[Bug 1636912] Re: systemd-networkd runs too late for cloud-init.service (net)

2016-11-03 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record: the "hang" was the ~ 10s timeout for IPv6 RA. I was
testing with Yakkety/Zesty's QEMU whose "user" net has a builtin RA (you
get an fec0::* address), while xenial's doesn't.

We enable RA (on the client side) by default, and IMHO should really do
so -- selling a new solution in 2016 which does not speak IPv6 would be
hilarious. You can't also significantly reduce the timeout, as this
would make RA unreliable and it's presumably also a specification
somewhere.

So AFAICS the remaining issue is just to make networkd run before
dbus.service/socket in systemd, and add "After=networking.service
systemd-networkd-wait-online.service" and drop
"Wants=networking.service" in cloud-init.service.

[Bug 1637801] Re: Incorrect Russian translation of "apt list --upgradeable" results

2016-11-03 Thread Martin Pitt
> The correct approach is to have gettext look into the langpack
translations first, and then fall back to the package's translations.

No, it's not. Normal/released Ubuntu packages get their translations
stripped out of the debs. But if you install a backport, third-party
package, or self-built package, you want to see the translation that it
ships, not the Ubuntu translations as they now apply to an older version
only. Hence /usr/share/locale/ must have precedence over /usr/share
/locale-langpack/.

There are just a handful of packages which you need for upgrading and
*installing* langpacks which have their translations built-in, like apt
or language-selector.

[Bug 1639121] [NEW] Alt-tabbing from any wine game will freeze the game in Unity

2016-11-03 Thread Mathieu Comandon
Public bug reported:

When playing any recent Wine game while not using a Virtual Desktop in Wine,
using alt-tab to switch to another application will completely freeze the
game's graphics. This has recently been noticed with Darksiders 2 and Paladins.
There are a few games that won't crash when switching but those are a minority.

When using Gnome Shell, the freeze does not occur when switching from
the game.

[Bug 1638769] Re: Need more information from account manager

2016-11-03 Thread Michi Henning
Thanks Mardy!

Passing icon data over DBus would be sub-optimal, yes. For clicks, I
don't think we'd have a problem with the app resolving the icon name. (I
assume that the default apparmor profile for apps will allow this.) I
don't know what the story will be for snaps. Presumably, there will be
some interface that apps are allowed to use to retrieve icons?

2016-11-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1279762 ***

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to
be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1637841] Re: Today scope refresh not always working on MX4 with OTA 13

Thanks for all the detective work!

I suspect that the MiddlewareException in coincidental and caused by an
earlier timeout. But we shouldn't get stuck like this and things should
recover transparently if the network goes away. I'll have a look and see
what's going on.

encountered this today. Resulted in an "information available" window opening

go away, even after applying the fix at bottom)
Information available dialogue is as follows:
Failure to download extra data files
The following packages requested additional data downloads after package
installation, but the data could not be downloaded or could not be processed.
ttf-mscorefonts-installer
The download will be attempted again later, or you can try the download again

The following steps succeeded and installed the troublesome

[Bug 1532944] Re: flashplugin-installer shows a warning after downloading the file with apt 1.1.x

2016-11-03 Thread Evan Carroll
How is this not an error? Getting this in 16.10. If we can't write to
the directory, why is that? We didn't do anything? Who set the perms
wrong. And, if they are wrong why does the package proceed to tell us it
worked... "Installing from local file" (when there file isn't there) and
then "Flash Plugin installed." There is nothing in that directory.
Nothing was installed. It didn't work. Status messages are not status
messages when they assume success.

Please reopen. This is a overzealous closing.

The issue with the automatically assigned device URI reminds me of bug

printers are harder to install on Ubuntu than other printers.

[Bug 1638565] Re: HP Envy 34c resolution maxes out at 1920x1200

2016-11-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Since your system has hybrid graphics (both Intel and Nvidia GPUs) it's
unclear which monitor connectors are connected to which GPU. The answer
varies between laptop models...

If we assume the answer is that your HDMI port is connected to the Intel
GPU (which would be pretty normal) then this is a duplicate of bug
1606103.

If your HDMI is connected directly to the Nvidia GPU then that's an
Nvidia bug.

2016-11-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yep, Xorg.log seems to suggest the HDMI port is on the Intel output. So
possibly a duplicate of bug 1606103. Although I would not have expected
going back to kernel 4.4 would help (!?).

[Bug 1630272] Re: The "Official Documentation" for Ubuntu 16.04 does not include correct instructions on installing Printers.

2016-11-03 Thread Pete
I apologize in my delay in replying. I tested the printer instructions
you provided under Ubuntu 16.04.

In the beginning of the instructions for 16.04 it says:

“You do not need to select whether you want to install network or local
printer now. They are listed in one window.”

I actually have to choose “Network” to proceed. I think the
instructions for 17.04 are better, and work for 16.04 as well, but
neither instructions work without a few changes in the process. See
process below.

Using your instructions as a base, here is what I had to do. I confirmed
this process on three machines running Ubuntu 16.04, using the same
network printer. Perhaps others can confirm.

Below are my instructions, note: step 4 is edited, and step 5 is an
additional step.

--

To set up a network printer:

1. It's assumed that the printer is connected to your network. Click the icon
at the far right of the menu bar and select System Settings.
2. Open Printers.
3. Click Add.
4. Click “Network”. If your printer is listed in the Devices list, select it;
otherwise if you know the printer's IP address, select Find Network Printer,
enter the IP address in the Host field, and click Find.
5. Once you select your printer the HOST field may be auto-populated with
information based on your selected printer (example: “BRN30055C829554”). Delete
this and enter your printers IP Address.
6. Click Forward and wait while the system searches for drivers.
7. You can customize the printer's name, description, and location if you like.
When finished, click Apply.
8. You can now print a test page or click Cancel to skip that step.

--

Explanation:

If I accept all defaults when installing the network printer via the
GUI, the GUI auto populates my HOST field with “BRN30055C829554” (for my
Brother network printer). It then appears to grab an acceptable driver
and install the printer successfully. The printer appears in the
printers section but no jobs print.

Note: I noticed the wizard automatically assigns the Device URI:
"lpd://BRN30055C829554/BINARY_P1".

When I manually changed the "Device URI" to "http://192.168.1.20/; the
printer printed successfully. However I could not just enter the IP
address (192.168.1.20) directly, I had to enter in the "htt:///"

Alternately I could also select the printer properties (*after
installation), and in the GUI next to "Device URI" select "Change". Here
I have to wait a second, then I get the option to change the "HOST"
field. If I enter the printer IP "192.168.1.20" and save settings, the
device ID field changes to "lpd://192.168.1.20/BINARY_P1". I can then
successfully print a test page.

Basically it appears when letting the Ubuntu printer wizard GUI select
the printer port/Device-UI it doesn't do it correctly (*non IP).
Printing fails. You must manually enter the devices IP address. I have
found no other way to get this to work. I confirmed this behavior on
several machines. Perhaps others here can test and confirm this.

For users who know their printers IP address (and its set to STATIC)
this method should work always. It appears though that printing to the
printer MAC or Device URI it auto detects and populates does not work. I
don't know if this is a bug, or a limitation.

I See these interfaces on Windows printer Ports for clients a lot (that
way a user doesn't have to specify an IP address), which is nice if a
user is someone who is non-technical and doesn't know the printer
address. However for me this auto-detect wizard doesn't work with out
specifying the IP.

If the IP must be specified perhaps the directions may need to clarify
that.

sad seeing this fixed in Ubuntu only.

Thanks!

Julian, it protects the kernel currently booted at the time of running
