[Bug 1697829] Re: Upgrade Redpine WLAN/BT driver to ver. 1.2 (production release)
** Description changed: Upgrade the Redpine WLAN/BT RS9113 driver in Ubuntu Xenial kernel to ver. 1.2. This version is supposed to be a production release. [Bug 1699005] Re: Update to 1.13
** Description changed: [Impact] Older versions of Ubuntu are running older versions of snapd-glib. There have since been bug fixes and support for newer API that was added to snapd since release. [Test Case] - 1. Attempt to use new API in snapd-glib + 1. Delete existing Snap credentials by deleting keys com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.GnomeSoftware in Seahorse. + 2. Start GNOME Software + 3. Install a snap (e.g. moon-buggy) Expected result: - New API is available + User is prompted for Ubuntu credentials and is able to install snap. Observed result: - New API is not available + Works as expected (i.e. only looking for regressions). [Regression Potential] There is a risk of breaking existing use cases. This is reduced by the regression tests in the package and the newer versions of snapd-glib working in newer releases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699005 Title: Update to 1.13 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd-glib/+bug/1699005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1703490] Re: Unable to mount network volume on 17.10 Samba server
OK here is a fstab from one of my PCs running 17.10 and it tries to mount shares from two different computers: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # # Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a # device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices # that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5). # # # / was on /dev/sdb1 during installation UUID=0887068e-fc83-4a98-a90f-ccbfdecd8728 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1 # /home was on /dev/sdc1 during installation UUID=b6c98b89-941b-4e36-b91b-f011633ae70d /home ext4 defaults0 2 /swapfile noneswap sw 0 0 //192.168.1.173/media /mnt/share/mediapc/media cifs credentials=/home/patrick/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0 //192.168.1.116/maps /mnt/share/mainpc/maps cifs credentials=/home/patrick/.smbcredentials,iocharset=utf8,sec=ntlm 0 0 so mediapc is acting as a Samba server running 16.04 and this one mounts just fine, mainpc is acting as a Samba server running 17.10 and it always fails with error 13 permission denied. Both servers have exactly the same credentials needed so they use the same credentials file to provide those credentials to mount.cifs through the mount command. So it fails regardless of whether I let it do it at startup or if I type sudo mount -a to mount at any time of my choosing. I have yet to try out any of the other things we have tried with this computer so that will be my next step and based on so far it will probably succeed. On 13/07/17 04:53, Andreas Hasenack wrote: > It could be that, in the case where /etc/fstab is used, there are extra > options being passed to mount.cifs and that is what is causing the > difference in behaviour. > ** Description changed: I have a computer with a new 17.10 installation, and I have network resources on it that I want to share to other computers on my network, using Samba. I set it up the same way with Samba as I did with the old 16.04 installation, but all the other computers on the network that are running Xubuntu can't connect to it like they did before. The following are the user experiences of different computers in my network connecting to shared SMB resources on other computers: 16.04 client mount.cifs to 16.04 server: full access 16.04 client path run/user/1000/gvfs to 16.04 server: full access 17.10 client mount.cifs to 16.04 server: full access 16.04 client mount.cifs to 17.10 server: access denied error - 17.10 client mount.cifs to 16.04 server: access denied error + 17.10 client mount.cifs to 17.10 server: access denied error 16.04 client path run/user/1000/gvfs to 17.10 server: read only access Windows 10 client explorer map drive to 17.10 server: full access the server used to run 16.04 and is now running 17.10. It is the same computer and has the same network resources shared on it that it had when it was running 16.04. The server installation of 17.10 was a clean install but the home folder was existing on a different volume and was remounted after the install. As you can see a Windows 10 computer is the only computer in the network that can connect to the Samba share with full access and no apparent difference in the user experience. [Bug 1686393] Re: [MIR] gdm3
I reviewed gdm3 version 3.24.2-1ubuntu2 as checked into artful. This should not be considered a full security audit but a quick gauge of maintainability. UCT has two CVEs: first, holding esc key allowed bypassing the lock screen. Second, one REJECTed CVE that was assigned for the usual "desktop visible shortly after suspend" issue that for some reason everyone is affected by all the time. (It may not be user-friendly but locking before suspending is the usual Linux way to make sure it's locked when re-waking.) - gdm3 is a login/lock display manager - Build-Depends: gnome-pkg-tools, debhelper, dconf-cli, intltool, libdbus-glib-1-dev, libglib2.0-dev, libgtk-3-dev, libpango1.0-dev, libcanberra-gtk3-dev, libfontconfig1-dev, libaccountsservice-dev, gnome-settings-daemon-dev, gnome-settings-daemon, libnss3-dev, libxcb1-dev, libx11-dev, libxau-dev, libxt-dev, libxext-dev, check, libgirepository1.0-dev, gobject-introspection, libpam0g-dev, libkeyutils-dev, libxdmcp-dev, libwrap0-dev, libxft-dev, libxi-dev, libxinerama-dev, libplymouth-dev plymouth-dev, yelp-tools, libselinux1-dev, libattr1-dev, iso-codes, libaudit-dev, docbook-xml, gsettings-desktop-schemas, libsystemd-dev, xserver-xorg-dev - Does not itself do encryption - Appears it still supports xdmcp - pre-inst file deletes /etc/pam.d/gdm-launch-environment if upgrading from 3.10.0.1-3~ or earlier - pre-rm file has very involved script to manage debconf and systemd service files - post-inst file has involved script to add gdm group and user, manage debconf, systemd service files, convert gsettings to gconf, and restart gdm3 via invoke-rc.d - post-rm file removes init scripts, /etc files, /var/*/gdm3 directories, gdm user, gdm group, and manages debconf - initscript starts systemd logind, rebuilds configuration, uses start-stop-daemon to run gdm3 - systemd unit checks with /etc/X11/default-display-manager before running, loads in the environment from /etc/default/locale - Fairly complicated dbus interfaces - No setuid executables - gdm-screenshot gdm3 and gdmflexiserver executables in the PATH - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - Processes spawned extensively via glib wrappers. I didn't see any cases of unsafe data being mishandled but the amount of extra overhead in each execution is surprising. - Memory management looked careful if wasteful. - File management may suffer from leaky abstractions: e.g. create_auth_file() uses g_open() on the results of g_build_filename(), g_mkdir_with_parents(), and g_get_user_runtime_dir(), which doesn't have any error checking on most of these calls. (There's also no O_EXCL, O_NONBLOCK, O_NOCTTY, O_NOFOLLOW; I don't know if any of these would fit in the threat model of the application so they may not be security issues, but O_EXCL may be important for reliability.) Errors here appear to percolate to a NULL pointer added to an array in spawn_x_server() which will hopefully cause X to fail with an error ("expected argument" for the -auth parameter), but may have other consequences. - Extensive logging, looked safe. - Uses WAYLAND_DISPLAY RUNNING_UNDER_GDM GTK_MODULES DISPLAY XAUTHORITY GDM_SESSION_DBUS_ADDRESS GDM_SESSION_FOR_REAUTH XDG_VTNR WINDOWPATH PATH variables - Sets GTK_MODULES XORG_RUN_AS_USER_OK DISPLAY XAUTHORITY DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS WINDOWPATH WINDOWPATH PATH LOGNAME USER USERNAME HOME SHELL variables - Privileged operations sometimes do not check return errors - No cryptography - Temporary files appear to be created safely - No WebKit - Clean cppcheck (three cppcheck errors) - I didn't see polkit use Here's some notes I took while reading the source code: - 88 cases of "deprecation warning" - chown and chmod errors in the build logs (below) - chmod/chown in debian/: WARNING: debian/gdm3.postinst:chown -R gdm:gdm /var/lib/gdm3 - /bin/sh as shell in debian/: WARNING: debian/gdm3.prerm:#!/bin/bash - dh: unable to load addon gnome: Can't locate Debian/Debhelper/Sequence/gnome.pm in @INC (you may need to install the Debian::Debhelper::Sequence::gnome module) (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.22.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.22.1 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl5/5.22 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.22 /usr/share/perl/5.22 /usr/local/lib/site_perl /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl-base .) at (eval 13) line 2. jbicha reports the lintians are false positives [removed here], and filed: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/783079 (chown) https://bugzilla.gnome.org/783080 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/783081 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/783082 No response 48 days later. Was there any config provided when you did this? Seems like there are also all the service stop/start commands that should get attempted and fail (and these do throw exceptions). [Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6
1. It has been four months since this bug - it its original incarnation (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1671606) - was reported. 2. The bug is critical: it breaks security software. 3. The bug has been reported to Ubuntu, which has paid employees. 4. The bug is a regression and hence presumably not especially hard to fix. Inference from the conjunction of 1, 2 and 3: *this bug should have been fixed by now*. Yet, it has not. Nor has any explanation been provided as to why not, at least not here. Not has there been a shortage of people asking, politely, for a fix. Perhaps then a slightly more strident question is in order. To wit: **what gives?** This is the sort of unfixed major problem that drives people back to Windows and Mac OS.
