2015-10-18 Thread Doug Smythies
Thanks for your bug report, however this is not a bug with Ubuntu docs
and therefore will be set to "invalid". Please figure out which package
it should be reported against, change "Affects" to that package, then
set "Status" back to "New".

** Description changed:

  Experienced a system freeze. It was not possible to use the keyboard or
  the touchpad, it was possible to move the cursor using an USB mouse
  attached, but clicking had no effect. The strange thing is that at the
  time of the freeze /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log displayed long
  strings of NUL bytes (^@).

working on fixing a configuration problem I inherited and it seems that
this bug is related to the same problem. I'm going to link it as such.
If you feel that this is incorrect, please let me know. Thanks!

[Bug 1506736] Re: Server crashes after undocking from docking station

2015-10-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kai Mast, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t440s an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.35). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1506166] Re: Bracketed paste should be per-terminal [PATCH]

2015-10-18 Thread Yury V. Zaytsev
Hi Egmont,

In this case I was simply scratching my personal itch: this bug is
making mc unusable for me at work, where I'm running Ubuntu Trusty. I
haven't run in any issues quite as bad as this one.

Having this said, if 1) Iain will be willing to make another upload and
2) you will be willing to post vetted patches, I can try to come up with
a tested debdiff...

[Bug 1505946] Re: text2wave crashes with "undefined symbol: _Z19wave_io_save_headerP8_IO_FILEiiiRK10EST_StringiS3_"

2015-10-18 Thread Sergio Oller
Hi,

I see in the bug report:

I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, and
$ festival -v
festival: Festival Speech Synthesis System: 2.1:release November 2010
$ dpkg -l festival
ii festival 1:2.1~release-8 amd64 General multi-lingual speech synthesis system

According to
http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite=trusty=names=festival
I see that on trusty there is 1:2.1~release-6ubuntu1: amd64, however you
report a higher festival package version (the festival version from
debian jessie).

Either you downgrade festival to the released trusty version
(recommended if you are under ubuntu trusty) or you upgrade
libestools2.1 to the version released on jessie too.

Feel free to ask if you have questions or doubts

[Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

2015-10-18 Thread Emil Donca
Lenovo B50-70 fits the description.

$ arecord -l
 List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices
card 1: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC233 Analog [ALC233 Analog]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I'm on Arch Linux and have tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=inv-dmic"
in either modprobe.conf or snd-hda-intel.conf but doesn't fix the problem - I
think I'm almost there but don't fully understand what to set.

Muting one of the channels while boosting the other works every timw,
just like in the description. Problem is, some apps (such as Facebook
messenger video call) adjust the volumes on their own and they link left
with right.

How to proceed and what info do you need, thanks!

[Bug 1492850] Re: Dell pro venue 11 - No wireless connections after sleep

2015-10-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
stef.baly, to advise, hibernate, or hybrid suspend is treated as a
different problem, which would necessitate a separate report.

So, to recap the results regarding the scope of this report (suspend
only), with systemd, it works with pm-suspend. However, if you initiate
the suspend via the button, it doesn't?

Also, if you switch to upstart, it works either via the GUI, or pm-
suspend, correct?

[Bug 1111884]

2015-10-18 Thread S-bugzilla
What's the status of this bug. The last activity is from a year ago on
November 2014. I think I'm affected by this bug.

I filed this bug report at Ubuntu:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1378881

Which was marked as a duplicate of this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/884

My desktop is unusable. I know your all busy with life, but a little
reassurance that this is going to get fixed would be appreciated.

Thanks, Nate.

P.S. And if I can help out anyway I will. I used to build from source
years ago before Git came around, but I could learn fast on how to apply
patches from source if necessary if you teach me.

[Bug 1506729] Re: USB-Mouse not working

2015-10-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Kathi, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and
please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 987060] Re: massive memory leak in unity-panel-service and hud-service when invoking the hud on Firefox profiles with large amounts of bookmarks LTS 12.04 14.04

2015-10-18 Thread Dave Barker
The problem for me seemed to have been caused by having a single very
large PDF on my Desktop. Even after stopping hud-service from executing
I noticed that nautilus was consistently using 15% of one CPU core, but
as soon as I moved that PDF somewhere else the problem went away. I've
now allowed hud-service to run again, rebooted, and things appear to be
working nicely again.

Observations:

 - Why is generating the preview icon for a large PDF so costly? Surely only
the first page should be read and used for that purpose?
 - Surely these preview icons should be cached?
 - I think even if generating the preview icon is expected to be costly, there
is a bug here as there is definitely a memory leak + the CPU usage stayed
consistently high for hours. Surely the process should finish and then the CPU
usage should drop away again?

[Bug 1506914] Re: Screen brightness not working using keyboard shortcut fn+F5/F6 not working.

2015-10-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vidvranjek, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/G550JK/HelpDesk_Download/ an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (205). If
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1507369] Re: gnome-language-selector crashed with locale.Error in setlocale(): unsupported locale setting

2015-10-18 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Your locale is broken. Somehow you have set the LANG variable to
"pt_BR:pt:en", which is an invalid value. Given the other locale related
variables, it should reasonably be "pt_BR.UTF-8". Probably the invalid
setting is in /etc/default/locale or ~/.pam_environment.

Do you possibly have an idea how that happened?

Thats better ... (the "-" was wrong in my previous posting )

HOSTNAME="${HOSTNAME//[^A-Za-z0-9_\-]/x}"

i attached a modified hostname.sh wich uses bash.

it can be startet manualy with

sudo  /etc/init.d/hostname.sh start

The command should somehow run at startup ... but does not by default ?

I have read the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend and done
the test in kernel v4.3-rc5.

But I have no luck that there are nothing like "hash matches" in the

[Bug 1507428] [NEW] python-fedora: FTBFS: ImportError (No module named pycompat25.collections)

Dear Maintainer,

The package fails to build. On jenkins, but not for me locally, more
things also fail. This pycompat25 seems like the most obvious initial
problem, however:

[Bug 1466047] Re: Install in UEFI mode installs grub-pc

2015-10-18 Thread CDSRV TechSupport
confirming this 'bug' - the problem is that the installer calls 'grub-
pc' (which is for 32bit 'bios' scheme, and installs it if its missing)
even after selecting the correct options during installation. it should
be calling grub-mkconfig but does not, and the system is left in an un-
bootable state on first boot or anytime after updating the kernel where
update-grub would be called.

system config:
toshiba satellite booting in EFI mode
Samsung EVO SE-SSD
Ubuntu 15 (64bit)
btrfs root volume

here are some commands to work-around the problem, try running this after
updating linux kernel.

---

## procedure to add efiboot on btrfs subvolume with grub

## configurable
chroot=/mnt
bootdisk=/dev/sda
rootpartition=3
efipartition=1

echo "##> updating efi grub"
echo "##> chroot=${chroot}"
echo "##> bootdisk=${bootdisk}"
echo "##> rootpartition=${bootdisk}/${rootpartition}"
echo "##> efipartition=${bootdisk}/${efipartition}"

##
## ROOT : btrfs
mount -o subvol=@ ${bootdisk}/${rootpartition} ${chroot}
## add some logic here to use ext4

## EFI : ext2
mount ${bootdisk}/${efipartition} ${chroot}/boot/efi

apt-get install efibootmgr

efibootmgr -c -d ${bootdisk} -p 1 -w -L ubuntu

apt-get install grub-efi grub-efi-amd64

grub-install --root-directory=${chroot} --boot-directory=${chroot}/boot
--bootloader-id=ubuntu  --target=x86_64-efi --efi-
directory=${chroot}/boot/efi --recheck  --debug ${bootdisk}

##
echo "##> entering chroot"
chroot $chroot

for i in dev dev/pts sys proc run; do sudo mount --bind /$i
${chroot}/$i; done

mkdir /boot/efi/EFI/GRUB
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/GRUB/grub.cfg

##
echo "##> exit this shell to exit the chroot"

#
exit

---

 these commands were assembled from numerous sources and the code has
not been tested extensively, since the system affected is actually
working now.
