2015-12-05 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
Public bug reported:

Running `gdbserver localhost:2345 /bin/echo abc` causes `gdbserver` to
block at `Listening on port 2345` and isn't interruptible with Ctrl+C,

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

I'm new to Ubuntu I got this error [ERROR] Async loop died!
Address already in use(0x62) when i tried to connect port 6703 and 6702 .. by
searching i found that problem due to indeed a port conflict. It turns out
ephemeral port range was messed up on the machines
I tried to change number of range in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_local_port_range
to 49152 65535 but didn't work
I’m on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS via vmware if that is important to know ..
how can I extend range to 64 k or anyone have another idea about this ?

[Bug 1523194] [NEW] Can't install /home into separate LUKS encrypted volume

2015-12-05 Thread Gizmo Chicken
Public bug reported:

For various reasons, I would prefer not to use the default full disk
encryption method (which relies on LVM) when installing Ubuntu. Rather,
I would prefer to install directly into multiple LUKS-encrypted volumes.

Using the “something else” option presented during installation of 15.10
and 16.04 (onto a non-UEFI system with a gpt formatted drive), I have
been able to create a LUKS-encrypted volume on sda2, and I have been
able to install boot (/boot) into non-encrypted sda1, and root (/) into
LUKS-encrypted sda2. All is good in that simple situation. (To get
this to work, I skip creating a swap partition, and then create a swap
file in sda2 after installation has completed.)

However, when using the “something else” option presented during
installation of 15.10 and 16.04, after creating LUKS-encrypted volumes
on sda2 and sda3, I have not been able to install boot (/boot) into non-
encrypted sda1, root (/) into LUKS-encrypted sda2, and home (/home) into
into LUKS-encrypted sda3. Rather, although I am able to create the
LUKS-encrypted volumes, the installer hangs during installation when the
following is displayed:

“Creating ext4 system for /home in partition #1 of Encrypted volume
(sda3_crypt)...”

For what its worth, I am able to accomplish the above installation
(/home on LUKS-encrypted sda3) using the net-installer for 15.10. Also,
I was able to accomplish the above installation (/home on LUKS-encrypted
sda3) using the graphical installer for 15.04. So it seems that some
sort of regression has crept into the graphical installer for 15.10 and
16.04.

as the driver create surround playback volume for the line out jack

it seem that the driver create incorrect headphone jack kctl

the alternative workaround is to change two output jacks to line out
instead of headphone by hdajackretask

[Bug 1029209] Re: tidy doesn't support html5 syntax

2015-12-05 Thread Geoff R. McLane
As explained in that issue, and in an Ubuntu question
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tidy/+question/276623
the https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5 is not a fork. It is canonical
for HTML Tidy as of 2015-January-15...

first release: https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5/releases/tag/5.0.0
last release: https://github.com/htacg/tidy-html5/releases/tag/5.1.25

There is no conflicting version numbers. This Samantic type versioning
was adopted in the first release, and will continue. And the package name
will remain tidy...

I am trying to get in touch with Jason Thomas to try to do something
about debian and ubuntu outdated tidy packages. Hopefully soon...

2015-12-05 Thread xormar
I think the correct statement to issue in this case would be that a part
("revision") of the PDF has been signed and to show the validation
result for that revision, ideally giving the user a chance to view only
the signed part.

This might even be indispensable when there are multiple signatures
applied to the document.

I am not sure if it is good to apply the robustness principle on
security functions. In those cases it might be better to be defensive
and reject signatures not following the recommendation.

In this case if the ByteRange does not cover the whole document there
could be parts of the document that can be modified without invalidating
the signature. Would it then be good to tell the user that the signature
has been validated and the document is not modified even though in fact
there are parts of the document for which we don't know?

[Bug 1518420] Re: There is no way to unset action 'shortcut' property

2015-12-05 Thread Zsombor Egri
** Description changed:

Since all the actions are enabled and active by default (causing the
Ambiguous bug#1514856) I implement a workaround in my app to disable
action shortcuts if the page is not active. Something like:

  shortcut: page.active ? "Esc" : ""

The problem is, that I am receiving serveral error messages on
  terminal while running the app:

  "QML Action: Invalid shortcut:"
+
+ -
+ Note: the shortcut (and any property that can be reset) should be
cleared/reset using undefined. So the above binding should look like:
+ shortcut: page.active ? "Esc" : undefined
+
+ Note2: actions added to any ActionItem derived type will automatically
+ activate/deactivate depending on the page or dialog activation. This
+ means that those Actions which are in an inactive Page will not be
+ active, so there will be no need for the above binding.

[Bug 1523097] [NEW] Avogadro Conformer Search

2015-12-05 Thread Darren Rhodes
Public bug reported:

I wrote the following note to the Avogadro support list,

"The molecular mechanics section as seen here,
http://avogadro.cc/wiki/Extensions_Menu#Molecular_Mechanics and hence
conformer search isn't available. No screenshot is available since the
drop down extension menu disappears when I press print screen.

I am running v1.1.1 on, Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS I downloaded the software
from the ubuntu software centre. My version installed at work is on a
windows pc - this has the facility."

They replied with the following,

"Unfortunately, this sounds like an Ubuntu packaging issue. There’s an
extension for molecular mechanics, and if not present, those features
won’t show up in the menu.

I’d suggest filing a bug with the package maintainers.

Sorry I can’t be of more help - if you’re willing to compile, I’m
confident the menu will re-appear."

Can you sort out the packaging issue, please?

[Bug 1523100] [NEW] Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255]

2015-12-05 Thread Dennis Marttinen
Public bug reported:

I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Windows 10 on a 64bit Acer
Aspire VN7-792G and noticed, that the internal microphone doesn't work.
The computer has been released a couple of months ago and it's Intel
Skylake -based with a Sunrise Point -based motherboard.

INFO: The problem exists in Ubuntu 15.10 too, only microphone jack
detected. Currently using Ubuntu 16.04 for proper hardware support.

Alsa reports the audio device to be:

Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chip: Intel Skylake HDMI

The speakers are working fine, but both alsamixer and pavucontrol
(Pulseaudio Volume Control) raport the unplugged external microphone
connector as the only sound input.

I have tried many of the alsa model configurations (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) without success, alsa finds only the microphone
jack, which works fine when I plug an external microphone in it.

Here's some info:

lspci | grep -I audio:

00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H
HD Audio (rev 31)

cat /proc/asound/cards:

0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0x8432 irq 128

And a clip from dmesg | grep snd:

[3.019164] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: bound :00:02.0 (ops
i915_audio_component_bind_ops [i915])
[3.047505] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: autoconfig for ALC255:
line_outs=1 (0x14/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) type:speaker
[3.047508] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:speaker_outs=0
(0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
[3.047510] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:hp_outs=1

[3.047511] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:mono: mono_out=0x0
[3.047512] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:dig-out=0x1e/0x0
[3.047512] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:inputs:
[3.047514] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x1a

One problem is that I can't find any model options (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) or other parameters for the card's model
(ALC255), I suppose this issue is relatively new.

[Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported

2015-12-05 Thread dan
Hey Dennis,

/etc/resolv.conf already contained 127.0.1.1 as a name server.
My default gateway is 192.168.0.1 but I think changes would be overridden by a
reboot. (so I have not tried it yet)

When this connection issue occurs, I cannot even access the default
gateway(my router) via its IP (the connection is always pending). Only
after reconnecting to the network it works instantly.

/etc/network/interfaces does not contain any unnecessary parameters.

regards,
Daniel

[Bug 1523103] [NEW] cannot upgrade from Xubuntu 14.04 to 15.04

2015-12-05 Thread YS1
Public bug reported:

do-release-upgrade asked me to file this bug.

I am under 14.04 LTS and want to upgrade to a non-LTS version. It seems
that the upgrade manager tries to upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04 because
14.10 is EOL, but then complains because 15.04 is not the next version
after 14.04.

If I run sudo DEBUG_UPDATE_MANAGER=1 /usr/bin/do-release-upgrade -d, it
tries to download thing about utopic (14.10) but fails due to 404
errors.

[Bug 1033598] Re: the CAPTCHA challenge in Ubuntu Software Center is much too difficult to solve for a real human being

2015-12-05 Thread Paul Ngigwa
I think this signup trick is made so that people can't login or create
any account because it is real confusing. You are given a try and
nothing you can achieve as it says the captcha doesnt match. I think
initiative should be taken so that everything can be alright. This is a
serious issue because everyone is complaining about it.

[Bug 740506]

I am not sure if it is good to apply the robustness principle on
security functions. In those cases it might be better to be defensive
and reject signatures not following the recommendation.

In this case if the ByteRange does not cover the whole document there
could be parts of the document that can be modified without invalidating
the signature. Would it then be good to tell the user that the signature
has been validated and the document is not modified even though in fact
there are parts of the document for which we don't know?

[Bug 1464917] Re: reboot hangs at 'Reached target Shutdown'

2015-12-05 Thread Gregory Kramida
Martin Pitt, I've tried all the recipes, here is what booting with
"debug" shows after shutdown (attached image).

Unfortunately, for me, SysRq doesn't work, the and the keyboard is
completely unresponsive. Is there any way to dig out what happened from
system logs post-factum, after next login?

I have the following in syslog:
"Dec 5 09:31:21 deepblue systemd[1811]: shutdown.target: Fixing conflicting
jobs shutdown.target/stop,shutdown.target/start by deleting job
shutdown.target/stop"
Could that be the issue?

I'll attach the part of the syslog that I think may be relevant to the
next message.

[Bug 1523094] [NEW] Enhancement: Tone when job is done

2015-12-05 Thread Robin
Public bug reported:

It would be nice if my computer would make noise to indicate when a job
is done if that job is over a set period of time. Allowing the user to
set the time elapsed to indicate if this would be worth having the
tone/alert, making sure it doesn't go off every minute when I am doing
something small. However, large batch jobs that I walk away from would
be nice if I could hear when they and/are finished or held up by
something that needs my attention.

[Bug 1520343] Re: Qualcomm Atheros wireless card [168c:003e] (rev 32) not supported

2015-12-05 Thread dan
Hey Dennis,

No this is the only one. Prior to that, I have used Ethernet.

I changed resolv.conf but I could not verify whether that helped, after
a reboot it was reseted again.

Regards,
Daniel
