server/daily/current/xenial-server-amd64.iso (dated 14th March) and it
still has this bug.

The workaround posted by "andrewsomething" at:

I had another go at it, without success. After checking the status of
the cgmanager service on tty1 (not started), I manually started the
service.

I then logged into the Unity 8 session, but apps were still crashing.

ok, I've walked through all the issues and what's left for unity8 is

* the notifications text being dark on dark (there's a linked branch for this)
* the launcher quicklist going transparent on pressed

The messaging menu is not a bug. Some changes are expected to happen on
theme changes. The TextFiel Component does now have black background on
the dark theme so that's what it is now.

The others (title in settings page & online account login) are not part
of unity8 and should be addressed by the respective teams.

The picture shows a running but "disappearing" gnome-terminal
application,

and the "popul menu" is from clicking the "Search (S)" item from gnome-
terminal, which is disappeared.

In this moment, I am unable to use "Alt+Tab" to switch out any window
except the desktop background and gnome-panel.

I have to goto tty1, and run:

killall metacity; DISPLAY=:0 metacity

to recover all window session.

Using the TAB key it must be possible to focus the Sections component in
the header. The next TAB will go to the next focus item, and does not
change the selected section. To change the selected section, the left
and right arrow keys must be used.

I think Bug-1 is relevant to metacity 3.18, because:


Under Ubuntu 16.04:


sudo apt-get purge metacity-common

sudo sed -i 's/xenial/vivid/g' /etc/apt/sources.list

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install metacity  # to install vivid version - 3.14

metacity -c --replace


Then, most of the above applications (except gnome-system-monitor) will display 
with border shadow.

BTW, do you know why only Adwaita themes is able to display their border
shadow, or how to upgrade light-theme to let Ambiance display it?

As for Bug-2,

Metacity of vivid version works well and exited normally when being
replaced.


As for Bug-3,

Metacity of vivid version never has this "disappearing" problem under
both ubuntu 15.04 and 16.04, I test the fallback version on 16.04 for a
long time and it works well, while purging it and installing latest
3.18.2 comes to get stuck in this problem some time.

1. Looks like preferences window is created as CSD window. This is not
metacity bug - CSD windows are not decorated by metacity. This looks
like problem also in Unity session... I would suggest to not use
Ambiance theme with Flashback.

2. I can reproduce this in Ubuntu session, but I can not reproduce in my
JHBuild session with metacity from current git master and gnome-3-18
branches... Might be ubuntu specific bug...

3. I can not fix this without clear steps how to reproduce. At least can
you get stacktrace?

based lpar ) , use ipmitool console for bare-metal, use mkvterm console from 
hmc for PowerVM based lpar.
#runlevel ; to check the current default run level
#init 1;
#init 3; or ; #exit 

Console access is lost [hung]  cannot regain the console, only solution
is reboot of the server.

I am able to reproduce a bug which causes a kernel panic when the
following conditions are met:

1. Xubuntu 16.04 beta 1 is installed
2. btrfs is used as the filesystem
3. The intel-microcode package is installed after the initial system setup is 
complete

I have got an actual photo of the screen when the crash happens as I was
unable to locate the correct log file where this would have shown up.

We at hypra make accessibility features, and a configuration package suite, 
mate-accessibility.
This bug is seriously jeopardising any attempt at a clean default set of 
relocatable schemas, and forces us to configure each impaired user machine by 
hand, or remotely.
We use compiz, and are currently engaged in re-introducing it in debian 
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=816652).
We aim at introducing the mate-accessibility packages in debian, and flow it 
into ubuntu as soon as possible. For now, this option is unfortunately closed 
to us.

I encountered the same problem trying to update a package (exim4 as it
happens) whose configuration file I had previous modified. muon-updater
just hung "Waiting for configuration file". muon-updater didn't provide
a way to exit it cleanly, so I ended up killing it externally. Then had
to kill two qaptworker2 processes so that the lock on the package
database was released. Then

$ sudo dpkg --configure -a

completed the update.

Yes, it affects me, too, on various machines with different architectures.  It 
appears it happens when I
try to drag a window from one workspace to another using the mouse, but not 
when I use the menu
(e.g. it doesn't seem to happen when I right-click the top of the window, then 
choose
"move to workspace number ...").  

Once, when my screen froze and I logged in from another machine through ssh, I 
noticed "compiz"
was using a large amount of CPU, as if it were in an infinite loop.

well I fixed the two places that I found causing warnings, but maybe
there are more in the less utilised code paths. Though pretty sure I
squished the one that was causing the issues (when accountservice didnt
yet have a language registered)
