I believe this bug is fixed since version 0.90.0~exp1 because we
migrated to GTK3. Should be fixed in Ubuntu 17.10.

You may now use ctrl + L to manually enter paths just like in any other

[Bug 1706939] Re: A live session can't be terminated properly due to "[*** ]A start job is running for Hold for boot processes to finish up(XX/no limit)

2017-08-27 Thread Doug McMahon
There are some things pointing to gdm though far, far from conclusive
1. The current ubuntu-gnome daily image suffers the same
2. I have a usb from June 26 that works fine, it uses lightdm
3. This bug was filed on July 27 but was not immediate to the issue so it's
emergence & the move to gdm3 *could* be the same.

If a image could be produced whose only diff is the dm that may be
interesting.

[Bug 1709257] Re: [Bug] Harrisonville: pnd2_edac always fail to load on B1 stepping Harrisonville SDP

2017-08-27 Thread quanxian
The commit "bc8f10babcc2" is for fixing the issue of commit "3e5d2bd19138" that
also unconditionally hides the P2SB device on Apollo Lake. To backport from
4.14 to 4.13 (or older version) for 'pnd2_edac' driver, please apply all the
following four patches (on Boris' for-next branch):
bc8f10babcc2 EDAC, pnd2: Properly toggle hidden state for P2SB PCI device
5fd77cb3bac7 EDAC, pnd2: Conditionally unhide/hide the P2SB PCI device to read
BAR
d84676a9e128 EDAC, pnd2: Mask off the lower four bits of a BAR
3e5d2bd19138 EDAC, pnd2: Build in a minimal sideband driver for Apollo Lake

[Bug 1713365] Re: ogg to ogg : Error initializing output stream 0:0 @ 44999 b/s

2017-08-27 Thread Lou
This isn't an issue with ffmpeg itself. oggenc also fails, so you should
ask upstream at Xiph for an explanation. If you want such low bitrates I
suggest using Opus audio instead (which your ffmpeg supports).

Very interesting suggestion. Yes I think we should do this. Since it's a
feature rather than a bug though, we would either need to request an
exception to get it into 17.10, or wait till 18.04.

[Bug 1705127] Re: GTK bubble menu arrows have jaggies when not pointing straight up

2017-08-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Oh I see now, thanks.

It appears this is "fixed" or has been worked around now in 17.10. By
moving the window buttons to the right hand side, the bubble menu now
has room to be nicely formatted and points straight up. So I think the
issue is now invisible. Can you find any other cases not fixed yet in
17.10?

[Bug 1686504] Re: Bleachbit as Root does not open in Gnome Wayland Session

Eventually there should be no separate “root” and “non-root” versions of

[Bug 1713174] Re: Camera or its microphone doesn't work

2017-08-27 Thread Artiom Neganov
I've uninstalled 16.04 because I've realized that LTS is just a silly
sticker meaning nothing practical: people from IRC (#kde) couldn't
provide any help because they're basically don't use such an old Plasma
desktop which is shipped with 16.04 - it is about two years old.

So I've installed 17.04 and re-tried all my attempts and still no any
success: camera doesn't work in the system, in Skype for example. This
is a bad thing to my mind because it worked previously on 14.04 but now
it doesn't work neither in 16.04 or 17.04.

2017-08-27 Thread detrizio
Basically, I want you to understand my mindset. Sure, this is a bit of a

understanding of how I think and why I’ve built my business the way I have.
If you can start seeing things from my perspective, the mysterious world of
affiliate marketing will start to open up to you.

[Bug 997200] Re: Add NetworkManager connectivity config package

2017-08-27 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  How to Disable This Feature
  ===
+ Option 1
+
If you are using the default Ubuntu or GNOME, open the Settings app, browse
to Privacy and turn off Network Connectivity Checking.

+ Option 2
+
You could also disable it by adding a file to /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/
  with this content:
  [connectivity]
  enabled=false

Then restart NetworkManager or your computer, whichever is easier.

+ It appears that if option 2 is used, the on/off switch in gnome-control-
+ center won't be able to be turned on.
+
  Feature
  ===
- A separate network-manager-config-connectivity package that contains the
3-line config snippet to enable NetworkManager's connectivity check. This is
the same approach taken by Fedora since 2014 (their package is named
config-connectivity-fedora).

the 2-line config snippet to enable NetworkManager's connectivity check. This
is the same approach taken by Fedora since 2014 (their package is named
network-manager-config-connectivity-fedora).

- jbicha would like to have ubuntu-gnome-desktop recommend this package for
zesty. With this config, GNOME Shell will popup a browser page when a captive
portal is detected. The browser page is powered by webkit2gtk.

  https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.14/#captive-portals

- By making it a separate package, it is very easy for Ubuntu flavors to
- opt in to installing it by default if they choose. And it's very easy

So it's crucial to place an opt-in subscription box on your site for
people to start receiving a weekly or monthly newsletter from you.

[Bug 1713365] Re: ogg to ogg : Error initializing output stream 0:0 @ 44999 b/s

2017-08-27 Thread James Cowgill
I believe libvorbis does not support encoding at 44kHz with < 22500
bits/s/channel. If you want to reduce the bitrate that much then you'll
have to resample your audio at a lower rate (use -ar ).

[Bug 1713313] Re: Unable to launch pkexec'ed applications on Wayland session

2017-08-27 Thread Norbert
Here is my simple script for grepping "auth_admin
  auth_admin
  auth_admin
true"
inside /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/*.policy files in packages.

How to use:
1. apt-file search /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ | grep "\.policy$" | awk
'{print $1;}' | sed 's/[:]/ /g' | sort | uniq > polkit.txt
2. execute my script with ./do-pk.sh polkit.txt
4. it will do apt-get download, dpkg-deb -R, grep
'allow_.*auth_admin'&&'allow_gui.*true' and  and print
some info:

...
aptdaemon is not affected by polkit
true
apt-offline-gui is affected by polkit
...

Hope it helps.

[Bug 1692066] Re: [Request] Libreswan plugin for Network Manager

2017-08-27 Thread elegos
Hi Gustavo,

as I previously specified, I'm on Zesty (17.04) and actually there is no
network manager plugin for libreswan (only for strongswan).

I know the libreswan's Network Manager plugin has already been made, as
it's there in the Fedora distro.

[Bug 1458111] Re: Data corruption on exFAT USB sticks

2017-08-27 Thread Dylan A.
Hi,
Data corruption is always very annoying!

You used an old version of exfat-fuse and new versions fix many bugs.
Does this bug is still present with more recent exfat-fuse? If it is
still present, can you report this issue to the upstream developer[1]?

Thanks.

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-08-27 Thread Juhani Simola
I am having the same problem on 16.04, non-virtualized.

For me the problem started when I switched from a motherboard with
Realtek RTL8111H to one with Intel I219-V. There were no other hardware
changes at the time and only regular software upgrades from Ubuntu.

[Bug 1713364] [NEW] grub-efi-amd64signed package not installed

2017-08-27 Thread Karl McAllister
Public bug reported:

I had Ubuntu 16.1 installed on my hp pavillion laptop. It started
acting eratic and finally crashed with a "There is no operating system
installed on this hard-drive" error. I am currently running Ubuntu
17.04 from a start-up flash-drive. I also have the original start-up
flash-drive for Ubuntu 16.1 which I originally installed Ubuntu from.
Both start-up drives work fine from the "try Ubuntu" mode, but when I
try to install or reinstall Ubuntu I get a "grub-efi-amd64sined" package
not installed error and the system won't boot. This is weird because I
got this first when I tried to reinstall from the original 10.4 drive.
Then, using Ubuntu 16.1 from that original flash-drive, I downloaded and
created a new start-up flash-drive, this time with Ubuntu 17.04. The
drive works in the try version but when I try to install it I get the
same grub error.

I would assume that the new download should be complete. How could it
have the same error? Especially when I chose to erase the existing 16.1
and replace it with the new 17.4.

I then tried a solution I found online on the Ubuntu Community:

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade
$ sudo apt dist-upgrade

then:

$ sudo apt install --reinstall grub
$ sudo apt install --reinstall grub2-common
$ sudo apt install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64
$ sudo apt install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64-bin
$ sudo apt autoremove
$ sudo apt install grub-efi-amd64-signed

The only irregularities I encountered were once during the upgrade it
detected a difference between the coding from the software manufacturer
and the local one on my computer, and gave me a list of options. I
chose to keep the local version since I believe I have the newest ubuntu
desktop (17.4).

Everything seemed to work as planned. It didn't find the first grub to
reinstall but it said that it is replaced by the same grup2 and grub efi
as above, so I figured I was on the right track.

Only problem is when I again tried to install Ubuntu 17.4 on my computer
I get the same error.

What I don't know is if it's possible to successfully burn a Ubuntu
start-up flash-drive when Ubuntu is not installed on the system (ie.
only using a temporary Ubuntu via start-up flashdrive).

I also don't know if the solution I describe above to reinstall the
missing grub would attempt to reinstall the missing grub on the flash-
drive or on the computer itself. Could this be sabotaging the
reinstall? When I first made the 16.1 drive it was with a functioning
windows system. Do I need to burn a new disc from a working laptop?
That is, is it not possible to update, upgrade and reinstall Ubuntu via
a presumably faulty Ubuntu start-up flash-drive.

I just can't think of why else the problem persists with the new flash-
drive.

Thanks for the help!

I love Ubuntu!

[Bug 1640934] Re: copying jpg from exfat SD to ext4 HDD corrupts some jpg

2017-08-27 Thread Dylan A.
Hi,
Data corruption is always very annoying!

You used an old version of exfat-fuse and new versions fix many bugs.
Does this bug is still present with more recent exfat-fuse? If it is
still present, can you report this issue to the upstream developer[1]?

Thanks.

[Bug 1713131] Re: terminal crash with wavemon in ssh session

2017-08-27 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Unfortunately Gtk+ has some bugs with drag-n-dropping. That's why
mainstream gnome-terminal has disabled dnd'ing tabs across windows for
the time being -- apparently Ubuntu has either reverted this change or
ships a slightly older version of gnome-terminal.

I cannot exactly reproduce what you describe, but get a crash when I
drop the tab over another gnome-terminal window. No ssh, router,
openwrt, wavemon etc. needed.
