[Bug 1531768] Re: [arm64] multithreaded processes get locked up in futexes

2016-02-16 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, this "auto-destruct" behaviour with the xenial kernel
happens just by itself: reboot the instance, let it sit there for 15 or
60 minutes, then this kernel spew starts happening and it gets locked
up with losing network/ssh access. There was no actual payload on
these.

The attached file DpkgHistoryLog.txt suggests however, that you tried to
install "vim." (with a dot at the end). That seems not the proper way
to install just vim

[Bug 1542094] Re: [camera] LED & Flash toggles are shown even when no LED or Flash present on hardware

2016-02-16 Thread Chunsang Jeong
Frieza cam doesn't have hw flash as commented earlier, meanwhile Frieza cam hal
was hard coded to return 1 (has hw flash) which is apparently needed to be
fixed.
Just for double check, whatever cam hal returns "has" or "doesn't has", cam ui
has flash icon for main, while doesn't have it for front cam, respectively.

When Frieza cam hal got flash request, it just wrote log as below;
D/flash_mgr_m.cpp( 1130): flash_mgr_m.cpp isNeedFiringFlash() XO OO

If fixed;
D/flash_mgr_m.cpp( 1175): flash_mgr_m.cpp isNeedFiringFlash() No flash hw

[Bug 1545707] Re: Error message "Operation failed: No such file or directory" on installing/reconfiguring systemd

2016-02-16 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, I thought this would happen if there already was a tmp.mount in
systemd's brain (e. g. from a manual mount or fstab) and then adding the
unit to /etc would cause that. But indeed I cannot reproduce this
either.

So, Sworddragon, please do the steps in comment #1.

[Bug 1532484] Re: Don't warn about unsigned extension installed via Debian packages

2016-02-16 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
This is fixed in Debian, why can't we apply the patch in Ubuntu?
@chrisccoulson, could you please provide some reasoning behind "This isn't
something that we're going to be changing in Ubuntu"?

@bdrung, I have the following xul extensions installed:
xul-ext-adblock-plus 2.7.1+dfsg-1~ubuntu
xul-ext-ubufox   3.2-0ubuntu1
...why is xul-ext-ubufox trusted by firefox, while adblock isn't?
Does Canonical send ubu...@ubuntu.com.xpi to be signed by Mozilla?

Thanks!

[Bug 1545901] Re: ppa:libreoffice/ppa remains on Still

If you really intent to upgrade to 5.1.0 you are currently advised to
use https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-5-1
which contains builds for trusty and wily already.

I would like to give it some more testing before putting it up in the

[Bug 1546404] [NEW] Merge libvoikko 4.0.1-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2016-02-16 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Please merge libvoikko 4.0.1-3 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta:

The only change is the Conflicts/Replaces/Provides of libvoikko1v5. Ubuntu
went ahead and did a g++5 transition before Debian noticed it's not needed.

The Ubuntu specific change can be dropped after 16.04 LTS.

This 4.0.1-3 brings package naming to what it's supposed to be.

---

Changelog entries since current xenial version 4.0.1-2ubuntu1:

libvoikko (4.0.1-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Rename python-voikko to python3-voikko since it's for Python 3
since libvoikko 4.0.1 release.
  * Add Replaces/Conflicts/Provides and a transitional package.

[Bug 1546401] [NEW] Xmir client performance is lower with swap interval 0 than with 1

2016-02-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Xmir client performance is lower with swap interval 0 than with 1. Kind
of the opposite of what you might expect:

$ Xmir --desktop_file_hint=unity8 -sw &
$ glxgears
13339 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2667.750 FPS
13619 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2723.752 FPS
13653 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2730.425 FPS

$ env MIR_CLIENT_FORCE_SWAP_INTERVAL=0 Xmir --desktop_file_hint=unity8 -sw
$ glxgears
3092 frames in 5.0 seconds = 618.255 FPS
3185 frames in 5.0 seconds = 636.933 FPS

[Bug 1508718] Re: NetworkManager - error initialzing editor

2016-02-16 Thread Joost Ringoot
@frank (frank-olbrich) https://launchpad.net/~frank-olbrich
I tried your suggestion, it didn't work alas,...
There are some issues with it:
-file is new
- network group does not exist:

root@legolas:/etc/ppp/ip-up.d# cat ./00-dns.sh
#!/bin/sh -e
chmod 640 /etc/resolv.conf
chown systemd-network:systemd-network /etc/resolv.conf
root@legolas:/etc/ppp/ip-up.d# ls -al ./00-dns.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 76 Feb 17 07:20 ./00-dns.sh
root@legolas:/etc/ppp/ip-up.d# ./00-dns.sh
chown: invalid group: ‘root:network’
root@legolas:/etc/ppp/ip-up.d#

I tried also changing it to systemd.network:

#!/bin/sh -e
chmod 640 /etc/resolv.conf
chown systemd-network:systemd-network /etc/resolv.conf
root@legolas:/etc/ppp/ip-up.d#

but that doesn't work either

Anyway, there must be somekind of local dns-service, since resolving
works, and resolv.conf points to the localhost as dns-server:

root@legolas:~# ls -al /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Jan 29 11:11 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
root@legolas:~# ls -al /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 172 Feb 17 07:46 /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
root@legolas:~# cat /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf
# Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
nameserver 127.0.1.1
root@legolas:~#

Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

[Bug 1546393] [NEW] boot in xenial shows black screen instead of plymouth logo / encryption prompt

2016-02-16 Thread Joe Barnett
Public bug reported:

After updating to xenial, I see nothing but a black screen after EFI
boot successfully. I can blindly type my disk encryption password to
get the system to evenutally boot to a GDM prompt, but there's no visual
feedback before that point. At first I thought it was because the
initrd wasn't created properly on upgrade from wily
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1546342), but
forcing it to regenerate by apt-get install --reinstalling the kernel
didn't fix it.

[Bug 1546387] [NEW] Spurious carriage return in strings

2016-02-16 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

# What actually happens:

1. In the Network List, select any network, say freenode.
2. Click "Edit..."
3. The "Character set" field says "UTF-8 (Unicode)" followed by a box
indicating an unprintable character, containing its Unicode code point "000D",
which is the Carriage Return.
4. Click the arrow next to the Character set field, choose "UTF-8 (Unicode)".
The Carriage Return character disappears.
5. Connect to the network. The titlebar will say "HexChat: @
freenode" followed by a box with "000D" in it.

# What I expect to happen:

In steps 3 and 5, no box indicating an unprintable Carriage Return
character should appear.

I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 with HexChat 2.10.2.

[Bug 1483586] Re: On demand cpufreq governor causes large amounts of jitter

2016-02-16 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello bugproxy, or anyone else affected,

Accepted sysvinit into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/2.88dsf-
41ubuntu6.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 95853] Re: Nautilus: too easy to move files/folders to Trash (single key press of "Delete")

2016-02-16 Thread Isaac
Gosh, this thread got ugly, with the "windoze" bashing and calling
people "imbeciles", over a feature that is:

a) easily solved (I went back and forth between looking for solutions on
the internet, and essentially rewriting most of the code GG wrote in a
patch more than 7 years ago, before noticing that he did it).

b) would inconvenience NOBODY (it would be an option, turned OFF by
default, so the default behavior wouldn't change)

c) ... in an application that isn't exactly overflowing with user
options

d) ... and would have effectively no additional performance overhead
(we're calling one user setting, one branch operation, and MAYBE a
hundred bytes of memory - if this is what we're calling bloat, give me a
break kids).

e) and when you find yourself on a strange, annoying or poorly laid out
keyboard, becomes VERY important.

I truly can't believe this community sometimes. Because credentials and history
seems to matter to some people, I've been using Linux AND Windows for over 15
years (each). I am comfortable in both - though more comfortable on the command
line, where things can't accidentally end up in the trash by hitting a delete
key that is too close to an enter key. I spend most of my time developing code
in Linux, and then using Windows for anything "productive" that I want to do -
i.e. anything other than develop code on the command line. Why? Because in a
modern operating system - one that wants its users to know what's going on, and
prevent things like accidental data loss if the wrong key is pressed - these
aren't issues. And I'm a user who knows what I'm doing - I can only imagine the
user that is relatively new to Linux.

The arguments - 'OMG do we need a dialog box for copies? moves? drags?'
Sure, if those can be done by one errant keypress. If move-to-trash
became a ctrl+whatever combo instead of a single key, this whole topic
would be moot.

Did I spend 20 minutes having to fish things out of the trash because of
it tonight? Yes. Could I have possibly, irreparably, lost data if I
hadn't noticed? Absolutely.

If these are the sort of things that generate ridicule, then it's time
to stop trying to entice "ordinary users" (you know, the OSX and Windoze
folks everyone seems to revile) from ever using Ubuntu. Or to stop
making Gnome/Nautilus the default file browser.

[Bug 1475021] Re: [MIR] gcab

2016-02-16 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed gcab version 0.6-1 as checked into xenial. This shouldn't be
considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- gcab provides a library and program to access Microsoft Cabinet files
- Build-Depends: debhelper, dh-autoreconf, gobject-introspection,
  gtk-doc-tools, libgirepository1.0-dev, libglib2.0-dev, valac
- Does not itself use networking or cryptography
- Does not itself daemonize
- No pre/post inst/rm
- No initscripts
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- Provides /usr/bin/gcab executable
- No sudo
- No udev rules
- Runs a test suite at build, very small
- No cronjobs
- Build logs have warnings about bad function casts and signed integer
  overflows

- No subprocesses spawned
- Memory management mostly looked sane though zalloc() contains an integer
  overflow bug
- Files written to extensively, under control of cabinet files; it looks
  like this program is only prepared to pack and unpack files and
  directories. The program does try to keep files from referring to
  outside the unpack directory but the glib abstraction layer makes this
  code very difficult to reason about.
- Logging looked careful
- Environment variable GCAB_DEBUG turns on additional debugging levels
- No privileged operations; I didn't find any calls that could create
  non-file or non-directory outputs.
- No cryptography
- No networking
- No privileged portions of code
- No temp file handling
- No WebKit
- Clean cppcheck
- Clean shellcheck
- No PolicyKit

This codebase is complicated; it feels like half the program exists to
manage the glib abstractions layer, I think this program doesn't
sufficiently benefit from the abstractions to justify the extra
complications. That said, it otherwise appeared to programmed carefully,
and the file format is simple enough that it's possible to test simple
permutations of common archive format attacks by hand directly on an
archive. Some hand-testing and a few hours with AFL fuzzing didn't
discover anything CVE-worthy, though there are some caveats:

- Creating the archive assumes input is entirely trusted -- recursive
  symlinks are a quick way to consume a lot of disk space. Solving this
  would probably require significant work.
- Extracting the archive assumes the destination is entirely trusted.
  Symlinks will be followed. (This is usually desirable, but it felt worth
  documenting all the same.)

I found an integer overflow bug that may require a CVE depending upon
what parameters may be supplied to it in the zlib library. We should
distro-patch the g_malloc_n() fix until upstream has responded. (This
change is low-risk and shouldn't cause other issues.)

- ./libgcab/cabinet.c zalloc() integer overflow, should use g_malloc_n()

I found several memory leaks on error conditions; these are unlikely to
have security consequences except under the most contrived of situations:

- ./libgcab/cabinet.c cheader_read() memory leak ch->reserved if any RN()
  or RS() macros fail
- ./libgcab/cabinet.c cfolder_read() memory leak cf->reserved if RN()
  macro fails
- ./libgcab/cabinet.c cdata_read() memory leak cd->reserved if any of RN()
  macro, LZXfdi_init(), LZXfdi_decomp(), 'CK' check, inflateInit2(),
  inflate(), inflateReset(), inflateSetDictionary() fail

Security team ACK on promoting gcab to main AFTER the zalloc() function
is modified to call g_malloc_n() instead of g_malloc().

Thanks

[Bug 1546376] Re: package sa-compile 3.4.1-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 25

2016-02-16 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
the application being used for the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1545913] Re: [FFe] juju-core 2.0

** Description changed:

  The Juju team is preparing for a 2.0-beta1 release in time for the
  xenial feature freeze date (18-Feb), but not all features required for
  2.0 will be ready by that date. We believe we will have a complete and
  stable Juju 2.0 by the time of the xenial release, but we need to
  request a feature freeze exception for the following features:

  - Juju-GUI in Core
  - Removal of LXC from 2.0 codebase
  - Model migration
  - MAAS 2.0 support
  - Keystone 3 support
+ - Resources (validation of file extension, notification of resource updates
available from the charm store)
+ - Multi-model backup / restore enhancements
+ - Additional cloud credentials requirements
+ - Additional MAAS Spaces support
+

[Bug 1545913] Re: [FFe] juju-core 2.0

2016-02-16 Thread Cheryl Jennings
** Description changed:

  The Juju team is preparing for a 2.0-beta1 release in time for the
  xenial feature freeze date (18-Feb), but not all features required for
  2.0 will be ready by that date. We believe we will have a complete and
  stable Juju 2.0 by the time of the xenial release, but we need to
  request a feature freeze exception for the following features:

  - Juju-GUI in Core
  - Removal of LXC from 2.0 codebase
  - Model migration
  - MAAS 2.0 support
  - Keystone 3 support
+ - Resources (validation of file extension, notification of resource updates
available from the charm store)
+ - Multi-model backup / restore enhancements
+ - Additional cloud credentials requirements
+ - Additional MAAS Spaces support
+

  These features are critical for a final Juju 2.0 release.

[Bug 1520519] Re: ASUS ROG GL552 TouchPad not detected

2016-02-16 Thread Guido Granda Muñoz
Hello ,
Sorry on my latest message I said that the kernel 4.5rc4 didn't work, but it is
working, I just forgot to change the grub and updated as indicated above:
nouveau.modeset=0 acpi_osi=! acpi_backlight=native idle=nomwait

Now the mouse pad is working, also the sound, and the wifi card can be
fixed. I hope everything stay this way.

Cheers,

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1372530] Re: Button text color doesn't offer great contrast, and looks disabled when it's not

2016-02-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Just looked at the current design docs with kgunn's help.

It appears the common 'dark' text colour for light backgrounds Ubuntu
Design wants is #5D5D5D (but I personally think #88 might look
better). So it's seemingly just the threshold we've got wrong in
ButtonStyle.qml:

textColor: ColorUtils.luminance(button.color) <= 0.85 && !(stroke &&
!button.pressed) ? "#FF" : "#88"

should be more like:

textColor: ColorUtils.luminance(button.color) < 0.4 && !(stroke &&
!button.pressed) ? "#FF" : "#5D5D5D"

or (my personal suggestion):

textColor: ColorUtils.luminance(button.color) < 0.4 && !(stroke &&
!button.pressed) ? "#FF" : "#88"

[Bug 1451728] Re: [master] kde-config-telepathy-accounts package install error

2016-02-16 Thread Gvaz
Just had this on 16.04. I came here because I wanted to install multiple
desktops. This works fine on 14.04, so it breaks because of this
Telepathy stuff?

Nothing should cause apt-get to break. If I wasn't doing a fresh install
on VMWare I would be upset. This is unacceptable that this hasn't been
fixed after almost a year.

[Bug 1372530] Re: Button text color doesn't offer great contrast, and looks disabled when it's not

2016-02-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Perhaps it should be implemented more like:

textColor: ColorUtils.luminance(button.color) < 0.5 && !(stroke &&
!pressed) ? "#FF" : "#00"

[Bug 1372530] Re: Button text color doesn't offer great contrast, and looks disabled when it's not

2016-02-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Is that right? We had a design at least in September 2014 without this
issue and we just haven't implemented the right colours? Or is there
some newer design that the current implementation is closer to?
