[Bug 1579457] Re: ubiquity must NOT format a valid SWAP partition on manual partitioning

2016-05-07 Thread Etienne URBAH
On manual partitioning, ubiquity systematically formats the SWAP
partition, even if this SWAP partition is perfectly valid.

I can suggest 2 workarounds for keeping compatibility with other
distribution(s) installed on the same machine, whose '/etc/fstab'
reference the SWAP partition.

1) Where possible, use GPT (GUID Partition Table) on the mass storage
unit containing the SWAP partition, and reference the SWAP partition by
its PARTLABEL (which ubiquity does NOT modify).

2) After completion of ubiquity, but before reboot, use the attached BASH
script, which :
- sets the filesystem label of the SWAP partition to a value beginning by
SWAP,
- sets the filesystem label of the distribution root partition to a value
beginning by the distribution name,
- converts the ugly UUID references generated by ubiquity inside
'/etc/fstab' into human-readable LABEL references

In the hope that these workaround suggestions may be helpful.

[Bug 1579457] [NEW] ubiquity must NOT format a valid SWAP partition on manual partitioning

2016-05-07 Thread Etienne URBAH
Public bug reported:

On manual partitioning, ubiquity systematically formats the SWAP
partition, even if this SWAP partition is perfectly valid.

For the SWAP partition, this unnecessary formatting modifies its
filesystem UUID and blanks its filesystem LABEL.

This BREAKS COMPATIBILITY with other distribution(s) installed on the
same machine, whose '/etc/fstab' reference the SWAP partition by UUID or
LABEL.

If fact, ubiquity must NOT format a valid SWAP partition.

- similar to the 3rd item (left uncorrected) of bug #83166
- related to bug #533618

[Bug 1579454] [NEW] Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 installer crashes during either copying files or installing the system steps

2016-05-07 Thread Ilya
Public bug reported:

The crash occurs in both UEFI and legacy modes.
New installation with pre-existing /home on a separate partition.
Installing from the live session results in a crash during "copying files" step

the installer crashes during "installing the system" step.

[Bug 1575354] Re: Can't connect to VPN with openconnect through the GUI

2016-05-07 Thread Mike Miller
Ok, so Viktor's bug is about timeout behavior when connecting with
network-manager-openconnect using an RSA token.

Viktor: Would you update the description to reflect that, and also say
which version of Ubuntu or of NetworkManager you were using previously
when it did not have this problem? You might also want to report this
upstream at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=NetworkManager=VPN:%20openconnect.

Julien: It looks like your bug is different, would you file a new bug
report for your specific connection failure, and provide NetworkManager
debug logs as requested?

[Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless

2016-05-07 Thread Alexander Chepurko
I can confirm that this bug is fixed if you install the latest 15.302
drivers from http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/linux and also
carefully follow the Installer Notes here http://www2.ati.com/relnotes
/amd-catalyst-graphics-driver-installer-notes-for-linux-operating-
systems.pdf.

After uninstalling the fglrx which I downloaded from the repository and
then installing the new ones from AMD I am able to switch to any Virtual
Terminals via CTRL + ALT + F1, etc.

On www.kicad-pcb.org (home)>docs there is no "package", only individual
"One document per application". What do you mean by "install kicad-doc-
en package"? Where is that and how do I install it? What I have done is
to download each application document (PDF).

[Bug 1470862] Re: When using fglrx module, the virtual consoles are blank and useless

2016-05-07 Thread Alexander Chepurko
The open source AMD drivers are not a solution; I was obliged to switch
to proprietary drivers because X/lightdm kept crashing on startup
leaving me only with VTs to trouble shoot. Now with the proprietary
drivers I can't see the VTs.

The open source drivers every once in a while stopped loading the
lightdm greeter. Reinstalling/reconfiguring lightdm and other steps
didn't fix the problem. The /var/log/lightdm logs showed errors
"Segmentation fault" in the x-0.log and "Process terminated with
signal 6" in the lightdm.log.

My system:

[Bug 1579006] Re: No sound since the ubuntu 16.04 upgrade

2016-05-07 Thread Vincent Tarin
Hello,

I renew my Kernel, please see the version given by the Terminal

cat /proc/version
Linux version 4.6.0-040600rc2-generic (kernel@tangerine) (gcc version 5.2.1
20151010 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-22ubuntu2) ) #201604031130 SMP Sun Apr 3 15:32:46 UTC
2016

I must say that while the installation, many error occured. I decided to
boot from the Grub to that new Kernel.

But unfortunately, still no sound...

Would it be reasonable to downgrade the Kernel which goes with a Ubuntu
version which makes my sound works ?

[Bug 1579451] [NEW] Network manager doesn't ask for password in new connections

2016-05-07 Thread mrmarcato
Public bug reported:

When trying to connect to a new WPA-PSK encrypted network, I click in the
wireless icon and select the network I want to connect. Then the wireless icon
suffers a glitch, I'm not prompted a password, and I'm informed that I'm
offline.
There's the first time in 2 or 3 months that I tried to connect to a new
network.
Despite this, in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ there is the file
matching the network I tried to connect, without a psk=... item on it. Then I
edited it, put the password and could connect to the network like if I was
already connected to it.

[Bug 1579442] Re: Its shows an error grub loader cannot be overwrited. By showing this the installation of the OS will stops.

2016-05-07 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that
this could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you

[Bug 1565567] Re: segv in sudo_getgrgid

I've tested 1.8.16-0ubuntu1.1 in xenial-proposed on my xenial install

confirm this fixes the issue I was having. User's commands now execute
as expected instead of a segfault.

[Bug 1534948] Re: Ubuntu 15.10 fails to boot from Sandisk USB stick

2016-05-07 Thread Daro
Christopher,

1) Yes, badblocks scan shows no errors
2) I make bootable USB stick from ISO using dd. I use another USB stick for
that (not Sandisk). After booting I proceed with installation process - I use
Sandisk USB as target as if it was a regular harddrive. Installation proceeds
without problem. Than I boot from Sandisk and this is when the problem occurs.
3) It was few month ago but I think it was ubuntu-15.10-desktop-amd64.iso.

Than I upgraded to 16.04 using update-manager.

[Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started when using ntpdate

2016-05-07 Thread Paul Donohue
Aha! I've found the issue.

/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is called when each network interface comes
up. This happens before network.target is reached, so it happens before
ntp.service would normally be automatically started by systemd.

/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate calls `invoke-rc.d ntp stop`, then it runs
ntpdate, then it calls `invoke-rc.d ntp start`.

`invoke-rc.d ntp stop` runs `systemctl stop ntp.service`, which causes
systemd to cancel the ntp.service start task that was automatically
scheduled to happen after network.target.

`invoke-rc.d ntp start` calls `/sbin/runlevel` to determine the current
runlevel so that it can verify the existence of a /etc/rc?.d/S??ntp
symlink for the current runlevel. However, `/sbin/runlevel` returns
"unknown" because systemd has not reached multi-user.target yet.
Therefore, invoke-rc.d determines that the appropriate /etc/rc?.d/S??ntp
symlink does not exist, so it does not call `systemctl start
ntp.service` to start ntp.

Changing /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate so that it calls `systemctl start
ntp.service` instead of `invoke-rc.d ntp start` fixes the problem.

However, I think I would consider this to be a bug in invoke-rc.d and
not ntpdate, since invoke-rc.d simply does not work properly when
systemd is being used and invoke-rc.d is called at boot time. At the
very least, I would think invoke-rc.d should document that this is
unsupported, and it should detect and report this condition if invoke-
rc.d is called at boot time (rather than just silently failing).

[Bug 1524526] Re: Crashes with undefined symbol

2016-05-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Yes; 22-1ubuntu3 fixed it, but introduced an universe dependency on a
main package. This was referred and uploaded as 22-1ubuntu4, which is
why the changelog entry mentions re-opening this bug.

[Bug 1579436] Re: Version mismatch between kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma in Ubuntu Xenial; kdeconnect severely outdated.

2016-05-07 Thread Tynach
** Description changed:

+ **SEE EDIT BELOW**
+
I was trying to synchronize my phone with my desktop using KDE Connect,
and neither device could see the other. After a bunch of
troubleshooting, I looked at the version numbers... Only to find that
the version of 'kdeconnect' that Ubuntu Xenial packages is the same as
what Wily packages - which is a version first published 2015-02-04, over
  a year ago (https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kdeconnect-
  kde.git=tag=v0.8).

Now, I would be mostly alright with this, as I know packaging everything
up is time consuming and things slip through the cracks. However, the
version of kdeconnect-plasma shipped with Xenial is indicated as
0.9+git20160315. If that end bit is indeed a date (and I'm quite sure it
is), that means it's in fact newer than even the most recent stable
  version (0.9g, released 2016-01-02 https://quickgit.kde.org/?p
  =kdeconnect-kde.git=tag=v0.9g)!

Here on Launchpad, Debian Sid has version 0.9g of kdeconnect packaged,
and it was packaged on 2016-02-06
  (https://launchpad.net/debian/+source/kdeconnect). That was before the
'Debian Import Freeze' on 2016-02-18 according to the Xenial release
  schedule (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/ReleaseSchedule), so it
should have been imported then - not copied from Wily.

I'm not going to mark this as a bug for 'kdeconnect-plasma', as I
believe it is correct for it to be a recent build. What's also odd is
that within KDE's git repository, I can only find the plasmoid for
kdeconnect as part of the same codebase as the rest of kdeconnect
itself. So how these two aren't packaged together (or at least have the
same source package/version number) is beyond me.
+
+ **EDIT:**
+
+ After looking at the two packages, it appears that 'kdeconnect-plasma'
+ is meant to actually replace 'kdeconnect'. It turns out my synching
+ issue was due to 'firewalld' being installed at some point, despite no
+ packages depending on it and me never installing it (that I can
+ remember).
+
+ Removing the packages 'firewalld' and 'kdeconnect' allows me to
+ synchronize my phone with my desktop properly. I could probably leave
+ 'kdeconnect' there, but why? It's just an outdated version of the same
+ package as 'kdeconnect-plasma'. Perhaps it should either be removed, or
+ turned into a transitional package.

[Bug 1489855] Re: kubuntu 15.10 beta1 live usb drops to busybox with persistence PARTITION

2016-05-07 Thread Max
Hi to all,

I actually found the relevant difference between a working 15.04 and a
not working 16.04. In the function setup_unionfs () in scripts/casper
(located in the ramdisk) the sequence of mounting changed from root
partition then persistent partition (15.04) to 1st persistent then root
partition (16.04) for whatever reason. If you change back (simple cut
and paste the section) to the sequence of 15.04 and build then a new
ramdisk you can run 16.04 with a persistent partition.

Removing virtualbox didn't help. Had it freeze today on the login screen
at startup.

Ok...i guess the last thing to do is to figure out how to do the commit
bisect from kernel 3.16.0-70-generic to 4.4.0-21.37-generic in order to
identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first
bad one. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection

...not sure what do yet, but i'll figure it out eventually...

[Bug 1577795] Re: Ubuntu touch Frieza ota-10.1 dropping connection to logitech k810

2016-05-07 Thread Niels Hoilm Frederiksen
I have a m10 and a k810 and a Ultrathin mouse.

I found out that I can only connect one of the to devices. If some other
(mouse) is connected the logitech keyboard K810 disconects/reconects.

Testet with a dell travell mouse and i get the same k810
disconect/reconect error.

Though I can connect both mice and have them working side by side...

[Bug 1208993] Re: Ubuntu slows down and hangs while copying file from/to USB

2016-05-07 Thread snapy
This also happens in 16.04 LTS when moving files. Mouse is very slow.
Sometimes it doesn't move for many seconds.
