lscpumf script is available and does not crash, manpage is available too,
anything further is not scope of this bug. Thus I'm closing it.

[Bug 1564662] Re: Juju binaries should be stripped

2016-04-05 Thread John A Meinel
I tried stripping my 1.6 based build, and it seems to be working. (Juju
does reflection at init() time as part of some of the registries), so it
seems safe to do. On the flip side it isn't amazingly better. It seems
to be a bit less than 2:1. (73MB down to 40MB.) Almost certainly still
worth it, just doesn't compensate for the 1:10 growth of the Juju binary
itself over time.

[Bug 1566437] Re: Scrolling randomly stops working

2016-04-05 Thread Egmont Koblinger
The behavior you describe happens when the terminal switches to the so-
called "alternate screen" upon encountering a certain escape sequence
that is printed by your application. Usually fullscreen applications
(such as the "mc" file manager, "less" pager, text editors etc.) use
this mode.

If it gets stuck in this mode at your shell prompt, it means that your
application did not exit cleanly and left the terminal in this mode.
Execute the "reset" command to get out of this situation.

[Bug 1522261] Re: App Updates rarely download in China

2016-04-05 Thread Matthew Exon
Two points:

1. To both check for and to download updates, my phone should not have
to communicate with any server outside China. It's just the reality
here. Servers outside China may work from time to time, but if you're
providing services to users inside China you have to assume they don't.
If Ubuntu can't provide servers inside China, never mind. There's no
point investigating something we know won't work. If Ubuntu can and
does, then please verify (or give me instructions on how to verify) that
the system automatically configures itself to use them.

2. The secondary problem is that the experience is still not good when
it's unable to contact the servers. I tried it just now. It spins for
a long time and then says "Connect to the Internet to check for
updates". I'm connected to 4G right now. There should be a mechanism
for sideloading updates from an SD card or something similar, because
network failures of all kinds are a fact of life.

So while I think it's interesting if other users in other cities (I'm in
Chengdu) are equally affected by this problem, I just want to emphasise
that it's not really the core issue I'm pointing to here.

Ok, I managed to work out the problem and a solution for the shortcut
keys. Ubiquity is the first part. I now have to finalize the profiles
for mate/GNOME, and upload a new a11y-profile-manager. Once thats done,
the seeds can be updated.

Will post back when a11y-profile-manager is done, likely not today
though, gotta head out early.

*16GB PNY 2133 DDR3 RAM
*ASUS GeForge GTX 750Ti Graphics card
*AHCI Mode

BIOS Settings
Secure Boot off
Fast boot off
CSM - Keep UEFI

Have been unable to install Grub with Ubuntu Studio on this machine.
Able to install with EFI boot directly to Ubuntu, or select alternate
boot device in BIOS to boot to Windows. But when Ubuntu installed -
typically "sudo update-grub" One time and then I have a boot menu that
lets me select Ubuntu or Windows without having to go into BIOS settings
to select my OS.

Have been able to do this with 14.04.4 Unity and some other Ubuntu based
distros but not Studio.

Will likely be able to resolve this issue on my own. I believe creating
the BIOS partition and selecting it for bootloader install caused the
error.

[Bug 1565963] Re: gpg secret keys not migrated after upgrade to gnupg 2.1

2016-04-05 Thread dkg
In the default import process, i don't think i ended up needing to enter
any passwords at all. I can understand why you might need to enter
passwords when importing secret keys that weren't already in your
keyring, in general, but it seems like if being able to import them
cleanly (without password entry) works in one case, it ought to be able
to work in the other too.

anyway, i'd like to help, but without any way to reproduce this
behavior, i'm sort of stuck :(

[Bug 1221815] Re: saucy mir ppa black screen on notebook Radeon HD 6310

2016-04-05 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That would be Xmir 1.0 which we no longer develop or support.

Also, Canonical no longer supports Ubuntu 13.10 in general:
   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

So please upgrade. Although admittedly this bug has been silent for 2.5
years. Just tidying up...
