[Bug 1739727] [NEW] package selinux (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Public bug reported: I tried to install selinux with sudo apt-get install selinux. Upon reboot one of the error messages was that the file system was not writable and could not make the directory /root/selinux. There was another complaint that may be related to gnome on the system, but that may not be relevant. I could not switch screens and log in to fix anything. When I tried and the password was accepted the screen would blank and give another login prompt. I booted the system on an installation CD and remounted the directories on /mnt. Then I chroot to /mnt and then did sudo apt-get remove selinux. I had to do the recover routine and dpkg and then clean to get the system back to being stable. I can't confirm which version of selinux it was (probably in the logs). [Bug 16632] Re: popcon should offer an option for submission via https
popcon.ubuntu.com now defaults to HTTPS, with default HTTPS for all GET functions. [Bug 1739625] Re: Mouse events pass through pure Wayland windows
Sounds like either an incorrect usage of wl_surface::set_input_region by the clients, or an incorrect default by gnome-shell. [Bug 1739699] [NEW] opening a large number of videos with vlc causes delay and unresponsive vlc
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. download a free MPlayer test file, like http://samples.mplayerhq.hu/MPEG-4/video.mp4 and move it into /tmp/a or similar 2. replicate it by running (requires a few GB of free space depending on the deduplication facilities of your filesystem) ``` import shutil for i in range(0,1000): shutil.copy("/tmp/a/video.mp4", "/tmp/a/video-%d.mp4" % (i,)) ``` 3. open /tmp/a in nautilus, select all files and open them with VLC media player through the context menu Instead of putting all files in the VLC queue like Ubuntu 17.04's nautilus did, an ~"opening in progress" dialog is opened blocking the UI for almost a minute while consuming 100% of all CPU cores. If the above is done during high memory consumption of another process hundreds of VLC processes are started and the display manager crashes (but that's another issues). If random playback is configured in VLC, it's ignored and always the last video is played first. The is no apparent reason why multiple files cannot be opened like in 17.04. [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
** Description changed: SRU Justification Impact: Many users are reporting issues with bios corruption with 17.10. This seems to stem from enabling the intel-spi-* drivers in the kernel, which don't appear to be ready for use on end-user machines. Fix: Disable this driver. Test Case: Fix has been verified by our HWE team on affected hardware. Regression Potential: Minimal, it's unlikely anyone is actually doing anything which requires this driver. --- Hi all, Basically on Lenovo Y50-70 after installing Ubuntu 17.10, many users reported a corrupted BIOS. It's not possible to save new settings in BIOS anymore and after rebooting, the system starts with the old settings. Moreover (and most important) USB booting is not possible anymore since USB is not recognized. It's very serious, since our machines do not have a CDROM. Lenovo forums at the moment are full of topics regading this issue. Thank you!! [Bug 1739672] Re: Regression in getaddrinfo(): calls block for much longer on Bionic (compared to Xenial)
** Description changed: When testing MAAS on Bionic, we noticed sluggish performance that we could not immediately explain. After comparing the results from a run of the test suite on Xenial to a run on Bionic, we determined that the slowdowns had to do with DNS lookups. In particular, if MAAS attempts to resolve a hostname using getaddrinfo() and the call fails, on Xenial the negative result is returned in a fraction of a second. On Bionic, the negative result is returned in ~1.6 seconds, according to some measures. ### To run the test ### git clone https://github.com/mpontillo/test-getaddrinfo cd test-getaddrinfo make - ### Results on Xenial ### - time ./test not-a-real-hostname + $ time ./test not-a-real-hostname Trying to resolve: not-a-real-hostname - getaddrinfo errno: Success - getaddrinfo() return value: -2 (Name or service not known) + getaddrinfo errno: Success + getaddrinfo() return value: -2 (Name or service not known) real 0m0.015s user 0m0.000s sys 0m0.000s - ### Results on Bionic ### $ time ./test not-a-real-hostname Trying to resolve: not-a-real-hostname - getaddrinfo errno: Resource temporarily unavailable - getaddrinfo() return value: -3 (Temporary failure in name resolution) + getaddrinfo errno: Resource temporarily unavailable + getaddrinfo() return value: -3 (Temporary failure in name resolution) real 0m1.609s user 0m0.004s sys 0m0.000s -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1739672 Title: Regression in getaddrinfo(): calls block for much longer on Bionic (compared to Xenial) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/1739672/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Lenovo y40-80 also corrupted. I've tried so many things.
