[Bug 1515169] Re: [i915_bpo][SKL-U] System hangs when VGA monitor plugged in
The computer is connected to two monitors to the motherboards DVI and VGA outputs. When I installed Ubuntu version 16.04, i had a problem - after every computer restart VGA-monitor says "going to sleep" and darkens. If I open "System Settings->Dysplays" and click on the monitor that is connected to the VGA, "Switch Off->Apply->Keep Configuration" and then again "Switch On->Apply->Keep Configuration" then both monitors are working normally, but after each restart i have to repeat these steps again. The second option is - on the monitor settings, i set a small "Turn off inactive" time (1 minute) and when the computer is switched on or restarted, I wait while the first monitor (DVI) is "going to sleep" and then moving the mouse wakes up both. But if just turn on the computer and use it then VGA monitor never wakes up. On two different computers with different motherboards MSI A75MA-P35 and the ASUS F1A75-V EVO, but the same processors AMD A8-3870K with integrated Radeon graphics, the result is the same. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1515169 Title: [i915_bpo][SKL-U] System hangs when VGA monitor plugged in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1515169/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1575301] Re: GPU Hang [i915 / drm] crashes whole session; triggered by LibreOffice dialog boxes (regression)
I can confirm this on a fresh install of Lubuntu 16.04 on a relatively new laptop. This bug effectively renders the laptop useless. Libreoffice crashes X regularly (!) and hence is not usable. When I look at /var/log/syslog the culprit is always something like: May 9 20:55:54 kermit kernel: [ 46.807723] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 7:0:0x85fffdfc, in Xorg [812], reason: Ring hung, action: reset May 9 20:55:54 kermit kernel: [ 46.809807] drm/i915: Resetting chip after gpu hang This seems to be a well known problem with the i915 driver. I've tried some of the fixes that people suggest (adding various i915 options to grub like i915.enable_rc6=0 i915.semaphores=0 i915.modeset=1 i915.use_mmio_flip=1 i915.enable_ppgtt=1). [Bug 1574777] Re: tablet connected to monitor shows black screen - Idek Iiyama PL2409HD
Mir does have some code that will throttle proportionally to the advertised refresh rate. That's the 'predictive bypass' optimization. Although even with that you should see a frames every second or two -- something would be on screen. So the monitor reporting (or Mir detecting?) an incorrect frame rate is not the main problem. As shown in comment #6, Mir did detect the external monitor but it was only connected for 26 seconds. The log appears to show Mir notifying Unity8 of this successfully so I'm not sure who is to blame for the image remaining black. One thing you can test right now is the cable itself. The biggest problem we have with external monitors on the phablet is faulty display cables. They are very common. So if you can, please test the cable on a different device, or test a different cable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574777 Title: tablet connected to monitor shows black screen - Idek Iiyama PL2409HD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1574777/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579984] [NEW] Dell dock MAC Address pass through doesn't work in Ubuntu
Public bug reported: Dell systems with Type-C ports support a feature called "MAC address" pass through. This feature allows systems to set a persistent system MAC address to be used with the TB15, WD15 and Type-C ethernet adapter. More information is available here: http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN301147/en This function works by a system specific MAC address (referred to as an auxiliary mac address) being programmed in the factory. When the driver for the type-c ethernet (in dock or dongle) is loaded the MAC address is supposed to be overridden with this value. To enable this in Linux I see 3 parts of the stack that need to be fixed: 1) The value of the auxiliary address needs to be exposed to the OS in the kernel. 2) The "consistent driver naming scheme" needs to rename to the auxiliary name in a udev rule. 3) Network Mangager needs to not reset to the HW address when this scenario is detected. For 1: -- I've added support for bubbling up this information from the kernel into sysfs in: /sys/devices/platform/dell-laptop/auxiliary_mac Through this patch: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9047581/ Here is a sample of what it's output looks like: $ cat /sys/devices/platform/dell-laptop/auxiliary_mac 847BEB5992D2 When that patch is accepted upstream, it will need to be backported to Ubuntu to enable exporting this data. For 2: -- I've got a udev rule and helper script that will do this part. I'll attach it to this bug. For 3: -- Network manager needs to know to reset the ethernet adapter to the original MAC address but rather to this value (if available). As it stands today even with the udev rule in place if network manager is running it immediately resets: NetworkManager[4513]: [1462846115.2330] device (en847BEB5992D2): reset MAC address to 9C:EB:E8:30:B0:A8 squashing the udev rule. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "dell dock udev rule" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579984/+attachment/4659577/+files/75-dell-dock.rules -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579984 Title: Dell dock MAC Address pass through doesn't work in Ubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1579984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This will be done for you if you choose the "use entire disk" guided install option. ** Changed in: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579875 Title: Can't install xubuntu: error occurred while installing grup-installer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1579875/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579820] Re: Installer crashed on Dell XPS 15 9550
Your installation medium contains files from kali-linux. Before reusing a medium, you need to format it to clear off any files from previously used distros/releases. ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579820 Title: Installer crashed on Dell XPS 15 9550 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1579820/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
