[Bug 1640290] Re: Update Qt to 5.7

2016-11-08 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Note that in Debian we had to rush with a snapshot because of the
transition freeze. In Ubuntu it would make sense to at least wait until
5.7.1 final release.

[Bug 1640290] Re: Update Qt to 5.7

2016-11-08 Thread Timo Jyrinki
I unfortunately won't have time to properly work on this until January,
so help is welcome if you want to populate the PPA earlier. Qtbase is
now done, which is the biggest module, but all others and fixing the
builds of reverse dependencies is pending.

Thanks to my earlier started 5.7.0 work updating to 5.7.1 might not be
too problematic. 5.7.0 showed initially lots of problems, hopefully
5.7.1 fixes the upstream problems.

In addition to the packages in Debian, Ubuntu has the twin -gles Qt
module packages, ubuntu-ui-toolkit, ciborium, unity8 etc which are
needed to work before publishing the PPA to archives, as well as
autopkgtests.

00:30:13 EvenR: you can try to define GDAL_SKIP=DODS as environment variable
00:32:02 transit: EvenR: That eliminates the segfault.
00:32:14 transit: EvenR: Still worth reporting?
00:33:54 EvenR: transit: perhaps report to the packagers. I'd recommend them
to disable the DODS driver in their builds

That's not very informative.

I've inquired about the state of the DODS driver, before I can decided
to disable it or not:

[Bug 1634220] Re: Wallpaper does not resize correctly when adding external display

2016-11-08 Thread Andreas Büsching
It looks like it is related to the positions of the two displays to each
other. I normally like the internal display to be below the external
one. By default it tries to layout the display next to each other. When
adding the external display I can see the wallpaper twice on the
external display. On the left the small one that should probably be
shown on the internal display and on the right side the large one that
should normally be used for the external display. After a few moments
the large one is shown on the exeternal display and the internal display
has a black background. When I switch to the virtual desktop on the
right side I do see the small wallpaper in the top left corner
surrounded by the flickering.

This happens 100 % times. MD5 of hplip-3.16.10.run is
1a4adcc0f84b4daa984336b6403b7bb2 for check. Please note that the issue is about
the feedback after the failure (confusing return code and no information at
all) and not about the failure itself.

I guess you're using the gdal packages from the UbuntuGIS PPA, since
Ubuntu itself doesn't have 2.1.0.

Can you provide a link to the IRC discussion or otherwise provide more
motivation why the DODS driver should be disabled now. It has been
enabled for a very long time, so I'm surprised Even now recommends
disabling it.

I think that logically, if XMir is provided in the default image, the

included by default as well. They don't even weight anything, couple

[Bug 1447909] Re: external mic not detected on machines with alc256 codec

2016-11-08 Thread Hui Wang
They are different, on Dell laptop, the audio jack can detect the
headphone plug/unplug, this is the pre-condition for fixing the headset-
mic problem.

But on your Asus laptop, the audio jack can't detect any plug/unplug, so
even apply the same fix to this machine it will not work.

[Bug 1196584] Re: Please update package fonts-liberation to version 2.00.1

2016-11-08 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This was fixed by packaging version 2 as fonts-liberation2 in Ubuntu
17.04 Alpha.

This is because the changes in version 2 are controversial and some
people prefer the older version.

** Package changed: fonts-liberation (Ubuntu) => fonts-liberation2
(Ubuntu)

   Status: Triaged => Fix Released

[Bug 1639371] Re: OpenGL Graphics broken on November 4th upgrades

2016-11-08 Thread Tim Wescott
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected third-party-packages trusty

** Description changed:

First: I don't know if I'm reporting this against the correct package.
The bug report system needs a "unknown package" reporting system, for
people who aren't freaking IT experts yet who are still smart enough to
  notice a real live problem.

I have a Radeon card, but things most definitely broke TODAY immediately
after I did a software upgrade.

I use Scilab, which uses OpenGL heavily. After today's upgrade, it was
  unable to display graphics, reporting

"Caused by: javax.media.opengl.GLException: Profile GL_DEFAULT is not
  available on X11GraphicsDevice[type .x11, connection :0.0"

The symptom in Scilab was that the graphics window opened, but no graph
was drawn upon it. glxinfo is unable to find an RGB visual; I assume
that means that GL is broken -- glxinfo certainly works just fine on
another machine upon which Scilab also works just fine.

  ubuntu-drivers devices returns

driver : xserver-xorg-video-ati - distro free builtin recommended
  driver : fglrx - distro non-free

As near as I can tell, the xserver-xorg-video-ati is installed. I have
not attempted to change over to fglrx.

  glxinfo returns:

[Bug 1630272] Re: The "Official Documentation" for Ubuntu 16.04 does not include correct instructions on installing Printers.

2016-11-08 Thread Pete
Hi Chris,

I just tested the updated instructions tonight on another Ubuntu 16.04
system.

Your instructions on 17.04 appear correct and work for 16.04. But this
is assuming the printer Device URI is created correctly. If it doesn't
though (as in my case) the user may have to manually change that to the
IP address. So it may be worth adding this into the instructions.
Something to the effect "If the printer fails to print, and you know
your Printers IP address change your Device URI / Host Name" (Printer >
Right-click > Properties > Device URI, click "Change"). This will save
users a lot of time looking online on a work around.

Don't honestly know how the auto-assigned Device URI is supposed to
work. I assume its based on a broadcast name of the printer.

However, if its useful to you, I have attached a PDF of my installation,
including screenshots as an example.

Also Gunnar is probably correct in this is similar to this bug #1320381
(linked above). So I am going to try these instructions with some other
printer models and post back if the printer Device URI is correctly
identified. It may be a few days before I have access to addition
printers however.

Thanks!

Check to see if you have an _apt user:

cat /etc/passwd | grep apt

_apt:x:105:65534::/nonexistent:/bin/false

If you do, no need to add the user. Otherwise,

adduser --force-badname --system --home /nonexistent --no-create-home
--quiet _apt || true

I haven't verified that it creates precisely the user necessary. If I
remember correctly, /bin/false means no shell access so make sure the
user created does in fact have /bin/false in passwd. Also it has no
group (65534). That is it really.

Finally check the directory situation:

ls -la /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/

drwxr-xr-x 2 _apt root 4096 Nov 9 10:23 partial

As you can see "_apt" is properly listed as the owner. If not,

sudo chown _apt /var/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloads/partial/

My system already had an _apt user, but did not have proper directory
permissions. At least, I have to assume that this is a proper fix. If
not, somebody more knowledgeable should be speaking up and sorting this
out...

Also, I notice your hardware is AMD graphics but you have the Nvidia

If you don't need it, try to remove/avoid installing the Nvidia driver.

[Bug 1640360] [NEW] segfault on gdal.OpenEx() call

2016-11-08 Thread Jivan Amara
Public bug reported:

With both libgdal20 & python-gdal at version 2.1.0 the following snippet
will recreate:

import gdal
filename =
'http://sampleserver3.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Hydrography/Watershed173811/FeatureServer/0/query?where=objectid3D+objectid=*=json'
data = gdal.OpenEx(filename)

Defining the environment variable GDAL_SKIP=DODS eliminates the
segfault.

Speaking with EvenR on #osgeo; he recommends that the DODS driver be
disabled in the builds.

Details:
Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
libgdal20 2.1.0+dfsg-1~xenial0
python-gdal 2.1.0+dfsg-1~xenial0

Expected:
ERROR 4: Failed to read GeoJSON data
Actual:

This bug is about my Gateway M1629 not shutting down screen stops at reached
. I can reproduce it every time. I also have a problem with booting up ( may be
related) that has to do with the timing. If I click on ubunto LTS in grub
screen it boots to a black screen. But if I make it wait by clicking on boot
options and then back to ubuntu it boots fine!
The bug about hanging was reported so many times. I am not sure if is the
kernel or the bios? too many answers but never one fix! can someone help please?

[Bug 1621507] Re: initramfs-tools configure_networking() fails to dhcp ipv6 addresses

2016-11-08 Thread Scott Moser
I just had the thought.. is there any reason that we are using dhclient
for ipv4 rather than leaving the old path in place entirely for ip= ?

If we just change back to letting klibc's ipconfig take care of the ipv4
dhcp, then that resolves my 'b' and 'c' (for the ipv4 case).

We can then also go back to the original test for "done" of just
checking for presense of /run/net-"$DEVICE".conf to idnicate ipv4 is
done. All in all, the change to taking 'ip6=' on the command line makes
it fairly easy to ensure we do not regress the ipv4 use case.

[Bug 1634802] Re: Could not insert module

2016-11-08 Thread Scott Cowles Jacobs
I installed the fix from zesty, and it loads into the kernal fine, and I
can set the resolution that I want.

However...

Since before now I could not get nvidia-304 to work, I had been using nouveau.
I had been able to start the panorama program Hugin, but when I tried to open
the images to stitch together, the graphics driver nouveau crashed and I had to
do a hard-shutdown.

Now that I have a working nvidia-304, Hugin crashes with some sort of a
x-window error when it tries to start up.

"
The program 'hugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 541 error_code 2 request_code 154 minor_code 24)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
"

I don't know if it is the mere presence of nvidia-304, or THIS PARTICULAR
nvidia-304. I don't know if it is the FIX that caused it, or something else.
I can see that the version of nvidia-304 that I had been using under Lubuntu
16.04 (and which I used with Hugin with no problem) was 304.131xxx instead of
.132.

>From this output, can anyone say if it is a bug in nvidia-304, or Hugin that
>is
the problem?

Say...

I see that there is a .131 for Xenial Xerus. at the same site I got the fixed
.132 ...
Does anyone think there is likely to be a problem if I try to load that version
of nvidia-304?
I am inclined to try it...
