[Bug 1685190] Re: Intermittent wireless network problem with RTL8821AE and 802.11n/EWC

2017-05-21 Thread Richard Andrews
I think I am also seeing the same behaviour on my wife's laptop.
rtl8821ae wifi. Asus F555LA. Only a recent occurrence, after software
update circa end April early May 2017. Same behaviour for two different
wifi routers.

I don't have much opportunity to gather debugging but wanted to add a
data point.

[Bug 1692398] [NEW] Input error can lead to continuous searches

2017-05-21 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
An input error (e.g. a key being continuously pressed) in the gnome-software
search field can lead to continuous searches being sent via snapd. This is
beuause there is no limit in this search field.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Click search button
3. Continuously press and release 't'

Expected result:
Searches stop after a reasonable time.

Observed result:
Searches are continuously generated for each key press.

[Regression potential]
Low. The field is now limited to 100 characters and searches stop after this
limit.

Now when I reboot I get the panic email.
Would you like the config file?

[Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-05-21 Thread pauljohn32
This should be marked "SOLVED!".

It appears that newcomers are arriving at this ticket to report same old
problem, without realizing it has been fixed in a replacement kernel
offered by Seth Forshee. The problem is now understood and there is no
need to guess about installing alternative kernels from whatever
repository. Seth's kernel fixed it. Look up to comment 108:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1674838/comments/108

I've been running this alternative for weeks and the problem has not
reappeared.

[Bug 1692386] [NEW] Background picture turns to noise

2017-05-21 Thread b49P23TIvg
Public bug reported:

The background image should be a photo of my late dog, and it was until
some update or upgrade probably in March, anyway the problem began
before the Ubuntu 17.04 release. Immediately after I login the image is
correct, and then I start emacs, thunderbird and chrome, and not long
after the image turns to noise. As you can see, the window frame
buttons have vanished as well and the usability becomes a bit of
guesswork and skill.

[Bug 1692378] Re: Text in add-on "Messaging Menu and Unity Launcher integration" for Thunderbird doesn't fit to preferences

2017-05-21 Thread Paul White
Seems fine using Xubuntu 17.10 so may be a problem with the theme rather
than with Thunderbird.

Sam, please advise which version/flavour of Ubuntu you are using.

Removing assignee as that is for the developer that will actually fix
the issue.

[Bug 1692373] [NEW] shim fails to load MokManager (mmx64.efi) in the case of unsigned grub

2017-05-21 Thread Mikhail Kshevetskiy
Public bug reported:

[see debian bug #860716 as well]

I test shim-signed with qemu in secure boot environment. Here is the steps
to reproduce a problem:

1) install shim, shim-signed, qemu and ovmf packages

2) get EnrollDefaultKeys.efi from

https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/development/rawhide/Workstation/x86_64/os/Packages/e/edk2-ovmf-20170209git296153c5-3.fc27.noarch.rpm

3) create a efi_test directory with shim binaries, grub and
EnrollDefaultKeys.efi files

   mkdir efi_test
   cp /usr/lib/shim/{shimx64,mmx64,fbx64}.efi.signed efi_test/
   rename 's/[.]signed$//' efi_test/*

   cp /boot/efi/EFI/debian/grubx64.efi efi_test/[this step is
significant]

   cp EnrollDefaultKeys.efi efi_test/ [see step (2)]

4) so we have in efi_test/

   LANG=C ls -la efi_test/

   drwxr-xr-x 2 kl kl4096 Apr 19 12:10 .
   drwxr-xr-x 5 kl kl4096 Apr 19 11:52 ..
   -rw-r--r-- 1 kl kl   20032 Apr 19 11:55 EnrollDefaultKeys.efi
   -rw-r--r-- 1 kl kl   72144 Apr 19 11:52 fbx64.efi
   -rwxr-xr-x 1 kl kl  121856 Apr 19 12:10 grubx64.efi
   -rw-r--r-- 1 kl kl 1168464 Apr 19 12:05 mmx64.efi
   -rw-r--r-- 1 kl kl 1169528 Apr 19 11:52 shimx64.efi

5) run qemu with ovmf firmware

   qemu-system-x86_64 -m 1024 -enable-kvm -machine q35,smm=on,accel=kvm \
  -bios /usr/share/ovmf/OVMF.fd \
  -drive media=disk,file=fat:rw:efi_test

6) import microsoft keys and enable secure boot (from EFI shell)

   Shell> fs0:
   FS0:\> EnrollDefaultKeys.efi
   info: SetupMode=1 SecureBoot=0 SecureBootEnabled=0 CustomMode=0 VendorKeys=1
   info: SetupMode=0 SecureBoot=1 SecureBootEnabled=1 CustomMode=0 VendorKeys=0
   info: success

7) reboot virtual machine (from EFI shell)

   FS0:\> reset

8) run shim (from EFI shell)

   Shell> fs0:
   FS0:\> shimx64.efi

9) expected result:

   MokManager (mmx64.efi) will be started

10) actual result:

Verification failed: (15) Access Denied

Failed to load image: Access Denied
start_image() returned Access Denied
start_image() returned Access Denied

and we back to EFI shell.

Thus it's not possible to install user keys or add user
loader to trusted binary database.

[Bug 1692354] Re: +1 (884)~331~1999 canon customer support number +1 (844) 331-1999

2017-05-21 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1692354/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-05-21 Thread JOSHUA CRUNK
Mint Cinnamon 18.1 user here. Just mentioning that so as to make it
easier for other people doing a Google search to find this thread, since
it was pretty hard for me to find. Same problem as everyone else,
swapops.h:129!. For me particularly, khugepaged goes to Uninterruptible
Sleep (D) state when writing a bunch of files to usb drive, then a lot
of stuff quits working, like Firefox, then a complete lockup soon after.
Have to reset computer via power button. Switching kernel away from any
4.10.x available in Mint to 4.8.0-52 seems to fix it.

[Bug 1637247] Re: Doesn't work properly after installation (and fix)

2017-05-21 Thread RJ Clay
This was resolved with the upload to Debian of 1.3.47-1 a year ago and
subsequent migration to Ubuntu. That 1.3.x series version has since been
replaced by the 1.4.x series; for instance, 1.4.32+ds-1 which is in Ubuntu
16.10 (Yakkety). The most recent version of that series in Ubuntu is
1.4.41+ds-1.
The most recent versions are also generally available at the LedgerSMB
launchpad PPA at:
https://launchpad.net/~ledgersmb/+archive/ubuntu/main

** Changed in: ledgersmb (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Released

[Bug 1692353] [NEW] systemd-fsckd : useless CR displayed on console

2017-05-21 Thread Laurent
Public bug reported:

Hello,

My system is "Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS" (grep DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION /etc/lsb-
release).

The systemd package is installed:
  $ dpkg -l | grep systemd
  > systemd 229-4ubuntu17

I noticed that approximately 15 seconds after the boot, a useless
Carriage Return ('\r') is displayed on the console (/dev/console).
This character interacts with the display of the user currently logued in
on the console. This screws the current line, when users is pressing keys.

After monitoring system activity, I found the culprit:
  /lib/systemd/system/systemd-fsckd.service

To test, run:
  service systemd-fsckd stop# In case, it is still running.
  service systemd-fsckd start
Go to the console, wait for approximately 15 seconds, and you see the cursor
jumping from its current position to the beginning of the line. This is the BUG.
Note: the console is not the X11 terminal (xterm, lxterminal, etc.) ; the
console is the text tty reached with Control-Alt-F1.

The systemd-fsckd.service starts the following daemon:
  /lib/systemd/systemd-fsckd
This is the daemon which displays two useless '\r' characters.

I went to:
  http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/systemd

I downloaded:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/systemd/systemd_229-4ubuntu10.debian.tar.xz

The file debian/patches/fsckd-daemon-for-inter-fsckd-communication.patch
contains:
+static int manager_write_console(Manager *m, const char *message) {
[...]
+if (message) {
+fprintf(console, "\r%s\r%n", message, );
+if (m->clear  < (size_t)l)
+m->clear = (size_t)l;
+} else {
+fputc('\r', console);
+for (j = 0; j < m->clear; j++)
+fputc(' ', console);
+fputc('\r', console);
+}

So, when no message was previously displayed, "m->clear" is still set to
0.

Then, when the program ends it calls:
+/* clear last line */
+manager_write_console(m, NULL);

However, in the "else" above, two '\r' characters are displayed, surrounding
no space characters.

So, when no message was previously displayed, there is nothing to clear, so
no '\r' character to display.

A trivial patch is attached. It is untested.

** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: "patch_to_remove_useless_cr.patch"

[Bug 1692330] Re: firefox hangs using 100% cpu

2017-05-21 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Managed to put my finger on the pattern. Had something to do with stored
passwords. Tried to import stored passwords with Chromium and the same
thing happened. It's probably a corrupted sqlite file. :-(

Moved away the firefox folder in .mozilla and the problem went away.

[Bug 1692296] Re: Upgrade from 16.04 to 16.10 fails

2017-05-21 Thread Pascal S
After some further investigation, the problem was due to some unsolved
dependencies, that strangely not appeared in synaptic package manager. After
removal and reinstallation of a bunch of packages the upgrade went fine.
May be the error message returned by the upgrade process in such cases could be
more detailed, for instance by outputting the faulty packages.
