[Bug 1454450] Re: Bluetooth mouse laggy and erratic

2015-12-29 Thread Alejandro R. Mosteo
I observe this in a 15.10 installation.

Linux 4.2.0-18-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 23:32:28 UTC 2015 i686
i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I'm using a logitech bluetooth kb+mouse. Everything works normally, then
I watch a movie in Kodi and when I exit to desktop again, mouse is very
laggy. So some kind of usb suspend might be involved.

Within Kodi, after a while, the keyboard won't even reconnect so I have
to exit with a remote. Once in the desktop the slugginesh manifests
itself.

Reloading the module as in comment #10 works for me, thanks for the
workaround.

[Bug 1529932] [NEW] X session crashes with EQ overflowing

2015-12-29 Thread hardhu
Public bug reported:

On my very old laptop, that is equipped with an Ati Mobility Radeon
X700, sometimes (and, sadly, I have to use this word, because I found no
regularity pattern for the occurrence of this bug) randomly the desktop
session locks, that is I can only move the mouse pointer, but I cannot
interact anymore with the desktop session. I am forced to login trough
ssh from another pc and to restart the laptop.

In Xorg.0.log I found these lines that are, in my opinion, related to
the crash:

(EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing
events are processed.

[Bug 1485236] Re: gpu-manager generates an invalid xorg.conf file

2015-12-29 Thread Laszlo Marai
I'm facing this same issue. I'm trying to move my old system (previously
running on a lenovo t410 with discrete nvidia graphics) to a t450, only
that has intel graphics. However, the generated xorg.conf still contains
a reference to nvidia (I have Screen 0 "nvidia").

I have removed all traces of the nvidia driver from the system, but
still experienced this issue. Fortunately I found this bug report. After
looking at the source of gpu-manager, the problem is that it thinks that
the nvidia module was unloaded. The reason is that what it does is that
it looks at the syslog (instead of dmesg, as the comment for
'has_unloaded_module' states) and my syslog still contains the trace of
the last boot on the old machine (the "nvidia: module" string fragment,
that has_unloaded_module looks for).

Note, that dmesg (of course) does not contain anything about nvidia. The
solution would be to really scan dmesg instead of syslog (fixing line
708 here: https://github.com/tseliot/ubuntu-drivers-
common/blob/master/share/hybrid/gpu-manager.c ).

This bug may well have caused the problem for Rafał above. The quick fix
is forcing rotation of (or removing) syslog and removing
/etc/X11/xorg.conf .

[Bug 1183658] Re: mtp + htc phone only partially functional

2015-12-29 Thread Phil Norisez
I seem to be having a similar problem mounting a DROID RAZR MAXX HD on
Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Rather than submitting my own bug report, I have
decided to join this one, hoping that sheer volume of complaints might
force the issue into a higher priority bracket. Background information
on what I have tried can be found in Launchpad Question 279679 and its
links and references.

[Bug 1516323] Re: With compositing off some apps have a huge black border

2015-12-29 Thread Silvio Bierman
Ah Alberts is right: the problem only happens with the terrible CSD
windows. Unfortunately in 16.04 Nautilus and GEdit have also become CSD
windows.

Libra, Orchis and Ultra-Flat are some thems I tried with the same
result. I could live with reverting all CSD windows as a workaround :)

[Bug 1529881] Re: CUPS 1.7.2 distorts colors on Canon PIXMA MG5250

2015-12-29 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
The official drivers for this printer are part proprietary and closed
source, therefore we cannot/are not allowed to include them into Ubuntu.

The gutenprint opensource driver included in Ubuntu is EXPERIMENTAL
because reverse engineering needs to be done, there is already an
upstream report about this http://sourceforge.net/p/gimp-print/bugs/688/

Actually your printer manufacturer needs to provide a openprinting distribution
independent driver package as described here:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/WritingAndPackagingPrinterDrivers
This would allow automatic download and installation of the manufacturers
printer driver by system-config-printer as already implemented by this
specification:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/printerdriverautodownload since
Ubuntu Intrepid.
As mentioned the system-config-printer part is implemented.
You should ask your manufacturer in this case Canon to provide a distibution
independent package that allows their printer driver to be installed
automatically on Linux in general (not only Ubuntu).

[Bug 1529901] [NEW] Caps Lock won't work in Wine

2015-12-29 Thread Gautier Rouleau
Public bug reported:

Hi everyone,

I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 and I'd like to report a bug about this: the
caps lock won't work in any windows application.

Here's what I did to confirm it's not just specific to one app:
- I ran `winecfg` in a terminal and I went to the "About" section
- I tried typing my anything with the caps lock ON in any text area and all of
it wrote in lower-case

It seems to happen with any version of wine; I've tried with v1.6.2,
v1.7.52, v1.8 and v1.8-staging.

1) System info:
-
Description:Ubuntu 15.10
Release:15.10
-

2) apt-cache policy wine:
-
wine:
  Installed : 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1
  Candidate : 1:1.8.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu15.10.1~ppa1

 1:1.6.2-0ubuntu10 0
500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/universe i386 Packages

3) What I expected to happen
-
Have the letters written in uppercase when the Caps Lock key is ON
-

4) What happens instead
-
I get the letters written in lowercase.

[Bug 1291890] Re: Add Lenovo ThinkPad OneLink GigaLAN USB ID to ax88179 driver

2015-12-29 Thread Felix Lammermann
It doesn't work for me, I have pretty much no idea how to do this. Can
anyone please post step by step instructions for me?

What I did so far:

I have found a file called "ax88179_178a.ko" in
"/lib/modules/3.13.0-74-generic/kernel/drivers/net" as well as in
"/lib/modules/3.19.0-31-generic/kernel/drivers/net". I tried patching
each of them with:

patch "ax88179_178a.ko" < "0001-AX88179_178A-Add-VID-DID-for-Lenovo-
OneLinkDock-Giga.patch"

which returned in both cases:

patching file ax88179_178a.ko
Hunk #1 FAILED at 1418.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 1435.
2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file ax88179_178a.ko.rej

So my questions are:

1. What am I doing wrong?
2. "3.13.0-74-generic" and "3.19.0-31-generic" seem to be better than
"3.13.0-18-generic", should the ethernet therefore work out of the box and I
don't need to patch this? If so, I probably have another problem with my
ethernet and would be grateful if someone can help me.

[Bug 1529266] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 13-4005dx] suspend/resume failure

2015-12-29 Thread Stephen
Actually, I did both reverse and forward bisects (see comments 11 and 12
respectively), but by reverse bisect didn't find the fix because the
problem commit, 0691783, is a cherry pick of 4a1e2fe from the 4.3
branch.

After locating the original commit I tested all the 4.3 releases and
found they all demonstrate the bug. I've now isolated the fix between
4.3 and 4.4-rc1, so I'm starting a new reverse bisect to identify the
fix.

Thanks.

The default Nexus 4 channel hasn't got the HERE AGPS, but if you change
to the bq-aquaris.en channel (yes, it works well with N4) you can use
it.

[Bug 1529909] [NEW] ListItemLayout: title text overlaps subtitle if maximumLineCount > 1

2015-12-29 Thread Stefano Verzegnassi
Public bug reported:

See attached screenshot.

What happens:
When the "title.maximumLineCount" property is set to a value greater than 1,
the second line of the title overlaps the subtitle, resulting in an unreadable
text.

What I'd expect to happen:
The subtitle is placed below the last line of the title, according to the
spacing and all the style/layout properties of ListItemLayout.

Attached to this report there's a QML document which reproduces the
issue.

* Verified on:
Ubuntu 15.04 (desktop) + Stable Phone Overlay PPA

Backport packages from packages here can be worked on, the following tracking
bugs were opened for them:

[Bug 1530002] Re: Music app takes about 60 seconds to start up

2015-12-29 Thread Michi Henning
There is nothing in any queue (at least not that I know of). The songs
are in the Music folder, and the mediascanner has finished indexing
them. Then I start the music app, that's it.

[Bug 1316991] Re: Shutdown hangs waiting for plymouth-shutdown

2015-12-29 Thread Stefan Fleischmann
>What is confusing however in the ps outputs attached is that in all three
>process outputs:
> - plymouthd in boot mode is still running
> - /bin/plymouth quit has not completed

I experience the same issue. This also causex 'plymouth --ping' to hang
indefinitely. If I kill plymouthd manually reboot continues.

But it seems like this is a real corner case. I don't use the default "quiet
splash" kernel commandline options. Instead I use "console=tty0
console=ttyS1,115200n8" in order to have a serial console for SOL (serial over
LAN). And I use a custom Upstart file to start an X server instance. The
problem disappears if I either:
 a) remove the second console option from the kernel commandline or
 b) delay start of the X server, for example by adding "started dbus and
plymouth-ready" to the start conditions in my custom Xserver upstart config

$ apt-cache policy plymouth

[Bug 1530014] [NEW] When charging phone/tablet, power management says UPS battery is low and causes immediate shutdown

2015-12-29 Thread Tony Walker
Public bug reported:

Short story:
I have a CyberPower 825AVR (USB attached) when attaching my iPhone or iPad (via
USB) to charge, the Unity (gnome power manager?) displays a message saying the
UPS battery is critically low and the system will shut down immediately. It
does shut down immediately. It seems that upowerd or the gnome power manager
"confuses" the device's (e.g., my iPhone's) battery with my UPS's battery.
Interestingly, if I unplug the UPS cable, plug-in my iPhone, and then plug-in
my UPS, the system does not shut down. However, the gnome power manager icon
disappears and reappears at an interval of a second or two.

Hopefully Useful Details:
- Fresh install of Ubuntu 15.10 on my mid-2011 (i5-2400S, 20GB RAM) 21.5" iMac.
- Single boot (OS/X is not installed).
- UPS battery is in good health and fully charged.
- Power drain on UPS is minimal: iMac, additional LCD display, and desktop
speakers.

upower:
  Installed: 0.99.3-1build2
  Candidate: 0.99.3-1build2
  Version table:
 *** 0.99.3-1build2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/main amd64 Packages

gnome-power-manager:

  Version table:
 *** 3.16.1-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ wily/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I wrote a mark in syslog before plugging in my iPhone and attached the
(hopefully) relevant part of the log. I think line 41 is the key.

Of course, if you need info or help, please ask.

[Bug 1529991] [NEW] qmlscene crashes if music app is started while mediascanner is extracting

2015-12-29 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

I'm attaching an archive with about 7000 "songs" (each of which is a
second of silence).

To reproduce the problem, make sure that the music app isn't running and
unpack the archive somewhere under the Music directory. This causes
mediascanner to start indexing the files. (It'll take about 10 minutes
on Mako.)

While mediascanner is still indexing, start the music app. A few seconds
later, qmlscene crashes. (I'm seeing this with image 326 from rc-
proposed.)

I'm also attaching the crash file.

[Bug 1448512] Re: REGRESSION: No system tray icon in KDE Plasma 5

2015-12-29 Thread St Weiss
Support for legacy (xembed) systray icons has been restored in Plasma
workspace 5.5:

http://blog.davidedmundson.co.uk/blog/xembed_back

"In retrospect, I think we underestimated the fallout this would cause.
[...] There's nothing wrong with changing our minds in response to user
feedback."

Kubuntu 16.04 LTS is going to ship with Plasma 5.5 or newer, so this
issue should be resolved then. Backports to earlier releases are
unlikely, from what I've read.

thank you for your workaround. I had the same problems with not working

After using your fix, the wifi works like a charm but as you said my

Anything new on this problem? A final fix would be great. :)

502 means Bad Gateway, suggesting that something in the comms between
dash.ubuntu.com and 7digital went wrong.
The Qt 499 error is QNetworkReply::UnknownServerError.

This causes a two-hour back-off in the thumbnailer.

[Bug 1530001] [NEW] QtCreator crashes when screen resolution is changed

2015-12-29 Thread Vaclav Petras
Public bug reported:

1. Start QtCreator
2. Go to Displays and change the resolution (and Apply)
3. QtCreator crashes

This happens to me on Ubuntu 15.10 but I think I observed that on
Lubuntu as well. I'm not sure but it might be related to Qt-based
applications in general as I remember vaguely same behavior of some
terminal application which I think was Qt-based. However, this does not
happen with KDE applications, for example Kile survives the change.
QtCreator fails regularly.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
Package: qtcreator 3.5.0+dfsg-1ubuntu3.1

[Bug 1530002] [NEW] Music app takes about 60 seconds to start up

2015-12-29 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

See this bug for the attachment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtdeclarative-opensource-
src/+bug/1529991

With the files from that attachment in the Music folder, and the
collection having been completely indexed by the mediascanner, it takes
around 60 seconds for the music app to start. (It just sits there with a
spinner during that time.) qmlscene consumes 100% CPU while this is
going on. Eventually, the music app starts normally.

[Bug 1530004] [NEW] output volume is randomly changing level

2015-12-29 Thread Jamie Ryan Mascola
Public bug reported:

I've confirmed that the volume control for the PC is changing of it's
own volition. The volume applet in the top pane (using Ubuntu Gnome
15.10) and the volume sliders in alsamixer are changing every 10 seconds
to a random level. The interval of the changes is not periodic (random
time interval and output volume). It does look like the fader goes to
zero before choosing a new random volume level.

I am running 5.1 surround, and the motherboard supports the feature. I
had this problem while running while 15.04 with a single stereo (green
jack, rear) output speaker system. It seemed to be repaired in an
update, because the issue disappeared after a while. I removed the USB
peripherals that I usually have attached which control volume (eg
keyboard) I even went as far as to disable bluetooth in case that was
causing issues.

[Bug 1529941] Re: Elasticsearch init scripts fails test silently

2015-12-29 Thread Robert Labrie
I narrowed it down some. This script is broken for systemd. I had to
switch the box to upstart-sysv. Seriously, now that systemd is the
default, this package should be considered broken.

[Bug 1322751] Re: Compiz running on Intel Haswell GPU has 100% CPU usage when computer is locked

2015-12-29 Thread John
The PAM user authenticator in the unity lockscreen busy waits because of
a bug in std::future in libstdc++6.

The libstdc++ bug is decribed here, including a patch for fixing it:
https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=68921
(GCC Bugzilla – Bug 68921 [5/6 Regression] std::future::wait() makes invalid
futex calls and spins)

strace on compiz while the lockscreen is active shows the following system call
being repeated:
futex(0xb32f7a9c, FUTEX_WAIT, -2147483648, {2948397076, 2}) = -1 EINVAL
(Invalid argument)

Here is a backtrace of the affected thread in compiz when it is in that syscall:

[Bug 1516251] Re: 10ec:b723 [HP Notebook - 15-ac106na] Wifi unstable

2015-12-29 Thread Alan Thompson
Can confirm that I can use the device with single antenna connected to
Aux port

The connection is however 'choppy' and the signal is still weaker (in
real terms and via UI readout)

Assume the device is designed to be used with loop antenna as stated by
dark-vader : )

I was a little eager to jump the gun and claim it fixed, my bad

[Bug 1530002] Re: Music app takes about 60 seconds to start up

2015-12-29 Thread Andrew Hayzen
Just to assist in debugging, do you have all of you tracks (you state
you have 7000 in the other bug) in the queue? As it will try to load
those currently from a database into the queue at startup, and this
would likely take a while.

If this is the case, this will hopefully be improved after we move to
bg-playlists, and then once the load()/save() methods work (bug 1510225)
as then the tracks will be directly read into the queue via c++ in the
media-hub/qtubuntu-media side.

[Bug 1530013] [NEW] Grub 2.02-beta is not working.

2015-12-29 Thread smurf
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04, Gnome FlashBack, almost everything is
ok, but Grub is a nightmare.
I have a separate partition for /boot (/dev/sda1) because I always have a
partition with installed the system working (now /dev/sda2) and another
partition with an experimental installation (now /dev/sda3), when I decide that
the new installation is ok I simply change grub.cfg script and my family
automatically use the new system without to sense the change.
Upgrading to 14.04 carried the new grub version 2.02-beta, but there is no way
for me to put it to work. After a fresh install of Grub I reboot and the grub
crash to a "grub rescue>" prompt.
The solution I found now is to mix the contents of old install of grub 1.99 and
the new install of grub 2.02-beta, the system gives me some "error: file not
found" messages, but boots.
Now, my questions:
1) how can I get a functioning install of Grub 2.02 ?
2) why I receive a message "Hit any key to continue " when booting the new
kernels for 14.04?

[Bug 1420022] Re: mplayer using va_gl whites out while fast-forwarding/rewinding

2015-12-29 Thread Hadmut Danisch
One detail:

I found that the whitening effect in some cases happens only if I
activate the onscreen display (press o ). It seems as if that somehow
propagates the white value and causes some avalance effect.

[Bug 1529757] Re: Error 403: Forbidden ==> endless loop

2015-12-29 Thread rvm
I can't reproduce the problem. Anyway smplayer 14.9.0 is obsolete, you
should update it.

If you had sent the smplayer log (options -> view log) I could have
checked if that problem is still present in the current version.

[Bug 1371274] Re: Unable to use the widevine plugin with Chromium

2015-12-29 Thread Claude Libois
There is a possibility with webgl to acceleration decoding on pi2. This
requires to build and update the kernel:
http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/VC4/
I will first try to test the raspian build provided before diving into the
kernel build's hell.
BTW do not try to test if with a VNC server as it doesn't work...

[Bug 1323426] Re: HP Z8000 bluetooth mouse

2015-12-29 Thread Curtis Penner
Similar to Bela Berczi (bberczi). This was on a new HP Envy 13t. It
works fine with Windows 10, but will only connect as "All Types", and
will not work as a mouse, on the 14.04.3 release.

[Bug 1518956] [bcmwl/trusty] possible regression found

2015-12-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
As a part of the Stable Release Updates quality process a search for
Launchpad bug reports using the version of bcmwl from trusty-proposed
was performed and bug 1529945 was found. Please investigate this bug
report to ensure that a regression will not be created by this SRU. In
the event that this is not a regression remove the "verification-failed"
tag from this bug report and add the tag "bot-stop-nagging" to bug
1529945 (not this bug). Thanks!
