[Bug 1599599] Re: System beep broken (again) in Xenial Xerus

2017-09-29 Thread Anthony
Thanks bam,
You're right, it's not fixed. Whenever I restart Ubuntu it's a gamble as
sometimes the system beep works and sometimes it doesn't.
The 'beep' command always works, and when using virtual consoles (Ctrl+Alt+F1
to F6) the system beep always works, though the pitch seems higher.

I changed the status to Confirmed.

Ok, on 16.04 I got it to appear in the extension manager by
purging/reinstalling, but it is still not appearing in the solver. I
can't try openjdk-7-jre because 16.04 only has 8 and 9.

[Bug 1720500] [NEW] data transfer status broken for usb drives

2017-09-29 Thread Anthony
Public bug reported:

While copying large files (i.e. >500MB) the window displaying the data
transfer status, or progress, is totally wrong.

Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit.

When I copy a 592MB file to a USB 2.0 flash drive formatted to NTFS the
transfer status climbs very fast then finishes and closes, all within a
couple seconds which is too fast. Then I use udisksctrl command to
unmount the USB drive, and although the window displaying the USB shows
it change to unmounted, the terminal cursor just hangs for a couple
minutes then finally outputs the "Unmounted" message once the file
finishes copying.

When copying the same file to a different USB 2.0 flash, formatted to
FAT32, the status jumps immediately to i.e. 586 MB of 592 MB and hangs
there for a couple minutes then closes when the transfer is done. At
least this shows the file operation is still in progress, even if it
appears frozen.

I've tried this several times on two different machines (desktop &
laptop) running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit, and the problem is always the
same as described above. On another machine running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
32-bit the transfer progress is displayed correctly, gradually climbing
then closing the window when finished.

Also, when transferring from the USB drives to the host machine the
progress works fine in all cases. The problems only occur when
transferring to the external USB drives.

2017-09-29 Thread Mitsuya Shibata
> With lightdm the im-config variables are preserved also on GNOME shell
(with or without Wayland).

Umm...

With GDM3, Ubuntu.Xorg session correctly set GTK_IM_MODULE and other
environments.
In this case, im-config will be launched from
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/70im-config_launch.

If GTK_IM_MODULE and others is not be set on Wayland only,
I thought this will be caused by systemd service file.
However lightdm worked with Wayland, more need to be investigated further...

- NVIDIA GTX 1060 w/ 384.69 driver (binary installed via 'Additional Drivers'
in Software & Updates menu)
- Intel HD Graphics 630, i915 driver w/ latest KBL firmware (via
https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/firmware)
- Xubuntu 17.04
- Kernel 4.12.14-041214-generic (via
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.12.14/)

The NVIDIA driver + card works fine, but selecting intel in the NVIDIA
X-server or running prime-select intel causes the system to hang on
shutdown, or at login after forced power-off, at the point when LightDM
is loading.

[Bug 1715240] Re: Server 16.04.2 & .3 Installation under Hyper-V does not show manual network configuration step

2017-09-29 Thread Larion Ltd.
Thank you @ xnox & bitwolf for your comments and suggestions.
I just tried an english installation run and the manual network configuration
showed up!

It's really odd, that the localization had not produced this bug @16.04.1.
Im wondering what changed after that, since the localisation @install is far
from complete and has not changed, at least as far as I can tell.

Anyways - I guess this bug can be called confirmed. Not sure about the priority
level though.
I guess that depends how many other localisations are affected as well.
I tested the following languages: (even though i don't speak any of them...)

Just tried french - works... no bug here.
...
and tried spanish - works... no bug here.
...
and tried italian - works... no bug here.
...
and tried esperanto - bug, same as @german!

[Bug 1719770] Re: hypervisor stats issue after charm removal if nova-compute service not disabled first

2017-09-29 Thread Hua Zhang
I can not reproduce the problem, I see SQL has used
'compute_nodes.deleted = 0' to filter deleted services as the following
debug info shows (mitaka).

(Pdb)
(Pdb) 'SELECT count(compute_nodes.id) AS count_1, sum(compute_nodes.vcpus) AS
sum_1, sum(compute_nodes.memory_mb) AS sum_2, sum(compute_nodes.local_gb) AS
sum_3, sum(compute_nodes.vcpus_used) AS sum_4,
sum(compute_nodes.memory_mb_used) AS sum_5, sum(compute_nodes.local_gb_used) AS
sum_6, sum(compute_nodes.free_ram_mb) AS sum_7, sum(compute_nodes.free_disk_gb)
AS sum_8, sum(compute_nodes.current_workload) AS sum_9,
sum(compute_nodes.running_vms) AS sum_10,
sum(compute_nodes.disk_available_least) AS sum_11 \nFROM compute_nodes,
services \nWHERE compute_nodes.deleted = :deleted_1 AND services.disabled = 0
AND services."binary" = :binary_1 AND (services.host = compute_nodes.host OR
services.id = compute_nodes.service_id)'

This is result I run above SQL in mysql directly, all are OK.

mysql> SELECT count(compute_nodes.id) AS count_1, sum(compute_nodes.vcpus) AS
sum_1, sum(compute_nodes.memory_mb) AS sum_2, sum(compute_nodes.local_gb) AS
sum_3, sum(compute_nodes.vcpus_used) AS sum_4,
sum(compute_nodes.memory_mb_used) AS sum_5, sum(compute_nodes.local_gb_used) AS
sum_6, sum(compute_nodes.free_ram_mb) AS sum_7, sum(compute_nodes.free_disk_gb)
AS sum_8, sum(compute_nodes.current_workload) AS sum_9,
sum(compute_nodes.running_vms) AS sum_10,
sum(compute_nodes.disk_available_least) AS sum_11 FROM compute_nodes, services
WHERE compute_nodes.deleted = 0 AND services.disabled = 0 AND services.binary =
'nova-compute' AND (services.host = compute_nodes.host OR services.id =
compute_nodes.service_id);
+-+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+++
| count_1 | sum_1 | sum_2 | sum_3 | sum_4 | sum_5 | sum_6 | sum_7 | sum_8 |
sum_9 | sum_10 | sum_11 |
+-+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+++
| 2 | 4 | 7902 |76 | 0 | 1024 | 0 | 6878 |76 |
0 | 0 | 72 |
+-+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+++
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> SELECT sum(compute_nodes.vcpus) FROM compute_nodes, services WHERE
compute_nodes.deleted = 0 AND services.disabled = 0 AND services.binary =
'nova-compute' AND (services.host = compute_nodes.host OR services.id =
compute_nodes.service_id);
+--+
| sum(compute_nodes.vcpus) |
+--+
|4 |
+--+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Below are steps I used to create test env:

1, There are 3 nova-compute nodes initially.

2, Then use 'openstack compute service delete 10' to delete one compute
service.

3, 'select * from services where id=10' will show deleted field of this
record is not 0 no longer.

Hi Pol

Im not sure of the exact order as I also repeated several steps but in
essence I relied on 3 things.

1) Disabling all third party software sources/repositories (In my case I
think the issue was with some bleeding edge Mesa code.)

then running

2) " sudo apt-get update "

and

3) " sudo apt-get install -f "

Though I did cycle through option 2 and 3 often. Sometimes with the use
of Ubuntu's "Software Updater" thrown into the mix.

Once the bits of stubborn code were updated I enabled external software
sources once again and things were back to normal.

Sorry if this isnt a step 1,2,3,4 answer as Im really not sure of what
combination unblocked the issue.

Anyway good luck with your issue.

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-09-29 Thread Graham Bosworth
Hello Nir,

A few things have been suggested as possibly being at fault, and this
has been a long saga, but one of the symptoms is that the "Network
Manager" icon can be lost, making it difficult to recover the connection
that way. For myself, I want to know either how to prevent the problem
from happening, or to find an automated scripted method of recovering
after the problem. Have you any suggestions please?

Thanks,
Graham

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-09-29 Thread Nir Yeffet
This is probably a bug with Network Manager. I was able to stop the
behavior by deleting the connection from the GUI menu (Ubuntu 17.04) and
creating new one.

Quick how to: from the network icon-> edit connections... "Network
Connections" appears -> choose the one with the problem -> edit -> keep
a note with your parameters in all tabs -> Cancel. From "Network
Connections" -> choose the one with the problem -> delete -> confirm.
(delete also redundant connections) From "Network Connections" -> Add ->
choose type -> create... -> set the parameters noted above.

[Bug 1714764] Re: Excessive dependency on gnome-session-canberra

2017-09-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I think it is an essential part of the Ubuntu Desktop that there be an
audio cue when the login screen is ready for the benefit of users who
are blind.

The askubuntu link points out that all you have to do is mute the sound
on the login screen to not hear the sound there any more.

** Description changed:

ubuntu-desktop package depends on gnome-session-canberra package in such
a way that it's impossible to remove gnome-session-canberra without
removing ubuntu-desktop. This is wrong, as aforementioned package
contains only few loud sounds to be played at system start, and is not
an essential part of Ubuntu Desktop.

I think it should be in 'recommends' section, not in 'depends'.

[Bug 1713020] Re: Ubuntu Dock extension cannot be disabled in the Ubuntu session

2017-09-29 Thread Joseph Jasson
@Sebastian Bacher(seb182). In the Gnome Tweak tool the Ubuntu dock is
shown with a On/Off switch next to it. When the switch is in the "Off"
position the Ubuntu dock is still displayed.

It may not be your intention to allow the Ubuntu dock to be switched off
(an incomprehensible stance), but having the Ubuntu dock still displayed
when the On/Off switch is in an off position is a bug.

Either the fact that there is an "Off" option is a bug or the fact that
the dock is displayed in the "Off" position is a bug. Either way, there
is a bug.

It is so frustrating that the Gnome DEVS don't listen to what their
users repeatedly say they want, or in this case, don't want. Some of us
would like to turn the dock off. It is not such an alien concept, nor
is it unreasonable.

[Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages

I'm sure your calculation is more proper than mine (I have probably
installed some of the packages manually). Still think it's a good idea;
those fonts represent languages spoken by a huge number of people.

[Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages

2017-09-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
On my computer, sudo apt install fonts-indic gives these numbers:

Need to get 3,315 kB of archives.
After this operation, 11.6 MB of additional disk space will be used.

The comment says there were "space reasons" to have some fonts listed in
desktop instead of desktop-common but I believe that doesn't apply any
more. (All the Desktop flavors appear to ship those fonts except Lubuntu
doesn't include fonts-liberation but Lubuntu Next does so that seems a
mistake to not include that font.)

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-
seeds/ubuntu.artful/view/head:/desktop#L34

So to amend my previous question, why not move fonts-indic from 'supported' to
'desktop-common'?
And move those 3 fonts from 'desktop' to 'desktop-common'?

[Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages

2017-09-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Jeremy: I remember that we talked about fonts-indic a few weeks ago.
The accumulated size of the packages it pulls isn't huge - 5 MB disk
space if I didn't make a mistake - and it sounds like a good idea. Or
would it require a bunch of MIRs?

Maybe, though, replace fonts-knda and fonts-telu in the platform.artful
branch with fonts-indic. (Why do we pull some fonts via desktop-common
in platform.artful, and some via desktop in ubuntu.artful?)

[Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages

2017-09-29 Thread Jeremy Bicha
What do you think about moving fonts-indic from 'supported' to 'live'?

desktop-common in 14.04 had recommends for:

 * (ttf-indic-fonts-core)
 * (ttf-punjabi-fonts)

https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-
seeds/platform.trusty/view/head:/desktop-common#L89

But those were dropped before 16.04 LTS.

There's a description of ttf-indic-fonts-core in the changelog:

[Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full

2017-09-29 Thread Brian Murray
I think source of the problem here is bug 1501844 and removing a linux-
image-extra package causes update-initramfs to be run. If the kernel
package maintainer scripts were written differently then removing linux-
image and linux-image-extra would not have a problem if /boot was full,
but removing linux-image-extra by itself would still be an issue as
update-initramfs would be run.

[Bug 1719724] Re: zfs-auto-snapshot 1.2.2-1 is broken

2017-09-29 Thread Joseph Yasi
The Debian bugs for the issues with 1.2.2 are here:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=850776
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=874182

1.2.3 and 1.2.4 were bug fix releases that fix this cron issue. With
1.2.2, the hourly, weekly and monthly snapshots do not happen. If a user
was relying on them from a previous version of this tool, they could
have data loss due to the missing snapshots.

[Bug 1720149] Re: gnome-shell segv on wake from display or system sleep

2017-09-29 Thread Rachel Greenham
That would appear to be very different from what we're trying to report
here:

1. It's not hanging. It's presumably exiting, forcing a logout, and it
all happens before the monitors are awake enough to show a picture.
We're not in a hung state at any point.

2. It's not only suspend, it's wake from only display-sleep too. The
rest of the computer isn't suspended or sleeping in any manner. It
*also* failed, in the exact same manner, on wake from suspend, but this
suggests the problem isn't in suspending or waking from that, but just
about the display sleep/wake.

3. It's only affecting nVidia (or at least, for me, it seems not to be
also affecting Intel, but I haven't tried such a long sleep under
Intel/Xorg and I should - tomorrow, as I'm in bed now). I bet there's no
problem. :-)

4. It appears to be only affecting Xorg, although of course with nVidia
there's too much else broken when trying to force it to use Wayland
(which is, after all, not enabled by default for these reasons).
Certainly no such problems on Intel/Wayland which *does* regularly get
to sleep for long periods of time between uses, and I've never seen it
hang on wake.

(Hardware of my Intel graphics machine is an Early 2015 13" Retina
Macbook Pro. This specifically is a Broadwell Core-i5 with Intel Iris
6100, and I've only attempted to use it on its own screen, not with any
external screens connected. Generally, it runs Linux brilliantly, as far
as I've so far tried, and is very happy with Wayland. All hardware just
works OOTB.)

I'm not using the default ubuntu session (with or without wayland) on
either machine, but the GNOME session - wayland on the intel, xorg on
the nvidia. Basically just because I wanted vanilla dash-to-dock. I'm
not running many extensions, dash to dock, a wallpaper changer, ubuntu
appindicators (which isn't working on Xorg on either machine btw, to be
the subject of another bug report when I get a round tuit)... and
nothing else that I remember right now while I'm not at it. Come to
think of it, I do need to test using the default gnome shell theme
rather than Arc's. I will tomorrow.
