[Bug 1723576] Re: Python Webkit module no longer works in 17.10

2017-10-13 Thread NoBugs!
It appears you are supposed to import "WebKit2" now, but this has a
different api...

webview.set_highlight_text_matches is not a function for example.

Any chance we could have both versions compiled in?

[Bug 1723571] [NEW] Terminal will never open in usb livecd

2017-10-13 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

On newly set up 17.10 I tried updating, I tried installing updates,
restarting, still no terminal at all. I can't install another terminal
because event Ctrl+Alt+Fn key is completely useless in the livecd mode
as I don't know the username/password. This makes the first step in
debugging and getting actual work done completely broken!

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10

This seems to get farther, then fails with iptables issues.

Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information.

Incidentally I noticed this on an EOL installation in a VM, but I have
no reason to think that anything has changed.

[Bug 1723562] [NEW] Kernels get stuck in "manual" state and fail to autoremove after disk full condition

2017-10-13 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

I use unattended-upgrades to install new kernels (I think probably from
the security pocket). I believe this is the default. I also don't run
autoremove automatically, which I believe is also the default.

I just recovered a system that had been stuck in a disk full state for a
while without me noticing because, without an automated autoremove,
unattended-upgrades had filled my system full of kernels.

Expected: "apt-get --purge autoremove" will remove all unused kernels,
perhaps with a bit of coaxing from me to provide enough free space for
dpkg and apt to function.

Actual: "apt-get --purge autoremove" left many extra kernels installed.

It seems that the reason is that apt considered most of the
automatically installed kernels as being marked for manual install. I
suspect that this is because apt wasn't able to mark kernels as
automatically installed because it didn't have enough space to do so at
the time, and without such a mark, it assumes manual.

Workaround: use "apt-mark" to mark all kernels as automatic once enough
space is available. Then run "/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal"
manually. Then "apt-get --purge autoremove" works.

I'm not sure how we might approach fixing this. But I think it's a poor
UX that Ubuntu currently relies on autoremove to remove old kernels to
prevent the disk filling up, but this fails to work in some cases when
the disk does fill up.

I'm tagging such bugs "kernel-autoremove" to help us identify what needs
fixing to make kernel autoremovals work completely to fix this UX issue.

[Bug 1597377] Re: Malformed 01autoremove-kernels apt file

2017-10-13 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I was just looking for kernel-related apt bugs and came across this
report.

It seems likely to me, given that it's had only one affected user in
this time, that this was caused by filesystem corruption or a hardware
problem on the reporter's computer and not by a bug in Ubuntu. So I'm
marking this bug as Incomplete to make it clear that no progress can be
made on this bug by Ubuntu developers.

If you believe this really is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem on
your system, please explain and set the bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1723112] Re: Stpped printer. Ubuntu 16.04 upgrade 2

2017-10-13 Thread Paul Garff
This is what I got when I went to the following web site.
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

You have selected Ubuntu 16.04 using the HP Officejet Pro 8710 All-in-
one Printer.

Ubuntu 16.04 supplies HPLIP 3.15.2 by default, which does not support
your printer.

You must ensure latest HPLIP version (recommemded), or at least HPLIP
3.16.5 in order to use your printer with Ubuntu 16.04.

I tried to get the latest HPLIP 3.17 but it failed. fixing this
problem is beyond my skills i.e. testing an upstearm kernal.

If I could I would revert back to ubuntu 15.04.

[Bug 1723532] Re: Installer crashes after LVM and encrypt deselected

2017-10-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry
your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact
an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back
to New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1584740] Re: Libreoffice impress hanging and high cpu on slide operations

2017-10-13 Thread niniendowarrior
Just want to add insight that removing libreoffice-gtk* does make
Impress usable. However, I run into issues where sometimes the
graphical rendering of the UI and some of the edits are glitched and
don't refresh correctly. This happens when I have the Impress window go
maximize.

[Bug 1723554] [NEW] Blue border flickers in Overview when you hover mouse away from & over window

2017-10-13 Thread Jesse
Public bug reported:

BEHAVIOR
When you enter activities overview, and hover your mouse over an open window
(or away from an open window and then back over an open window) the blue border
around the window flickers: it briefly fades, then returns. The blue border
also flickers when you hover over the "X" close button at the top-right of a
window in Overview, and then back to the window.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
That the blue border wouldn't flicker (or quickly fade out then fade back in)
when you move the mouse into, over, or away from the window in Activities
Overview.

BUG DISCOVERED USING
Ubuntu 17.10 beta 2

Sorry! The "error" was due to the OK button being hidden below the
screen edge. I can rotate the screen and get access to the button (not
optimal, but has nothing to do with ews). Closing.

[Bug 1723350] Re: sssd offline on boot, stays offline forever (artful)

2017-10-13 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I can confirm this is happening after a reboot, and that a simple USR2
signal fixes it, but I wonder why sssd doesn't get itself back into
online mode on its own in this case.

For example, I tried the following:
- login via kerberos using pam_sss while it was online
- got my ticket
- kdestroy, logout
- in another terminal, bring down the network on this client workstation
- try go login again
- login failed, and sssd log showed:
(Fri Oct 13 21:23:15 2017) [sssd[pam]] [sss_dp_get_reply] (0x0010): The Data
Provider returned an error [org.freedesktop.sssd.Error.DataProvider.Offline]

I then brought the network back up, and after a while (a minute or
less), login was working again using krb5. This shows sssd recovered
from the induced "outage".

The systemd unit file we are using in ubuntu comes straight from
upstream.

[Bug 1719191] Re: Black screen with messages after new install 17.10

2017-10-13 Thread Doug McMahon
This *could* be another variation of this bug, in any event it's well known
that the odds of successfully exiting a live session with gdm3 are slim to
none. Also noted that the below won't be fixed in 17.10.

[Bug 1723272] Re: apport-bug unable to init server, dumps core

2017-10-13 Thread Paul
Interesting. According to that ticket, applications require changes to
PolicyKit and ultimately maybe their architecture (separation into non-
graphical and graphical components) in order to run as root on Wayland.
So it looks like you have two options:

1. Put your foot down and refuse to make those changes in apport-bug
2. Decide to re-architect apport-bug to work under Wayland

Keep this ticket open in the latter case.
