[Bug 1697348] [NEW] Java throws "mbind: Invalid argument" message when invoked with UseNUMA

2017-06-11 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

Problem Description

Java throws "mbind: Invalid argument" message when invoked with UseNUMA flag in
certain numa topologies with non-consecutive nodes.

---uname output---
not relevant

---Additional Hardware Info---
The JVM code used to discover which numa nodes it can bind assumes that nodes
are consecutive and tries to bind from 0 to numa_max_node(), i.e. 0 to the
highest node number available on the system. However, at least on PPC64 that
assumption is not always true. For instance, the following numa
topology:

available: 4 nodes (0-1,16-17)
node 0 cpus: 0 8 16 24 32
node 0 size: 130706 MB
node 0 free: 145 MB
node 1 cpus: 40 48 56 64 72
node 1 size: 0 MB
node 1 free: 0 MB
node 16 cpus: 80 88 96 104 112
node 16 size: 130630 MB
node 16 free: 529 MB
node 17 cpus: 120 128 136 144 152
node 17 size: 0 MB
node 17 free: 0 MB
node distances:
node 0 1 16 17
0: 10 20 40 40
1: 20 10 40 40
16: 40 40 10 20
17: 40 40 20 10

Machine Type = VM and BM

Steps to Reproduce
=
On an topology similar to the aforementioned numa topology just issue:
"java -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+UseNUMA -version"

[Bug 1696978] Re: Mir locking up when switching VTs

2017-06-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can't reproduce the bug using either the latest release or building
fresh from lp:mir.

Also, your attached stack trace seems to be incomplete(?) - there are
apparently no compositor threads, so nothing to redraw the screen :)

Can you collect the server log from when the problem occurs?

2017-06-11 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From arnol...@us.ibm.com 2017-06-11 23:26 EDT---
I've tested the fix from the PPA (version 1.3.1-2ubuntu0.3) and it appears to
resolve the issue. No functional issues were noted in my testing. Performance
of the drmgr query operation mentioned in the original bug report was less than
0.2 seconds, compared to 14 seconds with the old version.

[Bug 1669734] Re: Quality decrease in libgd3 with upgrade to 2.1.1-4ubuntu0.16.04.5

2017-06-11 Thread Roc
I had the same issue when using imagecopyresampled() to resize PNG
images with transparent background. It introduced subtle noise to the
transparent background in the resulting image. It looks like some kind
of rounding issue within the resampling algorithm.

As a temporary workaround, reverting libgd back to 2.1.1-4build2
resolves the problem.

[Bug 1697339] [NEW] rpc.gssd performs reverse DNS by default (regardless of -D flag)

2017-06-11 Thread forceps
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04

Package: nfs-common 1:1.2.8-9ubuntu12.1.0

This bug affects all active and proposed versions of nfs-common used by
ubuntu (as every version is based on nfs-utils_1.2.8) from trusty to
artful.

There is a small error in the code for rpc.gssd that causes it to always
perform reverse DNS when looking up the server name to pass to GSSAPI. This
causes a problem for NFS4 in environments where reverse DNS is correctly
configured. This has been confirmed in Debian and a more recent version of
nfs-utils that appears to have fixed this has been pushed to sid:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=803710

However, I do not know if that version of nfs-utils will make it to
ubuntu soon. Will it?

If not, the patch to this appears to be rather straightforward.
The error is an '== 1' instead of an '== 0' in two lines of gssd_proc.c that
are evaluated when the -D flag to rpc.gssd is not passed (and thus avoid_dns is
true)

Is there any way to get either 1) the updated version of nfs-utils or 2)
this patch applied to xenial (and, hopefully, other versions of ubuntu)?
Thank you for looking at this!

[Bug 1597961] Re: [Acer Aspire E5-573] Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth 4.0 not working on [Ubuntu 16.04

2017-06-11 Thread Antonio Vinicius Menezes Medeiros
Considering how much time (man-hour) I spent trying to make my built-in
Bluetooth adapter work on Linux, I decided it would be cheaper and
faster to buy an USB adapter that actually works on Linux. So, I went
out home with my laptop, tested an USB adapter and bought it. It is
really small and cheap, it costed me R$ 30,00 (something between $9 and
$10, according to today's exchange rates). It is able to transfer files
and play music. Its package says Babbage Bluetooth Version 3.0 BM-BT01,
it was made in China. On `lsusb`, it shows as `Cambridge Silicon Radio,
Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)`:

It does not work flawlessly as I think it should be. Pairing works on a
trial and error basis, but once devices are paired, they work as
expected. At least now I have a Bluetooth adapter that works on Linux.

Anyways, I'm thankful for the time you spent trying to help me and
giving me directions. Thank you!

[Bug 1694625] Re: KVM Guest loses network connectivity under heavy load

2017-06-11 Thread Barry Stokes
Since I have put monitoring in place it would appear that I haven't had
the issue again in 3 days.

This is rather frustrating as it was happening every night.

I'm going to dial back on some of the monitoring in case this was
prompting it to stay alive unexpectedly (as I don't think the option of
"run this script that keeps pinging stuff" is really a viable long term
solution to the issue).

I don't currently know a way of monitoring the packets/bytes per second
of a VM from the host so I'm going to move the ping/reboot script off
the quest and onto the host to see if this makes any difference. It's
possible that if it was keeping it alive when sending pings from the
guest, I may end up keeping it alive when sending to the guest as well.

If this turns out to be the case I'll kill the pinging off and just
leave the stats scripts running in the hope that it'll die at some stage
and I'll be able to work out when it did and what throughput was
happening at the time.

If there are any other suggestions on how I could do monitoring on this
I'd love to hear them.

I may also try swapping to the e1000 at some point if I can get it to
stop working again to prove that it's a virtio issue rather than
something more generic.

[Bug 1091464] Re: Unable to chainload Windows 8 and 10 with Secure Boot enabled

2017-06-11 Thread Chris Murphy
Fedora has fixed this problem differently than SUSE has, so it might be
worth Ubuntu devs taking a look at what they did and seeing if it's
applicable.

This is the complete git log for GRUB2 in Fedora:
http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/grub2.git/log/

I think this is the applicable commit:

[Bug 1438510] Re: [regression] Bluetooth audio no longer supports A2DP (stuck in HSP/HFP mode)

2017-06-11 Thread granjerox
Hello,

I've just upgraded pluseaudio with ppa from #66 and now my Q12 Bluetooth
headset always connect fine as with A2DP Sink. I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 by
the way.

Before the upgrade, I had to ensure to change profile back to HSP/HFP
before disconnecting, otherwise I had to do it, disconnect, connect
again and then set A2DP... really annoying.

Thanks for the fix, whatever it was.

[Bug 1676474] Re: Frescobaldi crashes when compiling

2017-06-11 Thread Hotteterre
Hi, John! Once you'll have downloaded the package from the link quoted
in my previous message, you'll can proceed to install right-clicking on
the package itself, and selecting from the menu «Open with Software
Installer» (or something of that kind: I'm not sure because I'm writing
from an Italian interface). In the Software Installer window, simply
click on the «Install» button.

Or, if you prefer: from a terminal, go to the folder in which you have
downloaded the package, and install it with the command

sudo dpkg -i

I hope it can be useful. If not, make me know if I can help you.

[Bug 1091464] Re: Unable to chainload Windows 8 and 10 with Secure Boot enabled

2017-06-11 Thread Juan Navarro
Adding myself to this bug. Not being able to do a clean installation of
Ubuntu alongside Windows (because then the Windows boot will break) is
against the Ubuntu philosophy of accessibility itself, and objectively
it is a complete regression in functionality.

[Bug 1697297] [NEW] blurry text in gedit 3.22 in zesty

2017-06-11 Thread Mohammad Anwar Shah
Public bug reported:

Gedit in Zesty is version 3.22 and an old bug has re-appeared in it.
This is the old bug link
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1309785

Using `GTK_DEBUG=no-pixel-cache` fixes the issue, but then there appear
another issue. In filechooser dialog, you can't see the column's
heading. I'm attaching a picture of this what is expected and what was
missing.

Output of `lsb_release -rd`

Description:Ubuntu 17.04
Release:17.04

Output of `apt policy gedit`

gedit:
