[Bug 1671360] Re: System doesn't boot properly on AMD Ryzen / Gigabyte GA-AB350-gaming-3

2017-03-12 Thread Eric Hartmann
As Maciej Dziardziel suggest, I've rebuild 4.10.1 kernel and deactivated
GPIO_AMDPT, GPIO_AMD8111 and PINCTRL_AMD.
The system was booting correctly, however I cannot use any USB keyboard.
So I've rebuild the kernel, deactivating only PINCTRL_AMD and everything is
working fine now.

Here is my setup : Aorus GA-X370-Gaming-5 with Ryzen 1800X.

And here is the link of the builds :

[Bug 362875] Re: rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset

2017-03-12 Thread Nicholas Pinto
I tried to do an apport and it seg-faulted in the middle of it. However
a few days of researching and looking at the chipset datasheet specific
to my model and I found something useful.

The dmesg report complains about vendor request 0x07 which is a multiple
byte read in the specs, while the offset 0x3000 corresponds to the MAC
control register, specifically the ASIC version number.

As well, the fact that this bug has existed across releases, kernel
versions, and the transition to systemd points more to the driver than
anything else. I also tested wicd (currently using that now) and the
problem persists, which means network-manager isn't the primary source
of the bug. All of these can still be in play or making the problem
worse but aren't the sole cause.

If I can get sight into the drivers (both rt73 and rt2x00USB), I might
be able to pin down more specifics. For the actual bug fixers, I'd
advise to check and see if the non-USB version of this chipset shares
the problem to isolate the bug some more.

want remove hard depends x11 from gvfs, and get answer from gnome
developers, what me need talks with developers my distro.

Alan recently said this was either fixed already (bug 1656727) or not
relevant to U8 (bug 1668466). See also older bug 1497128.

Given we have four known bugs for menu-related things crashing the
server in 'what(): map::at', and two of them still open, I feel we've
possibly still missed the root cause here... Perhaps see:

[Bug 1672030] Re: kmines unable to drag the toolbar outside the window

2017-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
AFAIK, the app should keep getting the mouse input outside its window so
long as the click/drag started inside the window.

It's unclear if this is the app not receiving drag events beyond its
main window boundaries, or is MirAL window management rules kicking in.

[Bug 1672030] Re: kmines unable to drag the toolbar outside the window

2017-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That said, Mir also needs to provide an API for relative movement of
child windows in this case (already possible with specs??). Because the
gesture started in the app window it shouldn't be a matter of self-
moving the toolbar (bug 1420334), but a case of the main app window
directing relative movement of its toolbar satellite window. Because the
drag started in the main app window, all input events for the duration
of the drag go to that app window even though that's not the window
being moved.

Manually specifying the DNS servers in the connection doesn't seem to
help. I was able to work around this by commenting out dnsmasq in

[Bug 1671834] Re: [unity8] searching in app drawer with a lot of apps can make you type a lot

2017-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears that we match word prefixes only (which is arguably a good
choice): "ath" does not find "LibreOffice Math", but "math" does.
However there are some cases where U8's implementation is annoying.

Example: Search "si"
Unity7 returns: "Simple Scan", "Universal Access", "Disk Usage Analyzer",
"Passwords and Keys".
Unity8 returns: "P: Password...", "S: Simple Scan", "U: Universal..."

So Unity7 is returning the more useful result first, but it's still not
perfect. I would have said the perfect answer would be to only return
"Simple Scan" for "si". If we did that then the alphabetical split would
not matter (only one result returned).

[Bug 1671773] Re: context menu remains open even if you click outside the main window, or the menu or resize the window

2017-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unfortunately we probably can't fix this in a hurry.

It works in Unity7 because X allows the toolkit to acquire a pointer
grab when a context menu opens. Then when the user clicks anywhere
outside the menu, the menu is still the one that gets that event and it
closes itself.

Such grabs are disallowed in the Unity8 architecture (last time I
checked), so some apps relying on the old grabbing functionality will
not auto-close their menus.

I think Unity8/Mir's preferred solution was for all toolkits to close
their context menus when they lose focus. However that also won't work
in future when we fix Mir to support menus that don't actually receive
focus (bug 1671771, bug 1625846, bug 1671744, bug 1662733).

Needs a solution from architecture/design...

[Bug 1672082] Re: [unity8] app drawer scrolling animation doesn't stop when the app drawer is closed

2017-03-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This may not be costing us anything if it's just remembering the scroll
state. So possibly not even a performance bug.

[Bug 1658707] Re: ttf-mscorefonts-installer drop-priv warnings and download errors during install

2017-03-12 Thread Patrick Hibbs
Although the request was for Yakketty, it also has the the bug in
Xenial. I did try to manually download arial32.exe and andale32.exe
using wget and then copying them to /var/lib/update-notifier/package-
data-downloads/partial. Doing so allowed the reconfigure to succeed.
