[Bug 1639750] Re: subtitle downloads hang

2016-12-20 Thread Götz Waschk
I'll try to do that paperwork:
[Impact]
The subtitle downloading process is hanging, there is an error message. Every
user trying to download a subtitle for a movie will get the error.
[Test Case]
1. start vlc
2. click on View->Download Subtitles
3. select 'subtitles language' English
4. fill 'title' with Avatar
5. click on 'search by name'

You'll get the window titled 'Extension not responding'.
6. After a long waiting time, click on the first search result and click the
'download selection' link
Nothing happens
[Regression Potential]
Low. The subtitle downloader wasn't working, worst thing that would happen
would be the patched subtitle downloader to cause a crash when used.

[Bug 1639310] Re: Failed to start LSB: VirtualBox Linux Kernel Module

this seems an uninstended side effect, the rebuild is done automatically at
each kernel/virtualbox update.
Do you have some manual kernel installed, or did you delete the triggers doing
the rebuild automatically?

[Bug 1649419] Re: unable to install apps from ubuntu store

2016-12-20 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Thanks Daniel for explaining the situation! One last question, after
which we can then close this bug: can you still see the
"com.canonical.payui_payui" application under the ubuntuone account? It
should not be there, and indeed I don't see it in my phone or in my
tablet.

Please report the missing apps as a separate bug -- I recommend filing it here:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+filebug

and maybe also add unity8-dash as an affected component; it might not be
the correct one, but the guys should know where to move it to.

[Bug 1639310] Re: Failed to start LSB: VirtualBox Linux Kernel Module

2016-12-20 Thread Justin Warkentin
In case it helps anyone, after a kernel upgrade I always have this error
and have to run "apt-get install --reinstall virtualbox-dkms" to rebuild
the virtualbox kernel modules against the new kernel. Annoying to have
to remember but it solves the problem every time.

A kernel upgrade seems like the likely culprit in this case as well.

[Bug 1651005] Re: Unidentified Trackpad Synaptics

Same issue also appears in Linux Mint 18.1 Mate. In all instances, the
touchpad works in the live USB boot before installation but after
installation, its as though it is not even installed.

@santi Thank you for letting me know. It's definitely frustrating as its
an essential piece of the usability of the computer!!

Are the upstream kernels shared between Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Arch
Linux?

[Bug 1651629] Re: [Asus X200M] Brightness keys don't work.

2016-12-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Matthew Brooks, as per
https://www.asus.com/Notebooks/X200MA/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to
your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (506).
When you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new report.

It is most helpful that after the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still
reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the
situation.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1651629] Re: [Asus X200M] Brightness keys don't work.

2016-12-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Matthew Brooks, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

In order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at your
earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

Here's the offending upgrade log. Although Mesa 13 was also introduced
today, that does not seem to be the problem, since mir-demos still work
fine.

[Bug 1650752] Re: Thinkpad Yoga 13 fails to suspend after update to 4.8.0.30.39

2016-12-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kaeru, please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 1650752

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
