Those errors are likely due to systems where the old service si still
active after the update, the Reload method is not available and the
client fails to start. Catching the exception or restarting the service
on the package update would resolve the issue

[Bug 1518976] Re: miniDisplay VGA adapter doesn't work after switching to 4.2 kernel

2015-12-08 Thread Vlad Dinulescu
Hello,

Sorry for the late response. I've finally been able to try out the
latest kernel from the link you mentioned - 4.4.0-040400rc4-generic
#201512061930. And it works great! The miniDisplay VGA adapter works
again, the iphone5 tethering works again, everything's looking good!

ps: I've also tried in the meantime the updated kernel from the Ubuntu
distro (4.2.0-19), but it still doesn't work.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

I am using Ubuntu Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS

I run into problems, when I try to operate (the printer or) the scanner
of my Canon Pixma MG3250 via wireless connection using the driver
  scangearmp.

This malfunction correlates with the kernel-version I'm using.

Until kernel 3.13.0-65 everything was OK.

3.13.0-66 didn't work, the scanner was not found.

  3.13.0-67 did work again
  3.13.0-68 did still work

3.13.0-70 didn't work anymore, the scanner could not be found
  3.13.0-71 same as above

Reinstallation of driver package didn't change anything.

[Bug 1517075] Re: dpdk-dev contains no makefile templates

2015-12-08 Thread Stefan Bader
SRU Justification (this and bug #1516543 where LP does not allow to add
a Wily task):

Impact: Packaging misses an install line which causes the upstream build
environment (which dpdk-dev intends to provide) to fail. The other bug
causes hugetlbfs to be mounted twice if the systemV compat init script
is called manually.

Fix: Add the required packaging to pick up the upstream makefiles and
clean up the paths required in the init script (as well as the set paths
to be on the safe side).

Testcase:
- Call "/etc/init.d/dpdk start" manually and check for duplicate mounts of
/dev/hugepages.
- Check whether dpdk-dev installs /usr/share/dpdk/mk.

[Bug 1441631] Re: should update firmware because old 2009

2015-12-08 Thread JulienIsorce
Any update ? The current "nouveau-firmware" package provided by Ubuntu
is useless on 2/3 years old and newer graphic hardware. Modern graphic
hardware require to extract more blobs.

For arch it is done like this: (see git clone https://aur.archlinux.org

build() {
  sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-${pkgver}.run --extract-only
  python2 extract_firmware.py
}

package() {
  install -dm 0755 "${pkgdir}"/usr/lib/firmware/nouveau/
  cp -a nv* vuc-* "${pkgdir}"/usr/lib/firmware/nouveau/

[Bug 1523823] Re: Dash touch scrolling is slower than web browser touch scrolling

2015-12-08 Thread Michael Zanetti
The difference is explained by the different toolkits, yes. The reason
why the dash (and everything else) is slower is very likely because we
still haven't landed the Qt pixel-independence branches which causes Qt
to calculate the max flickVerlocy based on high density pixel ratio of
mako, instead of our virtual grid unit ratio.

2015-12-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
... so if the issue is not the difference in libraries on xenial then it
might be due to the jump to gcc 5.3.1 (as gcc 5.2.1 is faster for cross
compiling anyway).

Dash touch scrolling is slower than web browser touch scrolling. But

a different toolkit? Could it just be a side-effect of bug 1494795?

[Bug 1471462] Re: On bootup smartd reports FailedReadSmartSelfTestLog but there is no hardware problem

2015-12-08 Thread Christian Franke
It is possibly is a bug in the Intel X25 G1 firmware Intel did never fix
(a similar bug in G2 was fixed). But I don't remember any related report
since the G1 series was introduced in 2009(!).

It is possibly not a smartmontools bug, except if the problem did not
occur with older versions.

Please test if '-F nologdir' changes anything. If not, test whether
another problem occurs if '-l selftest' is not specified: Don't use '-a'
in smartd.conf, use '-H -f -t -l error' instead.

All that could be done in smartmontools is to add another -F (
--firmwarebug) option to suppress accesses to self-test log. If
desired, please create a ticket upstream. But I'm not sure whether this
enhancement is worth the (non-trivial) effort for a single SSD series
introduced 6+ years ago.

[Bug 1453538] Re: Invisible mouse pointer

2015-12-08 Thread Thierry Carrez
I don't think it's a lightdm issue. I've been trying lxdm and the same
issue happens there.

Might be a kernel issue: I tried mainline kernel 4.3.0 from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (v4.3-wily) and
it works flawlessly. Could also be a subtle race and running a different
kernel (or dumping boot messages on the console) alters the parameters
enough to make it work.
