[Bug 1520583] Re: flicker err w/out monitor config compatible modes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1520583/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1517102] Re: Gmail webapp account renewal not successful
A few more observations from our debug session. I can reproduce the issue with a backup of my tokens. I had removed .local/share/com...webapp-gmail, and once restarting Gmail the app was starting straight on the login.ubuntu.com page, asking for my user/pass. The issue is that after validating correct user/pass creds, the new URL on login.ubuntu.com is not accepted by the container and re-opened in the browser. On further inspection, the .config/com...webapp-gmail file which should contain the URL for login.ubuntu.com was not containing it. This means that the SAMLRequest was never being seen by the container code. Otherwise, it would have added it in the config file. Others tried to reproduce the problem with my own credentials backup, but in there case the app was opening on the initial Google login screen, not the 2nd login screen managed by Ubuntu. Finally, I tried removing not only .local/share but also my .cache/com ...webapp-gnail directory. This resulted in the app opening on the initial Google login screen, not the ubuntu one. And as a result, when entering my username on this initial screen and validating, the subsequent SAMLRequest was properly detected and I was able to login and proceed to the Gmail inbox screen without issues nor browser re-directs. So this indicates that the webapp cache, ie webapp-container/oxide cache, contains something like the last URL navigated to. And on app startup, the webview is directly and silently redirected there, without any onNavigationRequest signal being fired. This prevents the SAMLRequest pattern from being detected, and leads to the browser re- directs creating the quite messy user experience. At this stage, we are looking for the cause for this cache and .config file to be out of sync. Normally, if ever the cache contains a login.ubuntu.com url, it should be as a result of an initial login, which should have been detected and added to the .config file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517102 Title: Gmail webapp account renewal not successful To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/webapps-core/+bug/1517102/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1520651] [NEW] [ASRock N68-VS3 FX] Networking and ACPI conflicts
Public bug reported: The Linux kernel seems to have an issue with my on-board networking adapter and the ACPI of my computer. On doing some research this seems to be a very old and somewhat common bug that no one has ever done anything about. This bug results in two things: My on-board networking doesn't work, and trying to restart or shutdown the computer freezes the system. With an older 12.04 kernel, 3.2.0-23.36, there were two workarounds. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1003297 And in a more recent version there was still a practical workaround https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1003297 The first mentioned of these still works: 1) Boot into rescue mode, drop to the terminal, run "rmmod forcedeth" then "modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0" then resume a normal boot. This enabled both networking and regular ACPI functions. But is a one-off that needs to be repeated at every start up and several graphics drivers do ot function well until the next normal boot. So that is very much a compromise. The more stable work arounds listed at the references cannot now be applied because the structure of the kernel has changed. I assume that a work around could be produced but my knowledge is insufficient to do it myself. I would dearly and urgently love to find a solution as I have an unusable PC at the moment. [Bug 706011] Re: gpg --key-gen doesn't have enough entropy and rng-tools install/start fails
I am sympathetic with both sides of this (developer and user). Suggestion: Add a guided entropy creation option such that gnupg would start a background thread or process that generates sufficient entropy. The user is warned about time needed variability which depends on hardware and other factors. Periodically, the % accomplished to goal is updated. Would be nice: an ETA (time) update along with the % update. This would enable the package maintainer or other type of end user to start up key generation and go off and eat dinner, go to sleep, whatever. And, the developer stops getting distracting reports due to lack of understanding by users on the nuances of randomness. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/706011 Title: gpg --key-gen doesn't have enough entropy and rng-tools install/start fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnupg/+bug/706011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1518614] Re: Xorg freeze
NoBugs!, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash If you do open this report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. However, I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. [Bug 1520670] [NEW] QScreen::primaryOrientation does not work correctly
Public bug reported: Oxide relies on the combination of QScreen::orientation() and QScreen::primaryOrientation() in order to determine the rotation angle of the device, which is used in Blink and also for correctly rotating the camera preview when the application is rotated. However, the value returned from QScreen::primaryOrientation() also changes when the device is rotated, which I believe is unexpected. Qt calculates this based on the screen geometry, which means this is probably caused by qtubuntu swapping the width / height around when transitioning from portrait to landscape. ** Affects: qtubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520670 Title: QScreen::primaryOrientation does not work correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtubuntu/+bug/1520670/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1511063] Re: Scopes freeze after few times slide on Bq 4.5
Ok, this scope locks the dash up even when not favorited and just opened via Manage Dash. Moreover, it even locks up a commandline scopes-client (for libunity-scopes-cli package): $ scopes-client com.ubuntu.developer.boghison.mixcloud_mixcloudscope "" It looks like we are not as resistant to misbehaving scopes as we should be. The scopes-client re-implements finished() method of SearchListener, but it's not triggered with this scope (this method should eventually receive an error I think). ** Also affects: unity-scopes-api (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1511063 Title: Scopes freeze after few times slide on Bq 4.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scopes-api/+bug/1511063/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1520040] Re: [drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Device: notebook Dell Inspiron 5548 Operating system: 64-bit XUbuntu Linux 14.04 LTS Processor: Intel Core i7-5500U Kernel: 3.19.0-33-generic #38~14.04.1-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 Video: dual chip. These are the two display controllers: - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260] display controller 3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "fglrx"); and - Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated Graphics VGA compatible controller 3300Hz (requires kernel module / device driver "i915"). Problem: my notebook's operating system is switching to runlevel 0 (power off) randomly, subtly and thus unexpectedly. And if I 'cat /var/log/kern.log |grep -i i915' I get a lot of "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!" messages. I'm under the impression that either the kernel or the kernel module "i915_bpo" is buggy. My notebook's problem can't be related to overheating, because it's a brand-new notebook (less than 1 month old) and I've already monitored its temperature parameters: nothing abnormal is happening. Also, I'm using a cooling laptop base/pad. Other kernels I've tested, with which the same issue happens: - 3.19.0-18-generic (kernel module: i915_bpo) - 3.19.0-23-generic (kernel module: i915_bpo) - 3.19.0-28-generic (kernel module: i915_bpo) - 4.2.0-18-generic (kernel module: i915) Temporary workaround: I downgraded to kernel "3.13.0-36-generic", which isn't buggy with its "i915_bdw.ko" (version 3.0) kernel object (module). [Bug 1518764] Re: Music app high power consumption
Music app is part of the lifecycle exemptions list. When it is launched, QtMir obtains a wakelock for it to stop the system deep-suspending. This means that while Music app is open, your system cannot deep suspend, which is mainly a low-power CPU state. Other apps however will still be frozen if they are not in front. Just Music app will never be frozen. Since system not deep-suspended, it is possible for **any other process** on your phone to use as much CPU as it wants. So if any of the daemons (and the music app) has a bug, it might end up consuming all your battery while your display is off. Just testing it on Bq with today's rc-proposed image (190): 1. launched Music app. Wakelock held by shell for it ("power-cli list" prints an "active" lock held) - CPU usage zero (just watching "top"). Looks reasonable. 2. Blank the screen. Wakelock still held. CPU usage zero. Looks ok. 3. lit screen, playing a song. Wakelock held. CPU usage about 20% 4. blank screen while song playing. CPU usage stays around 20%. This state could be improved as unity8.log is reporting frames being dropped: this means Music app is drawing, even though display is off - pointless. Fixing bug 1475678 should resolve this. The remaining CPU is being used by media-hub and pulseaudio to play the audio. 5. pausing the song, and letting the display blank, I see almost zero CPU usage. Wakelock always held though. But that's as good as we can do. With some playing around, I've not managed to get Music app to mis-behave: if no music is playing, music-app using no CPU really. So I suspect another process on the phone is misbehaving. Could someone here who suffers from this issue please "adb shell" into their phone and run "top" and look at what processes are using CPU while your display is off. [Bug 1520627] [NEW] New personality for more accurate armv7l emulation on arm64
Public bug reported: We're working on bringing up new arm64 builder infrastructure in Launchpad scalingstack to replace the current bare-metal builders, and the current plan is that they should be able to cover armhf as well. Ideally, we would be able to do this using the same guest images: scalingstack builders are reset at the end of the previous build so that latency for new builds is lower when the build farm isn't at 100% use, which means that we don't in general know which architecture a given builder is going to need to build next, so we can get better density out of our hardware by having the same guest images be able to handle more than one architecture. Things mostly work just by chrooting into an armhf chroot under linux32. However, this causes "uname -m" to print "armv8l", while our current value on our armhf builders is "armv7l". I'd initially thought that this would be tolerable, but my understanding from Adam Conrad is that the breakage from poorly-written build scripts that misdetect the architecture as a result is quite widespread. So, we would like to have a personality value available that would cause "uname -m" to print "armv7l". This doesn't look completely trivial, because newuname() basically just has compat and non-compat mode for architectures based on whether the personality is PER_LINUX32 or not, and doesn't currently seem to have extension points beyond that. I'm hoping this is fixable. If not, we need to know with as much lead time as possible so that we can bring up separate armhf guests, since that's going to be a fair amount of work for us to arrange. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-stop-nagging -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1520627 Title: New personality for more accurate armv7l emulation on arm64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1520627/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you. I've just run the apport-collect app as instructed. Note: until Nov 27 02:32:01 AM UTC-2 (my local time, equivalent to 04:32:01 AM UTC) I was running kernel 3.19.0-33-generic as my default O.S. kernel, but then my notebook subtly powered off once more, thus causing me to decide to boot with kernel 3.13.0-36-generic by default. However, before running 'apport-collect 1520040' I booted the machine with kernel 3.19.0-33-generic again. [Bug 1499827] Re: [ipv6] Network manager incorrectly lowers MTU when IPv6 is enabled
Uploaded network-manager 1.0.4-0ubuntu5.2 to wily-proposed for review and approval by the SRU team. ** Description changed: + [Impact] + Users with IPv6-supporting networks will see the messages below in the bug description appear repeatedly as NM mistakes a 0 value for MTU in internal NM code with 0-size packets instead of meaning "use default MTU". + + [Test case] + - Run network-manager on a network supporting IPv6. + - Check /var/log/syslog for messages from NetworkManager. + + [Regression Potential] + This changes behavior for handling the MTU value for IPv6, which should be no higher than the device MTU. I can't confirm about espeak, or about skype as in bug #361615, but i affected by this bug in my own apps using Portaudio lib.
