[Bug 1553061] [NEW] Default Hysteresis causes poor, sticky and jumpy movement on Logitech T650

2016-03-03 Thread Trent Lloyd
Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech T650 touch-pad. Out of the box, this device feels
very poor to use because the HorizHysteresis and VertHysteresis settings
are quite high. It is very difficult to make small movements, and if
you want to move slightly diagonally it is basically impossible. The
amount of movement on screen that it jumps is several mm on a 27" 1080p
monitor.

It's hard to explain how horrible this is to use, but I would consider
this "high" on the poor usability factor, not just a minor annoyance.

This setting causes movement to be ignored until it reaches the threshold.. it
defaults to 0.5% of the hardwares diagonal size or about "14". This is
designed to reduce noise on some devices, but I suspect the main issue here is
that this is quite a large trackpad that is also very accurate. The hardware
area is 2606x2110 which seems to be at least double most laptop trackpads.

Further testing on similar devices would be required, but this default
algorithm may need some tweaking for device size and to scale better.. but
obviously it is hard to know how this will affect other devices. Otherwise is
there some way to build up a hardware quirks list? Probably not ideal but
better than nothing.

The following significantly improves the feel:
synclient HorizHysteresis=0 VertHysteresis=0

As a side note, the scroll speed is also quite slow which again I
suspect is related to the device being larger than many touch pads.
VertScrollDelta and HorizScrollDelta of -65 work much better than the
default -78 (or +78 for non-natural scrolling)

Neither of these settings can be configured in settings.

[Bug 1553060] Re: xenial server image is prompted "no kernel modules were found" when applying PXE installation

2016-03-03 Thread Taihsiang Ho
I suppose this is because the build list
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server/daily/current/xenial-server-amd64.list

is different from the archived list
http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/debian-installer/binary-amd64/

They have not been synchronized yet.

This issue hit me few days ago (around 2 or 3 days) and still there.
I am not sure someone should synchronize them manually or just wait longer and
it will synchronize automatically.

[Bug 1553052] [NEW] [FFE]: stress-ng: sync to 0.05.19

2016-03-03 Thread Colin Ian King
Public bug reported:

I was late in getting the final two stress-ng stress tests for the 4.4
kernel into Xenial and I'm requesting a Feature Freeze Exception for the
latest stress-ng

Apart from adding an OOM-pipe stressor and a sleep timer stressor, this
new version of stress-ng contains a lot of minor code clean-ups and a
few minor bug fixes found when porting stress-ng to different *BSD
kernels.

I have statically analysed the code using cppcheck and CoverityScan as
well as building it with gcc 5, gcc 6 and clang with -Wall, -Wextra with
no build warnings, so I am confident the code is in good shape. It
passes all the adt regression tests on x86 i386 and amd64, arm64 and
builds and runs fine on Debian kFreeBSD and GNU/HURD as well as *BSD.
It has been tested by community menbers of a variety of ARM boards
including the BeagleBone. Again I am confident that it will build
cleanly on a range of systems.

Changelog is a follows:

  * Makefile: bump version
  * stress-switch: don't initialize buf_size twice
  * stress-ng: don't stress-sleep options unless STRESS_SLEEP defined
  * stress-shm-sysv: comparing j < i - 1 is incorrect when i = 0
  * stress-shm-sysv: parent should close read end of pipe
  * stress-context: make stacks larger, avoid segfault on kFreeBSD
  * stress-oom-pipe: handle condition where pipe size can't be set
  * stress-pipe: use O_DIRECT when possible
  * stress-switch: use O_DIRECT with 1 byte buffer is possible
  * stress-oom-pipe: ensure sz is set before we check it against prev_sz
  * Add stress-oom-pipe pipe buffer stressor
  * helper: fix comment on system_read()
  * stress-fallocate: add in default mode 0
  * stress-iosync: fix build warning when using old glibc:
  * stress-fstat: add blacklist of paths not to open/fstat/close
  * correctly spell stress_adjust_pthread_max
  * stress-str: make some statics into static const
  * stress-socket: make socket_opts static const
  * stress-maxtrix: make some statics static const
  * stress-vm: make some statics static const
  * stress-wcstr: make variables static const
  * stress-get: make priorities static const
  * stress-filename: make filename_opts static const
  * stress-dentry: make dentry_removals static const
  * stress-cpu: make some variables static const
  * stress-clone: make flags and unshare flags static const
  * stress-chmod: make modes static const
  * perf: make perf_tp_info static const
  * cache: make struct generic_map const
  * helper: make stress_temp_path static const
  * stress-udp-flood: make data static const
  * stress-spawn: make exec strings static
  * Only define OPT_PTHREAD* macros if STRESS_PHREAD is defined
  * Minor #define changes, no functional change
  * stress-cpu: remove redundant initialisation of last_e
  * stress-cpu: don't build _Decimal stressors with clang
  * stress-shm-sysv: set entire shm_ids array to -1
  * stress-fork: make child exit immediately and stash pid only in parent
  * stress-xattr: free buffer on error exit path
  * stress-timerfd: fix timer thresholding check
  * Add sleep stressor
  * stress-clock: add some comments and make source 80 column friendly
  * bigheap: reorder some variables on the stack for better packing
  * Add whitespace in return statement
  * thermal-zone: minor clean up
  * net: make loop iterator size_t
  * cache: minor code tweaks, no functional changes
  * cache: rework get_contents error return paths
  * cache: reformat function declarations to match the stress-ng code style
  * clean up and rename macro mk_path to MK_PATH
  * Ensure we do not under run string buffer
  * Add apparmor_parser excutable check
  * time: make source 80 column friendly
  * thermal-zone: make source 80 column friendly
  * sched: make source 80 column friendly
  * perf: make source 80 column friendly
  * mlock: make source 80 column friendly
  * limit.c: remove redundant #includes
  * io-priority: make source 80 column friendly
  * ignite-cpu: make source 80 column friendly
  * Include stress-ng.h first for __kernel_long_t and __kernel_ulong_t

[Bug 1423649] Re: DPDK port on Ubuntu

2016-03-03 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
Thanks Arthur for making me aware of this bug.
It wasn' filed against DPDK so I missed it on my screening.

FYI we have DPDK 2.2 in Xenial since February 19th.

FYI: The project upstream is fast moving and IMHO sometimes a bit brittle.
So as we are ramping up testing we are currently flushing out as much issues as
possible to make it more stable and consumable.
Therefore there are new revisions every now and then, but it is available and
if you use it and run into issues let me know.
I might be able to help and if not we will file it as a bug and
track/handle/prioritize it together with the others.

As usual look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk for known open
issues.
I'll add dpdk as affected packet and mark it properly, but let you do the OPNFV
bug status updates.

[Bug 1543194] Re: [HP Compaq 6720s] Fan at full speed after suspend

2016-03-03 Thread pieter k
Luckily there are workarounds for this issue for both the old
situation(1) and systemd(2).

1) In the old situation (Trusty Tahr - upstart) I found the following remedy
that works like a charm:
Make a file with the following content (just the way I found in on the
internet) read further below the quote:
bash script:

#!/bin/sh
#
# Reset fan speeds after resume, otherwise they blow at maximum speed
#
# Used as work-around for ACPI kernel bug 58301
# https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58301
#
# The idea for this fix was taken from
# http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1761370
#
# Author: fr...@qnipp.com
#
# To be made executable (sudo chmod 755 AnyName.sh and then to be saved as
/etc/pm/sleep.d/AnyName.sh

case "$1" in
  thaw|resume)
for i in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device* ; do
  type=`cat $i/type`
  if [ "$type" = "Fan" ] ; then
echo 0 > $i/cur_state
  fi
  done
  ;;
  esac

2) But things are changed with systemd. After a proces of trial and error I
found the following:
step one:

Create a file with the following content (read further below quote) :
bash script:

#!/bin/sh
# make this file executable (chmod 755 NameFile.sh)
# copy this file to folder /lib/systemd/system-sleep/

if [ $1 = post ] && [ $2 = suspend ]
then /usr/local/bin/fansystemd.sh
fi

step two:
Then create a file with the following content:
bash script:

#!/bin/sh
#
# Reset fan speeds after resume, otherwise they blow at maximum speed
#
# Used as work-around for ACPI kernel bug 58301
# https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58301
#
# The idea for this fix was taken from
# http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1761370
#
# Author: fr...@qnipp.com
#
# make file exectable (sudo chmod 755 NameFile.sh)
# To be saved as /usr/local/bin/ (sudo cp NameFile.sh /usr/local/bin/)
# this is like the upstart-script only without the first lines

  for i in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device* ; do
  type=`cat $i/type`
  if [ "$type" = "Fan" ] ; then
echo 0 > $i/cur_state
  fi
  done
  ;;
  esac

Make file exectable (sudo chmod 755 NameFile.sh), save as as
/usr/local/bin/NameFile.sh (sudo cp NameFile.sh /usr/local/bin/). This is like
the upstart-script only without the first lines.
This is 100% effective.

[Bug 1553044] Re: Ethernet Connection randomly disconnects after transmit queue 0 timed out

2016-03-03 Thread SOORAJ S
** Description changed:

  Description of problem:

  Ethernet connection gets disconnected at random apparently without any
  reason. I have tried the following command to restart my ethernet
  connection, `sudo service network-manager restart` though it never
  solved the issue. Every time I have to restart my system to get the
  connection back.
+
+ see: `http://askubuntu.com/questions/615423/ethernet-connection-
+ randomly-disconnects-after-transmit-queue-0-timed-out`

  OBSERVATION: It happens more frequently when I make calls in skype or
  hangout. It seems that heavy usage of Ethernet is causing the
  disconnection.

  Debug steps tried so far:

  I tried to change from `r8169` to `r8168` but never solved the problem,
  ethernet connection is unstable as before.

[Bug 1552424] Re: [FFE] NetworkManager 1.2-beta

2016-03-03 Thread Martin Pitt
> Other FFEs will be opened for NM VPN plugins and for NetworkManager-
applet.

I suspect that they need to be updated in lockstep, so perhaps better
just add tasks here? Or are they really independent from updating NM
itself?

I generally support this as well, but this needs loads of testing across
devices that we have. With that I'm interested in a contingency plan, i.
e. at this point I'd like to make sure that in the worst case we can
roll back. Which other packages would this upgrade affect aside from
network-manager{,-vpn,-applet}?

[Bug 1553044] [NEW] Ethernet Connection randomly disconnects after transmit queue 0 timed out

2016-03-03 Thread SOORAJ S
Public bug reported:

Description of problem:

Ethernet connection gets disconnected at random apparently without any
reason. I have tried the following command to restart my ethernet
connection, `sudo service network-manager restart` though it never
solved the issue. Every time I have to restart my system to get the
connection back.

OBSERVATION: It happens more frequently when I make calls in skype or
hangout. It seems that heavy usage of Ethernet is causing the
disconnection.

Debug steps tried so far:

I tried to change from `r8169` to `r8168` but never solved the problem,
ethernet connection is unstable as before.

resource indicators to launch the htop as the additonal refrences does

[Bug 1537147] Re: complete scope "messaging" implementation

2016-03-03 Thread Marcus Tomlinson
The scope's current "status" is made accessible via
"unity::shell::scopes::ScopeInterface::status()".

We currently report back on statuses: "Okay", "NoInternet", and
"NoLocationData". And of course we could extend the enum to include more
as needed.

At this point it would be up to unity8 to take that status and display
something useful (with translation) to the user.

[Bug 880138] Re: Lubuntu, cannot add application to the Launcher

2016-03-03 Thread Brendan Perrine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1531925] Re: Can't connect Logitech Living Room Keyboard [LE]

2016-03-03 Thread Simon Fels
@Pat: One important thing: Don't use hciconfig up anymore. Even if
its still there and works to some degree that will only initialize the
controller partly as its using an old kernel API. Use bluetoothctl only
to power on/off bluetooth:

$ bluetoothctl
[bluetooth]# power on
Changing power on succeeded

As in this case you don't see an LE device this comes from the fact that
we power on bluetooth via hciconfig.

I also add the wifi Connection Information box, maybe it helps. If I can
run any logging or debugging, please tell exactly what to do to make it
work. Can't tell if it dynamically changes the n and g mode.

[Bug 1508926] Re: [MIR] fwupdate

2016-03-03 Thread Seth Arnold
I reviewed fwupdate version 0.5-1 as checked into xenial. This should not
be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of
maintainability.

- fwupdate helps Linux hosts install and run UEFI-based updates
- Build-Depends: debhelper, pkg-config, libpopt-dev, libefivar-dev,
  lsb-release, gnu-efi, elfutils
- Does not itself do networking or cryptography
- Does not itself daemonize
- pre/post inst/rm looks to properly undo EFI installed bits on uninstall
- No dbus services
- No setuid files
- fwupdate executable in the path
- No sudo fragments
- No udev rules
- No tests run during build or autopkgtest
- No cronjobs
- Relatively clean build logs

- No subprocesses spawned
- Memory management is very unusual (e.g. onstack() function) but looks
  disciplined and careful
- File IO sets up EFI boot environments, looks careful
- Logging looks careful
- One environment variable, looked careful, best to say it should only be
  set by an admin: LIBFWUP_ESRT_DIR
- Privileged operations are privileged by nature of writing to the EFI
  boot space, variables
- No cryptography
- No networking
- Temporary file handling looked careful
- No WebKit
- Clean cppcheck, some shellcheck issues
- No PolicyKit

This code is clean and well-written. I had reviewed an earlier version of
fwupdate and reported some issues and had some suggestions; the fwupdate
team took those suggestions seriously and addressed everything with aplomb
and style. (I didn't investigate each change individually but the end
result is clear, the package is clean and a pleasure to read.)

Security team ACK for promoting fwupdate to main.

Here's the notes I took while reviewing this package, along with a lintian
error and shellcheck output:

- fwup_set_up_update() lots of work between final fputc() and fclose() --
  does this need fflush(fout); fsync(outfd); before the work?
- get_fd_and_media_path() asprintf error path should not use "goto out;"
  because the fullpath variable is undefined (by asprintf(3)).

Lintian error:

[Bug 1553017] Re: Unable to deploy xenial on MAAS

2016-03-03 Thread Scott Moser
I havent tried this time, but there is fairly good re-create for the
previous versions of this bug in bug 1463461 and bug 1501033.

** Also affects: open-iscsi (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

  When trying to deploy a Xenial node on MAAS, the node quickly
  transitions from "Deploying" to "Failed Deployment".

  Connecting to the console shows that cloud init continues to run, and
  the node will eventually get to a login screen, but I cannot access the
  machine over the network.

  This has been seen on MAAS 1.9.1 and 1.10.
+
+ Related bugs:
+ * Bug 1050487: resolvconf not updated on iscsi root
+ * Bug 1463461: resolvconf not updated by
/lib/systemd/system/ifup@.service.d/open-iscsi.conf
+ * Bug 1501033: transient error results in /etc/resolv.conf not populated in
iscsi root

** No longer affects: cloud-init

** Summary changed:

- Unable to deploy xenial on MAAS
+ Unable to deploy xenial on MAAS / resolv.conf not populated

Lubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported and is eol is this reproduceable in

[Bug 1552371] Re: Unexpected display on

2016-03-03 Thread Alberto Aguirre
If 1) happens without keyboard or mouse attached that definitely counts
as a bug

As for proximity - the main issue is there's no API to query the current state
of the sensor (as Alexandros mentioned).
However done properly the power drain should be minimal as it should only be
turned on during an off to on transition (at least to handle the cases
described here).

[Bug 1510198] Re: [FFe] Sync (almost) with libreoffice-dictionaries in Debian sid

2016-03-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package language-selector - 0.158

---
language-selector (0.158) xenial; urgency=medium

  * data/pkg_depends:
- Stop pulling myspell-* for languages where hunspell-* are made
  available via libreoffice-dictionaries 1:5.1.0-1ubuntu1
  (LP: #1510198).
- Stop pulling openoffice.org-hyphenation for languages which are
  not available in version 0.9.
- Pull hunspell-no/hyphen-no/mythes-no if nb_NO or nn_NO locale.
  * language_support_pkgs.py:
- Hack to prevent that hunspell-sv-se is pulled by
  check-language-support.

[Bug 1553012] [NEW] Misleading explanatory text for how to add a custom shortcut key

2016-03-03 Thread Dan Dascalescu
Public bug reported:

In Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts, the text in the status bar
reads,

"To edit a screenshot, click the row and hold down the new keys or press
Backspace to clear"

That's not entirely accurate. If you click near the shortcut name in the
row, a popup appears to edit the shortcut. You must click SPECIFICALLY
on the shortcut key column to change it.
