So to summarize, the only problem is that stopping lightdm does not
change the VT back to 1 or 2 or something sensible, but stays at 7 where
no getty ("login:") is running so it might *appear* crashed?

[Bug 1603719] Re: NFS client: access problems after updating to kernel 4.4.0-31-generic

2016-07-17 Thread Sean
Same issue on this kernel. Cant browse subdirectories that are mounted
hdds after kernel update. Downgrading fixes the issue.

Ex can browse /mnt but cant browse /mnt/hdd1 /mnt/hdd2 etc

If im root i can browse the subdirectories though just not as a standard
user. Verified permission and works fine on a kernel downgrade. After
root user has browsed a nfs subdirectory a standard user can browse it.

Also able to browse the subdirectories if I mount each hdd individually.
Ex if I mount on client /mnt/hdd1 instead of mounting /mnt

I also have this issue with my Lenovo Laptop (Intel Haswell-ULT

The external display is shared with a desktop, every time I switch the
input of the monitor back from PC to laptop, or when the laptop come
back from power saving, some windows go out of screen and there has no
way to bring them back to view except make them maximized.

I have heard reports that this is fixed in upstream qemu. Is it possible
for you to try that?

[Bug 1540702] Re: While resizing Qt apps window contents jitter about erratically (including during animations)

2016-07-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
dandrader:

Unity7 avoids 90% of the problem and is usually smooth resizing the same
Qt apps. Although 10% of the time the bug is still visible in Unity7
too.

So there are two problems:
  1. Qt apps resize much more poorly than non-Qt apps (just Ubuntu Qt apps??)
  2. Unity7 resizing any window is much smoother than Unity8 resizing the same
app.

[Bug 1603296] Re: Unity8 launcher icons look more blurry than they should

2016-07-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

Unity8 launcher icons look more blurry than they should (on a regular
  "low-DPI" desktop).

It looks like the problem is either texture/pixel misalignment again or
just a low quality resampling when the icons are scaled down for the
launcher. They look sharper (and slightly bigger) in the Apps scope.
+
+ For comparison, Unity7's launcher scales down icons without losing so
+ much detail. So clearly Unity8 could do better.

On one hand, I do get it not being part of the plan.

On the other hand, Unity7, Gnome, Windows and Mac OS all have this. It's
an expected "desktop" feature to be able to put things on the desk-top
:)

[Bug 1588126] Re: [regression] [OTA-11] Wifi never connects since flashing OTA-11 (unless you flash OTA-10 first then upgrade)

2016-07-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

I've just flashed clean images of OTA-11 from the stable channel onto a
BQ Aquaris E4.5 (krillin) and a Nexus 4 (mako). In both cases the phones
can see the wifi networks but can't connect to any of them any more.

The wifi networks continue to work for non-Ubuntu devices.
+
+ Explanation:
+
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1593686/comments/11

** Summary changed:

- [regression] [OTA-11] Wifi never connects since flashing OTA-11 (unless you
flash OTA-10 first then upgrade)
+ [regression] [OTA-11] Adding new wifi networks (with long passwords) never
connect at all since OTA-11

** Description changed:

[Bug 1603835] [NEW] Sometimes url and description of the url do not match in the address bar

2016-07-17 Thread Victor Gabillon
Public bug reported:

In the webbrowser, when entering an address url of a website in the address
bar, a list of similar webpages is provided below by auto-completion. The list
is composed of url with a description of the address.
But sometimes (and quite randomly it seems) the url address and the description
do not match at all.

Guess: It seems to happen with websites that I had removed from the
history.

I am denied access to the subfilesystems exported by my nfs server (the
top level filesystem itself is unaffected).

The client is reporting that I do not have the necessary permissions.
However, all was fine until the day before yesterday.

- When I revert my client to 4.4.0-28, everything is in working order
- again. I assume the permission problem is really a bug in kernel
- 4.4.0-31.

[Bug 1303736] Re: [SRU] Black screen after wakeup from suspending by closing the laptop lid

2016-07-17 Thread Dave Mitchell
Dell Inspiron E1505 with Xubuntu 16.04-LTS. The above (#234) did not
work for me. First time closing and opening the lid, two instances of
display settings popped up. The second attempt I got a black screen
again and had to reboot using TTY2 and blindly logging on and doing
[sudo reboot now]. Reinstalled light-locker and changed IgnoreLid=true
back to false in Upower.conf. Still doing the same as #17. Still no fix?

[Bug 842873] Re: Please add static library (libpqxx3.a)

2016-07-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
libpqxx3 will be removed from Ubuntu soon, see bug 1588570.

Obviously, we won't be adding the .a files then.

At least now, I don't think it's true that most Debian devel packages
include .a files.

[Bug 1603829] [NEW] Galera crashes with INVALID/OVERFLOW values for repl.proto_max and repl.max_ws_size

2016-07-17 Thread Kenn Takara
Public bug reported:

When setting the value for repl.proto_max and repl.max_ws_size, setting
the value to an invalid or overflow value will crash.

These two variables are parsed in the constructor for
galera::ReplicatorSMM, thus if the parse of the option fails an
exception is thrown, which then causes the system to abort (with no
helpful message).

Repro:
Set "wsrep_provider_options=repl.proto_max=1125899906842624"

Expect:
expect this not to crash, I would expect an error message and maybe setting the
value to the max/min value.

[Bug 1556260] [NEW] cloud-init fails to grow disk on physical servers with multipath.

2016-07-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

for provisioning ubuntu trusty on baremetal, cloud-init fails to grow root
partition, below is the error.
physical server is HP bl460c blade , booting from SAN and using multipath ,

 - cc_growpart.py[DEBUG]: No 'growpart' entry in cfg. Using default:
{'ignore_growroot_disabled': False, 'mode': 'auto', 'devices': ['/']}
 - util.py[DEBUG]: Running command ['growpart', '--help'] with allowed return
codes [0] (shell=False, capture=True)
 - util.py[DEBUG]: Reading from /proc/1005/mountinfo (quiet=False)
- util.py[DEBUG]: Read 1121 bytes from /proc/1005/mountinfo
- util.py[DEBUG]: resize_devices took 0.003 seconds
 - cc_growpart.py[DEBUG]: '/' SKIPPED:
device_part_info(/dev/disk/by-label/cloudimg-rootfs) failed:
/dev/disk/by-label/cloudimg-rootfs not a partition

upon checking seems like cc_growpart.py script is relying on
"/sys/class/block/device-name/partition" file to check number of
partitions.

but for dm multipath devices , there is no such "partition" attribute
exists, hence script error out saying "not a partition".

I do not have any solution for now, but trying to find how to map multipath
device like /dev/dm-1 to it's real scsi disk /dev/sda1 .. if that's figured
out then we can put some logic to say if base name is dm-x then find mapped
sdx and use that device to find a partition etc.

is this just me or someone else also has this issue with cloud-init
failing on multipath disks.

Re: [Bug 1603151] Re: systemctl isolate anyname.target not working

2016-07-17 Thread Robert M. Koretsky
Martin:
After systemctl isolate multi-user.target, I could ssh into the machine.
Also, after systemctl isolate multi-user.target, then Ctrl-Alt-F2, I could
login on tty2.
Proof that the system didn't hang or crash.
I could then systemctl isolate graphical.target and was back in the
beautiful Cinnamon Desktop!
That's a fix for me.
My graphics card is whatever comes standard on the motherboard of an HP
Proliant Microserver.
I've attached the requested journal log files.
I will experiment with switching to rescue and emergency targets work as
well.
Initially, I was doing the systemctl isolate on a Mint 18 guest running in
VirtualBox. I could ssh into the VirtualBox guest, but couldn't figure out
how to use Ctrl-Alt-F2 in the guest. The above session was done on Mint 18
running on bare metal on the HP.
Thanks very much for helping to solve my problem!
Sincerely,
Robert M. Koretsky
