[Bug 1575467] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs
I appear to have the same problem with my Dell Optiplex desktop machine and my Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition. The XPS is brand new and has been updated to the latest BIOS version. The Optiplex has a somewhat aged BIOS, but I've never seen any problems until now. Both machines have been updated by doing a clean install of 16.04; Kubuntu on this machine and Ubuntu on the XPS. One thing that I've discovered is that the machine can be pinged when it's down, but otherwise the symptoms are identical to those reported above. Entering coredumpctl returns 'No coredumps found'. The problem has been observed when I am typing, moving the mouse, reading text or simply doing nothing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575467 Title: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1568258] Re: Notification-Helper: Request install Flash, but already installed
Hi all, looks like being the same issue on my end. In my case, this is a fresh install of Kubuntu 16.04 LTS. "QApt Batch Installer" offers me to install a "Flash" package for Firefox (I could figure out recently this is actually flashplugin-installer), but systematically fails, without any details available in the GUI. Fed up receiving this installation suggestion again and again, I ended up installing flashplugin-installer manually, which succeeded, replacing btw 2 other packages that were already installed automatically on my machine: adobe-flash-properties- gtk / adobe-flashplugin. I can provide additional information if needed to troubleshoot this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568258 Title: Notification-Helper: Request install Flash, but already installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kinit/+bug/1568258/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1576960] Re: apt-mark prints ambiguous package name
The names aren't ambiguous – if apt prints no architecture it is ALWAYS the native architecture. This is this way for compatibility reasons as apt hadn't previously printed any architecture – because they were all native – so old tools, scripts, processes, … sticking to the common case of single-architecture systems do not need to be touched/fixed. It just happens to be a different convention than dpkg is using – which prints the architecture only if it could be ambiguous, like for all packages marked as M-A:same (Since recently it also shows the architecture for M-A:foreign packages of a non-native architecture, too) and in exchange requires an architecture to be given (for M-A:same) even if it isn't ambiguous [which broke pre-multiarch tools, but most tools interacting with dpkg do this via apt which shielded them]. APT can't operate with this convention as basically every package is available in all architectures, so a package name is always ambiguous and hence all package names would need to be fully arch-qualified all the time. That would be a lot of noise… ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576960 Title: apt-mark prints ambiguous package name To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1576960/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1576353] Re: install openssh-server by default, prompt for enabling it on server iso install
I think I'm OK with adding a low-priority debconf question to disable password authentication. That's a much lower-maintenance solution from my point of view than the various things that have been proposed in the past for disabling the service entirely. The packaged default would be true (i.e. enable password auth), but the server image could preseed it to false. Regarding socket activation, I'd like to draw your attention to this section from openssh-server's README.Debian file. The bit about MaxStartups explains why I'm unwilling to make this the default on servers: Per-connection sshd instances with systemd -- If you want to reconfigure systemd to listen on port 22 itself and launch an instance of sshd for each connection (inetd-style socket activation), then you can run: systemctl stop ssh.service systemctl start ssh.socket To make this permanent: systemctl disable ssh.service systemctl enable ssh.socket This may be appropriate in environments where minimal footprint is critical (e.g. cloud guests). Be aware that this bypasses MaxStartups, and systemd's MaxConnections cannot quite replace this as it cannot distinguish between authenticated and unauthenticated connections; see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=963268 for more discussion. The provided ssh.socket unit file sets ListenStream=22. If you need to have it listen on a different address or port, then you will need to do this by copying /lib/systemd/system/ssh.socket to /etc/systemd/system/ssh.socket and modifying the ListenStream option. See systemd.socket(5) for details. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #963268 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=963268 ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged ** Summary changed: - install openssh-server by default, prompt for enabling it on server iso install + Install openssh-server with disabled password auth by default on servers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1576353 Title: Install openssh-server with disabled password auth by default on servers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1576353/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1576353] Re: Install openssh-server with disabled password auth by default on servers
Incidentally, my reasoning for "true by default" in the package is basically the bootstrapping problem; I don't want this to be a nasty surprise for people with existing deployment strategies. [Bug 1576957] [NEW] apcupsd alerts on every boot: Communications with UPS lost
Public bug reported: The apcupsd daemon sends an email alert "Communications with UPS lost" on every boot followed almost immediately by "Communications with UPS restored". The machine in question is connecting to a remote instance of apcupsd running on another machine. There is no actual problem with the remote UPS or remote apcupsd. It could be the same problem identified in this Red Hat bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=789191 In that case, the problem occurs because the network interface is not up when apcupsd is started. [Bug 1572260] Re: gvfs-smb-browse hogs CPU after only opening nautilus
I don't know if I have the exact same problem, but in my case it is because gvfs-smb-browse tries to access a samba server (first problem is why does it try to contact it, I never browse samba shares) using ipv6 When gvfs-smb-browse uses the whole cpu core I can run a : netstat -laputenW | grep gvfs And see that gvfs is trying to contact an ipv6 address I reproduced it at home (16.04) and at work (14.04, happens since a recent update, did not happen last month for example) : - at home it tries to connect to the samba share of my internet box / router, using its public ipv6 address, so this will never ever work - at work it tries to connect to some co workers windows 10 share, using local ipv6 addresses I have solved my problem by : - at home, using google ipv6 dns, that way gvfs can't get the ipv6 of my internet box and won't try to connect to it - at work I just disabled ipv6 (switched to local link iirc) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1572260 Title: gvfs-smb-browse hogs CPU after only opening nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1572260/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1575651] Re: X stops responding to input on power saving mode
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Once my session has been locked and the screen off, Xserver stops responding to input ( I can still move the cursor). I can re-activate it by typing in a tty "xset dpms force on". If I just lock the screen all works fine. If I just turn off the monitor (xset dpms force off) all works fine. The same system (kubuntu 16.04 64bit) on different hardware (nvidia) has no problem.
