[Bug 1492597] Re: package shim-signed 1.9~12.04.1+0.8-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-09-07 Thread Steve Langasek
You have the shim-signed package installed on your system, but you have
the BIOS version of grub (grub-pc) installed instead of the UEFI version
(grub-efi-amd64). On Ubuntu 12.04 it is not possible to enforce a
compatible version of grub-install; you will need to either install
grub-efi-amd64, or, if your system is actually a BIOS-based system
rather than UEFI-based, remove shim-signed.

[Bug 1451277] Re: Extremely high IOWait and processes hungs after utopic->vivid upgrade with Iomega Zip drive (IDE)

2015-09-07 Thread Sergio Callegari
>From LKML conversation, fix https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/11/20/581 is not
likely to be applied upstream, because it probably just papers over the
real bug.

The real issue appears with the patch series "scsi: convert host_busy to
atomic_t" that causes regressions on some hardware configurations. Might
not be due to this series either, but to some other race that this
change helps triggering.

I wonder if papering over can be acceptable downstream.

I tried to install Mageia 5 on my new laptop (UEFI) an ASUS N551J with
two graphical cards (intel and nvidia). I have tried every option
mentioned in the errata (hybrid graphics). I have tried the Live KDE 64
DVD and the classical 64 DVD. Nothing works. I am now 'doomed' to use
Mint, that works at once, but I like Mageia much better (if it is
installable).

LiveKDE64DVD:

Sometimes at boottime (LiveDVD) I get many nouveau errors and after a
while I get a KDE desktop (intel detected?). I can than install it and
after reboot I sometimes can configure a user and can log in into KDE.
After a few seconds everything freezes. Poweroff and poweron and than it
freezes already at boottime (blank screen or with nouveau errors with
sometimes I see kernel panic).

Sometimes at boottime (LiveDVD) I get less nouveau errors and it freezes
already (no KDE).

I tried boot options as suggested 'optimus' and/or 'rd.blacklist=nouveau
rd.blacklist=nvidia xdriver=intel' –> No effect. Still nouveau errors at
boottime and/or freezes.

ClassicalKDE64DVD:

Installation works until after reboot. Same problems as with the LiveDVD.
I tried the boot options, no effect. At the point of the installer to configure
the graphics, it suggested 'Intel 810 and later' and not 'use intel only' as
told in the errata. Even with Intel selected I get nouveau errors at boottime,
with or without boot options.

It seems a problem like mentioned in the errata with the hybrid graphics
(Intel+Nvidia), but the suggested options does not work.

Linux Mint 17.1:

No problem, works at once. No errors.

My recollection is that using rd.blacklist didn't work for me, because
the nouveau driver got loaded later in the boot sequence. You could try
adding

  blacklist nouveau

to /etc/modprobe.conf on the installed system to see if that helps.

I see in Peter's log that he is also experiencing bug 16033, although
that is probably not important at this stage.

nouveau.runpm=0 is a tip from doktor500, with this the LiveDVD/USB gives

The same boot options I use for the installed system.
Right after install with the first boot I selected 'Safe Mode' and added
'blacklist nouveau' to /etc/modprobe.conf.

After this I get no errors and get a beautiful Mageia KDE desktop.

[Bug 1492934] [NEW] Kernel sometimes won't boot to login screen

2015-09-07 Thread Kristoffer Grundström
Public bug reported:

I'm using 3.19.0-26-generic as kernel.

Ubuntu version is:
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

Version of the nouveau driver is:
  Installed: 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1

500 http://ftp.acc.umu.se/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expected the module to be able to work without freezing the entire system.
This issue prevents me from getting to the login session.

I have installed Ubuntu on my brand new laptop which is a Asus N550JK.
It has Hybrid Graphics (Intel 4th Generation + nVidia GeForce GTX 850M so I was
told to nvidia-prime for Optimus.
Sometimes when I boot the kernel it stops before I see the login window and the
computer is completely frozen.

However if I switch to the proprietary driver for nouveau the computer
doesn't lock completely anymore.

[Bug 1492939] [NEW] Enhancement request: please document how to build kernel in PPA

2015-09-07 Thread Sergio Callegari
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In the process of working around an issue that has appeared in the linux
kernel after the patch series "convert host_busy to atomic_t" (see bug
1451277), I would like to compile kernel deb packages that work around
the issue in a PPA, using patches that appeared on the LKML.

Unfortunately, it is unclear to me how to build a kernel in a PPA.

Simply taking the kernel source package, applying the patch, rebuilding
the source package and uploading to the PPA fails to build in the PPA
(due to ABI checks, I believe).

I have not been able to find any up to date instruction on how to create
a kernel source package with just a trivial patch on top of the current
ubuntu kernel and build it in a PPA.

- Instructions in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/Dev/KernelBuildScripts
do not seem recent and appear to involve much more than what is needed
for my case. Most important, they fail at the invocation of the build-
mkppa command.

- Instructions in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1682345 seem
to work, but they are very unofficial and look like black magic.
Specifically, what are those parameters supposed to do and why are they
needed? Why do these parameter make the built kernel a very different
size than the original one? A minor patch should not make this
difference.

Altogether, can up to date, official instructions for building the
Ubuntu kernel + a patch in a PPA be added somewhere?

Thanks!

Thanks for your report.

Do you really mean https website (which doesn't necessarily require an

http authentication?

Could you please provide an example?

[Bug 1435040] Re: Ubuntu Phone (BQ E4.5) does not connect to car-bluetooth

2015-09-07 Thread Simon Fels
@Nephilim1973: No, we can't "learn" anything here from Android. We have
a completely different bluetooth stack which you can't compare with the
Android one. Config files in /etc/bluetooth/*.conf don't help. Those
problems are at other layers.

> Why the BT handling is so different between Touch and Desktop ?

There are quite a lot differences:

* different BT chip
* different UI handlers
* newer kernel with updated Bluetooth stack

We're currently working quite hard to update the bluetooth stack on
Touch (which dates back to 2012) to a newer, more stable and reliable
one. Can't give any timeline yet but it will happen soon.

What I really need is a log of bluetoothd in debug mode. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingBluetooth for details.

[Bug 1492820] Re: unity greeter does not respect if a screen is in portrait orientation

2015-09-07 Thread Till
I just found more weird behaviour of the greeter: after resuming from
"suspend" with a logged in session, the second screen wallpaper was
rotated correctly, but filled the whole screen an hence appeared
squished.

When I restarted the PC and got to the greeter login screen again, the
second wallpaper was again rotated the wrong way. I started typing my
password and then pressed Escape - suddenly the login prompt was moved
to the second screen (still 90° rotated).

So to summarize:
- Since the wallpaper for additional screens can not be configured properly
(aspect ratio and orientation of screens might be different), it's probably
best, to not display any wallpaper on the additional screens.
- Detection of the main screen on which to show the login prompt is not
"reliable"

I use the NVIDIA driver 355.06 by the way.

[Bug 1492820] Re: unity greeter does not respect if a screen is in portrait orientation

2015-09-07 Thread Till Haldimann
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 15.04
  unity-greeter 15.04.4-0ubuntu1

I have two screens. The main screen is in landscape orientation, the
second screen is in portrait orientation. The unity greeter displays the
wallpaper on the second screen as if the screen was also in landscape
orientation, so it appears 90° rotated.

- I would like to have the wallpaper on the second screen rotated
- correctly or not displayed at all (just a black screen).
+ There seems to be now way to configure the screen arrangement and
+ orientation for the unity greeter. Also screens can have different
+ aspect ratios which makes it difficult to automatically display
+ wallpapers in an aesthetically pleasing manner. It would probably be
+ best to only display the wallpaper and login prompt on the main display
+ and leave all other screens black.

[Bug 1002985]

2015-09-07 Thread Qa-admin-q
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today,
LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open,
confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked
on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has
been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really
appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still
present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of
LibreOffice (5.0.0.5 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of
LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug
behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to
RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of
LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular
meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a
REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3
unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat:

[Bug 1450009] Re: [HP, Dell notebooks] suspends on closed lid, does not recognized external monitors/dock

2015-09-07 Thread Martin Pitt
@Robin: so it does listen to the "Dell WMI hotkeys" input device for you
now. Can you please run this:

  for d in /dev/input/event*; do if ! sudo evtest --query $d EV_SW
SW_DOCK; then echo $d; fi; done

If this outputs anything, then you have a device which reports "dock"
state/events, otherwise this part just doesn't apply to your laptop. E.
g. on my ThinkPad none of the input devices support that, but on the HPs
they do apparently.

The plan is that openvswitch will make use of this library; so an
existing package in main will want to start linking against dpdk.

There is a MIR under bug 1492186 to cover its move to main once we get
it uploaded.

That said, the default ovs binary will not make use of dpdk; we're
planning to provide a dpdk enabled version via alternatives for this

[Bug 1492351] Re: novnc package is missing important launch.sh script, present in the source package

2015-09-07 Thread Simon Bazley
** Description changed:

  Summarising from
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/novnc/+question/271057

utils/launch.sh (present in the novnc source package) is a fairly
essential part of this application. Without it a user really needs to
know how to start up websockify manually, and all the documentation I
found online, simply says start utils/launch.sh

- Simply extracting the file, isn't enough, as it assumes a websockify is
- in the same (utils) folder, so applying this diff, makes it work
- perfectly with the existing novnc package.
+ Simply extracting the file, isn't enough, as it assumes a websockify
+ executable is in the same folder as the script. Applying this diff,
+ changes the call to make the call as long as websockify is on the path,
+ this makes it work perfectly happily along with the existing websockify
+ package (wherein the websockify executable is installed into /usr/bin).

[Bug 1492917] [NEW] white on white background for right click menu

2015-09-07 Thread aveem ashfaq
Public bug reported:

*I suppose it is a bug with the oxygen theme and libreoffice
application* . when i right click in libreoffice writer anywhere and the
right click menu comes up, i try to use the arrow keys for navigation
within the menu. but the item is not highlighted. in the menus, the
highlighting bit is done with white instead of the usual blue. so there
is a white highlight on the white right click menu.

[Bug 1490895] Re: Skylake/Broadwell/Haswell: No HDMI audio jack detection in D3

2015-09-07 Thread Jerry Kao
I tried the fail SKL system with KH2 image. The issue Ray discovered can
be reproduced without diwic's patches. So it seems not a regression
issue for this fix.

Before install patches, no matter HDMI plug or non-plug, the error in
comment#12 could happen.
With HDMI plugging: failure rate 2/2
Without HDMI plugging: failure rate 2/3

[Bug 1492906] [NEW] Fails to complete directory paths containing single quotes

2015-09-07 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

Tab completion of directory paths containing single quotes is broken
like so:

$ mkdir -p "a'b/c"
$ cd a\'b/ # pressing tab won't complete the 'c' dir

as opposed to:

$ mkdir -p "de/f"
$ cd de/ # pressing tab here completes the 'f' dir just fine, to 'de/f/'

I initially thought this was Bug #1485777, but the reason I'm not so
sure anymore is that for me, a manually appended \' does not disappear
(unlike for the reporter of #1485777). This does however also seem like
a regression back to the issue of Bug #590829.

[Bug 1492778] Re: kde crashes when turning powering on display port monitor

2015-09-07 Thread Nikolay Mihaylov
Since the bug was filed for 15.04, whereas I reported it for 15.10, I
have to add that it was present for me on 15.04 as well. Only I cannot
confirm whether switching to DVI helps.

Also, concerning the fact that I don't get log in screen - it seems to
be the same for the original reporter. He manually kills user processes
from a virtual console to get back a login screen.

And, if that's important, my display is Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP.

** Description changed:

  ui-toolkit version 1.2.1485+15.04.20150429-0ubuntu1

If there is a text field at the bottom of a page, directly above the
keyboard you cannot drag the cursor handle to re-position because it's
cut off by the keyboard window. Sometimes you can can drag it but it's
  very difficult as it's truncated.

The fix should be to place the cursor handles above the text field, not
below, if there is not space to draw the handle below.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) reboot
  2) open messaging-app
  3) drag up to create a new message
  4) start typing in the send field at bottom
  5) try to drag the handles to reposition the caret

  Expected results:
  handle easy to drag

[Bug 1269883] Re: 0b95:1790 [Asus N55SF] Bad performance of Asix Ethernet-to-USB device on USB3 port

2015-09-07 Thread gouri
Thanks William for your comment.

Reading activity following your links, there seems to be differences:

* launchpad (here): problem starts immediately, not on receiving heavy traffic.
Adapter unusable in practice on USB3 (not even for moderate activity), always
ok on USB2. Also, machine feels a little sluggish but no crash, kernel panic or
hang observed.
* github: reports dmesg but not much detail about what's wrong
* bugzilla: "transferring a huge number of files or pretty heavy files caused
kernel panic: either I had a stacktrace displayed or the computer became
completely unresponsive.", USB3, sometimes USB2.

Might be a different bug?

[Bug 251632] Re: DHCP client should not create temporary files in /etc

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
> The bug is not actually fixed, it is only worked around by installing
the "resolvconf" package by default.

Debian consider this bug fixed, and this issue originates from Debian.
So there is no action to take in Ubuntu unless someone wants to take it
up in Debian by re-opening the bug there or filing a new bug there as
appropriate.

I'm going to mark this Fix Released in dhcp3 (Ubuntu) to represent that
we consider it resolved by installing resolvconf, so as not to mislead
others into thinking that there is outstanding work to be done in Ubuntu
here. If you want to get this addressed further, then please take action
to have this addressed in Debian and then we can mirror their bug status
for Ubuntu instead. Otherwise, we'll follow Debian and consider this bug
fixed.

[Bug 1338732] Re: Timed out waiting for a reply via rabbit

2015-09-07 Thread Shintaro Mizuno
Hi Chris J Arges,

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/oslo.messaging/1.4.1-0ubuntu1.1
doesn't seem to have https://review.openstack.org/109373
"Declare-DirectPublisher-exchanges-with-passive-True.patch" included in the
patch list.
It is included in 1.3.0-0ubuntu1.1 package.

[Bug 1490727] Re: "Invalid IPC credentials" after corosync, pacemaker service restarts

2015-09-07 Thread Robie Basak
Please could you complete the bug report from the perspective of the
pacemaker task? I don't think there's enough here to go on for example
in a way that upstream or the Debian maintainer would understand.

** Changed in: pacemaker (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Incomplete
