2016-11-17 Thread calexil
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected sarah third-party-packages

** Description changed:

whether or not extensions are enabled, after an indeterminate amount of
time chromium locks up(tabs are still rendered but browser cannot create
new tabs, or navigate in existing ones) and the main process begins
using 200-270% of my three cores, chrome task manager shows that no tab
is using any memory and when chromium is exited the main thread does not
  quit and must be killed.

I have reinstalled, disabled extensions/plugins, etc... nothing seems to
  remedy this issue.

[Bug 1585863] Re: WiFi malfunction after suspend & resume stress - sudo wpa_cli scan required to fix it.

2016-11-17 Thread JaSauders
I'm surprised this is still a thing. I added the common systemd "restart
network-manager on resume" script most folks with this issue have used.
I added it quite a while ago. My system has been working consistently
since then without issue... to the point I actually forgot that this bug
existed.

I understand the burning desire to fix the problem at hand, but months
(soon to be a year) later, this issue still exists. I don't see the
trade-off/downsides/consequences with this work-around being applied. If
a downside does exist, I haven't seen it, but what I have seen is the
benefit of it being in place as it circumvents this issue entirely.

Sorry - I just don't see the point of this bug trailing on longer and
longer while users unaware of the "restart network-manager on resume"
fix continue to deal with the headache, while on the other hand, had
that work-around been issued, folks wouldn't be as angry about this
issue as they clearly are.

[Bug 1640000] Re: kidle_inject overly onerous, fans never used on MacBookPro12, 1

2016-11-17 Thread Richard
I have it both on a MacBook Air 2011 11" and a MacBook Pro 2015 13"

This is a bug in 16.10
It did not exist in 16.04
It appears to be for ALL 16.10 kernels to date, ie. from 8/27/2016 onwards

MacBook Pro:
uname --kernel-release --kernel-version
4.8.0-27-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 20 21:03:13 UTC 2016

MacBook Air:
uname --kernel-release --kernel-version
4.8.0-27-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 20 21:03:13 UTC 2016

It is triggered by not high temperture but some flawed conclusions
Once kidle_inject launch they eat 50% of available cpu power forever

Perhaps it is triggered by watching flash video from cnn in Chromium

syslog when triggered:
grep powerclamp /var/log/syslog
Nov 17 10:04:22 c89 kernel: [82843.821614] intel_powerclamp: Start idle
injection to reduce power

reading temperatures on MacBook Pro:
sensors | egrep "^(Right|Core|TCGC|TB0T)"
Core 0: +69.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 1: +68.0°C (high = +105.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Right Side : 3097 RPM (min = 1299 RPM, max = 6199 RPM)
TB0T: +36.8°C
TCGC: +71.0°C
- the TCGC is GPU which is what supposedly should trigger about 85 °C

Fix to next reboot:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1389077/comments/6
rmmod intel_powerclamp

Across reboot fix:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1389077/comments/12

Just another bug in i915. Don’t expect a fix anytime soon, so just
disable if it happens to your computer

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

** Summary changed:

- kidle_inject overly onerous, fans never used on MacBookPro12,1
+ i915 intel_powerclamp consuming 50% cpu kidle_inject

Corruption no longer visible with 4.4.0-49-generic:

FWIW, I wouldn't in general expect valgrind to be useful with a go program.
The Go runtime manages its heap in a totally different way to a C program.

[Bug 1017678] Re: Duplicate entries in grub2 menu for second ubuntu installed on another partition

2016-11-17 Thread Emerson1000
Confirming the behaviour stated by axeoth on 2012-09-26.

For some reasons, existing grub.cfg files on other partitions seem to
completely fool the update-grub scripts on other partitions (more
precise, the linux-boot-order script).

The problem still exists with Xenial Mate uname -a:

Linux x12 4.4.0-47-generic #68-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 26 19:39:52 UTC
2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Even confirmed, that os-prober gets fooled by a grub.cfg file on a non-
system partition that contains a partial backup of a system partition
(here: complete directory /boot)!

[Bug 1636890] Re: invalid file times with overlayroot and encrypted home

2016-11-17 Thread Seth Forshee
I've reproduced this in a vm (more or less, my timestamps are different
but still wrong, but I'm guessing that's just due to different timezone
configurations).

Some relevant entries from /proc/mountinfo:

24 26 8:1 / /media/root-ro ro,relatime shared:2 - ext4 /dev/sda1 ro,data=ordered
25 26 0:20 / /media/root-rw rw,relatime shared:3 - tmpfs tmpfs-root rw
26 0 0:21 / / rw,relatime shared:1 - overlayfs overlayroot
rw,lowerdir=/media/root-ro,upperdir=/media/root-rw//overlay,workdir=/media/root-rw//overlay-workdir
101 26 0:43 / /home/ubuntu rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime shared:80 - ecryptfs
/home/ubuntu/.Private
rw,ecryptfs_fnek_sig=8123544c12013d26,ecryptfs_sig=de2cdf716df70cde,ecryptfs_cipher=aes,ecryptfs_key_bytes=16,ecryptfs_unlink_sigs

So, the original root is mounted at /media/root-ro, and there's a tmpfs
at /media/root-rw which holds the overlayfs work and upper directories.
/ is an overlayfs mount, and the encrypted files for my homedir are
stored in /home/ubuntu/.Private (which is a symlink to
/home/.ecryptfs/ubuntu/.Private).

What I see is that only the files in the root of the ecryptfs mount
which come from the lowerdir have incorrect timestamps. A directory I
created before enabling overlayroot has the correct timestamp, and two
files in that directory also have correct timestamps. New files created
in the directory (which thus exist only in the upperdir) have the
correct timestamp, however if I modify a file created before overlayroot
was enabled the timestamp remains incorrect, and even does so if I
remove and create a file of the same name.

The timestamps in /home/.ecruptfs/ubuntu/.Private are all correct. I'm
guessing that ecryptfs takes timestamps from the lower directory inodes,
so my hunch is that this is a problem in ecryptfs.

This looks fatal on 16.04 for repartitioning, due to sfdisk changing

This is addressed in https://bugs.launchpad.net/cloud-init/+bug/1460715
which is not upstream yet in cloud-init, and trivially not in the cloud-

[Bug 1466150] Re: grub-install breaks when ESP is on raid

Hi! I have same issue. We are running Ubuntu 16.04 on our servers,
/boot/efi is on /dev/md0 (which is raid1 metadata 0.90 array of 4 little
partitions, each on the beginning of one of the 4 disks)
System boots normally, but I believe that is because the EFI entries were
created before, when the partitions were not in the mirror. Or maybe BIOS
detects them somehow!

[Bug 1642383] Re: Unable to configure swap space on ephemeral disk in Azure

2016-11-17 Thread Ryan Harper
Attempting to re-run the specific config on an existing Trusty instance:

1) sudo umount /mnt
2) sudo vi /etc/fstab and remove /mnt entry, save, quit
3) write out #cloud-config from this bug to user-data.cfg
4) sudo cloud-init --files user-data.cfg single --name cc_disk_setup
--frequency always
5) sudo cloud-init --files user-data.cfg single --name cc_mounts --frequency
always

This correctly creates the partitions, links, mounts and fstab entries. Now to
test
why this appears to fail during initial boot.

then most likely you need to activate your -update repositories.

[Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-11-17 Thread Robie Basak
I can reproduce this fairly reliably (~50%) if my phone hasn't been used
in a while. Enough that I've caught a video of it doing it. media-
hub.log attached.

If I unlock the phone and go into the sound settings (from the sound
indicator), then turn the screen off, then the phone reliably doesn't
fail a second time.

I believe there's some race associated with slow I/O. Perhaps it happens
if relevant code paths need to be swapped in on an incoming call? I also
believe this is a regression in the last or previous OTA.

Please ping me on IRC (rbasak) if I can help further with debugging
this.

[Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-11-17 Thread Anupam
This part from the description of bug #1642635 sounds interesting:
"It seems to me that this is most likely to happen if I haven't used the phone
in a while. If I answer the call (because I notice the screen) or make a call,
testing immediately after the phone does seem to consistently ring."

I experienced the same. Once I couldn't pick up the call because of no
ringtone. Then I called the same person after ~5 minutes and asked them
to call me back in an attempt to reproduce the issue. They called after
~5 minutes, but that time the ringer worked fine. Also as I mentioned in
comment #18, I got two calls within ~1 minute. First one didn't ring,
but the second one rang.

[Bug 1629360] Re: nautilus hides behind desktop

2016-11-17 Thread David Finder
** Description changed:

- Nautilus will hide "behind the desktop" after opening certain files,
- video files with VLC being the primary offender.
+ standard Nautilus file windows will hide and be unable to be accessed
+ after opening any file, or clicking any other window. The only way to
+ get these windows to be reselectable is either to press alt-tab after
+ closing all other windows, triggering the restore window option, or to
+ restart unity, but the windows, while visable, still aren't properly
+ selectable.

+ The nautilus icon won't glow under basically any circumstances. If you
+ open up a nautilus instance, the icon will flash-on-load like any other
+ window, but it won't remain colored.

- These folders re appear if one closes all windows and presses alt tab,
triggering the "Restore windows" option.
+ The net effect of this, is that every time I want to open a file through
+ nautilus, I have to open up a new instance of nautilus.

- Additionally, such folders will not register as having Nautilus open for
- the unity side bar, and attempting to press the icon on the side bar
- does nothing.

  Ubuntu version:16.04
  Nautilus version:1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu5

- What I expected to happen: Nautilus windows say up in the background and are
interact-able as if normal windows
- What happened instead: Windows hide themselves in the background and pretend
to not exist.
+ Action: Open a file using nautilus or select another window while nautilus is
the active window
+ What I expected to happen: Nautilus window will stay active in the background.
+ What happened instead: Nautilus window will stay hidden under almost any
circumstances.
+
+
+ Action: Click the Nautilus unity icon
+ What I expected to happen: Nautilus icon will glow, and open nautilus windows
can be accessed by right clicking the icon

[Bug 1642685] [NEW] problems with drivers

2016-11-17 Thread Joseph A. Groves Jr.
Public bug reported:

I am having several problems, I lose my mouse pad from time to time, I
have also noticed that I am having issues with the screen, but I am not
sure if this is a problem or not, sometimes when I travel up to the top
using the mouse the problem starts with the way that it displays, hard
to explain, distorts sometimes.Have also noticed just recently a problem
with the software center installed a new app today and it would not show
the installation process, froze with the installation screen showing
what was in the information about the program, the app still installed.I
feel that the O.S. should be working better than what it is, maybe I am
comparing it to Micro soft, I am not fully familiar with this O.S.

[Bug 1642078] Re: Black screen at startup

2016-11-17 Thread Joshua
This is a big problem with amdgpu on the Carrizo card. The screen just
goes black, and I am unable to get it to do otherwise, even after
rebooting. Using nomodeset as a kernel parameter during grub boot-up
allows me to boot it up in low-graphics mode.

I do not have this issue in Ubuntu 14.04, since Ubuntu 14.04 still
allows users to install fglrx/Catalyst, which works perfectly with
Carrizo. But support for that package has been dropped in later
installments of Ubuntu.
