down prior to something, perhaps a logging service, that
attempts to write to the disk.

Some side notes: I have not tested the shutdown process thoroughly with
14.04 yet, but I believe it works just fine there. Getting booting from
fake RAID to work at all is very tricky on 12.04 and involved changes to
the initramfs. I plan to file a bug and perhaps a patch against 12.04
for that.

Thank you for your time.

Update: after rebooting back into another OS from which I can access the
partition Ubuntu's installed on, fsck does have to do a minor repair to
the journal. This does not appear when running on a fresh install before
booting and shutting down:

bash-4.2# fsck /dev/md126p1
fsck from util-linux 2.26.1
e2fsck 1.42.10 (18-May-2014)
/: recovering journal

Setting free blocks count to 1748100 (was 1748085)

[Bug 1435706] Re: DevLossTO, FastIoFailTO settings do not match multipath.conf expected values

Is it possible that the issue might be something else that is directly

[Bug 1452601] Re: vivid container's networking.service fails on boot with signal=PIPE

2015-08-28 Thread David Favor
IMHO, systemd seems to be the root of all evil.

touch /etc/dnsmasq.conf has no effect.

net4-dev# systemctl restart lxc-net
net4-dev# systemctl status lxc-net
● lxc-net.service - LXC network bridge setup
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/lxc-net.service; enabled; vendor preset:
enabled)
Active: active (exited) since Fri 2015-08-28 18:20:16 CDT; 9s ago
  Process: 15219 ExecStop=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/lxc-net stop
(code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
  Process: 15223 ExecStart=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/lxc-net start
(code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 15223 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)

Shows lxc-net reported status of success + dnsmasq is never run.

There's just so much wrong here...

The entire /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/lxc/lxc-net script seems never to
require a rethink.

The problem is whoever wrote this imagined the Linux runtime environment
works sensibly (no edge conditions).

Many times they don't.

A simple situation is if OOM (Out of Memory Killer) runs +
scavenges/kill dnsmasq, then much of the state (files/directories)
lxc-net depends on is out of sync... meaning there's no test for dnsmasq
actually running. There's only a test for the lxcbr0 state files
existing. This is an insufficient approach.

I think the solution is to rewrite stop() to handle any edge condition,
so lxc-net can recover normal errors without manual intervention.

I'll take a stab at a rewrite + if my code isn't to embarrassing, I'll
post it.

[Bug 1434986] Re: Not working network connection after boot

2015-08-28 Thread A. Eibach
Confirming with 1.0.4.

But WFM with 0.19.10.0.

BTW, instead of funny guessing, just do

ps -ef | grep NetworkManager

/usr/sbin/NetworkManager *MUST* be running if you want to access the Internet.

1.0.4 did NOT run. When checking /var/log/*.crash files, I found a
network-manager-related crash file which indicated that NM had crashed way
before it got to the graphical login screen.
Downgraded NM and everything worked as expected.

[Bug 1452601] Re: vivid container's networking.service fails on boot with signal=PIPE

2015-08-28 Thread David Favor
Okay, a simple fix that seems to work (at least in my case), is to
comment out the first two guards in the stop function.

So...

#[ x$USE_LXC_BRIDGE = xtrue ] || { exit 0; }
#[ -f ${varrun}/network_up ] || { exit 0; }

Once these are skipped, the code seems to work.

[Bug 1450089] Re: fglrx causes ubuntu to hang before login

2015-08-28 Thread Peter Johnson
I've been able to work around this with the latest Catalyst Pro driver
but it requires downgrading xorg to 1.16.2.

Download and extract Catalyst Pro 14.502.1040 driver
(http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/workstation?os=Linux%20x86_64#catalyst-pro)
Apply patch for kernel 3.19: https://gist.github.com/aginor/4f232d4c28aef7685282
Apply patch I created to fix script bug in driver that prevents package
creation on Ubuntu: https://gist.github.com/PeterJohnson/88137d4c55356b6e6c96

Remove your current fglrx packages and build and install the 14.502.1040
ones. Unfortunately this package does NOT work with xorg 1.17
(different crash occurs) so you'll need to downgrade xorg to 1.16.2.

Install xorg 1.16.2, you'll need the following packages (have to manually
download from the web, as the package manager won't have them):
xorg_7.7+7ubuntu3_amd64.deb
xserver-common_1.16.2.901-1ubuntu4_all.deb
xserver-xorg_7.7+7ubuntu3_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-core_1.16.2.901-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-input-vmmouse_13.0.0-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-all_7.7+7ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-ati_7.4.0-2ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-cirrus_1.5.2-2build1_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-fbdev_0.4.4-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu4_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-mach64_6.9.4-2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-mga_1.6.3-2build1_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-modesetting_0.9.0-1build1_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-neomagic_1.2.8-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau_1.0.11-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.3.3-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-r128_6.9.2-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-radeon_7.4.0-2ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-savage_2.3.7-2ubuntu3_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion_1.7.7-2build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-sisusb_0.9.6-2build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-tdfx_1.4.5-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-trident_1.3.6-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.3-1build2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-vmware_13.0.2-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb

With this, I have X booted and visuals working now on my W8100, but
kdeinit5 is on the crashy side, not sure if it's due to the downgraded X
or some other issue... but it's at last somewhat usable again!

[Bug 1316873] Re: Left mouse button stops working

2015-08-28 Thread Chase
I experience this issue also.

I can be logged in for a while and then the left mouse button will no
longer work

Matt's solution to change consoles and back again seems to resolve it

I'm on Thinkpad T520 with Ubuntu x64 15.04

[Bug 1450089] Re: fglrx causes ubuntu to hang before login

2015-08-28 Thread Stephen Ranger
I tested The 15.7 drivers from AMD today under the desktop drivers and
they worked (though gnome is a bit sluggish). Also, I saw that fglrx
2:15.200-0ubuntu4-2 was released and that seems to have worked for me
better than the AMD driver.
