[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-03-06 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello, as you mentioned that this can be reproduced with LiveCD, do you mind to
give 16.04.2 (which is using 4.8 kernel, or even test it with 17.04 daylive) a
try?
Thanks

I made this bug report from the Ubuntu error tracker - it's a bug in

When a user simply updates via GUI software updater, he/she will still

[Bug 334170] Re: GParted's DEB package dependencies appear to be incomplete

2017-03-06 Thread Ubfan
The e2fsprogs is still not a dependency in gparted 0.25.0-1
The resize2fs which expands the filesystem when a partition is enlarged is a
part of e2fsprogs.
This automatic ext filesystem resizing is a feature gparted offers over other
partition managers like fdisk, but is not mentioned in the man pages either.
  As was mentioned in the original report, gparted's view/filesystem support
does list the packages required for various filesystems, several are in the
"suggests", but still missing are:
btrfs-progs, brtfs-tools, e2fsprogs, f2fs-tools, hfsutils, hfsprogs,
util-linux, lvm2, nilfs-utils, ntfsprogs, xfsdump

[Bug 1528735] Re: Suspend fails every second time on some laptops in UEFI mode

2017-03-06 Thread carloslp
It seems some hardware needs the OS to store/restore the NVS state when
entering/exiting S3 (suspend to ram).

On bug https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189431 a quirk was
added to the Linux Kernel to do this for the Lenovo G50-45. If you have
a similar issue on hardware other than this Lenovo laptop please say
that on the previous linked kernel bug.

Re: [Bug 1670567] [NEW] package slapd 2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-03-06 Thread Ryan Tandy
Hello,

The log says that slapd failed to start, but not why.

Please could you check /var/log/syslog for messages emitted by slapd and
paste them here.

Alternatively, start slapd in debug mode (-d):

/usr/sbin/slapd -h 'ldap:/// ldapi:///' -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d -u openldap
-g openldap -d1

and paste its output.

Thank you!

[Bug 1670537] Re: Hardware Lister Start Error

2017-03-06 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1670537/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1605278] Re: Merge python-django 1:1.10.3 from Debian unstable

2017-03-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Oh, I guess the problem was the other way around. Earlier there were
concerns about packages being ready for 1.10 so hopefully they still
work with 1.8.

The only way to verify it is to install them all and test it. But I
don't use django and I'm not volunteering to do that.

Or we could just wait for bug reports if someone does experience a
problem.

[Bug 1661836] Re: supertux 2 can't start with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=mir [Couldn't initialize SDL: Failed to connect to the mir server]

2017-03-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Sounds like this is just an (un)lucky case for bug 1605478. Sometimes it won't
crash if you're either:
   (a) lucky enough to have a memory state that doesn't segfault; or
   (b) running an X server somewhere else on the system.

In that case I would expect the Mir connection to fail with some error
message. But it could still be bug 1605478 that's the root cause.

Let's get a fix for bug 1605478 released first then see if this one
persists.

screen on resume. Motherboard is Asus extreme 3 gen 3. Get it when using
intel on-board graphics or nvidia card. Have a soundcard if that makes
any difference. This bug was introduced at some point before these
versions. So suspend/hibernate bug is not -just- suspend/hibernate.
Without being able to suspend, it requires repeatedly power cycling the
machine. If you have the ram with suspend that going to be better the
longer the use the machine, not if you have to power cycle. Also loading
up all the apps again, pita. I am going to try Debian and see if the
Jessie release fixes this. 16.04+ is plain buggy. I don't think you
should have released as a LTS. Check it out this is a common issue.

[Bug 1670552] [NEW] Configuration generated for encrypted boot is not bootable

2017-03-06 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

I've being experimenting with completely encrypted system on virtual
machine and got some problems with automatically generated configs.

In my test setup:
/dev/sda - ESP partition, mounted as /boot/efi
/dev/mapper/system1 is BTRFS partition on /dev/sdb with LUKS encryption

/etc/fstab:
/dev/mapper/system1 / btrfs defaults,subvol=@ 0 1
UUID=6EF4-C0FE  /boot/efi vfat  umask=00770 1
/dev/mapper/system1 /home btrfs defaults,subvol=@home 0 2

Except first column generated during initial installation.

/etc/crypttab:
system1 UUID=6a01d12f-f4c4-4818-8650-2df0baca84bc none
luks,keyscript=/etc/cryptroot/system.64.sh

File /etc/cryptroot/system.64.sh, obviously, exists.

/etc/default/grub contains:
- `GRUB_ENABLE_CRYPTODISK=y`
- and even `GRUB_PRELOAD_MODULES="luks cryptodisk procfs"` (shouldn't be
necessary and doesn't change anything anyway)

What goes wrong in this setup out of the box:
1) `ESP\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi` doesn't have built-in modules `luks`,
`cryptodisk` and `procfs` without which it is not possible to decrypt anything
and thus boot the system (initially commented here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1565950)
2) `ESP\EFI\ubuntu\grub.cfg` contains incomplete config to actually decrypt
system (and will be re-written on package update, which is even worse)

`ESP\EFI\ubuntu\grub.cfg` as generated by `dpkg-reconfigure grub-efi-amd64`:
cryptomount -u 6a01d12ff4c4481886502df0baca84bc
search.fs_uuid bb3594a7-41b0-484c-91ad-48424184169e root
cryptouuid/6a01d12ff4c4481886502df0baca84bc
set prefix=($root)'/@/boot/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

What I did instead is I've copied `/boot/grub/x86_64-efi` (only `luks.mod`,
`cryptodisk.mod` and `procfs.mod` files are needed from there) to
`ESP\x86_64-efi` and changed `ESP\EFI\ubuntu\grub.cfg` to following (first 3
lines added):
search.fs_uuid 6EF4-C0FE boot
set prefix=($boot)
insmod luks
cryptomount -u 6a01d12ff4c4481886502df0baca84bc
search.fs_uuid bb3594a7-41b0-484c-91ad-48424184169e root
cryptouuid/6a01d12ff4c4481886502df0baca84bc
set prefix=($root)'/@/boot/grub'
configfile $prefix/grub.cfg

Things are getting even worse when BTRFS is not on single
partition/disk, but on few in RAID, since more manual configuration is
needed.

Would be nice to see additional modules added to `grubx64.efi` and fixed
`ESP\EFI\ubuntu\grub.cfg` generation by grub2 package.

This sounds like bug 1655804. It may require the same kind of fix: The
toolkit needs to register its Mir event callback in the spec prior to
window creation to support Unity8 behaviour.

[Bug 1668429] Re: X apps (LibreOffice, Thunderbird) fail to launch with failure to open display (no Xmir is running)

2017-03-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If we could get a fix for bug 1577641 then this would be easy to solve
(in the most efficient way): Just start an 'Xmir -rootless ...' at
login.

That way you don't need custom launcher magic for every X app to start
an X server.

[Bug 1670290] Re: Ubuntu can't suspend anymore after very recent update

2017-03-06 Thread Mina
apport-collect kept throwing exceptions and errors, took me about 5
times to get it right.

anyways it showed me a message that "I've modified systemd" & it said it
would include it in the report. But note that I didn't do anything to
systemd. Not "me", maybe something I installed.

Is the information sufficient? Anything else I need to provide? thx
Brian

  Earlier today after update Ubuntu can't suspend.

  When I suspend the power button blink like it's suspended, but when I
  try waking it up it boots from start. (It shows me bios password, then
  grub...). It used to work fine.

  It used to happen randomly but now it doesn't suspend at all. I always
  know if it shows me the bios password it will boot from scratch.

** Tags added: apport-collected xenial

** Description changed:

  Earlier today after update Ubuntu can't suspend.

  When I suspend the power button blink like it's suspended, but when I
  try waking it up it boots from start. (It shows me bios password, then
  grub...). It used to work fine.

  It used to happen randomly but now it doesn't suspend at all. I always
  know if it shows me the bios password it will boot from scratch.

[Bug 1577641] Re: Unity8 creates a blank black window for windowless apps

2017-03-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think a utilities socket is a useful solution.

Mir apps need to discover their socket automatically. libmirclient does
not know or care about the difference between an app and a utility.
There is only one default Mir socket it can find automatically, and only
one Mir socket for Unity8.

Secondly, the utility idea only solves it for utilities like mirout and
media-hub. We also have the same problem with actual apps where 'Xmir
-rootless' is running for some time before the app exists. It should not
be given a window until the X app creates one. Fixing this bug may also
be a prerequisite for bug 1668429 if we need 'Xmir -rootless' running in
advance.

I understand the original motivation for the splash screen, but we need
to move out of it. Apps should launch faster so it's a non-issue. Or at
least desktop mode should not show splash screens since slow launching
is really more of a mobile problem.

[Bug 1023421] Re: Update Manager can't set LC_MESSAGES to default locale

2017-03-06 Thread dg1727
I'm having the problem, or a similar one, on Linux Mint 18.1 Serena
XFCE, which is based on Xenial.

My version of this problem affects many programs, not just update-
manager:

man: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = (unset),
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "en_US"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

"pip" doesn't run at all. locale.Error: unsupported locale setting

So I did: (% is the shell prompt)

% locale
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory
LANG=en_US
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE="en_US"
LC_NUMERIC="en_US"
LC_TIME="en_US"
LC_COLLATE="en_US"
LC_MONETARY="en_US"
LC_MESSAGES="en_US"
LC_PAPER="en_US"
LC_NAME="en_US"
LC_ADDRESS="en_US"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_US"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US"
LC_ALL=
% grep en_US /usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US ISO-8859-1
en_US.ISO-8859-15 ISO-8859-15
% LANG=en_US.UTF-8
% man {some program}
# Now the error message isn't displayed! -- and likewise in programs that use
Perl.

I'm having the issue with en_US (no other locale has ever been selected
in this OS install), *not* one of the locales mentioned in the linked
bug-report https://bugs.python.org/issue20087

I was getting the same error messages in Linux Mint Debian Edition 2
"Betsy", which is based on Debian stable/jessie. I can do a little more
testing on that OS install if it's relevant to this bug report.

I searched on Launchpad for similar issues, but this one I'm commenting
in is the closest one I've found.

Of course, I can put a file in /etc/profile.d/ to set LANG=en_US.UTF-8
when anyone logs in, but I hope a bug report has been, or will be, filed
against the relevant package.

Please let me know if there is a more appropriate bug report I should
monitor and/or comment in.

Re: [Bug 1605278] Re: Merge python-django 1:1.10.3 from Debian unstable

2017-03-06 Thread Nish Aravamudan
The MAAS team are unable to proceed with the 1.10 version this cycle.

How would you propose we verify compatibility with 1.8? 1.10 was never
uploaded, so whatever build-time and autopkgtests run must have
passed.
