[Bug 1665853] Re: Gnome Flashback: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration

2017-02-17 Thread Thomas Mayer
As it turned out, the leftern part of the right screen is already part
of the right screen (not a overstretched part of the left screen.

To illustrate it, I marked it red on a photo (attached).

Still: 80% of the second screen remain black, as long as the login
process is not finished.

[Bug 1665853] [NEW] Gnome Flashback: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration

2017-02-17 Thread Thomas Mayer
Public bug reported:

I'm using ubuntu 16.04, up-to-date, HWE kernel 4.8.0-36-generic.

On dual screen setup, during system login, the first screen stretches
over a part of the second screen (about 25% of it), whereas the rest of
the second screen is black. Like this:

# # #<<|...#
# Login# #<<|.Black.#
# # #<<|...#

The part marked with "<<" is the rightest part of the background image
of the first screen. I've seen this after updating to xorg/xserver-
hwe-16.04, whereas installing the hwe kernel alone did not make this
happen.

Nevertheless, I can login and everything is fine again. Both screens
look as they should. (I had to reconfigure monitors once after updating
to xorg/xserver-hwe-16.04).

sylog shows:

Feb 18 06:27:03 lat61 gnome-session[3242]: ** (gnome-flashback:3340): WARNING
**: Could not assign CRTC to outputs, ignoring configuration
Feb 18 06:27:03 lat61 gnome-session[3242]: ** (gnome-flashback:3340): WARNING

That got scrambled. Should be:

_

Again, The part marked with "<<" is the rightest part of the background

[Bug 1663841] Re: toggling CAPS LOCK off freezes computer

2017-02-17 Thread Jorge Garza
Okay,

So I have a New Razer Blade Stealth and I guess you also have one.
I fixed the problem installing the razer keyboard driver which you can find
here:
https://terrycain.github.io/razer-drivers/

After installing the driver you should see it doing
$ lsmod | grep "razerkbd"

Best!

[Bug 1665850] [NEW] Screen corruption after unblank with HWE stack

2017-02-17 Thread Andrei Borzenkov
Public bug reported:

After update of video drivers to HWE stack as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack (sudo apt-get install
--install-recommends xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04) I experience reproducible
screen corruption after unblanking screen. What happens

- screen goes blank
- I move mouse, screen unblanks
- random parts of screen begin to blink rapidly. Forcing redraw of window
content (e.g. by clicking on application window to raise it) stops blinking.

I never observed this issue when using GA versions of Xorg stack. Using
HWE kernel as well.

[Bug 1662654] Re: Please remove tomcat 8.5 from zesty-proposed

2017-02-17 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I'm afraid resteasy 3.1.0 is in the same boat.. while I fixed dogtag-pki
to build with it there's some weird bug left I don't even know where to
start debugging since there is nothing in the logs. Anyway, 'pkispawn'
fails with this version, so it's still blocking things from migrating.
Filed a bug upstream but no idea when they get on it.

[Bug 1307109] Re: Alcor Micro AU9540 keeps powering down when card is present

2017-02-17 Thread Chris McDonough
I'll also note that the A22CR card works fine (does not exhibit the
flapping behavior) in an external Feitian reader.

Interestingly, the A22CR card + Alcor combibation doesn't "flap" under
Windows either when running opensc-tool in a loop. Just under Linux.

[Bug 1307109] Re: Alcor Micro AU9540 keeps powering down when card is present

2017-02-17 Thread Chris McDonough
I have the same problem, using pcscd 1.8.14-1ubuntu1.16.04.1 on an IBM
Thinkpad P50, which has the same card reader.

However, interestingly, it only happens when I use a Feitian/Entersafe
A22CR card. I tried two of them with the same result, so it's not a
flaky card either.

When I use a PIVKey C910 card, it does not "flap" like it does with the
entersafe card. The PIVKey card works fine in the reader.

[Bug 1665838] [NEW] Can't unlock screen after manual locking

2017-02-17 Thread Jane Atkinson
Public bug reported:

Testing in Virtualbox VM, Xubuntu 17.04 amd-64

I locked the screen using the lock button at the bottom of the whisker
menu.

On attempting to unlock, the screen goes black for a split second, then
comes straight back to the password dialogue. I tried several times,
with the same result. I needed to shutdown/reboot to get out of the
loop.

[Bug 1656155] Re: System (keyboard & touchpad) freezes

2017-02-17 Thread Jeffry R. Fisher
@V: Did you upgrade to 16.10, or did you do a fresh install? Check what
kernel version you ended up with. If less than 4.6, get a fresh install
image of 16.10 with kernel 4.8 (or else follow a recipe for upgrading
your kernel).

Avoid the bug by choosing a command line boot level (stay out of the
GUI) or using ssh to login from a different machine.

That's all I have. Being a user-space kind of guy, I'll defer to anyone
who overrides anything I've said.

I'm still rock-stable since achieving kernel 4.8. Somebody else might
have something to say about choosing the right install options. There
was a 3rd-party option that I said yes to, and it was associated with a
log message about Intel drivers later on.

[Bug 1665833] Re: inode exhaustion should be logged to dmesg

2017-02-17 Thread RichardNeill
Sorry, I can't collect the report: apport isn't installed on the server,
and the whole problem is that, having run out of inodes, I can't install
anything (nor save files). Cleaning up and rebooting will destroy the
logfiles of interest.

The key point here is that:

root@archimedes:/home/rjn# dmesg | grep -i inode
[0.004000] Inode-cache hash table entries: 524288 (order: 10, 4194304 bytes)
[1.640998] EXT4-fs (xvda2): 1 orphan inode deleted

i.e. there is an absence of the log message along the lines of:
"Warning: /dev/xvda2 has run out of inodes, cannot create new file"

As requested, confirming anyway.

[Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken

2017-02-17 Thread Jose Arrarte
I have a similar situation with my P50, the dock station and a 1440x900
VGA monitor (ViewSonic VA1903wb). When docking the notebook or
connecting the monitor after the notebook is docked results in a black
screen + flashes loop that never returns (well, it looped for at least
~5 minutes before I unplugged the external monitor).

I'm using NVidia drivers v367.

I tried different kernels (stock 4.4, 4.7 and I'm on 4.8 now). 'uname -a'
reports:

[Bug 1665833] [NEW] inode exhaustion should be logged to dmesg

2017-02-17 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Problem:
My server just became unusable, because it ran out of inodes (something that
shouldn't happen on a relatively normal installation). The root-cause was a
misbehaving CRM program creating way too many session files and never deleting
them. However, while debugging, it would have been really really helpful if
there were something in the logfiles. But it just failed silently: the lack of
any error message makes diagnosing this error condition 100x harder than it
should be. We get messages about being out of disk-space, but that's not
helpful, especially when "df -h" shows it not to be true.

So, the bug report/feature request is this: when the kernel cannot
create a new file due to a shortage of inodes, it should emit a message
to that effect, at least in dmesg (and ideally also to syslog).

[For anyone else who chances upon this bug report, you can tell if you
have run out of inodes with "df -i", and you can find the offending
directories with: "find / -xdev -size +100k -type d" ]

[Bug 1530405] Re: NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [kerneloops:814]

2017-02-17 Thread Roger Winans
I downloaded lubuntu-16.10-desktop-amd64.iso and created a new
VirtualBox VM on my MacBook to install it.

Each time I tried to boot the VM I got that 'NMI watchdog: BUG: soft
lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s!'

After reading Keith Burns (alagalah) comment #19, I remembered enabling
the USB 3.0 port in the VM. Once I changed the port back to USB 2.0,
the VM booted without issue.

hth, and thanks to @alagalah

[Bug 1587886] Re: strongswan ipsec status issue with apparmor

2017-02-17 Thread Douglas Kosovic
I can confirm NetworkManager-l2tp is working fine with the following
yakkety-proposed packages:
  strongswan_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_all
  strongswan-charon_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_amd64
  strongswan-libcharon_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_amd64
  strongswan-starter_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_amd64
  libstrongswan_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_amd64
  libstrongswan-standard-plugins_5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1_amd64

Only strongswan AppArmor related messages I see are just status messages
which are fine :

Feb 18 11:50:32 ubuntu audit[506]: AVC apparmor="STATUS"
operation="profile_load" profile="unconfined" name="/usr/lib/ipsec/charon"
pid=506 comm="apparmor_parser"
Feb 18 11:50:32 ubuntu audit[507]: AVC apparmor="STATUS"
operation="profile_load" profile="unconfined" name="/usr/lib/ipsec/stroke"
pid=507 comm="apparmor_parser"

Having said that, on Yakkety Yak with the stock strongswan_5.3.5-1ubuntu4
packages, (unlike Xenial Xerus) I'm able to establish a VPN connection with
NetworkManager-l2tp even though I see lots of the following AppArmor denied
messages :

Feb 18 11:43:33 ubuntu audit[4002]: AVC apparmor="DENIED"
operation="sendmsg" info="Failed name lookup - disconnected path"
error=-13 profile="/usr/lib/ipsec/charon" name="run/systemd/journal/dev-
log" pid=4002 comm="charon" requested_mask="w" denied_mask="w" fsuid=0
ouid=0

But I think strongswan 5.3.5-1ubuntu4.1 is definitely worthwhile to get rid of
those AppArmor denied messages.

[Bug 1589008] Re: Bluetooth freezing video playback In Ubuntu/Kubuntu 16.04

2017-02-17 Thread Thomas Mayer
Tracked it further down (ubuntu 16.04).

On a fresh boot
- bluetooth device connects, with sound enabled (I configured bluetooth to
default to bluetooth sound device on connect)
- video playback does not stop
- Sound is played perfectly fine.

After a suspend to ram and suspend
- bluetooth connects, but sound is not enabled
- video playback stops
- Workaround: I have to switch from A2DP to HSP/HFP and back to A2DP.
- After applying the workaround (manually, every time), video playback
continues, sound plays fine via BT.

I've just updated to HWE kernel 4.8.0-36-generic. But that did not
change anything, compared to 4.4 kernel.

To sum up: It's related to suspend/resume, at least sometimes. And
Kernel 4.8 does not fix it.

[Bug 1551385] Re: No sound on ASUS Xonar DGX Soundcard (16.04)

2017-02-17 Thread Rob Glenn
I just completed a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 with a brand new Asus
Xonar DGX. I can confirm the bug exists and also that the alsamixer
workaround is sticky across reboots. While the current workaround is
much better than nothing, I' d like a way to have sound on both speakers
and headphones at once, the alsamixer solution appears to offer a one-
or-the-other switch but not both. Anyone figure out a solution for
this?

[Bug 1570472] Re: Set systemd as default service provider

2017-02-17 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Each release is getting a slightly different fix, unfortunately.

Zesty (4.8.2-3ubuntu1) is getting an adaptation of the Debian change
which simply makes systemd the default on all Ubuntu and then switches
back to upstart if it doesn't see /run/systemd/system (I will coordinate
with the Debian maintainers to see if this is going upstream).

Yakkety has a version of my upstreamed change, so we just add 16.10 to
the list.

Xenial is a much older codebase, but the minimal fix tested by a few
folks via my PPA still applies and is what I have uploaded. It resembles
the Debian and upstream fixes and is minimally invasive.
