[Bug 1585043] [NEW] rabbitmq-server fails to start when /var/log/rabbitmq does not exist
Public bug reported: rabbitmq-server fails to start (`sudo service [re]start rabbitmq- server`) if the log directory (`/var/log/rabbitmq` by default) does not exist. It's a frequent use-case for people who mount `/var/log` as `tmpfs` (e.g. for SSD optimization). The script just hangs forever and does not provide any useful output nor (you guessed it) any log. Running `sudo mkdir /var/log/rabbitmq && sudo chown rabbitmq:rabbitmq /var/log && sudo service rabbitmq-server restart` starts it successfully, though. [Bug 1584635] Re: Black screen after logging in to Unity 8 [std::exception::what: Nested Mir Display Error: Failed to initialize EGL.: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED (0x3001)]
Thanks for all that info. With that I was able to get to the bottom of it pretty quickly: Native Mir servers start fine (see unity-system-compositor.log in comment #4) but clients including the nested Untiy8 server fail to start: std::exception::what: Nested Mir Display Error: Failed to initialize EGL.: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED (0x3001) If you look at the EGL docs, this error means eglInitialize was given an invalid display parameter. And that will happen if the version of Mesa you're using lacks the egl-platform-mir.patch (lacks Mir support). Turns out you're using a custom version of Mesa: 11.3~git160422173900.e85bef8~w~padoka0 which lacks Mir support. So of course Mir clients like the nested Unity8 server will fail to start. Please remove your custom Mesa version 11.3~git160422173900.e85bef8~w~padoka0, and replace it with the Ubuntu-provided Mesa: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa And then you'll have no such problem. ** Changed in: mir Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: mir (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: unity8 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: unity8-desktop-session (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1584635 Title: Black screen after logging in to Unity 8 [std::exception::what: Nested Mir Display Error: Failed to initialize EGL.: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED (0x3001)] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1584635/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1581713] Re: Ubuntu Software asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account to remove a snap
This behavior is consistent with Ubuntu Software Centre. Canonical works with third-party software providers to provide payment and hosting for commericial software in the partner repository. In Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, this is being replaced by the Ubuntu App Store which powers the snap repository's backend. While the command line tools provide access to free-of-charge snaps without issue, the Ubuntu Software store uses Ubuntu One to handle payment processing and order history (so that previous purchases can be downloaded and installed on any number of systems that you own). So this is an implementation detail that matches the behavior of the software being replaced by Ubuntu Software. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581713 Title: Ubuntu Software asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account to remove a snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1581713/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1582982] Re: thermald 1.5-2ubuntu1 failures in ubuntu16.04
Hi Colin, It's called q-fan. It comes with the asus bios. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIBLJ7nG3KM Pardon me if the terminology i use may or may not be correct. Essentially, it has a wizard to tune/calibrate the speed (or voltage) to cooling fans as a function of temperature at different MB location and cpu. They also supply a ASUS Fan Xpert 2 for Win OS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdxlUEG1IZc. I think thermald function is similar to q-fan and fan Xpert2. Questions: 1. Given that thermald cannot read _TRT and _ART, am i correct to say that thermald is not managing the thermal state of my system? 2. Also, does this mean that thermal management in my system is only performed by ASUS UEFI/BIOS with no active involvement from the OS and Ubuntu? 3. Does this mean thermald is a redundancy on my system and I can uninstall it w/o harming my system? Appreciate your advice and help to answer these questions. [Bug 1585008] [NEW] Windows 7 guests hang on bootup when qxl video is used
Public bug reported: I installed libvirt-bin and virt-manager on Ubuntu 16.04. I created a new VM for Windows 7, basically with default settings, which includes qxl video.. The Windows boot process hangs with the "Starting Windows" animation. CPU and disk I/O drop to zero, and it continues animating forever and ever... It never finishes booting. But it doesn't fully "hang" either: the animation continues to animate. As a workaround, I set the video mode to "Cirrus" and then Windows boots but it is slow and limited. And also apparently to be avoided: https://www.kraxel.org/blog/2014/10/qemu-using-cirrus-considered- harmful/ I can confirm it's only when qxl is enabled, because if I switch from Cirrus back to qxl, it hangs again - and going back to Cirrus again "fixes" the problem. This issue is also reported elsewhere: http://serverfault.com/questions/776406/windows-7-setup-hangs-at- starting-windows-using-proxmox-4-2 https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/win7-setup-hangs-in-proxmox- ve-4-2.27388/ ** Affects: qemu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1585008 Title: Windows 7 guests hang on bootup when qxl video is used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1585008/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
