[Bug 1625846] Re: Xmir -rootless: Firefox menus pop up then close right away
I think bug 1671771 is fundamentally the wrong solution (to this problem; it does need to be fixed). The problem here is that XMir is not behaving like a spec-compliant X11 window manager. Unless we want to require Mir servers to implement X11 window management, this is not something that we can do with extra Mir support. One relevant section of one of the relevant X11 protocols is https://tronche.com/gui/x/icccm/sec-4.html#s-4.1.7 Specifically - Firefox is using the Locally Active focus model. It has the focus attribute set to “true” in the WM_HINTS, and has set WM_TAKE_FOCUS on its window. This means that it (a) expects to receive focus (and receives focus in/focus out events) but (b) only ever expects to be given focus to its top-level window, and will manually manage the focus of its subwindows itself. XMir is in a position to do this - it doesn't matter which of the client's windows Mir thinks has input focus. As long as *any* of the client's windows have input focus XMir will receive input events and can set the X11 focus as appropriate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625846 Title: Xmir -rootless: Firefox menus pop up then close right away To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1625846/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1625846] Re: Xmir -rootless: Firefox menus pop up then close right away
(The reason why bug 1671771 is not going to fix this is that Firefox¹ *may* set input focus to one of its subwindows, and will behave weirdly if that doesn't work. You can't just set “no focus” on the Mir surface corresponding to Firefox's subwindow and then delegate to Mir's input focus.) ¹: And, if not Firefox, then there'll definitely be *some* X11 app which does this ☺ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625846 Title: Xmir -rootless: Firefox menus pop up then close right away To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1625846/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1673650] [NEW] Single window randomly freezes (no input possible)
Public bug reported: Ubuntu version: Description:Zorin OS 12.1 (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS) Release:12 Package: gdm3: Installed: 3.18.3-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 3.18.3-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 3.18.3-0ubuntu2 500 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Description: This bug makes lets a window freeze, however the application inside it does not freeze. It is not possible to focus the window anymore, nor to resize it. The cursor does not change the icon to the resize icon and the window doesn't respond to clicks or hovering events. However, the application itself is fine - for example, Firefox will continue to play music. Alt+F4 to exit the application still works. It has happened to me in Thunar, Sublime Text and Firefox and the Gnome Shell, so I don't think the bug has to do with the application. The title bar buttons may still work on the frozen window (see below). The window can be made responsible again by opening a second window and having it partially, not completely (!) overlap the frozen window or by resizing the window (does however not work with Super+Right shortcuts for tiling, you have to move the mouse and click the "restore maximized window" button). The bug often occurs after restoring a window to the maximized state after it has been pushed into the background for a prolonged time (as far as I can tell). For example, if I put Firefox into the background to play music, leave it in maximized state, open a text editor maximized so that Firefox is completely hidden, come back 20 minutes later and bring Firefox in the foreground, Firefox is almost (not always) guaranteed to be frozen, but the music still plays. It is possible that two windows freeze at the same time, for example, I had two instances of Thunar (file manager) in the background, both frozen and the title bar buttons didn't work either. The bug occurs in several stages (not sure if two bugs or the same). About one hour after logging in (as far as I can tell), some windows (noticably the ones in the background, meaning not visible or completely hidden behind another window) become unresponsive. Sometimes the title bar still works, at which point you can unfreeze the window by clicking the "restore" button in the title bar. In this stage, the window is only unresponsive to clicks and mouse focus events. Sometimes, this isn't possible either because the application has no window decoration or because the title bar is not responding, too. In this stage the window will not respond to a cursor hovering over the edge of the window. The cursor won't change. Then you have to open another application window and have it partially overlap the frozen window. The frozen window will immediately become responsive again. After stage 2 has happened about 5 times, the cursor will start to click about 100 pixels to the left. This has happened twice in different applications, not sure if really related and a bug or just a "quirk" (?). The cursor will show and the application is responsive, but the recorded click will be around 100 pixels to the left. An application restart fixes this problem. The bug occurs randomly, I sadly can't give an exact estimate for when it happens. It's just that when it starts, it will return in about 10 - 20 minutes after first occurence. I can't say if this happens on other distributions or if this is a known bug. Zorin OS 12 is Ubuntu 16.04 with a themed GNOME window manager. [Bug 1673350] Re: dm-queue-length module is not included in installer/initramfs
** Description changed: + [Impact] + Multipath users using EMC XtremIO storage as boot device or at install time may run into this issue. With the module unavailable the device is more often than not unavailable. Any users changing path selector to 'queue-length' with other storage devices may also be affected. + + [Test case] + 1) Install on multipath system using EMC XtremIO storage / OR: + a) Start d-i install on qemu with multipath enabled + b) exit to d-i menu + c) modify /etc/multipath.conf to define path selector as 'queue-length' for the local qemu device. + d) restart multipathd if necessary. + 2) Try to complete the install, setting up storage as multipath and using the multipath device as boot disk. + 3) Reboot to disk. + + In a success case, the install should complete successfully without + requiring manual configuration from the user to support the multipath + storage past the normal detection of multipath and partitioning. + + In a failure case, the install may not complete, or rebooting may fail + or lead to a system booted on a single path of the multipath device (ie. + / on /dev/sda2 rather than /dev/mpatha2). + + [Regression Potential] + The inclusion of a new multipath path selector driver should not cause any regressions, but any failure to detect, configure or boot on multipath devices following this change on XtremIO hardware or otherwise would constitute a regression potentially caused by this change. + + --- + ---Problem Description--- dm-queue-length module is not included in installer/initramfs On Ubuntu, multipath devices using the 'queue-length' path selector are non-functional on both the installer and initramfs environments; because the 'dm-queue-length' kernel module is not included in them. The multipath-modules.udeb (src:linux) does not include it in the installer, nor multipath-tools-boot (src:multipath-tools) installs it in the initramfs. One example is the EMC XtremIO storage, which has 'queue-length' defined as its path selector in the default multipath configuration, at least on 16.04. Other products may be affected if they are manually configured to use that path selector (e.g., via /etc/multipath.conf), and the mere switch of that might render the system _unbootable_ if booting from multipath, since the initramfs is affected. More recently this and another storage changed default path selectors out of 'queue-length', however, it's virtually possible for any storage system to be affected, with the described manual configuration change. So, this change is also desired on for the next stable release, 17.04, and later. Patches are provided for 16.04 and 17.04. How do I add the boot options and have them stick? I tried modifying the yaboot but I ended up breaking my install. I can't reproduce it in a clean 16.04 installation. Please run `apport-collect 1630077`, so that things like the list of installed packages get attached to this bug. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete.
