[Bug 1529105] Re: Not able to install xserver-xorg-input-aiptek package

2017-03-17 Thread ronso0
Affects me on 16.04, as well.
After a fresh install of ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64, my first action was
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-aiptek
This would refuse install justified with dependency problems stated in bug
report.

sudo apt-get install aptitude
and then
sudo aptitude install xserver-xorg-input-aiptek
would send me on a hilarious journey of removing ubuntu-desktop and other basic
stuff, where I either end up with a graphical session but no inpu drivers, no
graphical session at all or -when trying to install basic graphical AND input
packages- have the graphical session back, but no aiptek drivers.

On Xubuntu (Ubuntu Studio 14.04) install of aiptek drivers works
flawless.

[Bug 1640970] Re: 16.10: VPN Connections -> Configure VPN grayed out

2017-03-17 Thread Anthony Kamau
I'm also going to add to this.

I have just done a clean install of 16.04 LTS and OpenVPN connects
intermittently. Despite installing openvpn, network-manager-openvpn,
and network-manager-openvpn-gnome, the "Configure VPN..." option remains
grayed out.

In addition, after creating my VPN profile via 'Edit Connections...',
I'm not able to consistently create a VPN tunnel to the office.
Attached are 2 files: success and failure.

Both files contain pertinent lines from /var/log/syslog with success
showing a success full connection and failure showing a failed
connection.

In both cases, I get a notification pop-up that suggests that the vpn
connected successfully :(.

When the VPN fails to connect, the 'tun0' interface has no IP Address
and is in a down state.

[Bug 1656712] Re: Update flatpak and ostree to 0.8

2017-03-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I tried installing Clocks with Flatpak but I got an error because
apparently its gsettings schema wasn't installed, so I installed Iagno
instead. I then upgraded Flatpak to 0.8.2-1ubuntu16.10.1 (and ostree
2016.15-2ubuntu1~ubuntu16.10.1) and verified that I could still run the
Iagno flatpak and that the gnome and gnome-apps remote sources were
still set up.

I then installed Devhelp with the new flatpak and ran it successfully.

The important part of verifying this SRU for Ubuntu 16.10 is that
earlier installed Flatpaks still work and that it's possible to install
new apps.

** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
Flatpak 0.8 is a new LTS release of the alternative package set.

  https://blogs.gnome.org/alexl/2016/12/22/a-stable-base-for-flatpak-0-8/

This update includes these components for 16.04 LTS and 16.10:
  - flatpak 0.8.2
  - ostree 2016.15

This basically matches the set that is also available in Debian's
upcoming new stable release. All of these source packages are new to
  16.04 LTS.

  Test Case
  =
  1. Install an app with the old syntax (before upgrading flatpak and ostree)
  sudo apt install flatpak
  wget https://people.gnome.org/~alexl/keys/gnome-sdk.gpg
  flatpak remote-add --user --gpg-import=gnome-sdk.gpg gnome
http://sdk.gnome.org/repo/
flatpak --user install gnome org.gnome.Platform 3.22
  flatpak --user remote-add --gpg-import=gnome-sdk.gpg gnome-apps
http://sdk.gnome.org/repo-apps/
- flatpak --user install gnome-apps org.gnome.Clocks stable
+ flatpak --user install gnome-apps org.gnome.iagno

- After upgrading flapak and ostree, check whether the Clocks app is
- still installed.
+ Note that you may need to logout and log back in after installing your
+ first Flatpak app before the app shows up in the Activities Overview.
+
+ After upgrading flapak and ostree, check whether the Iagno app is still
+ installed.

  2. Install an app with the new syntax
  flatpak remote-add --from gnome https://sdk.gnome.org/gnome.flatpakrepo
  flatpak remote-add --from gnome-apps
https://sdk.gnome.org/gnome-apps.flatpakrepo
- flatpak install gnome-apps org.gnome.gedit
- flatpak run org.gnome.gedit
+ flatpak --user install gnome-apps org.gnome.Devhelp
+ flatpak run org.gnome.Devhelp (or click the launcher like any other app)

The test case for ostree is just making sure flatpak works.

  Regression Potential

There's no regression for Ubuntu 16.04 since these are new packages there
that should have no affect on other packages.

For 16.10, this has an inherent regression. The command-line syntax
changed in flatpak 0.6.13. However, since virtually all of the guides to
using Flatpak including http://flatpak.org/apps use the new syntax that
will not work with 16.10's older flatpak, it seems better for users to
get used to the new syntax.

  Other Info
  ==
Just like snap was backported to 14.04 LTS to -updates, this is being
backported to 16.04 LTS -updates. Both snap and Flatpak are useful for people
who want to run new apps on an LTS operating system.

Flatpak is not easily backportable to 14.04 LTS.

bubblewrap is required for this SRU and is being tracked in LP: #1649330

A separate SRU may be filed later to update xdg-desktop-portal and xdg-
desktop-portal-gtk. They are optional dependencies and I'm told that
most Flatpak apps do not use them yet.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 565189] Re: Install boot loader chooses wrong drive

2017-03-17 Thread Max
Hey Phillip. Appreciate your response, but that's only if you go through
the "Something else"/Advanced partition editor branch of the installer.
If you go through the "Erase disk and install Ubuntu" install mode
instead, there's no choice or warning that sda's bootloader will be
overwritten. And since I don't want to fiddle with creating partitions,
it makes sense to choose the "Erase disk and install Ubuntu" branch.

(As an aside, it's also confusing that the "Install Now" button does not
in fact trigger the installation -- it spawns a popup warning about
partitions that are about to be written. I'd expect it to be either
"Continue" or "Install...")

[Bug 1673903] Re: package runit 2.1.2-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2017-03-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello; I'm pretty sure runit is never going to work well on systems
using systemd as the init. I suggest apt-get purge runit and deleting
whatever other packages brought in runit -- they probably won't work
well either.

Thanks

2017-03-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Please include a version guard in this, so that if the user insists on
setting the address to [::]:69, we aren't constantly rewriting it.
Compare the block of code immediately above:

[Bug 1673904] [NEW] update-secureboot-policy --enable does not work after dkms modules removed

2017-03-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

If I have disabled secureboot on my system via update-secureboot-policy
due to the presence of dkms modules, but subsequently remove these dkms
modules because I decide I don't like not having secureboot, I cannot
re-enable SB by running 'update-secureboot-policy --enable'.

I think either the check for /var/lib/dkms should only apply when
update-secureboot-policy is called without arguments, or this check
should be encoded in the shim-signed postinst so that manual calls from
the commandline DWIM.

[Bug 1673817] Re: update-secure-boot-policy behaving badly with unattended-upgrades

2017-03-17 Thread Steve Langasek
Per my last comment on IRC, I think 'exit 1' is actually better here
because we aren't taking the specified action. grub calls update-
secureboot-policy || true, but that just sets the trigger anyway. shim-
signed calls without the || true, and so the trigger will fail under
this condition. But ultimately it's going to fail no matter what, we're
better off failing immediately instead of only when someone notices the
full logs and kills the process.

[Bug 1654008] Re: /usr/bin/update-manager:OverflowError:/usr/bin/update-manager@117

2017-03-17 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ The launch-time key is only designed to hold a 32 bit integer and some day
that won't work. Additionally, a lot of people (based off the quantity of
crash reports) seem to have their clocks misconfigured (or are living in the
future!) which is causing a crash when update-manager tries to write the last
launch time.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1) In a terminal run 'faketime -f '+43y' /usr/bin/update-manager'.
+ 2) Observe a traceback
+
+ With the version of update-manager from -proposed you will no longer
+ receive a traceback. The update-notifier change just supports reading
+ the 64 bit integer key and there are no crashes yet because its not
+ trying to read a 64 bit as 32 bits.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Its possible the breaks and depends are incorrect and that people would
receive a crash trying to read a 64 bit key as 32 bits. So double check those
carefully.
+
The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
update-manager. This problem was most recently seen with package version
1:16.10.8, the problem page at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/6d5b9fd57622f69dc32248c49512ee8fe29b24b3
contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or
traceback, and individual crash reports.
If you do not have access to the Ubuntu Error Tracker you can request it at
http://forms.canonical.com/reports/.

[Bug 1673258] Re: Remove aptdaemon and drop or port its reverse-dependencies

2017-03-17 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Would be quite cool to make the language-selector use "localization" AppStream
components to detect missing locale... That would also make it work easily with
PackageKit.
=>
https://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/sect-Metadata-Localization.html

This would require some bigger effort though to generate the appropriate
metadata (I will look into it though, since long-term I would like to
have a solution like this at Debian as well).

[Bug 1623856] Re: Scrolled Windows in update-manager are too small to read

2017-03-17 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

    * Expanding the scrolled windows for download progress or technical
details in update-manager are just one line high, making them
  unreadable.

  [ Test Case ]

    * Install Ubuntu 16.10 final or 17.04 daily.
    * Open update-manager and wait for it to refresh.
-   * Expand the technical details, you'll see the scrolled window is just one
line high. (This exercises update-manager)
-   * Install the updates, expand the Details while updates are downloaded.
Again you'll see the scrolled window is just one line high. (This exercises
aptdaemon.gtk3widgets)
+ * Select an update from the "Details of updates" section
+   * Then expand the "Technical description", you'll see the scrolled window
is just one line high. (This exercises update-manager)
+ * Choose to install an update, preferably a large one, and click "Install"
+ * While the update(s) are downloading click the "Details" expander
+ * You'll see the scrolled window is just one line high. (This exercises
aptdaemon)

After installing the patched aptdaemon and update-manager packages
following the same steps will result in both scrolled windows defaulting
to several lines of readable output.

  [ Regression Potential ]

    * None.
- * racb: a mistake in the patch could cause the window appearance to screw
up in some other way.

[Bug 1673625] Re: 10-globally-managed-devices.conf contained in wrong package

2017-03-17 Thread Unit 193
Right, I gathered that part. But then again so are things like resolved
and snap which I consider optional (and the former has been breaking DNS
in my VMs, 10-dns-resolved.conf made it more fun.)

I considered, based on the logic of "this configuration 'comes' for
another package and breaks this package" should be enough, but yes I've
had to track down as to why I had no networking with NM installed.

I am on the current 17.04 nightly release and have intermitting system wide DNS

anything I do at all.
Sometimes Internet will work fine for a certain time and then the connection
will fail with a DNS error.

[Bug 1571199] Re: vlc broken with latest libupnp

2017-03-17 Thread Core Ghost
A dirty workaround is to disable the beloved ipv6 temporally:

echo 1 | sudo tee /proc/sys/net/ipv6/conf/all/disable_ipv6

You can also create a virtual interface without ipv6 support in an ad-
hoc namespace and spawn vlc within it.

[Bug 1673836] Bug is not a security issue

2017-03-17 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1672297] Re: gnome-shell leaks RAM, almost 2 GiB RSS after 4 days

2017-03-17 Thread Cliff Carson
Saw what appeared to be a memory leak in gnome-shell so set up a pidstat
trace to see the memory activity. Added this trace text the monitored
thought the day. The increase in memory usage appears to be consistent
and not related to what activity being done on the system. Most of the
morning and early afternoon the system was unused.

[Bug 1133477] Re: cut-n-paste move files got stuck forever

2017-03-17 Thread John Smith
Just ran into this issue moving a paltry 48 files. After hanging for
five minutes I hit cancel and it continued to hang for another 10
minutes. Now instances of caja can't get directory listings. `caja -q`
to shut caja down and now I can get listings again. If I F3 in Caja and
drag-and-drop the files, they move instantly.

Affects (at least) 53 people. Status: Confirmed. Importance: Undecided.
Assigned to: Unassigned. Makes sense.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1668724] Re: fails to mount cgroupfs inside containers running on 16.04

2017-03-17 Thread Serge Hallyn
Sorry, this got lost in my inbox. I used dput. I seemed to recall that
in some recent cycle the it became either ok or preferred to use
$release-updates instead of $release-proposed in SRUs. I can trivially
change it ack to yakkety-proposed if preferred.

For Trusty, I just noticed that the non-backports version was so old
noone could really be using it (and AIUI trusty-backport is enabled by
default).
