I look forward to it; thanks.

I also tried the PPA release, 2.2.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu17.04.1~ppa2, and

[Bug 1654624] Re: dhcp apparmor profile complains about lxd client

2017-01-27 Thread Stéphane Graber
Removing the LXD task, this is yet another apparmor bug from the
apparmor stacking/namespacing change which was backported to Xenial.

Basically, dhclient is now being confined by apparmor inside the
container, unfortunately, apparmor doesn't behave in the exact same way
when it's interpreting a profile as part of a stack vs as the single
profile in the stack (on the host).

We've seen a number of file_perm and related issue show up, typically
related to permissions to access the failing binary itself. Though in
this case, the path does seem a bit weirder?

Anyway, not a LXD bug but an apparmor one. I'm sure John will have an
idea of what's going on here :)

[Bug 506361] Re: kdesudo - process for the file protocol died unexpectedly

2017-01-27 Thread eugenez
"kdesudo dbus-launch dolphin" works fine (workaruund from
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=165268#c19).

You can define an alias in ~/.bashrc: alias kdesudo='kdesudo dbus-
launch' and (after re-login) just use "kdesudo blablabla"

(Kubuntu 16.10 with Plasma 5.8.5)

[Bug 1659988] Re: Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-01-27 Thread Thomas Mayer
I fixed all the issues now.

Now the apparmor profile works:
- console output remains silent
- nothing is logged to /var/log/syslog
- firefox renders content again in tabs

Tested with ubuntu 16.04 (up-to-date) and firefox 51.0.1

Please reread the patch carefully in terms of security. I think I did
not open it up too much, but in principle I just tried to get my firefox
working again. Basically, I opened up everything apparmor was
complaining about.

[Bug 1659983] Re: steam package needs a dbus-x11 dependency to fix missing tray icon / indicator

2017-01-27 Thread Forest
** Description changed:

Please add Recommends: dbus-x11 (or maybe Suggests:) to the steam
  packaging.

I was trying for months to figure out why steam wouldn't show a
notification tray icon or application indicator on my new xubuntu
- installation, when it worked fine on my old installation. I learned
+ installation, when it worked fine on my old installation. I discovered
today that installing the dbus-x11 package fixes it. Perhaps that
package is usually pulled in by some other dependency in a default
desktop installation, but on my minimal system, it wasn't.

[Bug 1659988] Re: Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-01-27 Thread Thomas Mayer
In addition, I applied the suggestion from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1495248.

Now the apparmor profile works:
- console output remains silent
- nothing is logged to /var/log/syslog
- firefox renders content again in tabs

[Bug 1659988] Re: Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-01-27 Thread Thomas Mayer
The following patch mitigates the error message, but it's only a partial
fix for the issue (which is white tabs). Note that I had python 3.5
installed whereas the apparmor profile only supported 3.0-3.4.

So there's something else to do, and it also seems to be related to
apparmor (because when disabling the profile tabs are rendered
correctly).

Re: [Bug 1589028] Re: Improper blocksize set by usb-creator, leads to problems during formatting

2017-01-27 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
Can't you use `dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX count=100` to wipe out MBR and
partition table? Then gparted will just see a new drive. Note sdX = sdb,
sdc or whatever your flash drive is.

[Bug 1659991] [NEW] no sound

2017-01-27 Thread Dave H
Public bug reported:

I installed a ASUS sound card which said it had GE Force 210 encoding.
After installing card I still had sound. I changed the driver to Nvidia
304.134 as requested by system settings. I then did a apt-get upgrade,
now no sound. Did I do something wrong? Please let me know.

[Bug 1659988] [NEW] Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-01-27 Thread Thomas Mayer
Public bug reported:

When I start Firefox, even when run as root, I get an error message:

/usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply
additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

As a result, Firefox only shows white or black content in browser tab
(which is basically rendered empty).

I can work around this issue with a

cd /etc/apparmor.d/disable
ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox
apt-get install --reinstall --purge apparmor libapparmor-perl libapparmor1

After that, content is rendered again.

I had this problem earlier
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1643200) and worked around it
by installing a firefox extension "ubuntu modifications". But after
updating from 51.0.0 to 51.0.1, I got the same problem again and
enabling or disabling the extension did not help any more. Same for
enabling/disabling all the hardware acceleration and/or e10s settings in
about:config.

Now that it seems to be an apparmor profile issue, I think that can be
fixed in a nice manner. And it also should see some priority. Therefore,
I think it makes sense to have a clean new ticket for this.

[Bug 1646222] Re: calculation of needed free space in /boot is inaccurate and causes refusal to upgrade

2017-01-27 Thread Brian Murray
Yakkety only need 111M free so I had to fill up boot some more to
generate the error message about needing to free up space in /boot. I
then installed the packages from yakkety-proposed and verified I still
saw an error with a fuller disk and then that the upgrade proceeded with
102M (less than 111M and more than 99M) free space in /boot.

[Bug 1659983] [NEW] steam package needs a dbus-x11 dependency to fix missing tray icon / indicator

2017-01-27 Thread Forest
Public bug reported:

Please add Recommends: dbus-x11 (or maybe Suggests:) to the steam
packaging.

I was trying for months to figure out why steam wouldn't show a
notification tray icon or application indicator on my new xubuntu
installation, when it worked fine on my old installation. I learned
today that installing the dbus-x11 package fixes it. Perhaps that
package is usually pulled in by some other dependency in a default
desktop installation, but on my minimal system, it wasn't.
