[Bug 1457472] Re: TPACKET_V3 in Linux before 3.19 causes packet loss in libpcap

2016-09-13 Thread Mike Pontillo
I have tested this on kernel 4.4.0 (in Xenial) and I don't think the fix
that went into 3.19 fixed the entire issue.

My understanding is that since nmap uses a relatively long pcap_select()
timeout, and the packet buffers in the kernel aren't filling up fast
enough, the packet loss can still be seen.

I see that you have worked around this in nmap by disabling TPACKET_v3:

https://github.com/nmap/nmap/commit/83b9c4c939094e673705b7c270533708853891f0

I noticed that another project (which I found linked to the libpcap bug)
worked around this issue by using libpcap's immediate_mode:

https://github.com/teclo/flow-
disruptor/commit/3376d049fc5280aedccc42fc6e090c32c0c4a128

Would you consider trying this same workaround in nmap, since it seems
more general than forcing TPACKET_V3 to be disabled? (That is, only
users who compile nmap from source and use "./configure --with-
libpcap=included" can currently use the workaround.)

[Bug 1573279] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.11-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 during release upgrade

2016-09-13 Thread Alex
My workaround was to edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/mysql-server-5.7.triggers
and to change the invoke() function:

invoke() {
  if pathfind invoke-rc.d; then
invoke-rc.d mysql $1
systemctl $1 mysql
  else
/etc/init.d/mysql $1
  fi
}

I'm running mysql in an LXC container.

[Bug 1616548] Re: Cups causes LibreOffice unittests to loop in a sbuild

2016-09-13 Thread taro-k
Hi, I am not sure this is related or not but let me share:

Iceweasel/Firefox-esr: Temporal freeze when print/print preview
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2016/09/msg00255.html

In this issue, browsers' printing function always cause
temporal freeze where Cups is never installed.
Once Cups (and the related packages) is installed,
no hangs any more even after Cups is uninstalled.

The following is the list of installed packages with the name of cups:

% aptitude search cups | grep ^i
i A libcups2- Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - Core lib
i A libcupsfilters1 - OpenPrinting CUPS Filters - Shared library
i A libcupsimage2 - Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - Raster i

5. XtremIO array paths can be managed successfully:

6. Reproduce steps:
a. Launch a instance(cirros-0.3.4-x86_64-disk.img) with the help of OpenStack
dashboard;
b. Attach the volume seen in step 5 to the instance;
c. Format and mount the volume in the instance, then start IO;
d. Disable a FC port(2 x paths will be impacted) at the switch side;
e. After a while(30 ~ 60 seconds), the file system based on the volume in the
instance will become read only;
f. Restart the instance will clear the problem;
g. Based on the symptom, it seems multipath does not fail over IO of the
instance to alive paths in time.

7. Logs from the host and instance are attached to this bug.

[Bug 1597858] Re: Samba package version 2:4.3.9+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.3 is not compile with CTDB support

2016-09-13 Thread Eric G
I did a diff between the source of the two versions and noticed this
suspicious change in debian/rules:

4.1.6:

--builtin-libraries=replace,ccan

4.3.9:

--builtin-libraries=replace,ccan,samba-cluster-support

[Bug 1623298] [NEW] File roller cannot rename a file inside a .zip file, also cannot delete files in it

2016-09-13 Thread RJ
Public bug reported:

File Roller 3.16.5, running on Ubuntu 16.4.1 LTS 64-bit
When trying to rename a file in a zip-archive, FR shows a message "An error
occurred while renaming the files."

When trying to delete a file (or group of files): "An error occurred
while deleting files from the archive."

In both cases, the zip file is unchanged as a result.
As a workaround (and also a way to confirm that the zip file itself is not
damaged), I use WinZip running on Wine.

Matthew,

Why was this changed to "Wishlist"? Predictable network interface is the
default on Xenial and above which means VLAN support is broken.

[Bug 1623294] [NEW] Black screen on startup after HWE stack update on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS [Radeon R7 graphics]

2016-09-13 Thread James McKay
Public bug reported:

After updating the HWE stack on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, my computer now
regularly boots to a black screen upon startup. I briefly see the purple
screen (but no plymouth), and then nothing. You can hear the ubuntu drum
roll, though, and I can reboot using the alt+Sysrq+B option.

Adding the nomodeset parameter in GRUB offers a solution of sorts, but
the computer boots with Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe graphics, which makes
gaming basically impossible. I can still boot regularly using the
3.16.0-77-generic kernel saved in GRUB.

Other info:

1) I tried an Ubuntu live USB stick with both 14.04.5 on it and then 16.04 and
got the same problem.
2) My UEFI firmware is up-to-date as of 1 or 2 days ago.
3) The kernel in question is 4.4.0-36-generic.
4) Ubuntu release: 14.04.5 LTS
5) I have never installed the fglrx driver—I have always used the open-source
driver.
6) My exact GPU: AMD A10-7700K Radeon R7 (Kaveri).
7) I'm not sure that the dmesg log automatically attached by apport will be
helpful because of the "nomodeset" parameter, so I have attached a dmesg log
grabbed from a failed boot. With guidance, I can do the same for other relevant
logs.

Hope that's helpful!

[Bug 1623290] [NEW] I cannot use my webcam

2016-09-13 Thread Jean-Victor Côté
Public bug reported:

I tried using each of the Nvidia and Xorg drivers in turn. The Xorg
driver seems to work better on startup, but there is an error message
right after that, so I use one of the Nvidia drivers instead. But I
cannot use my webcam with the Nvidia drivers.

must allow for the suid bit to be set. The problem is that people often
have /home mounted with nosuid as a normal security precaution, so this
effects running unprivileged containers as well.

[Bug 1610784] Re: cloud-init openstack.py code does not recognize network type 'tap'

2016-09-13 Thread Scott Moser
Bert, Xiang, could you please test this ?

** Description changed:

+
+ Begin SRU Template
+ [Impact]
+ Certain versions and configurations of Openstack produce a config
+ drive that has network devices described as 'type: tap'. Previously
+ cloud-init would require those to be 'type: ethernet' or other.
+
+ The fix was to allow 'tap' to be considered a "physical" type from the
+ guest VM's perspective.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ * Boot a VM in the reporters environment,
+ * add proposed,
+ * rm -Rf /var/lib/cloud /var/log/cloud-init*
+ * reboot
+ * verify working network and no WARN in /var/log/cloud-init.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This is verified fixed for the user in yakkety, and the fix understood, so
+ likely the fix will work in xenial.
+
+ The regression potential would be if a network_config.json file actually
+ tried to create 'tap' network interfaces and referred to them as
+ type: tap. This would consider those to be physical interfaces.
+ However, 'tap' type would not have been understood previously. And the
+ bug in that case is in openstack for giving non-deterministic configuration.
+ End SRU Template

[Bug 1612313] Re: maas datasource needs support for vendor-data

2016-09-13 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

+ Begin SRU Template
+ [Impact]
+ This is a new feature adding 'vendor data' support to MAAS.
+ MAAS in 2.X will make use of this feature in cloud-init.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ There are unit tests to test this, actual integration test is not easily
+ done outside of MAAS.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Very low chance of regression. Cloud-init will try once to retrive
+ vendor-data and if it is present use it. If not, it will go on.
+
+ The regression possibility would then be in cases when interacting
+ with old maas if the request failed causing cloud-init to fail.
+ In testing of yakkety, this has not been seen to be a problem.
+ End SRU Template
+
+
maas datasource does not support vendor-data.
We would like to take advantage of vendordata in maas, and thus cloud-init
needs it.

[Bug 1616831] Re: cloud-init doesn't prefer new APT config format when old and new are provided

2016-09-13 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

- Trying to use the new configuration format of APT configuration while
- still providing the OLD format, causes cloud-init fails to configure
- APT.
+ Begin SRU Template
+ [Impact]
+ New apt configuration was enabled, but if the user provided both new
+ configuration format and old configuration format, then then cloud-init
+ would error.
+
+ The fixed behavior is to allow new and old and warn if they differ.
+
+ This allows a user to provide the same data for older releases and newer
+ release.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ # Recreate failure
+ $ cat >user-data  "$p" &&
+ apt-get update -q && apt-get -qy install cloud-init'
+ $ lxc exec x1 -- sh -c '
+ cd /var/lib/cloud && for d in *; do [ "$d" = "seed" ] || rm -Rf "$d"; done
+ rm -Rf /var/log/cloud-init*'
+
+ $ lxc exec x1 reboot
+
+ $ lxc exec x1 -- grep WARN /var/log/cloud-init.log || echo no warn
+
+ # this should show us archive used.
+ $ lxc exec x1 -- grep us.archive /etc/apt/sources.list
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The apt feature itself could have regressions, as seen in bug 1621180.
+ This fix specifically relaxed cloud-init's behavior, making it more backwards
compatible. It should not be too prone to regression itself.
+
+ End SRU Template
+
+
+ Trying to use the new configuration format of APT configuration while still
providing the OLD format, causes cloud-init fails to configure APT.

cloud-init should be ignoring the old format if the new format is
  provided to ensure backwards compat.

This is a problem for MAAS provided that we cannot safely differentiate
/ determine what cloud-init version we are using for a specific release
we are deploying, and as such, we still need to send the old config
while still providing the new one because:

  1. Yakkety uses newer cloud-init with new format above
  2. Xenial, Trusty, Precise use older cloud-init that doesn't support new
format.

And this is a problem because:

  1. MAAS won't be able to use derived repositories in Xenial, Trusty, Precise
until this gets backported into cloud-init.
  2. Commission is done in Xenial, while deployment in Yakkety, but both may
require the same config, but it is only supported in Yakkety's cloud-init.
  3. Users may be using old images that may not contain new cloud-init at all,
and even though the release already supports it, the image they are using
doesn't and they have to continue to use the old format.
  4. MAAS cannot differentiate/identify which cloud-init version its being
used, as such, needs to sends both old and new config.

[Bug 1586195] Re: Realtek 8153-based ethernet adapter on usb3 eventually stops working requiring unplug/replug

2016-09-13 Thread zwpwjwtz
I tested following versions of Ubuntu Live ISOs:

- 15.10 (kernel 4.2.0-16-generic)
- 15.04 (kernel 3.19.0-15-generic)
- 14.10 (kernel 3.16.0-23-generic)
- 14.04.5 (kernel 4.4.0-31-generic)

Both 15.04 and 14.10 work fine. But I noticed some differences showed in
dmesg: "eth0" came up directly without being renamed to something like
"enp0s".
