libinput.

[Bug 1665530] Re: Brightness control keys not working on Gigabyte P57 laptop

2017-03-08 Thread jamso
I have a gigabyte P57X v6-CF3, with the latest bios installed. I can
confirm this bug is present in ubuntu 16.10 with kernel
4.10.1-041001-generic.

Fn keys which work:
-F1 (sleep)
-F7 (mute)
-F8 (lower volume)
-F9 (increase volume)
-down arrow (play/pause media)
-up arrow (stop media)
-left arrow (previous track)
-right arrow (next track)
Fn keys which don't work:
-Esc (not sure what this is, possibly open dvd drive)
-F2 (don't know)
-F3 (decrease screen brightness)
-F4 (increase screen brightness)
-F5 might not work (looks like change display => cannot test)
-F6 (lock trackpad)
-F10 (don't know)
-F11 (disable/ enable wifi and bluetooth)
-F12 (camera, but haven't properly tested because no cam software installed)
-Prt Scr (sysRq)
-Delete (insert)
-Num LK (Scr LK, so can't really test)
-space (screen brightness, but it seems impossible to configure the
keyboard brightness at all on ubuntu)

[Bug 1670905] Re: qemu-debootstrap inserts debian repos into the chroot

2017-03-08 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi Alistair,
yes that matches 100% what I have found and is the reason I added a bug task
for debootstrap.
Sorry if I didn't sum it up so well, but yeah - I agree that the root cause is
the lack of an ability to pass such info to second stage (or alternatively that
second stage knows how to handle better what it finds from first stage in such
cases).

I kept the qemu-debootstrap task since if debootstrap develops something
to be passed to second stage that needs modification of the second stage
call that would have to be changed there.

[Bug 1670905] Re: qemu-debootstrap inserts debian repos into the chroot

2017-03-08 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thinking about it, it actually wouldn't make too much sense to fix that
in the Ubuntu Delta of the two packages.

This bug is present in Debian too. So it would be best fixed in Debian,
and then Ubuntu will pick it up on the next merge.

Would you mind filing bug(s) with Debian please?

Mention the Bug numbers here and we can link them, so we will get an
auto-update once there is anything to consider for backporting/merging.

[Bug 1671360] [NEW] System doesn't boot properly on AMD Ryzen / Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3

2017-03-08 Thread Maciej Dziardziel
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to run ubuntu on Ryzen 1700x with Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3
motherboard,
and it has a load of problems, starting with not being able to boot normally.

During normal boot, on 16.10 as well as 17.04 beta:
system doesn't boot normally, hangs with a lot of "unexpected irq trap at
vector 07"
messages displayed.

Following advice from various places, I've tried:disable cpu freq governor and
cpu handling in acpi settings

1. add "acpi=off" to boot params

That helps, allowing me to boot into recovery mode, though it leaves me
with system seeing only one core, is really slow and still only boots in
recovery mode.

2. Compile own kernel using 4.11.rc1 and disabling cpu freq governor and
cpu handling in acpi settings. Boot with "quiet loglevel=3" option.

That gets me even further - system sees all cores now. Still only recovery mode
though,
but its enough to get info for this bug report.

Some observed problems:

1. dmesg reports *a lot* of messages like this all the time:

[  163.362068] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
[  163.362081] bad_chained_irq+0x0/0x40
[  163.362089] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
[  163.362090] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
[  163.362090] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
[  163.362090] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
[  163.362090] ->action(): 884601c0
[  163.362091]IRQ_NOPROBE set
[  163.362099] ->handle_irq():  87a7e090,
[  163.362099] amd_gpio_irq_handler+0x0/0x200
[  163.362100] ->irq_data.chip(): 88587e20,
[  163.362100] ioapic_ir_chip+0x0/0x120
[  163.362101] ->action(): 884601c0

I've tried to redirect dmesg to a file, stopped after a short while, it
generated 400M of those.

2. Systemd cannot start journald. Perhaps because it cannot cope with
amount of kernel logs?

3. Looking at pci, I've noticed something called AMDI0040
(/sys/bus/acpi/devices/AMDI0040, path=_SB_.EMMC), among AMDI0010,
AMDI0020, AMDI0030. Those however are mentioned in kernel source, kernel
and google are completely silent about AMDI0040.

Phoronix tested ryzen using different motherboard, and it worked better (though
not well),
so I suspect it is an issue with motherboard.

[Bug 1671355] [NEW] Outdated gnome-session files break System Settings menu

2017-03-08 Thread Nathan Dorfman
Public bug reported:

The System Settings menu stopped working since Trusty. The reason is
that the included gnome-session files are out of date: they use gnome-
settings-daemon, but the required gnome-control-center is no longer
installed by default.

While installing that package makes it "work," I believe the correct fix
is to do exactly what gnome-session-metacity already does, and use
unity-settings-daemon/unity-control-center instead.

The two files that need updating appear to have been cloned from gnome-
flashback-metacity at some point in the past, and not gotten updated
since. It's easy to just overwrite them with new ones:

cd /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions && sed 's/metacity/xmonad/g'
gnome-flashback-metacity > gnome-flashback-xmonad

sed 's/metacity/xmonad/g' /usr/lib/gnome-flashback/gnome-flashback-
metacity > /usr/bin/gnome-flashback-xmonad

With these two changes, it works perfectly: unity-settings-daemon is
running, and the Systems Settings menu brings up unity-control-panel.

As an aside, that second file belongs in /usr/lib/gnome-flashback/, not
/usr/bin. If moving it, simply update /usr/share/xsessions/gnome-
flashback-xmonad.desktop with the new location.

[Bug 1575437] Re: Asus ZenBook UX501VW frequently hangs during boot under Ubuntu 16.04

2017-03-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Adric Norris, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 4.3.5
to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions, or providing a commit
from a kernel version bisect is not fully commit bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has
been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1610765] Re: Apparmor refuses mysqld open on /etc/mysql/my.cnf.migrated causing it to fail to start

2017-03-08 Thread Mark Thompson
I am not sure this will help anyone but i got this problem to go away
via: (I cannot cut and paste my logs so you may have to fill in the
middle sections)

I got the apparmor utilities and put mysql into complain only mode.
::aa-complain mysql
While this did help mysql run it didnt get much farther so i tried
::mysql_safe

which told me that /var/run/mysql directory did not exist.
::mkdir /var/run/mysql
::systemctl stop mysql (as it said it was running ... *shrugs* ... moving on)
::systemctl start mysql

it started with out any problems

[Bug 1639517] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting

2017-03-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
FFab, in order to allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue, at
your earliest convenience, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D ? Please
keep in mind the following:
1) The one to test is at the very top line at the top of the page (not the
daily folder).
2) The release names are irrelevant.
3) The folder time stamps aren't indicative of when the kernel actually was
released upstream.
4) Install instructions are available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds .

If testing on your main install would be inconvenient, one may:
1) Install Ubuntu to a different partition and then test this there.
2) Backup, or clone the primary install.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where X, and Y are the first two numbers of the kernel version, and Z is
the release candidate number if it exists.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

Also, you don't need to apport-collect further unless specifically
requested to do so.

It is most helpful that after testing of the latest upstream kernel is
complete, you mark this report Status Confirmed.

Lastly, to keep this issue relevant to upstream, please continue to test
the latest mainline kernel as it becomes available.

Thank you for your help.

[Bug 1671331] [NEW] problem with installing and booting ubuntu

2017-03-08 Thread Jaromir
Public bug reported:

I have tried to open gparted, removed all partitions and created one 150
MB at the beginning (unformated grub_bios flag), then one 4GB less than
max (ext4), then the rest 3.72 GB (linux-swap).

Then I ran boot-repair - everything went smooth (summary: Boot
successfully repaired.

Please write on a paper the following URL:
http://paste2.org/tFf8f5hY

In case you still experience boot problem, indicate this URL to:
boot.rep...@gmail.com or to your favorite support forum.

You can now reboot your computer.)

Then I tried to install ubuntu, using the USB stick that I am running
the live session with.

Made the Ext4 mount point at "/" and began to install.. everything went
fine until the "grub2 installation" then a failure message appeared and
the installation closed.

Thanks for any advices..

[Bug 1219786] Re: Frantic disk activity by check-new-release makes system temporarily almost unusable

2017-03-08 Thread sfc
Just ran into this problem on a Ubuntu 16.04.2 server, the check-new-
release process occupied the whole disk, causing 99+% iowait in top and
100+MiB/s disk read in iotop (normal HDD, not SSD), which almost freeze
the server.

kernel 4.4.0-33-generic

After killed the check-new-release process, the server recovered from
freezing.

besto, given the upstream kernel fixed the issue, to further narrow this

[Bug 1625846] Re: Xmir -rootless: Firefox menus pop up then close right away

2017-03-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, I could do a semi-permanent workaround in Xmir along the lines of:
   Xmir -flattenOverrideRedirects

That might be adequate to fix this for Firefox and others. Although I
dread having to make Xmir lookup a blacklist of broken apps and apply
workarounds on the fly. It would be better in the long run to fix the
Mir architecture (separate on-top from keyboard focus).
