[Bug 410604] Re: Power Manager reports incorrect battery charge

2016-06-10 Thread Omadas
Jost Noticed this: Currently at 29% charge during a charge, power
manager reports 58min of battery life. Unplugging and plugging in again,
the notification that pops-up reports: 30% and 27min. Every time I
repeat this experiment the popup will report a different amount,
sometime as much as 1hr6min, sometimes as low as the 27min. just shown.
If there are any commands you would like me to run, let me know.

[Bug 410604] Re: Power Manager reports incorrect battery charge

2016-06-10 Thread Omadas
I hate to be a bugmancer and raise this from the dead, but I believe it
is better than cloning the issue (Even if it increases the heat). My
problem is not being solved by removing the battery or any bios setting
-indeed, windows reports battery levels correctly-.

At full charge, a battery that lasts 8 hrs in windows is down to 6 in
Mint (I am ok with the compromise), but the problem is that those 6hrs
are reported to only last a little over 4 hrs by the power manager.
When I let it die and plugged it in, the power manager reported a 2%
charge and 1hr13min of use (which as I type hasn't changed even though
it has gained 10% charge). Obviously, something is not working as
anticipated.

I do work in data entry, coding, and multimedia, so knowing how much
battery life I can expect is important; I would ask that the importance
be upped to medium as a power failure could result in the loss of user
data, or worse (during an update this bug could damage an install). I
would also ask for an elevation of this bug as it has not been solved
for, or addressed in, 5 years.

And a .debdiff for sponsoring for wily too.

I test-built on wily but I don't have a wily install handy to test run
it. The wily and xenial packaging is very similar though. This is all
that was changed during Xenial:

  [Impact]

  Individuals who have abiword and a telepathy-based client (like Empathy)
installed and who have set up their online account with Ubuntu will see Abiword
open a blank document every time they log in!

  Lubuntu is the only Ubuntu 16.04 LTS flavor to ship Abiword and Ubuntu
  GNOME is the only one to still include empathy by default. (Xubuntu
  included Abiword until 15.10 and Ubuntu included Empathy before 16.04.)

  [Test Case]
  ===
  1. Install abiword and empathy
  2. Run empathy

  What happens

  Empathy starts...but so does Abiword!

  What should happen
  -
  Empathy starts. Abiword doesn't start unless you specifically start Abiword.

  [Regression Potential]
  ==
  Low. The Abiword packaging in Debian and Ubuntu mistakenly did not include
/usr/share/telepathy/clients/AbiCollab.client in the abiword package. This has
been fixed in Debian "testing" and Ubuntu 16.10 development.

  [Original Bug Report]
  ===
  I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 some days ago. Not so much problem noticed since
then, but only one (not a fatal one though): abiword - for some reason - always
starts (automatically, without any user interaction) after logging in (to unity
desktop). For sure, I can close it, but it's kinda strange it happens anyway,
and I can't tell why. I could only find the following page which describes
something similar (but I guess it's more on the gnome3 desktop from the OP, I
mean about the "regular" Unity desktop of Ubuntu):

[Bug 1573454] Re: Mouse pointer disappear after suspend in Xubuntu 16.04

2016-06-10 Thread Tim Richardson
I have ubuntu 16.04 as a virtual box guest. If I suspend the system (ie,
close it and save state) the mouse pointer is not visible when resuming.
The switch to terminal and back to X does not work, unfortunately. I
don't recall this happening in 15.10. The bug occurs with virtual box
5.0.16 through to 5.1 beta 2.

This bug was fixed in the package upower - 0.99.4-3

upower (0.99.4-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * UpKbdBacklight: Don't cache the brightness level, always read
it from sysfs. (LP: #1583861)
  * Fix up_client_new() returning an invalid object (that causes crashes on
any operation) when upowerd is not (yet) started. (LP: #1546641)
  * debian/libupower-glib3.symbols: Add new symbol from previous patch.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.8 (no changes necessary).

RE: [Bug 1590843] Re: Ubuntu Installation crashed half way through the installation - during checking for other packages and before making the hard drive bootable

2016-06-10 Thread Rob Mamede
Thank you for your reply. I'm running v16.04 now, but as you noticed I
was running an old version (as I was downloading 16.04 on another system
and using a USB stick to install the much improved 16.04, though I'm not
crazy about the desktop UI I selected - thought I'd try MATE. Since the
installation, I've had only one issue that came and went with a
notification.

 I will continue to send reports when issues occur and I am prompted to
do so.

  I believe this bug was introduced in Abiword 3.0.1 (so it would affect

Applications view and look for Abiword.

  or
  2b. From GNOME (the default user interface of Ubuntu GNOME), click the
Activities button. Click the Show Applications button at the bottom left.

  I don't think other desktops like XFCE and LXDE show the high-resolution

  3. Verify the icon displays correctly without embedded smaller versions

[Bug 1484785] Re: language selector text cut off in abiword

2016-06-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ It is nearly impossible for Abiword users to change or set a document's
language.
+
  STEPS TO REPRODUCE
  ==
  1. Launch abiword
  2. Right-click on empty space in the document itself
  3. Click Set Language

  EXPECTED RESULTS

  I should be able to change the language in that menu.

  ACTUAL RESULTS
  ==
  There is a graphical error (window is cut off) that makes it so you cannot
set the language.
  There is a screenshot of this graphical issue :
http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1439527801.png

  AFFECTS
  ===
   * Abiword version 3.0.1 and on
   * 15.10 Wily Werewolf Alpha and on
   * i386 AND amd64
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ ==
+ Very low. This has been fixed upstream in the 3.0 stable svn branch.
+ The very minimal 2-line patch has been applied in Debian testing and Ubuntu
16.10 (development).
+
+ Patch for sponsorship will be attached to bug 1432271.

[Bug 1432271] Re: [vivid] Abiword always starts after logging in

2016-06-10 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

- I upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 some days ago. Not so much problem noticed
- since then, but only one (not a fatal one though): abiword - for some
- reason - always starts (automatically, without any user interaction)
- after logging in (to unity desktop). For sure, I can close it, but it's
- kinda strange it happens anyway, and I can't tell why. I could only find
- the following page which describes something similar (but I guess it's
- more on the gnome3 desktop from the OP, I mean about the "regular" Unity
- desktop of Ubuntu):
+ [Impact]
+
+ Individuals who have abiword and a telepathy-based client (like Empathy)
installed and who have set up their online account with Ubuntu will see Abiword
open a blank document every time they log in!
+
+ Lubuntu is the only Ubuntu 16.04 LTS flavor to ship Abiword and Ubuntu
+ GNOME is the only one to still include empathy by default. (Xubuntu
+ included Abiword until 15.10 and Ubuntu included Empathy before 16.04.)
+
+ [Test Case]
+ ===
+ 1. Install abiword and empathy
+ 2. Run empathy
+
+ What happens
+
+ Empathy starts...but so does Abiword!
+
+ What should happen
+ -
+ Empathy starts. Abiword doesn't start unless you specifically start Abiword.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ ==
+ Low. The Abiword packaging in Debian and Ubuntu mistakenly did not include
/usr/share/telepathy/clients/AbiCollab.client in the abiword package. This has
been fixed in Debian "testing" and Ubuntu 16.10 development.

[Bug 1591427] [NEW] Installer gives user option to deactivate automatic updates, yet automatic upgrade of security packages are on by default

2016-06-10 Thread Chris B
Public bug reported:

Confirmed in 16.04 LTS and Yakkety Daily.

How to reproduce:
User Ubuntu Server ISO and at the very last question of the installer, answer
"no automatic updates."

Then, after the reboot, check /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
and you will find:

// Automatically upgrade packages from these (origin:archive) pairs
Unattended-Upgrade::Allowed-Origins {
"${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-security";
//  "${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-updates";
//  "${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-proposed";
//  "${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-backports";
};

Since by default the first one is enabled, it will install automatic
updates despite having selected "no" during installer.

[Bug 1585380] Re: foomatic-rip doesn't generate PAGE messages for page_log

2016-06-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cups-filters - 1.9.0-1

---
cups-filters (1.9.0-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
   - pdftopdf: Added functionality for logging pages in the
 /var/log/cups/page_log file. Logging can also be forced or suppressed via
 command line (page-logging=on/off/auto) and page logging is also done for
 filters which should do but actually do not do: foomatic-rip, gstopxl,
 hpps (CUPS issue #4798, LP: #1585380)
   - cups-browsed: Added "Requires=cups-service" to the cups-browsed.service
 file, so that systemd keeps CUPS running while shutting down cups-browsed
 on system shutdown (LP: #1579905)
   - cups-browsed/sys5ippprinter: Fixed documentation about the allowed input
 formats for auto-created network printer queues using sys5ippprinter, also
 improved NEWS entry about renaming of sys5ippprinter (Closes: #819665)

  [ Till Kamppeter ]
  * Added Conflicts:/Replaces:/Provides: foomatic-filters-beh to the
cups-filters binary package due to the fact that the beh backend is now
part of cups-filters (LP: #1563686, Closes: #816700)

  [ Didier Raboud ]
  * Bump S-V to 3.9.8 without changes needed

[Bug 1591418] [NEW] Network doesn't switch from 3G to 2G when low connectivity

2016-06-10 Thread slash
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I've noticed in my flat loosing the network connection to my provider.

I've tested to move in the same room with android and ubuntu.
- ubuntu (in 3G) stays in 3G and lost the phone network connectivity,
- Android (in 3G) switch to 2G and keeps some connectivity.
- Ubuntu (in 2G) keeps some connectivity.

Is it a bug or not developed the automatic switch ?

[Bug 1357093] Re: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full

2016-06-10 Thread Ta
Ok I managed to resolve this issue:

opened file explorer as root using gksudo. I navigated to the boot
folder then manually deleted all the gzip archives ( because I expect
they would not be used).

[Bug 1591415] [NEW] Build errors - might be bogus

2016-06-10 Thread Doug Smythies
Public bug reported:

When compiling the installation guide, there are errors. For example:

Architecture: amd64
Info: creating temporary profiled .xml file...
/home/doug/install/z/en/boot-installer/x86.xml:291: element sect2: validity
error : ID boot-tftp already defined
  Booting with TFTP
  ^
/home/doug/install/z/en/boot-installer/ia64.xml:318: element sect2: validity
error : ID boot-tftp already defined
  Booting with TFTP
   ^

However, and as far as I have been able to determine, they are bogus.
I see them also in the build logs on launchpad.
I have not been able to determine that there is actually any real problem.
I never had this issue when I compiled using a trusty computer, nor do I see
the same errors in the trusty launchpad build logs, but I do get the errors if
I revert to revision 517 (back to an old trusty version), but compile with a
xenial sever computer.

Conclusion: At this point I think, but am not sure, the root issue is in
the compile tools and not the source code itself.

[Bug 1591293] Re: kernel fails to boot from SSD on non AHCI chipset (NCQ unsupported)

2016-06-10 Thread FerVira
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 16.04 64bits WON'T BOOT from a SSD Kinsgton Savage (2016) on chipset
ASUS M2N68-AM SE (2010) with non-AHCI SATA2
  SATA Settings: 32 bit transfers: ENABLED, AHCI mode: not available.
  Fresh installed system FREEZES inmediatly after starting to boot, PC looses
its video signal.
  kern.log does not register anything.

  This motherboard does not support AHCI, but the SSD does. Fresh
  installed 16.04 kernel does not disable NCQ (AHCI).

  Same system will slowly boot with errors when disabling 32 Bit transfers from
BIOS, and freeze.
  Same PC boot ubuntustudio 12.04 live usb automatically disabling NCQ when SSD
is connected.
  SAME SSD WILL BOOT without erros on chipset Intel Pinetrail-M with SATA3 and
AHCI.
  (Same SSD and both PC boot fresh Windows 10 in sixteen seconds without any
issue.)

  Expected behaviour:
- Kernel recognizes that AHCI is not supported by the hardware, and then
disables NCQ because it requires AHCI,
- OR kernel recognizes that NCQ commands are failing and then disables NCQ,
+ Kernel recognizes that AHCI is not supported by the hardware, and then
disables NCQ because it requires AHCI,
+ OR kernel recognizes that NCQ commands are failing and then disables NCQ,
  and by disabling NCQ the system can boot without any problem.

  Real behaviour:
  Kernel only disables NCQ when SSD drives are on a blacklist, but does not
disable it when the chipset does not support AHCI (NCQ). Kernel isn't
disabling NCQ even when NCQ commands are failing. This way system won't boot,
or will boot but then freeze.
+
+ It's not easy to understand why the system isn't booting. Many users are
+ replacing their hard drives with SSD to improve the performance of their
+ not-so-old PC, and if chipset does not support AHCI they will need to do
+ expert diagnosis and tweaks to make ubuntu boot.

  Other tests:
  SATA Settings: 32 BIT TRANSFER: DISABLED, AHCI: not available.
  System boots from SSD with ATA errors and taking some minutes when it should
take some seconds.
  Kernel DOES NOT disable NCQ after failing (it does on 12.04 live, same PC)
  System becomes definetly unresponsive a few minutes after start up, mouse
pointer still moves but does not respond to clicks, and PC has to be hard reset.
  (In the posterior boot, system cleans some orphan inodes for one of the
dm-crypt volumes)

[Bug 1591411] [NEW] systemd-logind must be restarted every ~1000 SSH logins to prevent a ~25 second delay

2016-06-10 Thread Mike Pontillo
Public bug reported:

I noticed on a system that accepts large numbers of SSH connections that
after awhile, SSH sessions were taking ~25 seconds to complete.

Looking in /var/log/auth.log, systemd-logind starts failing with the
following:

Jun 10 23:55:28 test sshd[3666]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for
user ubuntu by (uid=0)
Jun 10 23:55:28 test systemd-logind[105]: New session c1052 of user ubuntu.
Jun 10 23:55:28 test systemd-logind[105]: Failed to abandon session scope:
Transport endpoint is not connected
Jun 10 23:55:28 test sshd[3666]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to create
session: Message recipient disconnected from message bus without replying

I reproduced this in an LXD container by doing something like:

lxc launch ubuntu:x test
lxc exec test -- login -f ubuntu
ssh-import-id

Then ran a script as follows (passing in ubuntu@):

while [ 1 ]; do
(time ssh $1 "echo OK > /dev/null") 2>&1 | grep ^real >> log
done

In my case, after 1052 logins, the 1053rd and thereafter were taking 25+
seconds to complete. Here are some snippets from the log file:

$ cat log | grep 0m0 | wc -l
1052

$ cat log | grep 0m25 | wc -l

  SAME SSD WILL BOOT without erros on chipset Intel Pinetrail-M with SATA3 and
AHCI.
  (Same SSD and both PC boot fresh Windows 10 in sixteen seconds without any
issue.)

[Bug 1357093] Re: Kernels not autoremoving, causing out of space error on LVM or Encrypted installation or on any installation, when /boot partition gets full

2016-06-10 Thread Ta
I followed the workaround steps and they didn't work I removed the only
unused header and it still says its installed?

dpkg: warning: ignoring request to remove linux-headers-4.2.0-30-generic which
isn't installed
rc  linux-image-3.19.0-25-generic
rc  linux-image-3.19.0-51-generic
pi  linux-image-3.19.0-59-generic
rc  linux-image-4.2.0-27-generic
ii linux-image-4.2.0-30-generic <--- i removed the previous good old kernel
and there is still not
enough space. This is an absolute joke. Why was the boot partition given so
little space?

How am i supposed to upgrade my system now. Do I need to backup
everything and reinstall the latest version of ubuntu for a usb?

[Bug 556372] Re: Please remove the plymouth dependency from mountall / cryptsetup

2016-06-10 Thread Serhiy Zahoriya
I don't yet understand how exactly the next two facts combine: 1)
Plymouth is not just a splash screen but required for something
cryptsetup does 2) cryptsetup works just fine without it on many setups

What conditions are required for the cryptsetup to fail in any way when
plymouth package is absent?

[Bug 1577810] Re: Xbox 360 wireless controller LED light keeps flashing after sync

2016-06-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bob, as per the release notes from
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product
/alienware-alpha/drivers?os=biosa an update to your computer's buggy,
insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (A04). When you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does this improve
the situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.
