[Bug 1579457] Re: ubiquity must NOT format a valid SWAP partition on manual partitioning
On manual partitioning, ubiquity systematically formats the SWAP partition, even if this SWAP partition is perfectly valid. I can suggest 2 workarounds for keeping compatibility with other distribution(s) installed on the same machine, whose '/etc/fstab' reference the SWAP partition. 1) Where possible, use GPT (GUID Partition Table) on the mass storage unit containing the SWAP partition, and reference the SWAP partition by its PARTLABEL (which ubiquity does NOT modify). 2) After completion of ubiquity, but before reboot, use the attached BASH script, which : - sets the filesystem label of the SWAP partition to a value beginning by SWAP, - sets the filesystem label of the distribution root partition to a value beginning by the distribution name, - converts the ugly UUID references generated by ubiquity inside '/etc/fstab' into human-readable LABEL references In the hope that these workaround suggestions may be helpful. ** Attachment added: "Workaround number 2 : bash script setup-distrib-before-reboot.sh" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1579457/+attachment/4658393/+files/setup-distrib-before-reboot.sh ** Tags added: xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579457 Title: ubiquity must NOT format a valid SWAP partition on manual partitioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1579457/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hello, I renew my Kernel, please see the version given by the Terminal cat /proc/version Linux version 4.6.0-040600rc2-generic (kernel@tangerine) (gcc version 5.2.1 20151010 (Ubuntu 5.2.1-22ubuntu2) ) #201604031130 SMP Sun Apr 3 15:32:46 UTC 2016 I must say that while the installation, many error occured. I decided to boot from the Grub to that new Kernel. But unfortunately, still no sound... [Bug 1579451] [NEW] Network manager doesn't ask for password in new connections
Public bug reported: When trying to connect to a new WPA-PSK encrypted network, I click in the wireless icon and select the network I want to connect. Then the wireless icon suffers a glitch, I'm not prompted a password, and I'm informed that I'm offline. There's the first time in 2 or 3 months that I tried to connect to a new network. Despite this, in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ there is the file matching the network I tried to connect, without a psk=... item on it. Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. [Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started when using ntpdate
Aha! I've found the issue. /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is called when each network interface comes up. This happens before network.target is reached, so it happens before ntp.service would normally be automatically started by systemd. /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate calls `invoke-rc.d ntp stop`, then it runs ntpdate, then it calls `invoke-rc.d ntp start`. `invoke-rc.d ntp stop` runs `systemctl stop ntp.service`, which causes systemd to cancel the ntp.service start task that was automatically scheduled to happen after network.target. `invoke-rc.d ntp start` calls `/sbin/runlevel` to determine the current runlevel so that it can verify the existence of a /etc/rc?.d/S??ntp symlink for the current runlevel. However, `/sbin/runlevel` returns "unknown" because systemd has not reached multi-user.target yet. Therefore, invoke-rc.d determines that the appropriate /etc/rc?.d/S??ntp symlink does not exist, so it does not call `systemctl start ntp.service` to start ntp. Changing /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate so that it calls `systemctl start ntp.service` instead of `invoke-rc.d ntp start` fixes the problem. However, I think I would consider this to be a bug in invoke-rc.d and not ntpdate, since invoke-rc.d simply does not work properly when systemd is being used and invoke-rc.d is called at boot time. At the very least, I would think invoke-rc.d should document that this is unsupported, and it should detect and report this condition if invoke- rc.d is called at boot time (rather than just silently failing). ** Also affects: init-system-helpers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577596 Title: ntpd not started when using ntpdate To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/init-system-helpers/+bug/1577596/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579436] Re: Version mismatch between kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma in Ubuntu Xenial; kdeconnect severely outdated.
** Description changed: + **SEE EDIT BELOW** + I was trying to synchronize my phone with my desktop using KDE Connect, and neither device could see the other. After a bunch of troubleshooting, I looked at the version numbers... Only to find that the version of 'kdeconnect' that Ubuntu Xenial packages is the same as what Wily packages - which is a version first published 2015-02-04, over a year ago (https://quickgit.kde.org/?p=kdeconnect- kde.git=tag=v0.8). Now, I would be mostly alright with this, as I know packaging everything up is time consuming and things slip through the cracks. However, the version of kdeconnect-plasma shipped with Xenial is indicated as 0.9+git20160315. If that end bit is indeed a date (and I'm quite sure it is), that means it's in fact newer than even the most recent stable version (0.9g, released 2016-01-02 https://quickgit.kde.org/?p =kdeconnect-kde.git=tag=v0.9g)! Here on Launchpad, Debian Sid has version 0.9g of kdeconnect packaged, and it was packaged on 2016-02-06 (https://launchpad.net/debian/+source/kdeconnect). That was before the 'Debian Import Freeze' on 2016-02-18 according to the Xenial release schedule (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XenialXerus/ReleaseSchedule), so it should have been imported then - not copied from Wily. I'm not going to mark this as a bug for 'kdeconnect-plasma', as I believe it is correct for it to be a recent build. What's also odd is that within KDE's git repository, I can only find the plasmoid for kdeconnect as part of the same codebase as the rest of kdeconnect itself. So how these two aren't packaged together (or at least have the same source package/version number) is beyond me. + + **EDIT:** + + After looking at the two packages, it appears that 'kdeconnect-plasma' + is meant to actually replace 'kdeconnect'. It turns out my synching + issue was due to 'firewalld' being installed at some point, despite no + packages depending on it and me never installing it (that I can + remember). + + Removing the packages 'firewalld' and 'kdeconnect' allows me to + synchronize my phone with my desktop properly. I could probably leave + 'kdeconnect' there, but why? It's just an outdated version of the same + package as 'kdeconnect-plasma'. Perhaps it should either be removed, or + turned into a transitional package. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579436 Title: Version mismatch between kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma in Ubuntu Xenial; kdeconnect severely outdated. Ok...i guess the last thing to do is to figure out how to do the commit bisect from kernel 3.16.0-70-generic to 4.4.0-21.37-generic in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ...not sure what do yet, but i'll figure it out eventually... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575467 Title: [Dell Inspiron 3451] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 1297 at /build/linux-lts- utopic-vy2yyy/linux-lts- utopic-3.16.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1743 vlv_wait_port_ready+0x126/0x170 [i915]() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1575467/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579436] [NEW] Version mismatch between kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma in Ubuntu Xenial; kdeconnect severely outdated.
Public bug reported: I was trying to synchronize my phone with my desktop using KDE Connect, and neither device could see the other. ** Affects: kdeconnect (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: android android-integration integration kdeconnect kdeconnect-plasma -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579436 Title: Version mismatch between kdeconnect and kdeconnect-plasma in Ubuntu Xenial; kdeconnect severely outdated.
