Hi Pranav,
sometimes there are upstream commits about kernel compatibility - those have to 
be backported.
I can't promise the one we fixed here is the one for your particular case - in 
general we have one about every ~2-4 months.
This change here in particular was different as it was not a usual patch by 
DPDK for the modules, but instead a change in how we call our build.

I am having the same issues even with the newer Kernel,
4.4.0-79-generic.

Like others have mentioned above, I can mess with the settings and
sometimes "it gets it" and other times it just causes the whole machine
to lock up and I have to force reboot it.  Even when the monitors do
show up in xrandr - they are blank with the no signal screen.  Messing
with the settings becomes a 50/50 but even if it does "manage to find
it", the moment you have to walk away, or the screen goes to sleep, its
not coming back.  Here is a screen shot of the error I get sometimes,
other times, there is no error and the machine just locks.

I am also on a Dell E7250
Intel Core i5-5300
Intel HD Graphics 5500 Broadwell GT2

I have modified the nodm.service to get better control of the process (The 
faulting was also happening with original nodm.service, but it was less 
visible):

Hello.

I've got a critical problem with my computer, and i don't know why.
The file system suddenly becomes read-only.
All application (chrome, firefox and idea) that i use turn off and i can't even 
reboot. This trouble happens 3, 4 or 5 times a day (from 9 am to 18 pm)

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS is installed.

My Hard drive has been changed and i still got this trouble.

That happens to me also on Ubuntu Gnome 17.04. It's not random though
but rather when the screen shuts off after I leave the computer
inactive. When I turn the screen back on, it's 90 degrees clockwise (and
quite puzzling to get the mouse working to be able to reboot because of
muscle memory).

The bug is still there on ubuntu 16.04
In the journalctl logs openvswitch complains about connecting to its db while 
trying to raise NIC defined in the /etc/network/interfaces or 
/etc/network/interfaces.d/* and it slow down the process and create errors.

Steps to reproduce:
-Create OVS interface in the /etc/network/interfaces
E.g.: 
allow-ovs main_sw
auto main_sw
iface main_sw inet manual
ovs_type OVSBridge
-Reboot your computer
-Look at journalctl -b0 -r.

The new patched systemd unit nonetwork for zesty works well on xenial.

[Bug 1696415] [NEW] NetworkManager seems to drop IPv4 DHCP lease even though it was successfully renewed

I've found an issue on some of our Xenial office machines, causing
NetworkManager to drop its IP address lease in some cases when it
shouldn't. I'm not sure if the actual bug is in NetworkManager or
perhaps dbus or dhclient, but I'll do my best to help to figure out
where it is.

What appears to happen:
* NetworkManager is informed of a new IPv4 lease.
* During the lease, dhclient keeps it fresh by renewing it using DHCPREQUESTs 
regularly.
* In spite of this, NetworkManager drops the IP address from the interface when 
the last reported lease time expires.

This happens on various machines, once every few days. We are using a
failover DHCP configuration using two machines (192.168.0.3 'bonaire'
and 192.168.0.4 'curacao').


The machine where I've done the debugging is called 'pampus'
(192.168.0.166). As you can see in the logs, at 01:21:06 NetworkManager
reports a new lease with lease time 7200.

After this, dhclient is supposed to keep the lease fresh, which it does.
E.g. at 03:13:19 you can see a DHCPREQUEST and DHCPACK; I've seen this
DHCPACK in a tcpdump and it contains a new lease time of 7200 seconds.

However, at 03:21:07 (exactly 2 hours and 1 second after the last lease
reported by NetworkManager) Avahi and NTP report that the IP address is
gone:

So I suspect NetworkManager dropped the IP address from the interface,
because it wasn't informed by dhclient that the lease was renewed. The
logs don't explicitly say this, so I may have to turn on more verbose
debugging logs in NetworkManager or dhclient to verify this.

On my computer, if "unset GTK_MODULES", vim-gtk3 wouldn't crash.
Another software based on QT also crashed with GTK_MODULES set, and works well 
after "unset GTK_MODULES".
So I think vim-gtk3 is victim too.

I'm afraid SRU'ing only this particular change won't make (SRU approval)
it to -updates.

Ivy, if you can find another cups bug to fix and merge the two in one
SRU, I think you'll have better chance to get the SRU approval.

Unless you can actually show that not fixing this particular bug has a
significant impact.

you're right and let me rephrase in more detail:

The multiqueue feature is questioned here, but the feature has an impact to 
multipathing, because Ubuntu-Xenial boots up and has the multiqueue feature 
turned on as default(!!). You can run "multipathing" but you will have to turn 
off the multiqueue feature explicitely if you don't want to potentially run 
into the hang scenario described here.
And my recommendation would be to turn the "multiqueue" feature off by default 
for all Kernel versions prior to 4.11  that's what I wanted to express with 
my previous post.

So maybe one of those commits for Baytrail caused a regression on other Intel 
Graphics processors?

Another culprit seems to be Dell laptops... I'm on a Dell Latitude
E7470, other people mentioned them too, although it might just be
because it's a common brand.
