In my case, the issue occurs on a 15 days Xubuntu 15.10 (64 bits)
installation, just after having installed Wine (1.6.2) by: "sudo apt-get
install --install-recommends winehq" (http://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu). I

[Bug 1532659] [NEW] vmhgfs kernel module missing entirely on trusty

2016-01-10 Thread Robert Xiao
Public bug reported:

I uninstalled the old vmware tools and did `sudo apt-get install open-
vm-tools`. After a reboot, `modprobe vmhgfs` fails with `modprobe:
FATAL: Module vmhgfs not found.`. Mounting also fails: `mount -t vmhgfs
.host:/ /mnt/hgfs/` fails with `Error: cannot mount filesystem: No such
device` (/mnt/hgfs was previously created as a plain empty directory).

Installing open-vm-dkms and open-vm-tools-dkms does not help.

I'm running Trusty Tahr (Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS) in the server (no-GUI)
configuration, and kernel version "3.16.0-57-generic
#77~14.04.1-Ubuntu". The version of open-vm-tools I have is
9.4.0-1280544-5ubuntu6.2 (the latest).

Shared folder support is, in short, completely broken right now on
trusty. Based on the file list and the apt-get install process, it
doesn't even look like it's attempting to build a kernel driver (I have
the necessary headers, along with build-essentials installed).

it would be be great if could temporarely set your system-language to

I would love to speak & understand zh-TW but I don't. Though we are a
minority & U need to justify to get a wider wider audience to take a
look into that. Even though the error might not appear wt lang=en it
helps to get the glimpse.

[Bug 1530171] Re: [Regression] Thinkpad dock: External monitors not recognized after 15.04 upgrade

2016-01-10 Thread aexl
Thank you christopher for this reminder, i did not knw that BIOS had to
be updated.

Unfortunately the BIOS update did not change anything.

(Note: On the linked page the current BIOS is labeled 1.82, but the
bootable ISO as well as its README (and the readme of the windows BIOS
updater) announce 1.81, as does my updated BIOS. So Lenovo seems to have
it got wrong. See
https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/j4uj65wd.txt )

xl@thinker:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
[sudo] password for xl:
J4ET81WW(1.81)
08/14/2015

Note to the above apport data:
I did the aport twice.
The first config was WITH 2 external monitors over the dock.
The second WITHOUT these monitors.
Guessing this might help.

(but some stuff may be broken as i had a strange 503 exception on the command
line, containing:
At least 4 queries/external actions issued in 0.06 seconds
OOPS-4ade3bac7cd0be6540a006ad87bf530b
)

** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

External monitors are not recognized in display settings when plugged
  into any dock port.

They *are* recognized after a reboot (not after logout).
After plugging out and the in again they are not recognized.

A monitor plugged in and out of the non-dock VGA is recognized instantly.
- After plugging in or out of the non-dock VGA, monitors plugged to dock ports
are recognized (which serves as a crazy workaround for me now).

+ (update: this works sometimes, sometimes not).

Everything used to work with 14.10, but stopped with 15.04.

A recent test with 1510 live CD did not fix this.

[Bug 1532655] [NEW] Should disable concurrent extraction only on touch, not for Arm in general

2016-01-10 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

Currently, we are setting max-extractions to 1 on Arm, even when not
running on the phone. This means that, on a Chromebook, for example,
where we use software codecs, we are not using three idle CPUs. It would
be nice to do this only on when running on touch, instead of for both
touch and desktop on Arm.

Fixing this involves working out whether we are running on touch, for
which no API currently exists. But there is one in the works:

[Bug 1517019] Re: Allow changing of desktop background colour

2016-01-10 Thread Tim
This can be achieved by setting gsettings key:
org.gnome.desktop.background primary-color

However when you select a background image, gnome-control-center resets
this key to black.

One option would be to add a colour field to gnome-tweak-tool and
disable the reset of the key in gnome-control-center

[Bug 1532659] [NEW] vmhgfs kernel module missing entirely on trusty

Hmmm... That API isn't really what we are after because all it does is
tell us what the source of an input event was, such as mouse click or
touch-screen press. But we need to know in general.

[Bug 1531766] Re: krunner dies when second monitor is attached, before startup of machine

2016-01-10 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Please don't feel refused, but I really don't think this has to do with
packaging. Especially then you could add yourself to the mentioned bug-
report on KDE.

For two reasons:
- draw more attention on this bug
- given the opportunity you can grant valuable debug information, it may help
to resolve it with faster speed.

Hence I'm not in the position to justify about the priorities that
developers have, having said so I'm not even aware if it will be fixed
in a newer version of Kubuntu (aka Development-Release 16.04). And I've
definetly justified my expectations in regards to getting fixes in STS-
releases with a lifecycle of just 9 month. Whereas I would think this
needed a mentioning in Release-Notes, as this should not simply be
bypassed and left aside since evermore users have a multi-monitor setuo-
environment - though the dev doesn't. Maybe we should poke him that this
is even possible within a testing environment VirtualBox? :-)

It's also an unreveilled secret (but true) that the underlying Qt-
Version has great influence on this. So personally I'm looking for the
landing of Qt-5.6 in Xenial 16.04. If needed I can pass on more
information on this. Wily has just disqualiyfied at this early stage of
swapping from KDE4 to KDE5 with multi-monitor setup env. But it doesn't
exlude testing & bug-reporting.

I could not dare to have the my laptop in the Docking-Station in an
unreliable condition - so I stayed there with 14.04. It's not perfect
but sufficient. And since it's older HW I need to run it in OpenGLES.
LTS-Versions are ALWAYS the one+only recommondation for production-
environment.

After years of being a Kubuntu-USER (with all ups & downs), I've come to
the conclusion that the greatest efforts are achieved if U take part in
early testing-LTS+1. If possible, things can be patched backwards or
SRU-ed then. -> (bug #1531499 - Backport request SDDM 0.13 (needs some
more sorting out b4fore it can happen) This seems to be the package in
question, since thats the stage where it happens, for my thinking.

Having written quite more than what belongs in a bug-report - since I
felt it's fair to share on certain items of "frustration" in bug-reports
too - Coming to a conclusion : Dev' are not the most communicative
people - solutions maybe having background activities -which are not
visible - (not even communicated) AND they have to "household" their
level of energy like anybody else - apart from the fact that we all put
in a certain amount of leisure-time to keep the FOSS - ideals running.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1531316] Re: Totem in full screen crashes Xorg

2016-01-10 Thread forteller
Sure, I can do that if it doesn't matter that:

1. That is "normal" Ubuntu, not Ubuntu Gnome.
2. I'll run it from a live USB.

Will all the conditions still be there to be sure that if Totem in full
screen doesn't crash Xorg there it will not do it in my real life
scenario either?

Thanks for changing the importance, btw! :)

[Bug 1524098] Re: Problems with graphics video streaming

2016-01-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
John Neufeld, as per http://support.hp.com/us-
en/drivers/selfservice/hp-110-500-desktop-pc-
series/7450567/model/7748407#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930C7 an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (80.08). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1532663] [NEW] no debug from sub-scripts

2016-01-10 Thread Jay Michael
Public bug reported:

Kernel boot parameter "debug=1" produces detailed console / log-
file output tracing script execution. No details are provided for the
execution of sub-scripts which are run in new shells.

For instance, with "debug=1" on the kernel boot command line, there
are details of variable expansions tracing execution of "casper" as it
calls "run_scripts" to process the "casper-premount" directory, right up
to the point where it runs "/scripts/casper-premount/ORDER". It uses
the shell "source" command to run ORDER, so you see some indication that
there is a line in ORDER that says "/scripts/casper-premount/20iso-
scan", but since this line is running iso-scan as a command, instead of
running it with a "source" command, it is being run in a new shell, and
the "set -x" that "init" executed as a result of the "debug=1" parameter
is lost, so there are no debug messages during the execution of 20iso-
scan.

I realize this extends beyond casper, but I think the only safe fix
will involve adding code to every sub-script to reassert "set -x" if the
kernel was given a "debug" parameter.

Ubuntu 14.04

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at

your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

When I use ubuntu-device-flash to generate snappy personal image, the

Then I tried to use --server to specify oversea server https://system-

[Bug 1526505] Re: [regression] u8 desktop session fails to start

2016-01-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Fix Released in Mir 0.18.0. Although it's good to mention this bug got
different fixes between the 0.18 and 0.19 branches, it's probably still
best to only mention it in the changelog for one of them.

[Bug 1532655] Re: Should disable concurrent extraction only on touch, not for Arm in general

2016-01-10 Thread Michi Henning
Tried with 4 concurrent vs-thumb processes on my Chromebook. Turns out
that there, I see 4 vs-thumb processes during the stress test, but they
all hang (without consuming CPU) after a split second. Eventually, we
time out and get a bunch of errors.

Marking this as "won't fix" for the time being. If the gstreamer codecs
won't work concurrently, there is nothing we can do.

I'm really sorry for this long, long delay. I have upgraded to Ubuntu

Will the output of the above commands still be useful?

Anyway, posting first. Talking later. You've waited enough already!

[Bug 1457078] Re: L2TP client support for PSK removed from 15.04/15.10

2016-01-10 Thread Paweł Szubert
Finally got it to work after hours of fiddling.
l2tp connection with psk and xauth, configured via conffiles.
Ubuntu 15.10, strongswan 5.1.2-0ubuntu6.2
Had to remove package xl2tpd (1.3.6+dfsg-3) - crashed with segfault every time
while trying to connect.
Manually installed openl2tp_1.8-1_amd64.deb from:
ftp://ftp.openl2tp.org/releases/openl2tp-1.8/debian-squeeze/openl2tp_1.8-1_amd64.deb
Work much better than my last attempt on 14.04 (openswan+pluto+openl2tp)

I have to start the connection manually (will write a short script for it, but
for now it's OK)
Will post my conffiles if someone will be interested in ;-)

But it will be great to have a network-manager plugin to manage such a
connection.

Cheers

[Bug 1531865] Re: 4.2 (linux-generic-lts-wily) kernel hangs on Bay Trail based Asus X553MA

2016-01-10 Thread Janne Heikkinen
4.2.8 didn't hang overnight either with the OpenGL application.

Some people have reported this hang happening also with 4.1.x kernels. I
wonder have I really been so damn lucky not to have single hang with
4.1.13 since November.

I see this bug has been reported in august. I hope I'm not left with a
broken package manager for 4 months. It would be bad to not be able to

[Bug 1528321] Re: Everything hangs when coming out of fullscreen in chrome

2016-01-10 Thread Starbeamrainbowlabs
@penalvch If what is installed?

Now that I'm not so tired, I can give some extra information. I tried it
with a clean xenial daily build, in which I installed chrome and then
tested it. It was probably an unfair test though, as chrome was pretty
unusable due to some serious graphical glitches.
