If formatted from the External Drives app, eventually the SD can no longer be

[Bug 1582982] Re: thermald 1.5-2ubuntu1 failures in ubuntu16.04

2016-05-23 Thread Srinivas Pandruvada
_TRT and _ART are optional. If not the algorithm falls to default to do
CPU passive control. The thermald controls are complimentary to was BIOS
is doing. If for any reason of the BIOS controls or fan is not able to
bring temperature down thermald will act, it will work as this will
reduce the cpu power consumption.

[Bug 1585046] [NEW] failsafe x: low graphics mode

Public bug reported:

solution tried:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg lightdm
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg lightdm

finally i checked log file /var/log/lightdm/lightdm.log
it shows that lightdm cannot open /var/lib/lightdm/.Xauthority
my solution:
mkdir /var/lib/lightdm
chown lightdm:lightdm /var/lib/lightdm
and it works

so, why reinstalling lightdm can't create /var/lib/lightdm

[Bug 1585043] [NEW] rabbitmq-server fails to start when /var/log/rabbitmq does not exist

2016-05-23 Thread Michael Baudino
Public bug reported:

rabbitmq-server fails to start (`sudo service [re]start rabbitmq-
server`) if the log directory (`/var/log/rabbitmq` by default) does not
exist.

It's a frequent use-case for people who mount `/var/log` as `tmpfs`
(e.g. for SSD optimization).

The script just hangs forever and does not provide any useful output nor
(you guessed it) any log.

Running `sudo mkdir /var/log/rabbitmq && sudo chown rabbitmq:rabbitmq
/var/log && sudo service rabbitmq-server restart` starts it
successfully, though.

Bug noticed on rabbitmq-server 3.6.2-1 but it may affect other versions
too.

Feel free to ask more information, I reproduce this bug every single
morning when starting my computer ;-)

[Bug 1452427] Re: Cannot unbind s from Expo plugin

2016-05-23 Thread Martin Blais
Also desperate to make this work.
I tried:
- Purging unity entirely
- Using ccsm to remove the binding (Expo, and others, searched everywhere)
- Using gconf-editor to remove the binding
- Using gsettings to remove it

Nothing works.
It's extremely frustrating - I need that key.

Seriously considering ditching the entire Ubuntu experience and running
my own wm as I used to do a long time ago.

[Bug 1585036] [NEW] nvidia-prime with Hybrid/Optimus - does not allow resizing via xrandr

2016-05-23 Thread aenertia
Public bug reported:

When using the Nvidia proprietary option - xrandr reports the valid list
of modes but is unable to set them via CLI or other methods.

However in Unity using the system-settings->display size the screen is
able to be changed.

Re: [Bug 1585008] [NEW] Windows 7 guests hang on bootup when qxl video is used

2016-05-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Hi,

IUC this is not a bug in libvirt or virt-manager or qemu. The problem
is that windows 7 does not ship with the needed qxl drivers. You need
to download those and install them in the windows 7 guest.

[Bug 1585017] Re: lxc snapshot allows a ':' in snapshot name

stgraber@castiana:~$ lxc snapshot test a:b
stgraber@castiana:~$ lxc restore test a:b
stgraber@castiana:~$ lxc delete local:test/a:b

So this all works as expected. If the name may be confused for a remote, then
the remote name becomes mandatory. This is typically "local:" (can be checked
with lxc remote list) and when properly prefixed with it, everything works.

[Bug 1584635] Re: Black screen after logging in to Unity 8 [std::exception::what: Nested Mir Display Error: Failed to initialize EGL.: EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED (0x3001)]

2016-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for all that info. With that I was able to get to the bottom of
it pretty quickly:

Native Mir servers start fine (see unity-system-compositor.log in comment #4)
but clients including the nested Untiy8 server fail to start:
std::exception::what: Nested Mir Display Error: Failed to initialize EGL.:
EGL_NOT_INITIALIZED (0x3001)

If you look at the EGL docs, this error means eglInitialize was given an
invalid display parameter. And that will happen if the version of Mesa
you're using lacks the egl-platform-mir.patch (lacks Mir support).

Turns out you're using a custom version of Mesa:
11.3~git160422173900.e85bef8~w~padoka0
which lacks Mir support. So of course Mir clients like the nested Unity8 server
will fail to start.

Please remove your custom Mesa version 11.3~git160422173900.e85bef8~w~padoka0,
and replace it with the Ubuntu-provided Mesa:
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa

And then you'll have no such problem.

[Bug 1581713] Re: Ubuntu Software asks for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account to remove a snap

2016-05-23 Thread Nathan Haines
This behavior is consistent with Ubuntu Software Centre. Canonical
works with third-party software providers to provide payment and hosting
for commericial software in the partner repository. In Ubuntu 16.04
LTS, this is being replaced by the Ubuntu App Store which powers the
snap repository's backend.

While the command line tools provide access to free-of-charge snaps
without issue, the Ubuntu Software store uses Ubuntu One to handle
payment processing and order history (so that previous purchases can be
downloaded and installed on any number of systems that you own).

So this is an implementation detail that matches the behavior of the
software being replaced by Ubuntu Software.

[Bug 1585017] [NEW] lxc snapshot allows a ':' in snapshot name

2016-05-23 Thread Ron Knapp
Public bug reported:

Package info:

lxd 2.0.0-0ubuntu4amd64
Container hypervisor based on LXC - daemon

on 16.04 LTS

When you create a snapshot of a container with command

lxc snapshot [remote:] [--stateful]

The command allows you to use a ':' in the snapshot name, once the snapshot is
created it
can no longer be manipulated because all the other command treat the : as a
remote reference.

lxc snapshot www nuc2:wwwsnap0

Snapshots:
  snap0 (taken at 2016/05/23 22:18 UTC) (stateless)
  nuc2:wwwsnap0 (taken at 2016/05/24 02:30 UTC) (stateless)

lxc delete www/nuc2:wwwspan0

error: unknown remote name: "www/nuc2"

The only way I could delete it that I found was to update the row in the
container table of
/var/lib/lxd/lxd.db and change the name to a valid one. This was the result
trying to create a snapshot on a remote.

Re: [Bug 1582982] Re: thermald 1.5-2ubuntu1 failures in ubuntu16.04

2016-05-23 Thread SunBear
Hi Colin,

It's called q-fan. It comes with the asus bios.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIBLJ7nG3KM
Pardon me if the terminology i use may or may not be correct.
Essentially, it has a wizard to tune/calibrate the speed (or voltage) to
cooling fans as a function of temperature at different MB location and
cpu. They also supply a ASUS Fan Xpert 2 for Win OS.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdxlUEG1IZc. I think thermald function
is similar to q-fan and fan Xpert2.

Questions:
1. Given that thermald cannot read _TRT and _ART, am i correct to say
that thermald is not managing the thermal state of my system?
2. Also, does this mean that thermal management in my system is only
performed by ASUS UEFI/BIOS with no active involvement from the OS and
Ubuntu?
3. Does this mean thermald is a redundancy on my system and I can
uninstall it w/o harming my system?

Appreciate your advice and help to answer these questions.

[Bug 1585008] [NEW] Windows 7 guests hang on bootup when qxl video is used

2016-05-23 Thread James Johnston
Public bug reported:

I installed libvirt-bin and virt-manager on Ubuntu 16.04. I created a
new VM for Windows 7, basically with default settings, which includes
qxl video.. The Windows boot process hangs with the "Starting Windows"
animation. CPU and disk I/O drop to zero, and it continues
animating forever and ever... It never finishes booting. But it
doesn't fully "hang" either: the animation continues to animate.

As a workaround, I set the video mode to "Cirrus" and then Windows boots
but it is slow and limited. And also apparently to be avoided:

https://www.kraxel.org/blog/2014/10/qemu-using-cirrus-considered-
harmful/

I can confirm it's only when qxl is enabled, because if I switch from
Cirrus back to qxl, it hangs again - and going back to Cirrus again
"fixes" the problem.

This issue is also reported elsewhere:

starting-windows-using-proxmox-4-2

RE: [Bug 1584276] Re: network-manager crashes when changing wireless access points

2016-05-23 Thread MBWD
Thank you Sebastien, but the issue I am reporting is not truly a "crash"
in that a crash report is not generated. Rather, the network manager
simply stops functioning properly and/or responding to inputs. Is there
another way to submit this kind of error? - M.

2016-05-23 Thread w2vy
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

happen to move to the left.
