[Bug 1658345] Re: Touchpad not recognized on Lenovo Ideapad Flex 4 running Ubuntu 16.10

2017-08-16 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Okay, so the touchscreen issue is unrelated to touchpad. I'll send a
patch to enable the touchpad.

Also, Mark said the touchscreen works on 4.13-rc4 in comment #45. Can
you attach `dmesg` on 4.13-rc4 and 4.13-rc4?

If this is a regression, you need to find the last working mainline
kernel and the first non-working mainline kernel.

[Bug 1711216] Re: libvirtd crashed with SIGSEGV in _getbit()

2017-08-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Hi,
very interesting - thanks for the report Apolihron!

I'd like to recreate to debug and search for a fix.
Since in all my tests I haven't seen it yet it is likely dependent on your
setup.
The numa related functions indicate an area but we might need to know more what
exactly you are doing.

Might I ask for:
1. your guest xml
2. when does this happen - guest start, running a while, running a special load
in guest, ...?
3. You host system setup, especially in regard to numa (maybe attach a
/proc/zoneinfo)?

[Bug 1711204] Re: Remove ubuntu-ui-toolkit from the archive

2017-08-16 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Looking at url-dispatcher, the only use of ubuntu-ui-toolkit is in this
small QML file: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~indicator-applet-developers
/url-dispatcher/trunk.17.04/view/head:/gui/url-dispatcher-gui.qml

Does Unity 7 need this GUI? If no, let’s drop it; if yes, I can port it
to Qt Quick Controls or rewrite in C++.

[Bug 1711265] [NEW] [MIR] golang-golang-x-sync

2017-08-16 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

[Availability]

The package is available in universe.

[Rationale]

The package is now a build dependency of golang-goprotobuf, itself a
build dependency of lxd.

[Security]

The package is fairly new and has not had any CVEs reported. The package
is maintained by the same group of developers as go upstream and various
other golang.org/x packages such as golang-go.crypto who have
historically taken security bugs seriously.

[Quality assurance]

There are no open bugs in Debian (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=golang-golang-x-sync) or Ubuntu
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-golang-x-sync).

The package runs its tests as part of the build process.

The package does not have a watch file or README.source, but it's a
completely standard go library package for an upstream that does not tag
releases.

[Dependencies]

All dependencies are already in main.

[Standards compliance]

The package is lintian clean.

[Maintenance]

TBD

** Affects: golang-golang-x-sync (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

No... they are in proposed, I promise. They are not in updates yet. that's
what all this is about :)

Why would you do that? Do you possibly have proposed and updates mixed up?
Running with updates enabled is always good, running with proposed enabled
is pretty risky.

[Bug 1711101] Re: Audio doesn't auto switch when unplugging hdmi

2017-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
We now have autoswitching on connect in 17.10, but not on disconnect :)

You might find what you need by uncommenting and editing these lines:

### Make some devices default
#set-default-sink output
#set-default-source input

in /etc/pulse/default.pa or copy it to ~/.config/pulse/default.pa and
edit locally.

Regardless, I don't think hotplugging HDMI qualifies as High.

[Bug 1711085] Re: battery icon is distorded under GNOME Shell

2017-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not sure which path you mean... Adwaita icons are proven for Gnome
Shell but break Unity (Unity needs changing to avoid loading some of
them by accident). The icons we have right now are the only proven
solution that work in Gnome Shell and Unity.

So there are at least four ways forward:
 (a) Do nothing
 (b) Make the 16x16 battery icons longer and less square
 (c) Use Adwaita battery icons, but this requires changing Unity code to not
pick some up by accident.
 (d) Modify Gnome Shell code to support our old rectangular icons from 17.04.

It sounds to me like either of your preferred options (c) and (d)
require shell code hacking.

[Bug 1705609] Re: gpu-manager fails to detect hybrid requirements of Oryx Pro

2017-08-16 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hah!

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce it at the moment. But I did some
digging when I *could* reproduce it:

The problem appears when the nvidia driver binds to /dev/fb0 (which I
*think* is caused by the firmware selecting it as the boot VGA device?).

When nvidia is driving /dev/fb0, nothing from the is shown on the
display (obviously, as the display is hooked up to the Intel), and gpu-
detect does *not* detect that it needs offloading.

By switching the fbcon onto /dev/fb1 (via the fbcon=map:1 kernel
parameter) I get VT content and can start X on the Intel card by
manually modprobing bbswitch, unloading nvidia, “echo OFF | sudo tee
/proc/.../bbswitch”, and then starting GDM.

In this situation, by using the xorg.conf I attached, PRIME offload
nvidia/intel works fine.

At the moment i915 is binding to /dev/fb0, and gpu-manager/nvidia-
settings is working fine switching between Intel and NVIDIA.

What happens to bind to /dev/fb0 seems to be semi-stable - it tends to
persist across reboots and power cycling, but it has flipped a couple of
times in the past for some reason. The kernel booed does not appear to
be the determining factor.

Next time it boots with NVIDIA binding to /dev/fb0 I'll get you the
requested log :)

[Bug 1711087] Re: ad2p sink profile mic not available

2017-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Wait a minute, this might not be a bug at all...

A2DP is uni-directional so doesn't support simultaneous audio output and input.
In theory A2DP can be used for output or input, depending on what your
peripherals support...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_profiles#Advanced_Audio_Distribution_Profile_.28A2DP.29

Generally speaking though, there is no microphone when a headset is in A2DP
mode:
  http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-3286122/headset-mic-work-audio.html

The PulseAudio "fix" for the previous bug involves automatically
switching to the lower quality HSP/HFP profile when the microphone is
required. This is triggered automatically according to what features the
application requests. However automatic switching is apparently only
implemented for VoIP applications according to the release notes:

  https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/PulseAudio/Notes/10.0/

So automatic switching relies on the application supporting PulseAudio's
"property media.role=phone". If it doesn't yet then that's an
application bug. But beware that once switching has occurred and the mic
turns on, your audio output is likely to also be low quality (HSP/HFP
profile). This is just a fact of life with Bluetooth standards.

This bug is therefore invalid for pulseaudio, but your app(s) might be
able to add the above feature to trigger the automatic switching. If
you're having trouble with a specific app then please click on one of
the "Also affects..." links at the top of the bug.

[Bug 1708828] Re: Tap-to-click does not work in GDM

2017-08-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I have now tested two Lenovo laptops with different Synaptics touchpads.
Both running 17.10 and both support tap-to-click on the GDM login screen
just fine. So...

Andreas: Please upgrade when it's convenient (perhaps after the official
release) and try 17.10.

fenris: Please log a new bug using command 'ubuntu-bug gdm3' so we can
get your system details.

[Bug 1711254] [NEW] 16.04.3 deployments include non-existent directories in $PATH

2017-08-16 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Noticed this while doing regression testing on 16.04.3, and a number of
customers have asked with concerns as well during their testing.

I don't know exactly when this started, but we just started noticing it
with 16.04.3 (4.10) but $PATH by default now includes several
directories that do not exist:

ubuntu@above-ox:~$ find $(echo "$PATH" | sed -e 's/:/ /g') -maxdepth 1 -type
dfind: ‘/home/ubuntu/bin’: No such file or directory
find: ‘/home/ubuntu/.local/bin’: No such file or directory
/usr/local/sbin
/usr/local/bin
/usr/sbin
/usr/bin
/sbin
/bin
/usr/games
/usr/local/games
find: ‘/snap/bin’: No such file or directory

We noticed this because it was causing a resource job in the
certification suite to suddenly start failing (the failure was not
catastrophic, but it did appear to customers who were concerned.

I've verified this on both s390x and amd64 16.04.3 deployments via MAAS
2.2.

[Bug 1711255] [NEW] systemd RestartSec does not seem to work consistently

2017-08-16 Thread Leo Davis
Public bug reported:

The unit file for my service -33005.service:

[Unit]
Description=product  33005 service
Wants=some.mount
After=some.mount
PartOf=product.target

specifies RestartSec=10, which is also what systemd sees:

$ systemctl show -33005.service

However, today I saw in the journalctl log:

Everything looks to me that systemd is behaving as expected until Aug 15
23:34:02 when it attempts to start -33005.service not at the rate I
specified in RestartSec, but possibly at the default 100ms rate. This
excerpt shows both the expected 10s restart rate as well as the
unexpected restart rate.

2017-08-16 Thread Martin Wimpress
@lah7 on a fresh install of a fully updated Ubuntu MATE 17.10 daily
image I see that Welcome is "freezing" when loading via the auto start.
However, if launched from a terminal it works reliably. Can you have a
poke about please :-)

[Bug 1711251] [NEW] vhost guest network randomly drops under stress (kvm)

2017-08-16 Thread bugproxy
Public bug reported:

---Problem Description---
A vhost performance patch was introduced in the 4.10 kernel upstream, and is
currently included in the Zesty 4.10 kernel:

commit 809ecb9bca6a9424ccd392d67e368160f8b76c92
Author: Jason Wang
Date: Mon Dec 12 14:46:49 2016 +0800

vhost: cache used event for better performance

--

However I recently hit a functional issue linked to this patch which
would cause random guests to lose their network connection under stress.
This is not architecture specific and more likely to be hit with high
network stress (i.e. lots of uperf instances).

The patch author has now reverted this patch upstream:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/vhost?id=8d65843c44269c21e95c98090d9bb4848d473853

which reads:
"
Revert "vhost: cache used event for better performance"
This reverts commit 809ecb9bca6a9424ccd392d67e368160f8b76c92. Since it
was reported to break vhost_net. We want to cache used event and use
it to check for notification. The assumption was that guest won't move
the event idx back, but this could happen in fact when 16 bit index
wraps around after 64K entries.

Signed-off-by: Jason Wang
Acked-by: Michael S. Tsirkin
Signed-off-by: David S. Miller
"

I am requesting this patch to revert the problematic one be pulled into Ubuntu
Zesty (anything 4.10+).

---uname output---

Machine Type = 8247-22L

---Steps to Reproduce---
I can recreate the scenario with the following setup:
 - on a 20core host, start 20 1core VMs
 - I have a single linux bridge assigned to all guests using virtio
 - start a uperf benchmark between each guest pair (10 total) using a high
number of uperf nprocs (32)
