It looks like the snap ships a symlink in meta/gui/vlc.desktop that
points to a non-exiting file.

Weird, I only get this problem if the bios is set to: "Hybrid Graphics",
and everything works on Discrete Graphics.

Also subscribed a Cloud Archive task as they are the most relevant
"victim" of the bug by having a qemu backport to Xenial.

[Bug 1731051] Re: (arm64) VM fails to properly reboot

2017-11-14 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Uploaded to Artful-unapproved and added SRU Template - waiting on SRU
Team now.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Newer qemu crashes on older kernels (on arm) for using a feature that
+was not supported by these older kernels.
+
+ * Backport of a fix - also the detection code itself already exists in
+qemu - this just makes sure that if the feature is not available that
+the related function is not queued to prevent a crash.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * (on arm64 for the actual case - is a no-change everywhere else)
+1. create a virtual machine that runs fine
+2. suspend it
+ $ sudo virsh dompmsuspend ubuntu1710 --target mem
+3. wake it up
+ $ sudo virsh dompmwakeup ubuntu1710
+=> Before the fix this sequence crashed qemu as outlined in the initial
+ report below
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * This is only affecting arm (and thereby limiting regression to others)
+as well as being a backport and no "change from scratch" (limiting risk
+again). Then furthermore "all it does" is stop adding the ITS action
+which was a feature only added in Artfuls qemu. That said if there
+would be a case were the detection would be non-perfect, even then the
+user would just fall back to how it worked in zesty. That is a lot of
+IFs (=unlikely) and even if so impact would hopefully be minimal.
+So I think the regression assessment is very low for this change.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Even more important for backports of this like Ubuntu Cloud Archive
+
+ ---
+
The Pike cloud archive has a regression, compared to Ocata, where in
rebooting a VM via virsh causes the VM to powerdown, and then exit. The
VM does not automatically power back up, but can be restarted.

  Repro:

Install 16.04.3 on an ARM64 host
  Fully update the install
  add-apt-repository cloud-archive:pike
  apt-get update
  apt-get install qemu-efi virt-manager libvirt-bin qemu-guest-agent
qemu-system-aarch64
  wget
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/releases/17.10/release/ubuntu-17.10-server-arm64.iso
create a new session via ssh (session B)
  In session B: virt-install --accelerate --cdrom ubuntu-17.10-server-arm64.iso
--disk size=10 --name ubuntu1710 --os-type linux --ram 1024
Once the install completes and the guest is at the login prompt, in session
A: virsh reboot ubuntu1710 --mode acpi

  Observed result:
The guest will powerdown as expected (from logs on session B), and then
session B will be dumped back to the host shell. "virsh list" will not show the
ubuntu1710 domain.

  Expected result:
The guest powers back on, and boots back to the login prompt.

  Analysis:
We observe these errors in various logs:

  Nov 1 13:29:16 ubuntu libvirtd[2441]: 2017-11-01 20:29:16.882+: 2441:
error : qemuMonitorIORead:595 : Unable to read from monitor: Connection reset
by peer
  Nov 1 13:29:16 ubuntu libvirtd[2441]: 2017-11-01 20:29:16.882+: 3101:
error : qemuMonitorJSONCommandWithFd:309 : internal error: Missing monitor
reply object

  2017-11-01T20:29:16.538762Z qemu-system-aarch64: KVM_SET_DEVICE_ATTR
failed: Group 4 attr 0x0001: No such device or address

We debugged this to an issue in the QEMU in Pike being incompatible with
the 4.10 kernel of 16.04.3. The QEMU in this version attempts to use the
ITS migration functionality during reboot. 4.10 does not support this.
When the IOCTL fails, QEMU calls abort(), thus killing the VM.

We believe QEMU should not attempt to use this functionality if the host
kernel does not support it. We suggest the attached patch to resolve the
  issue.

** Changed in: qemu (Ubuntu Artful)
   Status: Triaged => In Progress

** Also affects: cloud-archive
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

IIRC, Artful used v4.11 and v4.12 before GA. Do these two versions have
the same issue?

[Bug 1732342] [NEW] DNS info removed when any interface removed, not just iSCSI interface

2017-11-14 Thread Daniel Axtens
Public bug reported:

If a system only has DNS server info via open-iscsi (putting aside
whether or not that's a good idea), and then starts a Docker container
or LXD container, name resolution breaks.

The open-iscsi udev rules invokes net-interface-handler when a network
device is added or removed. This helper deals with dns resolution. On
boot, this sets up dns resolution based on the information gathered
during early boot.

However:

1) The udev rule and script run the full script for all network
interfaces, whether or not they are the iscsi interface - they do not
bail out early if there is a mismatch. So, the removal of any device
triggers 'net-interface-handler stop', which removes the
/run/resolvconf/interface/ethX.iscsi-target file, breaking resolution.
This occurs even if the interface being removed is *not* ethX.

2) For some reason, both starting a docker container and starting an LXD
container involve adding 2 interfaces and then removing one. The
additions do nothing, as the resolution rule has already been installed.
The removal, however, causes the resolution rule to be removed, breaking
DNS.

Public bug reported:

I tried to update the environment by running the apt-get update command,
it keeps giving me some error such as /var/lib/dpkg ... message. I've
researched online as to resolving this issue, its all to no avail. I
restarted the server and I saw so many crash messages and it suggested
that I report the message. Please I need your help on this matter.
Thanks

Best regards,
Kay Ade.

[Bug 1732311] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 daily build Force UEFI installation dialog not responsive

2017-11-14 Thread pavel bursa
Public bug reported:

I cannot get over the "Force UEFI Installation?" dialog in Ubuntu 18.04
daily build. It does not respond on Go Back, Continue nor red x button
(in top right corner). Everything seems OK, but I just cannot continue
with the installation.

I have downloaded the Ubuntu 18.04 daily build from 14/11/2017, I have
installation in Virtualbox (ubutnu 17.10), and I installed it with the "try
Ubuntu and install" option in UEFI mode, with gpt partition table previously
created by gparted.

Note: I had to use "try and install", as there is no option to create GPT
partition table in the Install menu, if I choose direct install (and not the
try and install).

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Did a little more digging in my old logs. I think I found kernel logs
from my zesty install. iwlwifi firmware jumped from v22.391740.0 up to
v31.532993.0 (probably during upgrade). Shortly after that is when I
experienced the first 'Microcode SW error detected'.

Would it be worth me reverting back to v22 and trying that? I'm
definitely a n00b when it comes to kernel/firmware stuff. Not sure how
it all works.

[Bug 1732057] Re: WiFi Microcode SW Error Detected

2017-11-14 Thread Tim Tierney
Hey Joseph. Thanks for your time and quick reply. I have no problem
trying 4.14. However, this is a little outside of a standard install.
I'm running '/' on top of ZFS. I'm pretty sure ZFS isn't out yet for
4.14. So if I install that version without ZFS included, my system
won't boot.

One good thing is I kept my 17.04 '/' dataset. So I've been looking for
config differences and Google-ing trying to diagnose it myself.

I did notice a bug with similar symptoms (Bug #1681513) stating there is
a new privacy feature added to NetworkManager. Something about MAC
Address Randomization breaking some WiFi adapters. Comparing my old and
new NetworkManager config. There's a new line that wasn't there before.
Could this new feature be causing it? Just stabbing in the dark here.

[Bug 1730864] Re: Shutdown crashing when connected to AC adapter

2017-11-14 Thread Renê Barbosa
Also tried to disable runpm in amdgpu and switch it off in both kernels (stock
and Mainline Build).
For some reason the system is enabling it again (?) and the shutdown/reboot
hangs until I force the process using Magic SysRQ.

Thanks! I've retried test cases a) and b) above using this kernel, and
it does appear to resolve the issue.

[Bug 1696415] Re: NetworkManager does not update IPv4 address lifetime even though DHCP lease was successfully renewed

2017-11-14 Thread Ray Link
Sjors:

I'm interested to know how it goes for you with this update (either from
the included debdiff, or from the packages when they hit -proposed.) We
were seeing the exact same symptoms you were, and deep-dove into your
backported fix from the GNOME bug and it all seems like it should fix
the issue. We've tested extensively with your fix and the symptoms
completely disappeared, even from the machines most frequently affected.
