[Bug 1671612] Re: Software app only shows explicitly compatible GNOME Shell extensions

2017-04-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ Only gnome-shell extensions explicitly marked as compatible with the
+ running gnome-shell version are shown in the Addons category in gnome-
+ software.
+
+ This is a problem when a beta version of gnome- shell is packaged.
+
+ It's a problem when a new gnome-shell version is first released because
+ it takes time for developers to test the extension and mark it as
+ compatible. It's also a problem because gnome-software only checks for
+ extension updates every 7 days.
+
+ Some extensions still work but haven't been updated in a very long time.
+
+ More discussion on the attached GNOME bug, particularly comment 7 and at
+ GNOME bug 776460
+
+
+ Original Bug Report
+ ---
+ Update: This behavior was because gnome-shell was a 3.23 development snapshot
and no extensions at extensions.gnome.org were marked as being explicitly
compatible with that version.
+
GNOME Software 3.22 includes a plugin to show GNOME Shell extensions
  when GNOME Shell is running.

On the home page, click Add-Ons.

Except that the Add-Ons button is not showing up here.

[Bug 1599331] Re: mate-screensaver won't start when using Marco + Compton

2017-04-01 Thread Etienne Papegnies
Just tested this on a full 17.04 installation on bare metal, using the
same PM and screensaver settings that are showing the bug in 16.04.

Was not able to reproduce: the screen fades to black and correctly
locks.

However, the "floating mate" screensaver is not starting for some
reason.

[Bug 1658921] Re: NetworkManager does not manage wired connection

2017-04-01 Thread Sami Olmari
Maybe this behaviour should be tied for example into one installing
ubuntu-desktop package or equivalent? While it is true that for example
in server machine having NetworkManager and it controlling stuff is
generally not wanted behaviour, but when user install ubuntu in "not
official" way, like debootstrap that is needed for "ZFS as root
partition" installation currently, all user has first is base minimum
setup and then if wanted to install ubuntu GUI, one uses basically "apt-
get install ubuntu-desktop"... I think that should be deciding factor to
have NM managing devices or not.

In any way, if NM is managing devices, an update in general should not
change that, or ofcourse other way round too, status quo should stay.

[Bug 1668106] Re: Touchpad not detected on Acer Aspire ES15 ES1-523-44LU

2017-04-01 Thread Matt Damon
So im using an Acer Aspire as well. I wanted to upgrade from Windows 8.1
to Windows 10. Long story short, it didnt happen and I was left with no
bootable drives. Figured Id download Ubuntu 14 LTS. First time around, I
couldn't use my touchpad. I tried playing around with BIOS as well as
playing around with the settings from the Ubuntu LTS. But, I could not
for the life of me figure out why it wasnt working. Post-installation of
Ubuntu 14, my computer takes about 2 hours to boot, only for the
terminal to show a ton of Red errors. I try again, only this time using
UEFI. The touchpad works, only problem is that Ubuntu is a pain in the
ass to install using UEFI when going from Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10
to Ubuntu theres a ton of extra steps you have to do. The problem that I
think you're looking at is the same thing I went through, try booting
your computer using UEFI and then if needed you can return to Legacy
BIOS.

[Bug 1678538] [NEW] can't upgrade from 12.04 latest to 14.04.5

2017-04-01 Thread Kent McNaughton
Public bug reported:

The upgrade from 12.04 Precise to 14.04.05 fails with a "Could not calculate
the upgrade" error. Though I don't believe I'm running "Unofficial software
packages not provided by Ubuntu," I can't be certain of this, as I've been
running 12.04 now for five years on this machine. How to tell if this could be
the problem? After using the GUI "Update Manager", I've run "sudo apt-get
update", "sudo apt-get upgrade", and "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade". The response
is "Calculating upgrade... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded."

I'm running Ubuntu 3.2.0-125-generic #168-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 on a several
year old Intel CPU.

[Bug 1658996] Re: welcome stays empty

2017-04-01 Thread Utz
Before I did see the last comment I did some more tests. I upgraded vbox
(from 5.1.16 to 5.1.18) together with the guest additions. This removed
the library loading problem. Next I did set the font-dpi=96 so this
warning goes away too (it anyway defaults to 96 ...)

Here is the current output:

I will try with a fresh install eventually if I do find the time. BTW I
installed - on the same day - a physical machine with the same 17.04 dev
build and never faced that problem. Seams it is a combination of
vboxvideo and WebKitWebView.

[Bug 1658996] Re: welcome stays empty

2017-04-01 Thread Luke Horwell
Unfortunately, there isn't much on Welcome's end that can be done to
"fix" this.

This strange (and difficult to diagnose) issue is caused by external
libraries failing leading to a segfault/error with the WebKitWebView
process, which is responsible for rendering the window.

On some other software I maintain, another user had a blank screen issue
like this, but it was caused by a library named "libc". Bizarrely, the
issue went away after their system (16.04) was updated.

The "DPI out of range" is just a warning, this isn't the problem.

As this is affecting a development build (17.04), please could you try
again on a fresh install of 17.04?

RE: [Bug 1647389] Re: Regression: Live migrations can still crash after CVE-2016-5403 fix

2017-04-01 Thread Len
I also forgot to mention in our case it didn't matter if the migration
was tunneled or not, and turning off the memory stats before migration
in virsh didn't help at all. Did not have access to the instance to try
playing around with blnsrvr.exe though.

I just tested removing CVE-2016-5403-3.patch, but that didn't seem to do
it. I still don't understand how upsteam qemu functions with the
calculation the way it is.

Title:
Regression: Live migrations can still crash after CVE-2016-5403 fix

Status in qemu package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in qemu source package in Xenial:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Libvirt migrations using tunnelled libvirt cause a failure to
migrate on the destination with error VQ 2 size 0x80 < last_avail_idx
  0x9 - used_idx 0xa

   * TBD: justification for backporting the fix to the stable release.
   * TBD: In addition, it is helpful, but not required, to include an
explanation of how the upload fixes this bug.

  [Test Case]
  1. Create a VM on shared storage solution. In my case NFS.
  2. set start_libvirtd="yes" in /etc/default/libvirt-bin
  3. systemctl restart libvirt-bin
  4. virsh dommemstat 1
  4. virsh -c qemu+ssh://${FROM}/system migrate --live --p2p --tunnelled ${VM}
qemu+tcp://ubuntu@${TO}/system
  5. Repeat until failure to migrate, then check /var/log/libvirt/qemu/.log
for error from above.

  * Yes --live, --p2p, and --tunnelled are all required to reproduce
  afaik.

  [Regression Potential]
  TBD
   * discussion of how regressions are most likely to manifest as a result of
this change.
   * It is assumed that any SRU candidate patch is well-tested before
upload and has a low overall risk of regression, but it's important
to make the effort to think about what ''could'' happen in the
 event of a regression.
   * This both shows the SRU team that the risks have been considered,
and provides guidance to testers in regression-testing the SRU.

  [Other Info]
  TBD
   * Anything else you think is useful to include
   * Anticipate questions from users, SRU, +1 maintenance, security teams and
the Technical Board
   * and address these questions in advance

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Bodhi Linux
Release:16.04
Codename: xenial

This resulted in me being unable to load the module gv in python:

bodhi@bodhi-VirtualBox:~$ python
Python 2.7.12 (default, Nov 19 2016, 06:48:10)
[GCC 5.4.0 20160609] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import gv
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "", line 1, in
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gv.py", line 28, in
_gv = swig_import_helper()
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gv.py", line 20, in swig_import_helper
import _gv
ImportError: No module named _gv

The inability to load module gv in python broke images being built in
python-efl. The fix was to restore a proper link:

sudo ln -s libgv_python27.i386-linux-gnu.so _gv.i386-linux-gnu.so

I have documented this problem on Bodhi's forums and while I could fix
said deb file and upload it to Bodhis repo I feel it is best to report
the issue upstream, hence here. SEE
http://forums.bodhilinux.com/index.php?/topic/14275-i386-python-efl-
docs-wrong-symlink-gvi686-linux-gnuso/

For the record this seems to be a 386 version of the issue (LP:
#1583897)

[Bug 1654335] Re: Please remove get-iplayer from all future Ubuntu releases

2017-04-01 Thread Steve Langasek
Thanks for the report. It appears that the get-iplayer package in
Ubuntu is inherited directly from Debian. Have you spoken to the Debian
maintainer about this?

Shipping in a PPA only suffers from the problem that users must discover
the PPA, establish that it's trustable, and manually enable it. On
Ubuntu 14.04 and later, we now also support the 'snap' store, which
allows upstreams to deliver application packages directly to users on
their own schedule, independently of Ubuntu releases. If this is of
interest to you, you can read about it at . We
could also work with you to provide an automatic upgrade path from the
out-of-date .debs in stable releases to your supported upstream snap
(something which we could not automate for a PPA).
