[Bug 1553061] [NEW] Default Hysteresis causes poor, sticky and jumpy movement on Logitech T650
Public bug reported: I have a Logitech T650 touch-pad. Out of the box, this device feels very poor to use because the HorizHysteresis and VertHysteresis settings are quite high. It is very difficult to make small movements, and if you want to move slightly diagonally it is basically impossible. The amount of movement on screen that it jumps is several mm on a 27" 1080p monitor. It's hard to explain how horrible this is to use, but I would consider this "high" on the poor usability factor, not just a minor annoyance. This setting causes movement to be ignored until it reaches the threshold.. it defaults to 0.5% of the hardwares diagonal size or about "14". This is designed to reduce noise on some devices, but I suspect the main issue here is that this is quite a large trackpad that is also very accurate. The hardware area is 2606x2110 which seems to be at least double most laptop trackpads. Further testing on similar devices would be required, but this default algorithm may need some tweaking for device size and to scale better.. but obviously it is hard to know how this will affect other devices. Otherwise is there some way to build up a hardware quirks list? Probably not ideal but better than nothing. The following significantly improves the feel: synclient HorizHysteresis=0 VertHysteresis=0 As a side note, the scroll speed is also quite slow which again I suspect is related to the device being larger than many touch pads. VertScrollDelta and HorizScrollDelta of -65 work much better than the default -78 (or +78 for non-natural scrolling) Neither of these settings can be configured in settings. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1553061 Title: Default Hysteresis causes poor, sticky and jumpy movement on Logitech T650 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1553061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1553052] [NEW] [FFE]: stress-ng: sync to 0.05.19
Public bug reported: I was late in getting the final two stress-ng stress tests for the 4.4 kernel into Xenial and I'm requesting a Feature Freeze Exception for the latest stress-ng Apart from adding an OOM-pipe stressor and a sleep timer stressor, this new version of stress-ng contains a lot of minor code clean-ups and a few minor bug fixes found when porting stress-ng to different *BSD kernels. I have statically analysed the code using cppcheck and CoverityScan as well as building it with gcc 5, gcc 6 and clang with -Wall, -Wextra with no build warnings, so I am confident the code is in good shape. Hi, Thanks Arthur for making me aware of this bug. It wasn' filed against DPDK so I missed it on my screening. FYI we have DPDK 2.2 in Xenial since February 19th. FYI: The project upstream is fast moving and IMHO sometimes a bit brittle. So as we are ramping up testing we are currently flushing out as much issues as possible to make it more stable and consumable. Therefore there are new revisions every now and then, but it is available and if you use it and run into issues let me know. I might be able to help and if not we will file it as a bug and track/handle/prioritize it together with the others. As usual look at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpdk for known open issues. I'll add dpdk as affected packet and mark it properly, but let you do the OPNFV bug status updates. ** Also affects: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => ChristianEhrhardt (paelzer) ** Changed in: dpdk (Ubuntu) Milestone: None => ubuntu-16.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1423649 Title: DPDK port on Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/opnfv/+bug/1423649/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1543194] Re: [HP Compaq 6720s] Fan at full speed after suspend
Luckily there are workarounds for this issue for both the old situation(1) and systemd(2). 1) In the old situation (Trusty Tahr - upstart) I found the following remedy that works like a charm: Make a file with the following content (just the way I found in on the internet) read further below the quote: bash script: #!/bin/sh # # Reset fan speeds after resume, otherwise they blow at maximum speed # # Used as work-around for ACPI kernel bug 58301 # https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58301 # # The idea for this fix was taken from # http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1761370 # # Author: fr...@qnipp.com # # To be made executable (sudo chmod 755 AnyName.sh and then to be saved as /etc/pm/sleep.d/AnyName.sh case "$1" in thaw|resume) for i in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device* ; do type=`cat $i/type` if [ "$type" = "Fan" ] ; then echo 0 > $i/cur_state fi done ;; esac 2) But things are changed with systemd. After a proces of trial and error I found the following: step one: Create a file with the following content (read further below quote) : bash script: #!/bin/sh # make this file executable (chmod 755 NameFile.sh) # copy this file to folder /lib/systemd/system-sleep/ if [ $1 = post ] && [ $2 = suspend ] then /usr/local/bin/fansystemd.sh fi step two: Then create a file with the following content: bash script: #!/bin/sh # # Reset fan speeds after resume, otherwise they blow at maximum speed # # Used as work-around for ACPI kernel bug 58301 # https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58301 # # The idea for this fix was taken from # http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1761370 # # Author: fr...@qnipp.com # # make file exectable (sudo chmod 755 NameFile.sh) # To be saved as /usr/local/bin/ (sudo cp NameFile.sh /usr/local/bin/) # this is like the upstart-script only without the first lines for i in /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device* ; do type=`cat $i/type` if [ "$type" = "Fan" ] ; then echo 0 > $i/cur_state fi done ;; esac Make file exectable (sudo chmod 755 NameFile.sh), save as as /usr/local/bin/NameFile.sh (sudo cp NameFile.sh /usr/local/bin/). This is like the upstart-script only without the first lines. This is 100% effective. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #58301 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58301 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1543194 Title: [HP Compaq 6720s] Fan at full speed after suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1543194/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: Description of problem: Ethernet connection gets disconnected at random apparently without any reason. Every time I have to restart my system to get the connection back. + + see: `http://askubuntu.com/questions/615423/ethernet-connection- + randomly-disconnects-after-transmit-queue-0-timed-out` OBSERVATION: It happens more frequently when I make calls in skype or hangout. [Bug 1553044] [NEW] Ethernet Connection randomly disconnects after transmit queue 0 timed out
Public bug reported: Description of problem: Ethernet connection gets disconnected at random apparently without any reason. I have tried the following command to restart my ethernet connection, `sudo service network-manager restart` though it never solved the issue. Every time I have to restart my system to get the connection back. OBSERVATION: It happens more frequently when I make calls in skype or hangout. It seems that heavy usage of Ethernet is causing the disconnection. Debug steps tried so far: I tried to change from `r8169` to `r8168` but never solved the problem, ethernet connection is unstable as before. $ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net 06:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [168c:002b] (rev 01) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:30a1] Kernel driver in use: ath9k 07:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 1508926] Re: [MIR] fwupdate
I reviewed fwupdate version 0.5-1 as checked into xenial. This should not be considered a full security audit but rather a quick gauge of maintainability. - fwupdate helps Linux hosts install and run UEFI-based updates - Build-Depends: debhelper, pkg-config, libpopt-dev, libefivar-dev, lsb-release, gnu-efi, elfutils - Does not itself do networking or cryptography - Does not itself daemonize - pre/post inst/rm looks to properly undo EFI installed bits on uninstall - No dbus services - No setuid files - fwupdate executable in the path - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - No tests run during build or autopkgtest - No cronjobs - Relatively clean build logs - No subprocesses spawned - Memory management is very unusual (e.g. onstack() function) but looks disciplined and careful - File IO sets up EFI boot environments, looks careful - Logging looks careful - One environment variable, looked careful, best to say it should only be set by an admin: LIBFWUP_ESRT_DIR - Privileged operations are privileged by nature of writing to the EFI boot space, variables - No cryptography - No networking - Temporary file handling looked careful - No WebKit - Clean cppcheck, some shellcheck issues - No PolicyKit This code is clean and well-written. I had reviewed an earlier version of fwupdate and reported some issues and had some suggestions; the fwupdate team took those suggestions seriously and addressed everything with aplomb and style. (I didn't investigate each change individually but the end result is clear, the package is clean and a pleasure to read.) Security team ACK for promoting fwupdate to main. Here's the notes I took while reviewing this package, along with a lintian error and shellcheck output: - fwup_set_up_update() lots of work between final fputc() and fclose() -- does this need fflush(fout); fsync(outfd); before the work? - get_fd_and_media_path() asprintf error path should not use "goto out;" because the fullpath variable is undefined (by asprintf(3)). Lintian error: E: libfwup0: postinst-must-call-ldconfig usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfwup.so.0.5 shellcheck output: ./linux/cleanup.in:10:20: note: Double quote to prevent globbing and word splitting.
