[Bug 1710993] Re: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + Users of Lubuntu 16.04 LTS are left with no sound in the default web + browser, Firefox. This is a regression. For users with no knowledge of + what PulseAudio even is (and even for people who *do* know what it is), + this is not good. + + [Test Case] + + 1. Go to a website that plays sound in Firefox on Lubuntu 16.04. This, + for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QfHhFlTUN8 + + Expected: Sound should play without having to install any additional + software. + + Result: No sound is played, and the user is given a message that they + need to install PulseAudio. + + [Regression Potential] + + People might get mad that PulseAudio is now installed, without them + asking (but it adds functionality, so in my opinion this update is + needed, regardless). I see no technical regression potential, as it is + simply adding a dependency. + + [Original Description] + I am on Lubuntu, an ALSA-only system, after update Firefox to version 55.0.1 it started to ask for PulseAudio when playing media. Reference: https://i.imgur.com/5gEnaYv.png I have initially stated the bug here: https://askubuntu.com/q/946568 This bug also happened with Firefox 52 and were fixed on 52.0.2, it seems it have had returned: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1671273 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1710993 Title: PulseAudio requirement breaks Firefox on ALSA-only systems after 55.0.1 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-meta/+bug/1710993/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

However, the package fails to build on the Ubuntu builders due to a series of bugs. - when the test binary is built, it is linked against libservicelog.so, not libservicelog.la. This means that there is no libtool wrapper script to set the path; and the test binary only ever works if there is an already-installed version of libservicelog on the system path which is being tested instead of the just-built version. - if servicelog_open() returns a failure, test_libservicelog segfaults because it tries to dereference a null pointer. - if /var/lib/libservicelog/ does not already exist on the system, servicelog_open() will *always* fail. I've written patches for the first two issues; but the hard-coding of a system path in the library makes it difficult to fix the third issue in a way that is compatible with an unprivileged build environment. I'm attaching the two patches, and will disable the test suite in the Ubuntu package pending resolution of the third issue. This is not a regression since the test suite is new since 1.1.16. ** Patch added: "Use libtool dependencies for linking tests" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libservicelog/+bug/1705538/+attachment/4940508/+files/0001-Use-libtool-dependencies-for-linking-tests.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1705538 Title: Update Package request for libservicelog To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1705538/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

We should definitely umount the targets first (to flush data on the device) but then call disconnect with a path of / to use the config on the ephemeral host (which was copied into the target anyhow). ** Also affects: curtin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713537 Title: iscsi-targets don't quit session on shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/curtin/+bug/1713537/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I do see the issue in 17.10 still. But to me it looks like a feature, if not a bug. The "white square" ties the close button to the document area. So it looks intentional and logical. Public bug reported: The "Software launch" tool will not load you get to the point where the circle turns where its thinking about loading then nothing happens. I get several Error messages during the day for no reason. I not doing much with this surfing the net, and streaming TV at night on TVmuse, other sites. No programing, or anything too heavy. I am about to go back to WIN 7 Enterprise at least I did not have to deal with all this nonsense and all the crap to install and update everything all the time. I also don't like all the spy-ware everything knowing what I do where I go on-line. I am used to being in full control of my data and not letting Amazon know when I blow my nose and how often I wipe me Azz. I though this was going to be less work and more stable then Windows turns out its just the opposite I have not had a day without a crash or something going wrong since I started using Ubuntu\Gnome. Not to mention do we really need 100 apps that all do exactly the same thing only have a different name to them? All so some programmer or script kiddy can feel good about what they did. I would be happy if something worked for longer then an hour and kept working without needing to be fixed every 15 minutes. Also not a fan of debugging others work that all should be done before its posted for mass consumption, you don't see cars out on the road half built with doors flying off at over 20 mph. And a note in the users manual that the owner will have to attach them with something else if they decide to go over that speed or if for some reason their doors blow off going down the highway at say 75mph! That they should tell everyone how they fixed their doors so everyone else can get this fixed and the designers can accept zero responsibility for their products. I am going to give this a few more days and if nothing changes and I still have to deal with this mess well I will be installing Win 7 and let everyone know about my experiences color me very much unimpressed. [Bug 1713586] [NEW] gnome-software displays wildly inaccurate estimate of package size when a certain deb file is double-clicked in nautilus
Public bug reported: I have created a large deb file of game assets for Quake 4 using the game-data-packager tool in Ubuntu 16.04. If I double-click on this file in Nautilus, gnome-software opens to install the file. However, the file size is incorrectly listed as over 18 exabytes (!) as per the screenshot at https://ovh.themcphails.uk/index.php/s/0pcBDXU0zztzS6a . The output from dpkg-deb and gdebi is as per http://termbin.com/32q7 . I would expect the package size in gnome-software to roughly match the package size listed (correctly) by dpkg-deb. 18 exabytes is a ludicrous estimate - has there been a signed/unsigned error? The deb package installs correctly with dpkg -i. I cannot attach the file to this bug report as it is too large, and contains proprietary code. The Quake 4 game files were obtained from GOG, and the windows install file was unpacked by innoextract. The deb was created by game- data-packager version 44. [Bug 1713578] [NEW] Migrate /etc/resolv.conf from resolvconf to systemd-resolved
Public bug reported: Moving off of resolvconf and to systemd-resolved requires that resolv.conf is properly handled both in the case of new installs (done as per 234-2ubuntu9 at least), but also in the case of upgrades from previous releases or previous versions of systemd. There are various use cases to take into account: 1) upgrades where resolv.conf is more or less default and dynamic, uses DHCP via ifupdown (servers), or 127.0.1.1/DHCP settings from NetworkManager (desktops), etc. 2) upgrades from manual resolv.conf settings (the user has written their own, it's static) 3) upgrades from manual resolv.conf managed via resolvconf. 3) No resolv.conf? Lack of resolv.conf is simple, writing one is always sane. Upgrades from dynamic files is also straightforward, copying it to /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf will keep the current state; /etc/resolv.conf will be symlinked to that. In the case of a manually-configured resolv.conf; whether it comes from resolvconf or is manually configured is non-trivial if we want to maintain the current DNS configuration and also remove resolvconf. The removal of resolvconf can be forced, but what do we do about the existing /etc/resolv.conf file, knowing that /run is a tmpfs? ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713578 Title: Migrate /etc/resolv.conf from resolvconf to systemd-resolved To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1713578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1650666] Re: GVim crashes when opening new tab
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + A severe regression has been found in the GTK 3 variant of Gvim. + Upon start-up, it crashes immediately with multiple failed + assertions. + + A second related, but less severe problem may occur when opening + new tabs within the GTK 3 variant of Gvim. + + [Test Case] + + Please note that in the following test cases, a given machine may + experience either of the test cases, while being unable to + experience the other test case. Please do /not/ discount + the merits of this SRU on being able to only confirm a single + test case, but not both. + + This patch equally corrects both test cases listed below, to + produce a working GTK 3 Gvim variant. + + IMPORTANT: Both test cases below require the package "vim-gtk3" + to be installed, prior to testing for either test case's + impact to one's machine. + + [[TEST CASE #1]] + + 1. From a terminal window, launch the GTK 3 variant of Gvim: + + $ vim.gtk3 + + 2. Immediately upon launch (whereby the window may or may +not briefly display); the terminal window will show error +messages relating to `unity_gtk_menu_*` critical +assertions. + +A full example of the experienced error output shown is: + + ``` + (gvim:13519): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_ptr_array_insert: assertion 'index_ <= (gint)rarray->len' failed + ** (gvim:13519): CRITICAL **: unity_gtk_menu_shell_get_item: assertion '0 <= index && index < items->len' failed + ** (gvim:13519): CRITICAL **: unity_gtk_menu_item_get_child_shell: assertion 'UNITY_GTK_IS_MENU_ITEM (item)' failed + ** (gvim:13519): CRITICAL **: unity_gtk_menu_shell_get_item: assertion '0 <= index && index < items->len' failed + ** (gvim:13519): CRITICAL **: unity_gtk_menu_item_get_label: assertion 'UNITY_GTK_IS_MENU_ITEM (item)' failed + ** (gvim:13519): CRITICAL **: unity_gtk_menu_item_get_icon: assertion 'UNITY_GTK_IS_MENU_ITEM (item)' failed + ``` + + [[TEST CASE #2]] + + 1. From a terminal window, launch the GTK 3 variant of Gvim: + + $ vim.gtk3 + + 2. Upon the window opening, attempt to open a new tab by entering +the key sequences ":tabnew" and pressing . The +program should now SEGV and abort. + + [Regression Potential] + + * The bug is possibly applicable to all later Ubuntu releases, + which combine Unity and GTK 3. + + * The upstream Vim project has not incorporated the fix, and + most likely will not. The specifics behind the fix might + be construed as too specific to the combination of Ubuntu, + Unity, and GTK 3; and not general enough to patch for all + downstream distributions. + + [Other Info] + + * Further information about this bug is available at the URLs: + https://github.com/vim/vim/issues/851 + https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vim/+bug/1650666 + + --- + When I open new tab using :tabnew command, GVim crashes in unity_gtk_menu_section_get_item_attributes function of libunity- gtk3-parser0 package. - Steps to reproduce: 1. Run gvim from vim-gtk3 package 2. Type `:tabnew` 3.
