[Bug 1516215] Re: kernel 4.x has issues with lite-on sata controller in dell xps 13 (2015)
Carolin Latze, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Where X, and Y are two numbers corresponding to the kernel version, and Z is one release candidate number if applicable. If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of kernel-bug-exists-upstream. Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1516397] [NEW] zram-config 01 and 0.5 load module zram in live even when there is more than 512MB
Public bug reported: Lubuntu makes use of zram-config in the Live desktop, which brought me to notice zram is loaded even if the machine has more than 512MB. There is a hook in the /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hoos directory, a compcache script, in which some lines say that zram must not be loaded if a computer has more than 512MB ram. This part is ignored by the system, as I could notice. Here is my experience about that : * zram-config is a good thing to have for machines up to *2GB* RAM; * in a machine having 3GB RAM and above, the desktop freezes and there is nothing I can do about it excepte reboot; My recent experience was an attempt to install in a laptop T60 32bits proc with 3 GB RAM, the partition was prepared before, and the machine had since been shutdown and rebooted later, so I was starting fresh (no extra processes than the ones at the start of the live), and after a few windows when I was at the "choose your keyboard" stage, the gui just froze. I have noticed many times since several editions that using zram-config in computers having more than 2GB RAM was likely to get the desktop to freeze : sometimes the GPU was nVidia, sometimes Intel, so it seems the GPU does not make a difference, but the amount of RAM does make a difference. Here are two sreenshots of the Lubuntu machines running in Virtualbox with 1536MB RAM. The first one is Wily 15.10 i386 with zram-config 0.1, the second screenshot is Lubuntu Trusty 14.04.3 x86_64 in the same Virtualbox, 1536MB RAM. [Bug 1516399] [NEW] (wish request) zram-config's casper compcache script should allow loading zram when RAM up to 2 GB
Public bug reported: the zram module of the kernel when loaded seems to me to be behaving well in computers having up to 2 GB RAM, and even to be very desirable to have, as some programs started together can reveal to be quite greedy, depending on the other components of the computers (cpu, FSB, GPU…). For exemple, recently a friend of mine complained that there was lag in Libreoffice while typing, when Firefox was also running. In the Ubuntu editions some need more resources than others, and while Ubuntu Unity is said to need (? 512MB minimum), I have seen Ubuntu Unity in a machine which didn't have more than 2 GB RAM and it was as much a pain to use as a quite fragmented Windows : this is where adding 2 GB to make it 4 fixed the problem. All experiences added bring me to request kindly that the part of the compcache hook zram limit in initramfs-tools be raised to 2 GB. This would be very nice, and useful. I enclose a patch. [Bug 1516370] Re: Vendor backlight on Lenovo Z580 having random hotkeys issues
BTW: The "bold guess in the title", won't make sense now, as the title was originally saying that I thought a register was being written incorrectly, until I realised that the backlight does work correctly and it seems to be hotkeys related. [Bug 1516320] Re: Cannot change backlight on my laptop
adam, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please undo your WORKAROUND and test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133 Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page, https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks. [This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: ppa ** Tags added: xorg-edgers-ppa ** Changed in: ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516401 Title: upgrade 14.04 to 15.04 problem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1516401/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1516225] Re: Swapon does not respect fstab negative priorities order
You are very quick to dismiss issues: following your comment, I changed /etc/fstab swap priorities: # swap was on /dev/sda6 during installation UUID=4870beef-bb2c-40c1-91da-f1444f90c51b none swapsw,nofail,pri=2 0 0 # swap on SSD Samsung UUID=fa2b8ce4-6ce7-4fb2-ac12-475264bed20f none swapsw,nofail,pri=1 0 0 However, the swap order is still incorrect: swapon --summary FilenameTypeSize Used Priority /dev/sdc2 partition 503316440 1 /dev/sda6 partition 503316440 -1 To make sure that the right UUIDs are declared: sudo blkid /dev/sda6: LABEL="MSI-GE60-Swap" UUID="4870beef-bb2c-40c1-91da-f1444f90c51b" TYPE="swap" PARTLABEL="Slow-Ubuntu-Swap" PARTUUID="a40b2587-deac-411f-8eee-6da7af30da2a" /dev/sdc2: LABEL="SAMSUNG-Swap" UUID="fa2b8ce4-6ce7-4fb2-ac12-475264bed20f" TYPE="swap" PARTLABEL="Fast-Ubuntu-Swap" PARTUUID="1e289f8b-2281-4ec9-bd01-1b66fc79b359" The issue is still there. ** Summary changed: - Swapon does not respect fstab negative priorities order + Swapon does not respect fstab priorities order -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1516225 Title: Swapon does not respect fstab priorities order To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/1516225/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
