Actually if possible this should become so good that we can drop the
/dev/usb addition to apparmor that we have.

[Bug 1591134] Re: system-config-kickstart only allows eth0 etc...

2017-05-17 Thread Jb
For me, if I have one network device it magically maps to eth0 and it
works.

However, if there are more than Ethernet devices then nothing is mapped
to eth0 and it doesn't work. And by doesn't work, I mean the installer
crashes.

To duplicate just set to eth0 in kickstart and boot a VirtualBox virtual
machine with two Intel Ethernet adapters.

Work around is to manually edit the kickstart file:

Original line:
network --bootproto=dhcp --device=eth0

fixed line:
network --bootproto=dhcp --device=auto

[Bug 1691636] [NEW] Incorrect timestamps on unzipped files.

2017-05-17 Thread Chris Karel
Public bug reported:

Description of problem:

Unzip will sometimes round up timestamps of unpacked files. This
results in a 1-second difference between the timestamp shown via zipinfo
-T, and the unzipped file on disk

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Zip files with different timestamps.
2. Note the timestamps stored in the archive with `zipinfo -T`
3. Unzip the archive
4. Compare the timestamps with `ls --full-time`
5. Note a difference of 1 second on some files.

Actual results:
Timestamps are off by a second on some files

Expected results:
Timestamps should match between zipinfo and ls.

Example -- note the timestamps on file "2"

[Bug 1347726] Re: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions"

2017-05-17 Thread Jb
This is a really annoying bug. In my opinion there is no good really to
mount /dev/sda1, the /boot partition from my previous install...

I was able to work around the bug by adding this to the %pre section in
the kickstart config:

# -- Hack starts! block installer mounting /dev/sda1 on /media
# We do this...by mounting the install media (/dev/sd0 or /dev/sd?) onto /media
first!
# so when the installer tries it's bad mount it silently fails
INSTALL_MEDIA=$(mount | grep /cdrom | grep -E -o '/dev/[^ ]*')
mount "$INSTALL_MEDIA" /media
# -- Hack ends

This might also work around the 33% partition freeze on /dev/sda1...I can't
trigger that any more so can't test it.

[Bug 1449001] Re: systemd-resolved: please do not use Google public DNS by default

2017-05-17 Thread Anders Kaseorg
In fact, having recently disabled FallbackDNS for myself, I find that I
get no DNS at all maybe a quarter of the time I reboot my system. This
suggests that systemd-resolved might be silently relying on the 8.8.8.8
fallback much more often than even I suggested above.

Can we try disabling FallbackDNS for this development cycle? (Then,
once it becomes clear exactly how broken the DNS situation in Ubuntu has
become, can we please get rid of this systemd-resolved nonsense for
good?)

[Bug 1691620] [NEW] Recommend instead of depend on gnome-software-plugin-snap?

2017-05-17 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

When I packaged gnome-software 3.22 for Ubuntu, I had it depend on
gnome-software-plugin-snap because it should be installed by default in
Ubuntu, right?

gnome-software 3.24 now has separate appstream metadata for the various
gnome-software plugins. This allows users to easily enable or disable
addons by clicking the checkbox on the details page for an app. What's
interesting to me is that the Addons don't show up on the Details page
if they are provided in the same package as the app itself.

Today, I moved the appstream metadata for the Snap and Flatpak addons to
their plugin packages. One benefit is it now very easy for someone to
enable Flatpak support.

There's one problem right now. If a user unclicks the checkbox next to
"Snappy Support", gnome-software will be installed since it Depends on
the Snap plugin.

We could:
1) Change Depends: gnome-software-plugin-snap to Recommends:
gnome-software-plugin-snap, or
2) Move the Snap addon metadata back to the gnome-software package so that it
Snap support is not removable in gnome-software

Any objection to #1?

[Bug 1689008] Re: package should be installed by default on xubuntu

2017-05-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1689040] Re: report

2017-05-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 1691110] Re: why this notebook have a bug

Thanks!

[Bug 1690698] Re: firefox is using massive amounts of memory whilst online, over 3GB, with two tabs open, no add ons or extras...

[Bug 1691228] Re: Rthymbox window does not open

2017-05-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for the bug report! Unfortunately, it looks like you're having
hardware issues that could be the cause of the bug that you're
experiencing. I see a lot of I/O errors in the JournalErrors.txt
attachment. I'm afraid there's nothing that an Ubuntu developer can take
action on so I'm marking this bug as invalid. I hope you're able to
straighten out the hardware problems.

+
  I have a Sennheiser MM 450-X headset.

In 15.10, connection & playback was straightforward.

In 16.04, the headset connects, and shows up as default playback device
on `pavucontrol`, but there is no sound.

A functional workaround is to, after having connected it, to go the
`Configuration` tab, and in the `Profile` dropdown, to choose `...
HSP/HFP`, which will make them play as expected (but in low quality),
then switch to `... A2DP Sink` (they will play in high quality).

[Bug 1691614] [NEW] please enable CONFIG_ARM64_LSE_ATOMICS

2017-05-17 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Performance is lowered for ARM >= v8.1 cpus by not taking advantage of the
"Large System Extenstion" atomic instructions they provide.

Note: This config was enabled during xenial development, but was
disabled to workaround a FTBFS[*] due to us not having a new enough
binutils to support it. binutils was later updated in xenial, and
supports these instructions.

[Test Case]
TBD

[Regression Risk]
There is a known small performance overhead for <= ARMv8.1 arm64 systems (noted
in the Kconfig).
[...TBD...]

[Bug 1691531] Re: Security vulnerabilities in openvpn in 16.04LTS

2017-05-17 Thread Tyler Hicks
Hi Jeff - Thanks for the bug report! We've released an update for these
issues in Ubuntu 17.04, which is the only stable Ubuntu release that
CVE-2017-7478 affected. CVE-2017-7479 also affects all stable Ubuntu
releases before 17.04 but we rated it as a 'low' and, therefore, we
won't release security updates unless a higher severity issue is found
in openvpn. This is to reduce the chance of regression in an update that
only addresses a low impact security issue.

We published an Ubuntu Security Notice for the Ubuntu 17.04 update:

  https://www.ubuntu.com/usn/usn-3284-1/

We also tweeted about it:

  https://twitter.com/ubuntu_sec/status/864243702042177536

I hope you'll find one of those information feeds helpful.

[Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-05-17 Thread Ehsan Akhgari
My apologies, I think I was confused before. I saw another hang with
similar symptoms and I think confirmation bias made me assume I'm seeing
this bug again without double checking everything carefully. Sorry
about that!

Now I verified I'm running the right kernel, I'll report if I see the
original hang I first reported in Bug #1687267:

[Bug 1583164] Re: Panel Indicator uses 25% cpu

2017-05-17 Thread Akom
Changing themes fixed this for me on Ubuntu 17.04, as per #3 above
(Settings->Appearance->Styles).

Radiance/Ambiance themes: high cpu usage.
All others: no problem.

Other suggestions did not work for me:
I don't have a ~/.config/gtk-3.0/*.css that was mentioned in #9.
I am already using a Notification Area, as mentioned in #7.
