[Bug 1090759] Re: Sync goocanvas 1.0 from gnome repo

2015-11-15 Thread Ross Gammon
I am the new maintainer for goocanvas and goocanvas-2.0 in Debian. It
should be safe to sync goocanvas from Debian. Goocanvas-2.0 has it's own
source package, and the legacy goocanvas (this one) has now been updated
from 0.15 in Debian to 1.0 and uses autoreconf to help building on
different architectures. All Ubuntu changes at 0.15 have been
incorporated in Debian and upstream.

Source package name: goocanvas
Source package version number to sync: 1.0.0-1
Where to sync from: Debian sid main

The previous Ubuntu changelog:
goocanvas (0.15-1.1ubuntu1) trusty; urgency=medium

  * Link libgoocanvas with -lm to fix build failure on ppc64el.
  * Build using dh-autoreconf.

 -- Matthias Klose Sun, 22 Dec 2013 16:32:28 +0100

The next Debian changelog which incorporated the NMU that fixed the ppc64el
linking issue and switched to dh-autoreconf:
 goocanvas (0.15-2) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * New maintainer (Closes: #766612)
   * Switch from using dpatch to quilt (Closes: #670694)
   * Unapply patches from source
   * Restructure control file with cme
   * Set myself as the maintainer
   * Set Vcs URLs to collab-maint
   * Limit the legacy watchfile to < 1.9x releases
   * Update goocanvas homepage URL
   * Bump standards version, no changes required
   * Update copyright file to copyright-format 1.0
   * Add a gbp.conf file
   * Add upstream metadata
   * Move to debhelper compat level 9
   * build with dh-autoreconf to avoid FTBS on ppc64el
Thanks to Brahadambal Srinivasan & Berto (Closes: 756763)
   * Acknowledge previous NMU
   * Remove trailing whitespace in d/control
   * Drop README.source file as dpatch is no longer used
   * Switch from cdbs to debhelper
   * Update 11_link.patch to only patch Makefile.am
   * Drop relibtoolize.patch as it interfers with autoreconf
   * Make Multi-Arch ready by installing to multi-arch paths
Thanks to Berto for the above 6 suggestions
   * Add source/options file to allow package to build twice

 -- Ross Gammon Tue, 01 Sep 2015 22:11:40 +0200

The next changelog in Debian which updated to the final gtk2 version of
goocanvas:
goocanvas (1.0.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release (LP: #1090759)
  * Drop 11_link.patch as incorporated upstream
  * Delete patches directory as all patches have been dropped

 -- Ross Gammon Sun, 04 Oct 2015 08:19:46 +0200

2015-11-15 Thread Dandromb
I have this same problem.

I actually can't boot using the systemd option, so I boot into the
upstart option. (Not sure if that makes a difference.

I get errors on trying to join a wifi network, and errors on trying to
mount media.

The dep8 tests i added in debian only discerns between debian and
ubuntu, and uses httpredir.d.o for debian and archive.u.c for ubuntu.

The test that use to be in ubuntu had this to choose the mirror:
grep -v "[ ]*#" /etc/apt/sources.list|grep http|head -1|awk '{print $2}'

which I don't really like, tbh. my personal /etc/apt/sources.list is
empty, just to say...

do you have suggestions on what to do without hardcoding arch names?

Thanks Steve for pointing out /proc/cpu/alignment! Yesterday I tried to
reproduce this on an armhf box without success, but with "echo 4 >
/proc/cpu/alignment" this reproduces perfectly well. I'll forward your

[Bug 1512811] Re: 15.10 32 bit download gives error when run from usb

2015-11-15 Thread Ilan Tal
Finally, finally, some progress. The startup disk creator fails for 32 but
15.10 but dd works!
I can finally produce a usb stick which works.

If you can confirm the problem on your machine then we can assign the
problem to startup disk creator. From my point of view dd gives me a
solution I can live with.

Is there a way we can compare the 2 sticks, to see exactly which byte is
wrong?

[Bug 1516358] [NEW] Can't set language to Dutch (Belgium)

2015-11-15 Thread Peter De Maeyer
Public bug reported:

I want to set my language to "Dutch (Belgium)" but that just won't work. When I
go through the motions of the settings menu (All Settings -> Region & Language

never applied.
- I could set the locale to "Belgium"
- I could set the keyboard to "Belgian" (which is an

[Bug 1516215] Re: kernel 4.x has issues with lite-on sata controller in dell xps 13 (2015)

2015-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Carolin Latze, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very
top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and
please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions are available
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are two numbers corresponding to the kernel version, and
Z is one release candidate number if applicable.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Once testing of the latest upstream kernel is complete, please mark this
report's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1516396] [NEW] libvte-2.90-dev and libvte-2.91-dev shouldn't conflict

2015-11-15 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Public bug reported:

These are two different, API/ABI-incompatible library versions
(installed under different directories, having different SONAME).

I should be able to install both versions at once, and let the build

[Bug 1451728]

One possible solution is adding an env variable and patching the install

That's the only solution we have right now.

[Bug 1516397] [NEW] zram-config 01 and 0.5 load module zram in live even when there is more than 512MB

2015-11-15 Thread Mélodie
Public bug reported:

Lubuntu makes use of zram-config in the Live desktop, which brought me
to notice zram is loaded even if the machine has more than 512MB.

There is a hook in the /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hoos directory, a
compcache script, in which some lines say that zram must not be loaded
if a computer has more than 512MB ram.

This part is ignored by the system, as I could notice.

Here is my experience about that :
* zram-config is a good thing to have for machines up to *2GB* RAM;
* in a machine having 3GB RAM and above, the desktop freezes and there is
nothing I can do about it excepte reboot;

My recent experience was an attempt to install in a laptop T60 32bits
proc with 3 GB RAM, the partition was prepared before, and the machine
had since been shutdown and rebooted later, so I was starting fresh (no
extra processes than the ones at the start of the live), and after a few
windows when I was at the "choose your keyboard" stage, the gui just
froze.

I have noticed many times since several editions that using zram-config
in computers having more than 2GB RAM was likely to get the desktop to
freeze : sometimes the GPU was nVidia, sometimes Intel, so it seems the
GPU does not make a difference, but the amount of RAM does make a
difference.

Here are two sreenshots of the Lubuntu machines running in Virtualbox
with 1536MB RAM. The first one is Wily 15.10 i386 with zram-config 0.1,
the second screenshot is Lubuntu Trusty 14.04.3 x86_64 in the same
Virtualbox, 1536MB RAM.

The consoles show the result with zram being loaded.

Mélodie

[Bug 1254824] Re: qemu-sh4-static: segmentation fault during debootstrap second stage on amd64 but not i386

2015-11-15 Thread John Paul Adrian Glaubitz
Hi!

I'm the current and only active porter for Debian sh4. I was just
experimenting with qemu and sh4 chroots and just ran into the same
problem and hence stumbled over this bug report. The issue is definitely
reproducible. qemu-sh4-static on i386 works while it segfaults on sh4.

This should be reported to qemu upstream in case this hasn't happened
yet. I will take care of that.

[Bug 1513526] Re: Rapid resume & suspend could damage laptop

2015-11-15 Thread Biji
Still happen, using latest bios:
J5ET49WW (1.20 )
10/22/2015

1. Suspend laptop by closing laptop lid when battery almost low (around 6%)
2. put it in bag
3. laptop will wake up again, when battery <5%
4. because lid is still closed, it will try to suspend again
5. repeat 3 rapidly

I have workaround for this case:
change HandleLidSwitch=poweroff in /etc/systemd/logind.conf
Hope this can save some laptops :)

[Bug 1516370] Re: Vendor backlight on Lenovo Z580 having random hotkeys issues

2015-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Neale Upstone, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu

[Bug 1516384] Re: ath10k kernel crash

2015-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ben Mullen, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 1492441] Re: Cannot connect to 1byone bluetooth keyboard (after successfully pairing)

2015-11-15 Thread David Laštovička
As a workaround I managed to pair successfully following the instruction in the
"Pairing process" section at
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bluetooth_keyboard
i.e.
sudo bluetoothctl -a
power on
agent KeyboardOnly
default-agent
pairable on
#enter pairing mode on the keyboard
scan on
pair MAC_OF_THE_KEABOARD_FROM_PREVIOUS_STEP
#I think now I had to enter the displayed pin on the bluetooth keyboard and
press enter
trust MAC...
connect MAC...
quit
The keyboard stays connected even after the system restart.

[Bug 1516399] [NEW] (wish request) zram-config's casper compcache script should allow loading zram when RAM up to 2 GB

2015-11-15 Thread Mélodie
Public bug reported:

the zram module of the kernel when loaded seems to me to be behaving
well in computers having up to 2 GB RAM, and even to be very desirable
to have, as some programs started together can reveal to be quite
greedy, depending on the other components of the computers (cpu, FSB,
GPU…).

For exemple, recently a friend of mine complained that there was lag in
Libreoffice while typing, when Firefox was also running. In the Ubuntu
editions some need more resources than others, and while Ubuntu Unity is
said to need (? 512MB minimum), I have seen Ubuntu Unity in a machine
which didn't have more than 2 GB RAM and it was as much a pain to use as
a quite fragmented Windows : this is where adding 2 GB to make it 4
fixed the problem.

All experiences added bring me to request kindly that the part of the
compcache hook zram limit in initramfs-tools be raised to 2 GB. This
would be very nice, and useful.

I enclose a patch.

Best regards,
Mélodie

[Bug 1516370] Re: Vendor backlight on Lenovo Z580 having random hotkeys issues

2015-11-15 Thread Neale Upstone
BTW: The "bold guess in the title", won't make sense now, as the title
was originally saying that I thought a register was being written
incorrectly, until I realised that the backlight does work correctly and
it seems to be hotkeys related.

If the implementation is idea_laptop.c then I'm taking a guess that this
will also be a problem with more recent kernels. My first task, I guess
is to boot 15.10 from a stick and see what I get with vendor.

[Bug 1387134] Re: when enabled nvidia graphics card, desktop freezes

2015-11-15 Thread Veereshwari S.K
If you can, try to get hold of a friend's gfx card and install that. If
everything seems ok then it's either a hardware prob with the 560Ti or a
software conflict/corruption/issue (or both). An easy way to find out is
to get your friend to install the 560, alternatively try another full
re-install of the OS - and only the OS.

Recheck all motherboard seTtings & connections very carefully.

adam, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please undo your WORKAROUND and test the latest upstream
kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder)? Install instructions are available at

additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1516347] Re: The PC freezing problem

2015-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Rohan Jadhav, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

To advise, this report is not In Progress as defined in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status .

Also, one wouldn't want to mark themselves as "Assigned to" unless they
are going to release a code fix imminently (next 24-48 hours).

Despite this, please execute the following command, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1516347

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1516401] Re: upgrade 14.04 to 15.04 problem

2015-11-15 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1069133 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069133

Reviewing the files from your upgrade attempt you seem to have enabled
the xorg-edgers-ppa. This will prevent the upgrade as that PPA contains
different versions of packages essential to Ubuntu. The page,
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ppa, contains details on to
how to revert to the official Xorg packages. Thanks.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1516225] Re: Swapon does not respect fstab negative priorities order

2015-11-15 Thread jean-christophe manciot
You are very quick to dismiss issues: following your comment, I changed
/etc/fstab swap priorities:

# swap was on /dev/sda6 during installation
UUID=4870beef-bb2c-40c1-91da-f1444f90c51b none
swapsw,nofail,pri=2 0 0

# swap on SSD Samsung
UUID=fa2b8ce4-6ce7-4fb2-ac12-475264bed20f none
swapsw,nofail,pri=1 0 0

However, the swap order is still incorrect:
swapon --summary
FilenameTypeSize Used
Priority
/dev/sdc2 partition 503316440
1
/dev/sda6 partition 503316440
-1

To make sure that the right UUIDs are declared:
sudo blkid
/dev/sda6: LABEL="MSI-GE60-Swap" UUID="4870beef-bb2c-40c1-91da-f1444f90c51b"
TYPE="swap" PARTLABEL="Slow-Ubuntu-Swap"
PARTUUID="a40b2587-deac-411f-8eee-6da7af30da2a"
/dev/sdc2: LABEL="SAMSUNG-Swap" UUID="fa2b8ce4-6ce7-4fb2-ac12-475264bed20f"
TYPE="swap" PARTLABEL="Fast-Ubuntu-Swap"
PARTUUID="1e289f8b-2281-4ec9-bd01-1b66fc79b359"

The issue is still there.
